The Best Soft Serve In NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"Soft Swerve has been making ube ice cream since 2016, and they now have six locations serving the aforementioned ube, as well as black sesame, vanilla, and hojicha. This place has a bunch of different toppings like mochi and Fruity Pebbles, and their LES location is a great spot for a cone after a dumpling crawl in Chinatown." - willa moore, hannah albertine, arden shore, molly fitzpatrick

"The flavors at Soft Swerve are ube, coconut, black sesame, and Hong Kong milk tea. They also have a bunch of different toppings like mochi and Cap’n Crunch. Google
Thick soft serve. I had higher expectations of the chocolate eclair sundae than what I got. I felt like it was lacking flavor/sweetness/chocolate. There was just something missing. I was pretty underwhelmed. However, my aunt thought it was delicious. Lots of unique flavors and regular ice cream (other than soft serve) is available.

Google
This place is 100% delicious. They have a rotating selection of Asian twist ice-cream and sorbet flavors. There may be a line, but it moves quickly and absolutely worth the wait. Additionally consider taking a pint to go to share with family and friends. I highly recommend Ube and Thai Tea flavors

Google
Ube sticky butter cake and strawberry lychee scoops. A little expensive for two scoops (I think it was close to $12), but very good. I liked the ube sticky butter cake a lot, and the inclusions were super tasty. Only real regret is not getting it as the base because it seemed to be a lot more solid than the strawberry lychee, so maybe giving it the extra time to soften would have made eating it a bit easier. I kind of kicked myself for not going with the namesake soft serve, but the hand scoops just looked too good to pass up. Overall, good ice cream, nice and unique flavor selection, worth trying.

Google
Unique flavors of ice cream. I got the strawberry lychee which was so refreshing and good. A little expensive for two scoops of ice cream in a cone though.

Google
these guys cell giant scoops of ice cream like nobody's business. it's definitely been done first by the Brooklyn Chinatown factory but their flavors are on point. here's a summary of the flavors for records - hk milk tea, ube are top - thai tea is also great - viet cofee is too strong and almond coffee is reg - matcha tastes like american matcha latte foresty

Google
I seemed to catch the business on an off day today. I asked if the soft serve flavors could be swirled and the employee didn’t know what that meant. I ordered one of the advertised sundaes on the board and he seemed to not know how to make it and then also tried to overcharge me for it. Also seems like a sad little portion for $8.50 compared to the other pictures I’m seeing but it does taste good.

Google
Very good soft serve ice cream. I got a special Sunday, that included mochi, toasted coconut, and ube soft serve. I loved the textural combo and the ube had a gentle flavor. If you want something stronger, go for the ube sticky butter icecream. The soft serve Sunday was a good portion size, I would say that it’s “just” shareable. What I mean by that is if you have a small craving for sweets, but don’t want to commit to a big cup, this is good for two people. It’s more than enough for one person. The cup shown here was 9.25 (tax included). Staff were really nice too, I’d come back again if I’m craving sweets in the area.

Google
Save room for dessert when visiting the DeKalb Market for Soft Swerve! 🍦 This ice cream stall boasts a great selection of ice cream flavors with Asian flair such as black sesame, matcha, almond cookie, ube, lychee, Thai tea and Vietnamese coffee. There is a selection of soft serve flavors including black sesame - which is what we got. We tried both the black sesame and ube; both were excellent and not too sweet but the black sesame is 👌🏼 Stop by Soft Swerve for a sweet treat, highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Yelp
I loved the Ube ice cream. Honestly, the chunks inside was the best, so I'm very disappointed when there aren't that many.

Yelp
The line is long no matter what time you show up at the establishment! It is a very popular spot and the staff does it best to move the line but it takes forever. We showed up at 9:45 pm on Friday night and it still took a bit of time. The soft serve black sesame was all right. However UBE with butter cake won! Also $8.17 is like insane but I know the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory charges the same so ... same your pennies and treat yourself.

Yelp
I've been a Soft Swerve fan for years, so I'm glad they have a location in Brooklyn at DeKalb Market. Very convenient for grabbing some ice cream when visiting Trader Joe's or shopping elsewhere in the building, especially during this hot weather. They have both soft serve and scooped ice cream, but we mostly come for my kid's favorite, which is the ube soft serve. Service has been quick and friendly, and they've had all the information we needed for our food allergy questions.

Yelp
A great spot inside DeKalb for a sweet treat. ILOVED. The black sesame soft serve! Glad there are locations all over nyc.

