Best Los Angeles Restaurants for Takeout and Delivery, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"Los Feliz sushi spot Sogo Roll Bar has expanded with a second location along a busy stretch of York Boulevard in Highland Park, growing its takeout and delivery reach further east. The restaurant is a partnership between David Gibbs and Kiminobu Saito, founders of the renowned Valley sushi restaurant Sushi Note, and Sarah Dietz and Dustin Lancaster, industry veterans behind Los Angeles bars including Bar Covell, L&E Oyster Bar, and Real Charmer. The menu features roll sets with fish options such as snapper, yellowtail, and salmon. Starters include spicy tuna crispy rice, black cod, salmon sashimi, and baked crab crispy rice. Donburi topped with a choice of raw fish like salmon or albacore, black cod, or cucumber and avocado. Sogo has its delivery set-up figured out, with well-organized takeout boxes and fresh fish that can stand up to delivery. Order takeout or delivery directly through Sogo Roll Bar." - Rebecca Roland

Sushi Restaurant Sogo Roll Bar Opens Its Second Location in Highland Park | Eater LA

"Opening June 4 at 5535 York Boulevard in Highland Park, this hand-roll–focused sushi bar is an expansion of the Los Feliz original from partners David Gibbs and Kiminobu Saito (of Sushi Note) and Sarah Dietz and Dustin Lancaster (of Bar Covell, L&E Oyster Bar, and Real Charmer). It debuts the same menu of hand and cut rolls, donburi, and starters — including cucumber salad — with roll sets featuring fish like snapper, yellowtail, and salmon; shareable starters such as spicy tuna crispy rice, black cod, salmon sashimi, and baked crab crispy rice; larger donburis topped with salmon, albacore, black cod, or cucumber and avocado; and individual rolls like toro, spicy tuna, and unagi. The Highland Park location places a bigger emphasis on its drinks program (sakes categorized as “light and refreshing,” “savory and interesting,” and “fruity and funky”), along with wine, beer, and nonalcoholic options, aiming to be both a drinking-and-snack destination and a spot for full meals. The two-month renovation of the former Holcomb space includes green Japanese stucco walls, maroon heron-print Gucci wallpaper, lighting by Simon St. James of New Made LA, custom earth-tone serveware from Ellery Stoneware, a long wooden bar, a handful of tables, and a street-facing patio ideal for sake and snacks. Most roll sets sit around the $30 range to encourage regular visits, and the opening brings an all-day sushi option to a neighborhood with few Japanese restaurants; hours are Monday–Thursday 12:00–9:00 and Friday–Saturday 12:00–10:00." - Rebecca Roland

Loved my visit to Sogo Roll Bar! The interior decor is clean, modern, and inviting—perfect spot to relax. Justin gave great recommendations and top-notch service throughout. The vibe was calm with chill music playing in the background, making the experience even better. The hand rolls were excellent—especially the snapper and yellowtail, super fresh and flavorful. And the spicy tuna crispy rice is a must-try—crispy, spicy, and addictive. Will definitely be coming back!

I love this place! It used to be a wine bar before they took over and I would come with my dog to sip a glass of wine on the patio. Happy to report I can still do that and eat some delicious food as well. Currently their patio has limited food offerings (just starters & rice bowls) but hopefully they’ll be able to serve their full menu outside too once they’re more settled. Just keep that in mind if you’re coming with a dog! The crispy rice, and donburi are amazing. And the service is so friendly and kind. So happy they’re in the neighborhood.

Excellent hand rolls at a reasonable price. Lovely new neighborhood spot serving up sushi and donburi bowls. Black cod bowl was very tasty. Salmon sashimi appetizer was enough for two people. Hand rolls can also be cut into 4 pieces for easier sharing. Albacore Kari Kari was my favorite. Large menu of sake. Sushi bar is comfortable and there is also seating outside. In the same spot as the old Holcomb's wine bar. Service was speedy and everyone was friendly. Will be back.

Been going to a little bit too much happy hour sushi and forgot how good it could really be. Sōgo reminded me real quick with an uppercut of flavor to the jaw. Great saké selection too. Get you a flight of hand rolls and a good drink.

Google
Sogo serves up delicious fairly modern sushi. Beautiful lush newly remodeled space-- everything is cool dark green and light wood. Our waitress served us impeccably. Things were a bit chaotic behind the bar, but they've only been open a week and I'm sure their efficiency will improve. Highlights were the scallop roll and the cucumber avocado roll, which was surprisingly flavorful. Their ponzu sauce is the star of the show!

My new favorite spot. The sake and food was excellent and well priced. The staff was also very friendly and efficient. Will be convincing all my friends to meet me here for a nice drink and bite during catch ups.

