Society Hill Hotel

We had an incredible dining experience at the Society Hill Hotel with my siblings and spouses for our annual get-together, and this year was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the service was attentive, warm, and genuinely friendly. Our server was fantastic, and Carl, the manager, made a point to check in and ensure everything was perfect, which it was. The food was outstanding, especially the wood-fired pizza, paired with excellent drinks in a space that feels cozy, bright, and welcoming all at once. It was the perfect setting to slow down, connect, and enjoy time together. This location elevated a tradition we look forward to every year and made it our favorite yet. We recently learned that the restaurant is closing and may reopen as something new. If it does, we truly hope whoever takes it forward preserves what made this place so special: the atmosphere, the drinks, the food, and especially the level of service. This has become one of our favorite places in the city, and we’ll continue coming back as often as we can and recommending it to others.

Great place! Only a few little things that I would recommend they add. One being an ice and water machine somewhere in the building. Also there is no one on site so make sure you bring everything you would need!!! They are very responsive over text. The walls were super thin, could hear everything little thing the people next door were saying and doing. Lastly our shower was cold and the shower head was not working correctly. Not too big of a deal we were only staying one night. We loved the heated toilet seat! It was cute and in a great location. The restaurant down stairs was very nice as well but great cocktails and the staff were very friendly!

I absolutely loved my experience at this hotel! I was in town for the weekend on business and when searching for a reasonably priced please to stay for one night, I found this jem only 2 blocks from the event I was attending and surrounded by parking garages and lots as well as many places to eat and drink. There is a large CVS a block away if you need anything. The halls and room adorable and super clean! I loved every detail of the decor. The bed must have had a memory foam topper because it was very comfortable! The check in process could not have been easier. From booking, to checking in, to checking out, the texts and emails made everything seamless! My room was on the 4th floor and I don't travel light, so hauling my bags up all those stairs was not easy, but I knew it was a walk up. Don't be like me. Pack light, lol! There is a restaurant /bar downstairs that is of the same name. The cocktails are on point and I recommend the chicken caesar salad, which was big enough for 2 and absolutely delicious 😋 Overall, I was very pleased with Society Hill Hotel and will definitely be where I'll be staying next time I'm in the area. **One thing to know is that there is a notable amount of street noise at night on the weekend and the AC was noisy, so I suggest earplugs if you're a light sleeper.

The Society Hill Hotel and restaurant was such a nice experience! I booked a room this past Friday night so I could attend the candle light concert at the seaport museum and have a short walk to where I was staying. The location in Old City Philly seemed like a great choice and only going by the reviews, the Society Hill Hotel seemed like a nice place to stay. First off, the rooms were super clean and nicely decorated. They had a small fridge, tea cups and maker (instant coffee too). Slippers and robes. Even a record player with records! The service was quick to respond as I had an issue with booking online (my own fault) that could have been serious, but Carl responded immediately and was right there to resolve the issue within 2 minutes. He was even apologetic even though it was my fault! Charlette and the rest of the staff at the restaurant were also super friendly and the food was great! Carl was even there to check on our table to make sure we had everything we needed. The location of the restaurant is literally steps from Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and short walking distance to Penns Landing, Franklin Square, even Center City is only a 15 minute walk. This is a great stop centrally located to enjoy all that Philly has to offer. I highly recommend!

Right in the heart of the historical district……very convenient! We really enjoyed the heated toilet so much we will be getting one ourselves for home haha Shower was large and overhead which was amazing. The shampoo and conditioner etc was exquisite. We loved it. Bed was very comfortable and loved how there was a resteraunt below with delicious pizza. When we left we forgot a shirt in the room and had already checked out. We were able to retrieve it which was great. 😊

