Soba Kamakura - Review - Mandaue City - Cebu - The Infatuation

"Soba Kamakura is one of the rare places in the country that makes soba noodles entirely by hand. There are only nine seats in this spot in Mandaue, five of which are at the bar, where you can see the chef quietly mixing, rolling, and cutting them behind the counter. The result is a springy, nutty noodle served with a light and clean dipping sauce, served in gozen-style set meals that come with things like crispy tempura, glazed eel served on a bed of rice, and chawan-mushi. There’s even a vegan gozen, and the $23 lunch special is surprisingly generous. The staff hover a little (for example, they might approach if you used a seasoning on a dish it isn’t intended for), but a bit of gentle supervision does feel like a fair trade for a meal that’s this precise and satisfying." - Chandra Joshua

Soba Kamakura is an exclusive, reservation-only Japanese restaurant in Mandaue City, Cebu. Rated #1 by Sunstar for being the best Japanese restaurant. Soba specializes in fresh, handmade soba noodles and grilled eel. We ordered 2 sets, the Hikari and the Kamakura. Prepared and made right in front of you. We were blown away by the Cold Tofu with Caviar. The edamame was okay. Their Tuna sushi was excellent as well as their beef with vegetables. Handmade soba noodles with nori were fantastic. The eel was a bit of a let down, needed more glaze. The desserts were exceptional. Service was very good, they keep attention to all details. Recommend this establishment for your special occasions like birthday and date nights.

Best Japanese food in town. Expensive but must try. Reservations necessary. See pictures of what we had. Price spent around 2,000 to 3,000 pesos per person. Food is freshly prepared, service is great. Place is a bit small, good for max 13 pax. 2 tables good for 4 seating and a bar that's good for 5 seating max. Small space adds to the Japanese ambiance.

Soba Kamakura is an absolute must-visit for anyone who appreciates authentic, high-quality Japanese cuisine. The food here is nothing short of exceptional— each dish is thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. The ambiance of the restaurant complements the meal perfectly—peaceful, minimalist, and inviting, with a genuine sense of hospitality from the staff. It’s the kind of place where every detail, from the tableware to the timing of service, is handled with care. Soba Kamakura deserves a spot at the top of your list. It’s a culinary experience that manages to be both comforting and refined. One thing to note though, is that prior reservation is required and they do not accommodate walk-ins.

We flew in from Manila and this is our first meal here! So good and the service is so great. Worth our money! We had the roast beef, gyudon and artisan soba! They also do not use MSG. Really comparable to Japan.

Came here for dinner with friends and enjoyed the whole experience. The quality of the food is great. Seats are very limited so you much reserve to get a spot.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. Service was impeccable, food incredibly fresh and just the right flavour. Pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. It's out of the way for those residing in Cebu City, but well worth the journey. Reserve ahead, limited seating (12 at most) and limited parking. Would be better to get the earlier dinner slots (6:30pm). It goes without saying — but be on time!

Omakase experience on my 30th 🥰 Now I totally understand why even Japanese tourists raved for this restaurant. BEST Japanese restaurant in Cebu. Guests are requested to call not only to secure a seat but also to order beforehand, at least an hour before arrival. It’s an odd request, but one that guarantees delicious results. Service is impeccable. Ambiance is superb. 10/10 would recommend!

Food was really great and served fresh and some were made right in front of you. It would be nice to add some music in the background that’s not too loud . Place is good for private or small group dining. Parking: good for 2-3 cars only
