Sōhn - Review - Dogpatch - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Sōhn is a Korean cafe in the old Daily Driver—the multi-floor space in Dogpatch is now a spot for specialty lattes and patty melts with beef and kimchi slaw, as well as desserts like peach-sesame cobbler. They also have a retail section, and plenty of seating. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Julia Chen

Sōhn: San Francisco’s Koreaworld Just Got Bigger with chef Deuki Hong | Eater SF

"Positioned in the tremendous former Daily Driver space at 2535 3rd Street, this community‑minded project from chef Deuki Hong and managing partner Janet Lee is designed as a launch pad for events and art as much as a place for Hong’s immaculate food and thoughtful drinks. The name is a derivative of the Korean word for hand, underscoring their insistence that the space is a product of many hands and a showcase for Korean makers in California and beyond. On the menu: Korean barbecue done up as a patty melt, warming bowls of jook, a fermentation lab for kimchi and other goods, and even popcorn chicken carried over from Hong’s late Sunday Bird. Drinks run from matcha by big‑hitter Kettl to coffee from Los Angeles’s Be Bright, plus a daily Melona soda homage. The 8,000‑square‑foot, hushed, lo‑fi‑looking room—interior designer Cathie Hong’s first commercial project—adds a 12‑seat bar and retail from some 30 Korean makers selling blankets, candle makers, and ceramic critters, while artist workshops, collab dinners, pop‑ups, and cooking classes are already in the plans; the first art partner is the Korean American Art Collective, with featured art selling at 100 percent proceeds going to the artists. They may never do a dinner service, they say; when you come in, it makes sense, and the space opens on Korean Liberation Day with a grand opening at 10 a.m. and full hours to come." - Paolo Bicchieri

I’m excited to see how Sohn will turn out in a few months. I visited the space today to catch up with a friend while I had a short trip to SF. My friend warned of the possible long lines and wait for dining in but Sohn offers a different line for takeout which is great if you’re in a hurry. I waited about 15-20minutes when there was ~10 people out the the door, and an employee came out multiple times to offer some seaweed chex mix while we were waiting. The staff are really friendly and seem well organized and communicative. The space almost feels like a full service restaurant with the level of service that is provided. I got the matcha latte with cream top and popcorn chicken that came with rice cakes. The matcha latte was reasonably priced at $7 and pretty good. It wasn’t too strong but you could still taste the matcha. The popcorn chicken was really crunchy but I felt it was kind of dry and had a strong chicken flavor. Maybe if it was fried differently to be juicier or was paired with a sauce it could be better. The rice cakes had a seaweed seasoning and were alright but not outstanding. The portions also felt small for the food (attached photos are before any consumption). However, you can tell the food presentation and taste are designed very intentionally but I felt like there’s still room for improvement. Overall, the space feels like a great place to hang out with friends and chill with a variety of cafe drinks and some entrees/sides. As I understand, they are relatively new and haven’t been open for long. I’m excited to see how Sohn will be like in a year and how they can build off their already impressive operations.

The ambiance is very pleasant and modern, with ample space and bright lighting. Surprisingly, there was no line around 11 am. I ordered a galbi patty melt, popcorn chicken, and mayak egg rice to go. The popcorn chicken with rice cake was quite good. It was well-seasoned, and the seaweed powder added a delightful kick. However, the galbi melt was too greasy and lacked balance. At $16, I won’t be ordering it again. The mayak egg rice was simply a bowl of rice with Japanese-style onsen tamago and soy sauce. It was nothing special and, in my opinion, overpriced at $14.

A new matcha cafe in the area and wanted to try it out! The line was quite long on the weekends but they had two floors. The matcha with cream top was good. The patty melt was good too but it’s a bit small and plain for its price ($16 for a small croissant-wich with beef patty and kimchi coleslaw). The kimchi fried rice was good too but it’s wasn’t anything too special and didn’t have any meat in it 🥲. I would come here for the ambiance but not if you want a traditional cafe space for coworking. Honestly it feels more like a mix between restaurant & cafe!

What a gem in the center of Dogpatch! This newly-opened cafe/restaurant is a winner! The Korean-inspired food here is creative and delicious. The service is incrediby warm and inviting. The staff will make you feel right at home. And the lofted space is filled with light and feels elevated and welcoming. The Sohn breakfast sandwich with Korean steamed egg and the Galbi patty melt with Korean bbq beef are my two favorite items off the menu. And their signature banana oat milk hoijcha pairs beautifully with the meal!