We stay in so many hotels and AB&B’s and this was a lovely blend of the two. It has such a close feel that you’re being well taken care of like at a hotel, but at the same time you are given all of the space that you want like an AB&B. This is a lovely place that is newly appointed and very clean, but oh so very delightful in their attention to historical charm. And the location is perfect. Incredibly comfortable bed and pillows. There are no words for how much we loved the heated floors in the bathroom, the heated bidet, and the two jet shower! Great water pressure and temp in the shower. Bathrobes and slippers and linens/towels as needed. The soaps and such smelled amazing (and did not wreck my platinum hair!) Wonderful smart tv with easy sign in. The automatic door codes for access to both building and room were so convenient. Flawless. There were parking garages very close by that were adorable and easy but we also had no problem finding street parking the entire time since we were in an out (over a 5 day stay) Cannot state how prime the location is. Easy walk to all of the Old City sights and museums. Amazing restaurants and bars within a few blocks. Easy Uber or Cab pickup and drop off. Felt very safe in the entire neighborhood. The views from our window were gorgeous. The restaurant/bar downstairs was great and very tasty. (Shout out Kyle!). And the coffee/bagel place next door (Olivier Cafe) is great. They need to add that they have a fridge in the room to the listing bc it took my husband a solid 2 days to open the door on his side of the bed and find it. *eyeroll* It IS a walk-up… so factor that in. I had knee surgery in June and had to take it slow but was totally fine. There was some construction going on, on the floor above us while we were there but as I understand from locals they have only had this property for a little while and have turned it over into the ideal and beautiful space it is now that is very modern while still being true to the historic building and neighborhood. Just perfect. High fives all around.

We came here while visiting Philadelphia. A pretty small pizza restaurant but really well done. We started with cocktails which were very good. We had the arancini and was one of the best I have had in the US. Then we had the margarita pizza and it was excellent. Perfectly cooked, thin crust just like I like it. We then had the lemon budino which was amazing. One of the best deserts I have had. We came back a second time and had the calamari for appetizer and the calabrese pizza and both were excellent. Service was very good and price was fair.

Our stay was amazing. The building was perfect - quaint and aesthetic and comfortable. The room came with a working record player, heated bathroom floors and toilet seats….!!!! Everything was perfect with easy check in and we used the parking suggestions nearby and it was super affordable.

Hubby booked here for a little birthday overnight celebration. We stayed in the SHH before the reno and fire when it was a dump. The new owners really paid attention to detail. The hotel was quiet, quaint and decorated so well. Super comfy beds. Keyless entry to hotel and room. No dealing with checking in or checking out - all done via text message. Had the pleasure of having drinks last night at the bar - very good and very busy! We had brunch at the restaurant this morning. It was fantastic!

4.5 stars Great views, nice staff, laid back vibe. We ate the Neapolitan pizzas. The clam pizza was very good with a slight taste of clams and a pronounced Smokey bacon and fontina flavors. It had a cream sauce that complimented it well with a sweet element. The Prosciutto and fig was sweet and salty with fresh Arugula and Balsamic glaze to add pepper and sweet. The spicy had Calabrese, pepperoni, and long hots. It was spicy and smoky but with a hint of sweet from the sauce. The cheese has 4 cheeses but you can't tell, not in a bad way, but they blend well together and it was just enough not too much cheese. One thing I look for is was it well seasoned. Every pizza was well seasoned and crispy. The toppings were well balanced, and had a lot of flavor on all the pizzas. Over all great experience and I would highly recommend if you are in Philly.

Restaurant ONLY review- NOT the Hotel On a cool September night, three friends and I decided on dinner at this newer addition to the neighborhood. I had been following their solemn yet spirited journey on social media and was SO glad to finally see that a vision had become a reality! The entrance of this venue sits on the corner of 2nd and Chestnut and invites you into a cozy time capsule that strikes a beautiful balance of modern elevated with historic warm, all against the backdrop of iconic quintessential Old City. The exposed brick, soft lighting and vintage decor make the ambiance perfect for an intimate date or a laid back hangout with good friends (in my case haha). The attention to service was great; not only did we have a knowledgeable waitress but when it got busy, the chef herself - a sweetheart at that- came to help out and introduced us to her favorite items. We were immediately sold on her crafted sourdough pizza! While we ordered a variety of food, it unfortunately did not wow us as much the ambiance and service did; still a solid 6 to 7/10. The consensus amongst my friend group was that the oysters, the drinks (especially the espresso martini and bees knees) and yes the pizza (we got the clam) were top notch delicious. The sourdough pizza in the brick oven was dare I say a chefs kiss! With that said the main entree tab probably should have more items than just sandwiches and the salads could be more cohesive in their wholeness. All in all a beautifully crafted venue that offers a sleek colonial charm with yummy drinks and pizza! I can't wait to be back for their happy hour. I would def recommend this place for any one passing through, neighbor or tourist alike!