Google
Such a great spot. The staff was incredibly welcoming from the moment we walked in: warm, attentive, but never overbearing. Special thanks to Danny, the GM, who made us feel like regulars from the start. He brings such a genuine, generous energy to the space; it really sets the tone. The sushi was fresh and beautifully prepared, and you can tell they really care about the quality of ingredients. Everything felt thoughtful but unpretentious. Great vibes, great food; I'll ’ll definitely be back.

Yelp
I've been to (one too) many hand roll bars and Sōgo Roll Bar is - hands down - the best spot in town. - LOVE the staff's easy-but-super-pro vibe. - The decor is trendy but welcoming - seats are super comfy, too. - The food is AH-MAZING!!! My faves so far (I haven't tried everything on the menu.., yet) are: Baked crab crispy rice, lobster roll, albacore roll, scallop roll. HOT TIPS: - If you order a set, you can ask to swap out one roll. I swapped out the spicy tuna with the lobster roll from +$2 (I think) - Dinner wait times can get pretty intense (there's a small patio where you can wait and order drinks tho) but we went here for lunch today and we got seated right away. So happy to have discovered Sōgo!!!!!!!

Yelp
3.5 stars, but rounding up to four due to excellent service and beautiful ambiance. Sogo Roll Bar is a new addition to Highland Park, this is their second location (first one in Los Feliz, as they told me!) I'd never been to the first location so this was my very first experience with them. // FOOD // - 3/5 stars I ordered a set of 4 handrolls - and they let me swap out the snapper for the toro which was nice. The rolls varied in taste/quality... but one thing they had in common was the lackluster seaweed holding together the rolls. I'm not sure if it's the brand or because it's a little stale, but I had a pretty hard time being able to take bites out of the handrolls (had to kind of pull at the rolls to get the bites down). Seaweed is a pretty big component of handrolls! - salmon & spicy tuna handroll both rated (4/5): was my favorite!! the salmon was fresh and the roll tasted very good. spicy tuna was pretty yummy too - yellowfish handroll (3.5/5) was good! seemed also a little less buttery compared to most yellowtail I've had - toro handroll (2.5/5): possibly the most disappointing roll unfortunately. the fish did not taste very toro-like, it wasn't very buttery as toro usually is. and the color was a little darker and didn't seem very bright. not sure if that's an indicator of how fresh it is, but the taste was definitely subpar. // AMBIANCE // - 5/5 stars Ambiance was spectacular. It was newly decorated, the bar seating was really cute, albeit the stools felt a bit too far from the bar so I kind of had to lean forward a bit. Probably doesn't help because I'm a shortie though! // SERVICE // - 5 stars Super friendly service. The ambiance and the fantastic service fully convinced me they deserved the rounding up to 4 stars. However, I hope they take some time to look into the quality of their handrolls, would love to come back and support this new location!

Yelp
Pretty solid. The rolls were super fresh and the baked crab was nicely baked with just the right amount of char. Wait staff was nice; provided coloring sheets and crayons for the kids. And if your kids don't eat fish, they can do rice and shredded seaweed. Was a hit with them. Parking is on the street. Was easy to get when we went around 12:30 on a Saturday.

Yelp
Sōgo recently opened their second location in the spot where Holcomb used to be. The space is quaint & cozy and the décor is charming. Founded by esteemed Sushi Chef Kiminobu Saito, Sōgo places an emphasis on serving high quality hand rolls that are the perfect bite size treats. Rolls are available a la carte or they offer a set menu of pre-selected handrolls - 3 ($20), 4 ($24), 5 ($50), & 6 ($36), which is convenient. Donburi is available as well, in addition to staples such as Edamame, Cucumber Salad, & Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice. I ordered a Spicy Tuna Roll & Albacore Kari Kari Roll. The Spicy Tuna contained Kewpie Mayo, Ponzu, Chili Oil, Scallion, & Masago. The Albacore Kari Kari had a Garlic Ginger Ponzu, Brandy, & Crispy Onions. The rice was moist, and the fish was fresh. I enjoyed the interesting flavor combinations and uniqueness of each one. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other menu options. *Street Parking *Sake, Beer, & Wine

Yelp
This is a great local spot for hand rolls, we would def come back- the staff was friendly and the vibe was breeezy laid back Japanese bar. Having been too a lot of Japanese bars/restaurants-- The only feedback is the hand roll price isn't the cheapest (comparing against kazunori) and the seaweed can be a bit crisper-- would recommend the chef/cook cover the seaweed and toast as needed since we noticed the seaweed ate pretty chewy since it sat out. Otherwise the food, service overall was pretty decent. Would def come back on occasion.

Yelp
I am a big fan of Sogo in Silverlake, so I was real excited to try the new location. They managed to capture the same great ambience, food, and wonderful service as the Silverlake location. If you haven't been, definitely get the crispy rice and the albacore.