I ordered a cappuccino, kimchi fried rice and popcorn chicken. Portion sizes are pretty big, I couldn’t finish both the dishes. I wish they would add an option to add chicken to the fried rice. The rice itself was delicious and flavorful. It was fried properly to crisp and the roasted kimchi smelled so good. It’s served in a lunch box so that’s cool, it adds to the aesthetic. Popcorn friend chicken was seasoned which made it delicious too. Baristas here know what they’re doing, cappuccino is perfect consistency and temperature. Beans are definitely freshly roasted. Beautiful ambience. You can actually work here, or bring a date or come with a group of 3-7 people. My only complaint is the unavailability of staff. They weren’t too busy but still it took me REALLY long to ask someone for water and then for takeout boxes. There was basically no one in the section I was sitting for like 20 minutes. When they do come they’re super nice, friendly and politely guided me to the shelf with take out boxes. Maybe the place is a bit short staffed, I’m not sure.

A nice cafe to catch up with a friend over a delicious matcha latte or to grab lunch. We came around noon on a Wednesday and the line was ~5 parties long, and about 20-30mins before we got seated. The line seemed to move quickly but be prepared to wait. We ordered the banana oat latte and cream top matcha latte - both were delicious but we liked the banana oat latte best. We also ordered kimchi fried rice, cold noodles, fried chicken, and the gochujang caramel cookie. The food was delicious and I loved the added mochi in the fried chicken. The cookie tasted like a very delicious chewy snickerdoodle. We left around 130/2pm and there was still a line of ~5 parties but I can totally see why and am already planning my trip back!

Google
the open space concept makes you feel like you’re in a museum. The different seating areas are great for choosing to sit and work quietly, have an intimate coffee date, dine with a large group, or hang out in the lounge area.. The food is authentically good and appreciate the non-coffee drink options. I didn’t try their pastries but looking forward to going back for that! There are two lines - left side for dine in and right side for takeout.

Stopped by Sohn during their soft opening and loved everything about it. The space is bright, modern, and welcoming, perfect for hanging out or getting some work done. The drinks are the highlight: the banana oat milk matcha is a standout, and their cream tops are next-level. The pastries are not only beautiful but absolutely delicious (the strawberry toast is a must!). This place already feels like a neighborhood gem and has all the makings of a future SF staple. Can’t wait to see it grow.

Yelp
The first thing you need to know: order the galbi patty melt. you'll regret it if you don't. It's not actually galbi, but the juicy beef patty, melted cheese, flavorful sauce, and that buttery, flaky croissant bun come together perfectly. My husband ordered it, and I basically ate his meal. And I wished I ordered two. I got the spicy cold noodles, which were also delicious, but let's be real.....the patty melt was the star of the show. I would say it is one of a kind and the one thing you must get if you visit this café. For drinks, my husband got the hojicha with house cream, and I tried the banana cream matcha. Both were great, but if you can only choose one, go with something that has the sohn signature cream. It's amazing. The space itself is super cute and trendy, with subtle Korean touches in the decor and signs. I love that they play K-pop in the background, I think it adds to the vibe. The only downside was seeing people leave their tables messy even though there's a sign asking customers to clean up after themselves. Overall, I'm already planning my next visit.

Yelp
Their matcha was absolutely delicious, super rich and not watered down. There's two lines when you go, one for dine in and one for to go. Make sure you put your name down for the yelp waitlist when you get there! We took it to go today but our drinks came out super quickly. Along the right corner of the store they have different items for local artists you can buy! Looks like there's a lot of seating too, will definitely have to come back to try their food!

Yelp
Food: 3/5 Vibes: 5/5 Galbi patty melt: patty on a nice, flaky sesame croissant. It had nice flavor and crunch but it was hard to eat after a few bites because it felt pretty heavy from the croissant and fat from the cheese. Breakfast sandwich: flakey sesame croissant with cheese, egg, and sweet onion spread. I wished the onion spread was spread more evenly throughout it did add a sweetness it needed to balance the savory Popcorn chicken: had a nice twist of seaweed flakes but I didn't think it was anything too special... just chicken with regular seasoning with an added flavor Banana hojicha lattte: the banana flavor on this actually tasted like real banana! I don't think I liked the hojicha here... it felt almost too bitter, even as someone who usually drinks hojicha and matcha a lot without sweetner. I wasn't a fan of the mix of the two flavors that much I'll definitely come here again for the vibes and to try the matcha drinks, but probably won't re-order anything from this visit.