I stopped by the Restaurant & Bar for Happy Hour, due to the sign outside offering drink specials and $5 bites. It's a really cute little space, with a nice bar. I started off with the cucumber gimlet, a well mixed and pretty cocktail. Next up was the calamari. It was a big plate of tasty calamari, but the fried crust was a bit loose and fell off of some pieces and that was annoying. Still a great deal at $5. There was also a pizza special. It was a classic cheese pizza, but it showed off how good that coal oven can cook a crust. The crust was outstanding, making this as good of a cheese pizza as you will find anywhere. I would definitely go back for that pizza deal again! I do hope they keep it as a mainstay of the happy hour menu.

A friend and I stopped in for brunch while in Old City. Unfortunately, they were understaffed that day, so they weren't offering their brunch menu but instead were offering light fares. We opted to eat elsewhere, but we stayed for a drink and marinated olives. For $6, the olives were a heaping portion, served in two bowls, and were quite tasty. The vibe inside was swanky too, and I loved the wallpaper on the ceiling. I'd definitely love to stop back for a full meal sometime.

The hotel room was super cute! The front desk staff were easy to contact by text, even when we weren't physically at the hotel. Checkout was also a breeze for the same reason. The room had many cute personal touches and staff were very accommodating. The location was also close to a variety of restaurants and easy to get to the metro to explore other parts of the city.

Are you intrigued by places with history? Do you like your drinks in vintage glassware? Check out Society Hill Hotel's cozy corner bistro. The staff was very welcoming and food was quick to arrive. Fig & prosciutto pizza was a little salty, almost bacon like. Figs were fresh. The margarita pie tasted of fresh tomatoes and basil. Beyond the pizza and breakfast items, the menu could be more approachable though. I could see this being popular with hotel guests, but hotel stay is not required.

Got severe food poisoning after eating the anchovy sourdough pizza. Had to see the doctor multiple times over it and took a full week to recover. Will not be going back to say the least.

Ended up here one recent summer evening by total chance. They must be in a soft launch phase because there's no liquor license as of my visit. But they graciously offered free beer and hard ciders with food orders. The pizza dough is made with a sourdough starter and had a lovely char. Burrata and local greens salad was amazing! They did a really nice job updating the space while keeping the vibes intact from previous incarnations. It brought back some happy memories from the mid-aughts hanging at basically the same exact bar stool! Service was sweet and endearing at the bar. The banquettes looked very comfy. They also serve brunch and make bagels onsite for breakfast?! A solid place to grab a drink, a bite to eat, or a full meal that isn't super trendy or douchey in the Old City area. Just right imo.

The menu at the Society Hill hotel leaves much to be desired. We say there for 20 minutes trying to find something suitable to order. We had the Burrata salad that literally had no dressing on it. When it arrived at the table, it looked so unappealing. It tasted just like it looked. The pizza tasted sour, and that was NOT due to the sourdough crust. The cheese on the pizza tasted spoiled. We left most of it after a few bites. Overall, a pretty dismal experience food-wise. Our server was lovely and the only bright spot of our visit.

Absolutely breathtaking space in a beautifully re-visioned older building with modern Art Deco takes and the most beautiful pizza oven. The Bianca pizza is hands down the best pizza I've had in quite a long time. Would love to come back!

On a very cold evening, we had a lovely happy hour celebrating a family birthday. What more can you ask for? Oysters, attentive wait service and hot, delicious pizza. The crab fries are a great dish. It was a relaxing environment where you can hear each other talk!

We stopped here after the marathon yesterday to celebrate before heading back to NYC and we really loved it. The espresso martini is PERFECT (some of us had the tequila version as it is on the menu, but I substituted in vodka - both were very good!). We got the Margherita and Bianco pizzas, pancakes, and roast pork sandwich - all were delicious. The service was great (we had the friendliest waitress) and the ambiance was lovely for a sunny Sunday afternoon! I will absolutely return next time we are in Philadelphia.

Dining at Society Hill Hotel is like stepping into a parallel universe where incompetence is celebrated and human misery is the main course. The food is revolting, and the service was equally as terrible. This place truly hit the trifecta of awful experiences, with a resounding 0/100 for the food, drinks, and service. Attaching photographs of what the chef called "blueberry pancakes", but was more representative of vulcanized rubber than anything I've ever had for breakfast. Please, feel reach out to me if you ever have the inkling to visit this establishment, I would love to try to talk you off the ledge.