Yelp
I've been a huge Soft Swerve fan when I first got hooked from their presence on social media. I visited on Thursday and the staff was not cordial as usual. Cleanliness was a major concern on this occasion.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious ice cream! I got the chocolate, which was just a fantastic chocolate, ice cream, and the ube. The ube was possibly my favourite ube ice cream I've had. It was filled throughout with chunks of mochi, which added such an incredible flavour in texture. The price isn't the cheapest, but the scoops are hefty to make up for it.

Elentiya M.

Yelp
their ube ice cream IS SOOO GOOD. had the time to be in Brooklyn and i'm so glad to have crossed paths with soft swerve. As a Filipino, their ube ice cream gets a 10/10 -- especially with the mochi i'm gonna miss that.

Yelp
Stopped here for a late night snack. There was no line so we were able to order right away and the worker was really nice. Since it's in dekalb market there's a lot of seating around the booth. We got a cup of half yakult and half strawberry lychee. We also got a pint of the hong kong milk tea to take home. The yakult and strawberry lychee were so light and refreshing! The milk tea was amazing! It tasted just like milk tea and the flavor was strong. Definitely coming back here!

Yelp
Didn't even realize that they have vegan options. They have both ube and pineapple vegan options. The desserts were yummy. I got the ube on a cup and it was creamy and delicious. Next time i stop by I'll try the pineapple sorbet
google avatar

Kensie E.

Yelp
I love the Asian flavors they offer, you get a lot of bang for your buck big scoops and taste amazing! I come here all the time for friends just for fun. Fair warning the ube ice cream will dye your mouth purple

Yelp
Lovely ice cream stall in Dekalb Market! They feature a selection of Asian ice cream flavors, including Hong Kong Milk Tea and Black Sesame, as well as different waffle cone flavors. We went during the Dekalb Lunar New Year celebration, and we just waited a few minutes since the line was a few people long. My friend got the Ube ice cream (which is vegan-friendly since she's vegan), and the server was friendly and fast. They had cats hanging on the wall and lanterns up for Lunar New Year, and it felt in place with the bustling ambiance of the rest of the food hall.
google avatar

Anna K.

Yelp
Ordered two ice creams from Dekalb Market! It came with ice packs and really fresh and cold!! Black sesame ice cream was phenomenal!! Full of taste! We also got Matcha ice cream but the milk amount is different? This one melts really fast and honestly this Matcha ice cream is just ok. $8 each. Good experience!

Yelp
If you live/work in the downtown Brooklyn you must make a visit to Soft Swerve. Finding Soft swerve is a chore. Look for the Dekalb Food Market in the basement of 445 Albee Square. My effort was not in vain. I ordered their version of a Chocolate Eclaire. It was expensive, but definitely worth it. I almost hit the ceiling at $9.25, but it was so good that I left a happy camper. I probably won't be back anytime soon however.

Sophia N.

Yelp
Solid ice cream with fun Asian flavors. I got a pint of the ube flavor and took it home to enjoy. I felt the ice cream actually tasted like ube and was pretty creamy. They also have nice tea flavored soft serves that looked good too.
google avatar

Susan G.

Yelp
Such a creative ice cream place in Brooklyn! I tried the ube butter cake, Vietnamese coffee, lychee, and Thai ice tea. My favorites were the ube and the lychee. I would come back just for those! The serving sizes are large. This is inside Dekalb market so there's plenty of seating around. We got to try some other flavors before we ordered.
google avatar

Vicki C.

Yelp
Love all the Asian flavors available! Black sesame is thick and flavorful. Great addition to the neighborhood
google avatar

Eric F.

Yelp
Outstanding soft serve, both the vanilla and especially the black sesame popped on the palate with no shortage of creamy goodness! The ice cream flavors were also very good and included Asian influences like strawberry lychee, HK milk tea, Thai tea, and pumpkin spice Dalgona coffee. Absolutely worth trying and funny enough, it was the best item of the 8+ stalls we tried at DeKalb Market.
google avatar

Amit K.

Yelp
Ice cream place in the busy for market. They have a lot of adult favours (Asian inspired) like matcha, lychee etc. Pricy but a good large scoop. Worth it.
google avatar

Chalita P.

Yelp
Love the flavors available. Majority were pretty unique like black sesame and Thai tea and ube sticky butter cake. The staff was friendly; shout out to the guy recommending his favorite flavor. I ended up ordering the blue berry cheesecake and it did not disappoint. There were actual bite size chunks of cheesecake! The flavor is very light blueberry taste. Very thick and creamy! I'm a fan.