Yelp
I loved the vibes of this cafe!! SOHN is a great addition to area. Super cozy and the food and drinks are delicious, too :) I came after finding them on social media. It was a Thursday, and my friend and I had arrived about 15 minutes before they opened. There was already a long line out the door! We opted to sit inside on the second floor since it offered nicer views. Onto the food/drinks: + SŌHN BREAKFAST SANDWICH ($14) (4/5): The bacon jam? So good! You'd need to eat this quickly since the bottom of the croissant can get fairly soggy quickly. I loved how fluffy and soft the egg was. + HOJICHA Banana Oat Milk Latte ($6.50) (5/5): Creamy and toasty!! The banana flavor really stood out which I enjoyed. I also tried the matcha version of this, but ended up preferring the hojicha much more. There's free wifi here! You can find it near the napkins/utensil area. I definitely want to come back to try their popcorn chicken. Come early if you want to stay, or opt for the takeout line which is much shorter!

Yelp
I've visited a few times since opening and Sohn is such a vibe! I've only gotten take out and it's fairly quick. I've tried the matcha cream top and the espresso cream top. I think the matcha is one of the best I've tried in the city. Very creamy and matcha forward. The espresso is also pretty strong and the cream top balances well. I've also tried the breakfast sandwich. The croissant is a little soft and the jam is sweet. Definitely reminiscent of how everything you think should be savory in Seoul ends up being sweet :)

Yelp
Goodbye Daily Driver, hello Sohn! On a Friday morning around 11am, the line moved very quickly. Apparently, this is not normal and lines usually move slowly because people camp out at tables working. Do not mix up the takeout and dine-in lines--they are separate and different! I love the high, soaring ceiling. There are multiple high-top tables and nooks that offer more privacy than the bar and some larger tables. There's so much seating--you may see someone you know! It's a huge space. There's a few Lyft bike docks in the area, a bike rack or two outside, and some popular Muni lines nearby. The matcha was delicious. Oat milk was not extra? It was greener than most matcha drinks I have. The breakfast sandwich was delicious. It was thick and juicy from the moist steamed egg. The sesame croissant bun was fresh. The ham was warm, and all the flavors came together, complex. Service was wonderful. My dining partner lives in the area and comes here often. He knew a lot of the employees by name and they knew his! Everyone was very kind. Bathrooms were clean and aesthetic, too. Will be back to try more food or just for matcha!

Yelp
Keep in mind there are two lines - one for dine in and one for take out. We visited on a Saturday morning and waited 15 minutes in line and another 15 minutes for our drinks. The owner greeted us while we were waiting and apologized for the wait time and checked in on our drinks for us which was very kind. We got the matcha with cream top and the banana oat milk matcha latte. Definitely get the latter! It was SO good - the banana flavour was perfect, not too sweet and elevated the matcha! Definitely an amazing addition to the Dogpatch neighborhood. Looking forward to trying their food next!

Yelp
I have to say: the food here is fantastic. I ordered the popcorn chicken to share and got the spicy cold noodle salad for myself. The popcorn chicken was seasoned perfectly, and I loved the texture of the fried rice cakes. The noodle salad was refreshing and perfect for a warm SF day. I didn't get to try any drinks, but my friends thought the ones they got were good. I would give this place five stars if it weren't for the fact that it's very difficult to get dine-in seats. The first time I visited this place, my group ended up leaving as the dine-in line had not moved for twenty minutes. People generally camp out here with their laptops and linger for a long time. I agree with other reviews that a time-limit would be very much appreciated!
google avatar

Joanne G.

Yelp
The best part about this place is the ambience and vibe! I really appreciate how much thought went into the decor, furniture, and spacing! Food was overall good but I do have some comments. I thought the sohn breakfast sandwich was really flavorful, and I liked the innovative use of steamed eggs! However, the croissant bun was a little cold and it seemed like the sandwich had probably been sitting out. Also ordered the cold noodles and popcorn chicken, which were pretty good. Popcorn chicken would benefit from a dip/aioli sauce. Decided to order the sausage croissant on the way out, and the flavors were not bad but the bun came out completely cold! I think just a few small touches could make the food much better. Drinks were good! And I think I would be most likely to return here for the drinks. A solid hojicha latte and matcha latte. I think the space is great for working, but perhaps it would be better to create designated spaces for working and have some time limits at least on the weekend, because we waited 45 minutes for a table and when we left at noon the line on a Saturday was even longer. We saw there were several tables where people had laptops camping out.