Wonderful food, lobster Mac and cheese is to die for. Service provided by Logan was outstanding , wonderfully attentive and knowledgeable about the menu! Thank you for making our lunch so amazing and I hope you get recognized for your service.

Just opened this past week and just got their liquor license June 21st - the longest day. I ate & drank wine on Wed and Fri this past week. Renee' is the chef, and sour dough pizza is excellent, but the burrata salad was not so good (Renee' was not working this Fri). Oysters were good, but simply too costly. Yes they are working out the kinks, but I wine costs are too high. Don't we all love Philly's 10% liquor tax that "supposedly" goes directly to the disgraceful school system. Wine should never be priced more than 2x bottle cost, but that is another story. Rose was good, but $15 a glass. Should be no more than $10. I will give this place some time, and try again. The place is attractive, but they must improve pricing overall. I am confident Renee' will put out interesting and well prepared food. They help was friendly, but still learning.

The recent tasteful renovations have brought new life to this corner (3rd & Chestnut) of Philadelphia. Creative renovations of the exterior and interior kept the 19th Century feeling: including the wallpapered ceiling and antique fixtures. Their happy hour can't be beat! Enjoy the oysters and the sauces, the pizzas. The wait staff is friendly and efficient. I get there about 3 times a month and have never been disappointed.

Amazing staff and the food was the absolute best. We had the spicy pizza and it was the best we've ever had! Burrata salad was unforgettable and the arancini were so unique and delicious. Apparently they just opened a couple of weeks ago and I sure hope this is the beginning of a very very long run! DO NOT visit Philly without treating yourself to a meal here.

Great location. Lovely hotel. Yummy breakfast. Can't wait to go back for dinner and try the pizza from that incredible pizza over!! To the guy who gave it a one star review, they've been open a week or two. Give them a chance. Common to use a code to check in but I do think they need an after-hours number that you can call and speak to a person if you need help.

First trip back and it did not disappoint. Three of us ordered crab cake sandwich, bagels and lox platter, and fig and prosciutto pizza. All excellent as was the service. Welcome back to the neighborhood.

We tried this newly redone bar/restaurant with hotel upstairs. We sat T the bar for happy hour (great specials). We split pizza and salad. Everything was delicious! I was hoping for leftovers, but it was so good we ate it all.

Best pizza in the city hands down! Service from Gio was superb. Oyster selection was amazing, atmosphere unbeatable. This is a new hidden gem Philadelphia needed. 9.9/10, and no one gets a 10.

I had to download yelp to write this review. The food is exceptionally bad. First, there was a limited menu due to issue with the gas stove. Not a problem. We were given a limited menu but when we started ordering, half the menu was not available. So I got the most expensive item on the menu u which was a lobster roll aka cat food. I spent $24 on cat food.... Patté for my cat at home. The Cesar dressing for the side salad was disgusting. The drinks were good though! The service was also very good. I wished I ate at McDonalds instead of the place. With it being in old city, there are sooooo many better options. Definitely a skip. What I find sad is this place sat vacant for years and I think it should go back to being that way.

Food incredible, service amazing, exactly what old city needed. Can't wait to be a regular.

My two best friend's and I stayed here in the Livingston Room and it was absolutely perfect! It was clean, in a nice part of Olde City with historical treasures right around the corner, and a great price. We will be planning another trip soon and will definitely be staying here again.

This place sucks - we booked a room here, flew out from LA and when we got here at 11pm there was no person working there and no phone number - they forgot to send us a digital code to get in so we were stuck on the street of Philadelphia at 2 am searching for another hotel - good luck staying here

My mom, sister and I stopped in for lunch today after an excruciatingly long doctor's appointment at Wills Eye down the street. It is beautifully done on the inside, and we enjoyed noticing the elegant details- in particular how the coffee bags and cups matched the floral design on the ceiling. Nice touch! But also the simple flowers adorning the tables and the classy gold cutlery. My sis and I enjoyed pizzas- they were amazing, and my mom thought her crab cake sandwich was delicious. We also were well taken care of by the delightful bartender, and enjoyed a chat with one of the owners. Can't wait to go back for a stay in the city!
