The 13 Best Restaurants in Fairbanks, Alaska | Eater

"Fairbanks’ only Moldovan restaurant, Soba is a cute, quiet place run by a Moldovan couple who immigrated to Alaska nearly 15 years ago. The staff is friendly, the portions are generous, and the chefs are not afraid to pair their traditional Moldovan offerings with a pile of golden french fries when it’s what the dish calls for. Meat, polenta, wine, and spiced vegetables feature prominently on the menu. The mici plate with grilled lamb sausage comes highly recommended, as does the tocană cu mămăligă." - Kris Farmen

I stopped into Soba Restaurant recently and really enjoyed it. The place has such a quaint, cozy charm—it feels warm and welcoming the moment you walk in. I only tried the meatball soup, but it was excellent—comforting, flavorful, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. Sometimes simple dishes done well say it all. I’m already planning to go back and try a few more things on the menu.

We visited this restaurant in the heart of Fairbanks and really enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere inside was warm and welcoming, with plenty of seating and a calm, non-chaotic vibe. The food was of good quality, prices were reasonable, and the whole place felt very clean. A great spot for a relaxed meal.

I can totally understand why this is one of the top rated restaurants in Fairbanks. So tasty! Great service. Love the sangria. The pastry appetizer and the Zrazy are must tries, but my #1 fav thing I tried were the cherry crepes. Soo good!

The food worths the price, it's a different cuisine with different spices and ingredients. I highly recommend trying, the service is fast and the personel are nice. Also they play my favorite Balkan music it simple gives the touch to the atmosphere.

True Eastern European flavors in the middle of Alaska! We went twice in a row, had pierogies and pelmeni, barszcz and chicken soup and the cheese pancakes for dessert with honey. The service is in Eastern European style as well, which made us laugh in contrast with American style of servicing customers - but don’t get offended, it’s just part of the culture!

Rating: 4.5 (not the best restaurant I've ever been to but a unique, delicious adventure) Located inside the Co-Op Plaza, which we walked past the first time. Soba was our first experience with Moldovan food. We'd made reservations but the restaurant was nearly empty (6pm on a Thursday in July). HB had Moldovan Chardonnay and I ordered the Isabella wine. Our server took time to chat about Moldovan wines and the Cricova wine region, which was cool. We were grateful for the menu photos plus our server answered our questions as we pointed to dishes, settling on what you see in the photos. We enjoyed the crawfish appetizer and flatbread so much that along with soups, split pea and borş, we knew the entrees would be delicious! Ample servings yet somehow HB had room for dessert with a glass of Moldovan sweet wine! We enjoyed looking around at the Moldovan decor - wall hangings, shelves with decorations, lights - only downside on this unseasonably hot summer day was no A/C.

Stopped in for dinner before flying home. It’s an adorable spot in an inconspicuous strip mall. Authentic and delicious. Servers are kind and knowledgeable. Will be recommending to any who find themselves in Fairbanks !

Nice restaurant with an interesting decor. Restaurant is located in a building with other stores. Ordered Mici lamb sausage which came with fries and cabbage salad. It was very good. Also ordered dumplings which were awesome. Service was friendly.