Yelp
Stopped here for some ice cream as i wanted something sweet. I got a simple vanilla soft serve in a cup. The ice cream was creamy and delicious. The service was fast and i was able to taste a flavor that i was curious about which was nice. Since this is inside the dekalb market hall you have to look for seating as the majority of the booths dont have seatings in the booth.you have to walk around to find seats. The staff was friendly and quick with their service.
google avatar

Jane S.

Yelp
Really great quality ice cream, whether scoop or soft serve! It's not too sweet and they have interesting flavors. Always recommend!

Natalia F.

Yelp
A normal cone is 7.50 dollars. That is OUTRAGEOUS. even for New York. please lower those prices. otherwise the flavors are super good
google avatar

Yelp
In the underground of the Albee Square market, this refreshing ice cream shop was there in my time of need. Service is quick, employees are nice, place is nice and have tons of other options. What I got is the Ube Sticky Butter Cake and all I can say is that it's delicious. The thick creamy texture, the flavor of the purple yam hits the spot. Plus there's some chunks of butter cake and blends well with the soft serve. 10/10 Also there are try out options and I do say try the Thai tea flavor. Taste just like the tea itself lol

Yelp
Soft Swerve is a delicious local ice creamery with Asian inspired flavors based in Manhattan Chinatown and expanding their empire to the Dekalb Market Hall. They are a worthy heir to the ample hills space and I am a fan of both their scooped and soft serve ice creams. Try the matcha soft or the strawberry lychee scoop. Even if there is a line, the staff are very fast and you'll be seen shortly. They're very friendly and happy to suggest flavors. Servings start at $7-8 so this is a little pricy feeling for a treat. I wish they offered a kids' size that was smaller.
google avatar

Nunu B.

Yelp
Service is good. I was able to try different flavor. But what I didn't understand was why some flavor they gave you decent portion to try but some flavor they gave you very little to try. Here offers a lot of Asian flavor ice cream. What sucks is you can't get two flavors unless you size up to 2 big scoops. Unlike other ice cream shops I was able to do 1/2 and 1/2 for one scoop, here they kinda forced you to pay extra if you want to try 2 flavors. And the scoop is big. It's very fattening. Normal girls can't finish two scoops. So unless you share with friends, I would not recommend get two scoops. Overall it's nice flavors. But very pricey. $10 for ice cream is still pretty steep in NY.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
The scoops are very large. I ordered two scoops - almond cookie and strawberry lychee. Both were very good, but the almond cookie in particular was really delicious. I was hoping to see black sesame as a flavor, but I didn't see it. My order came to $10 plus tax. They have many different toppings, including condensed milk, which you don't see too often. I ordered mine plain. Finding a place to sit can be challenging during busy times. I was there at 3pm in the afternoon so it was fine.
google avatar

Jess D.

Yelp
Ahhhh... yessss... the elusive UBE. Got the Ube sticky butter cake. If you love a bit of yammy buttery goodness then this is up your alley. However, let's not discount the rest of the selection. Impeccable and also has vegan options. They let you have a taste too if you're curious!
google avatar

Briana H.

Yelp
Just so delicious. I've tried other flavors but that Ube soft serve is out of this world. If you like some thing, a little less sweet, the black sesame is a way to go. The toppings are fun, but honestly, you don't need it.

Vanessa C.

Yelp
Love all of their Asian flavors. Family friendly and something for everyone. Ube and matcha are my favorite.

Samuel

Yelp
The food, and service was amazing, I definitely recommend this place! It has a great ambiance in dekalb market!
google avatar

Sharmila T.

Yelp
The guy who gave me ice cream was very sweet! He gave me a huge scoop but I wanted a waffle cone and he gave me a plastic one. And the ice cream I got was the Hong Kong milk tea cuz I love milk tea and it was quite strong I had it with mochi but very good.
google avatar

Leilani S.

Yelp
This place is so good! I love all the different and unique flavors that have! The workers are always super nice and I love that they offer samples. There's plenty of seating in Dekalb market. The portions are very generous for the size. Tried a bunch of flavors but ended up getting the Thai tea and the honk Kong milk tea! Both super flavorful and tasted just like the name. The almond cookie ice cream is really good as well! The strawberry lychee was kind of a let down for me, the strawberry was over powering. I def would come back again!
google avatar

Peaches A.

Yelp
Ube soft serve was delicious! A little pricey at $8 but it was good to share with a friend. In a busy food court with many options too

Ilana D.

Yelp
every ice cream flavor i've tried from here is to die for! such good quality ice cream with yummy flavors
google avatar

Namgyal W.

Yelp
ice-cream was melted in less than 5 minutes after buying i understand it being a soft serve but to melt so fast how can you even enjoy it not coming back also the lady behind the counter was rude