Yelp
Service, vibes, and food? 10/10. Sōhn is exactly what's been missing in San Francisco's cafe scene. Nothing else really compares and once you go, you'll definitely be back. I recommend trying everything, it's rare to find a spot where every dish hits the mark.
google avatar

Yelp
Love the space! Great place to doodle, work or people watch. We waited about half an hour in line on a weekend. The food is also phenomenal. We liked everything, especially the savory dishes. My favorite was their popcorn chicken, which came with fried rice cakes seasoned with seaweed. Never had this kind of popcorn chicken and I really loved the rice cake pairing! While the food seems to be the star of the show, I wish their melona matcha latte had a stronger melon flavor. Will definitely be back here to eat and enjoy a good book in the future!
google avatar

Yelp
Come early or brave the line(s)! There's two lines here on the left side is to get in and on the right is take out. We arrived early to get a decent spot in line and within 5 minutes it stretched the block; it's poppin Inside feels straight out of interior design tok, which is easy on the eyes for an otherwise busy place. Grabbing a seat up top seems to be the move though at the bar is equally cool. When you're in here prepare to be mogged, no matter how you coming in someone's fit is going to eliminate you so let's focus on the food and drinks Banana latte has a great hit of banana, a little sweet/syrupy but nothing to write this off. The melon latte was nice too though it's flavour was a very muted (compared to a melona ice cream) I'd say the breakfast sandwich is a must have! BUT be warned, I would share this as it does get pretty heavy with the bacon inside and the steamed egg juices. Otherwise, fantastic mouth feel and flavours Popcorn chicken also a banger, tender pieces contrasted with crispy rice cakes (with a strong seaweed taste), this is super savoury and I can see it destroy a hang over. The sausage pastry we got was not too great, a bit too dense and ambiguous flavour, probably also got drowned out by the other dishes we ate Overall great vibe, spectacular spot to hang out with your homies. It's too busy and noisy for me to imagine studying here but people do, if it were me I'd just be trying to aura max

Yelp
Came here with a friend to try it out on a Saturday since the line finally seemed to be a little shorter! The ambiance is the best part! I love the combination of lounge areas and dining areas as well as places to work! There's a small area in the first floor where there are some Korean-inspired items being sold. The service was great as well. The food we ordered was served very quickly! I got the melona soda, which was so good and fresh! I loved it! I also got the kimchi fried rice, and my friend got the popcorn chicken, which comes with fried rice cakes. I would say the food was overall good but a bit too salty for me. I would come back for the drinks and the ambiance though! It seems like a nice cozy place to work from!

Yelp
I came across the cafe while I was in the area and my experience was great! I came around weekday afternoon, so street parking was pretty easy. There was a bit if a line to dine in, and it could take a while since a lot of people like to utilize the space to study. The cafe inside was actually really spacious with bar seating in the middle and a second floor containing a lot of tables and chairs. The ambiance and space definitely makes it a great space to study or hangout since there's outlets and wifi available. The workers are also really nice and attentive, such as making sure you have good seating and that you were able to receive your order on time. For foods, I got the Galbi Patty Melt ($16) and the Gochujang Caramel Cookie ($4). The Galbi Patty Melt was very hearty and paired well with the light, airy croissant bun. It was definitely filling and so I even had leftovers to bring back! The Gochujang Caramel Cookie was my highlight of the cafe! I think that the very subtle hint of spiciness made the caramely flavor taste all the more better. For drinks, I got the Banana Oat Milk Matcha Latte ($7) and the Sohn Matcha Signature Cream Top ($7). I wasn't a big fan of the banana oat since I felt like the banana puree overpowered the matcha flavor too much and made it too sweet. However, I really liked the signature cream top drink! If I remember correctly, you unfortunately can't substitute for oat milk, but I still really liked how earthy their matcha tasted. I do wish that the cream top would be a little thicker, but aside from that, this drink was really good! I definitely hope to stop by again to get some work done and to try their seasonal drinks and other food items!

Yelp
Arrived at 9:45AM to line up, was able to snag a table. Order items and checkout through QR code. Although the service was a bit slow, it will go by quick if you are chatting with peers or just doing some work. Order the egg sandwich, hojicha and matcha. The breakfast sandwich ($14) was super tasty, had a soft steam egg between the layers of sesame croissant. The hojicha latte ($7) was okay, so what's watery and needs some sugar as well. The matcha drinks ($7) were tastier, good taste of aromatic tea. The cookie was quite delicious, not too sweet and had a great crunchy a lovely cafe to hangout and to study. A great layout and usage of first floor and second floor

Yelp
Stopped by Sohn in the Dogpatch around noon on a Wednesday and was surprised to see a line. Ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes to get seated, so definitely expect a bit of a wait during peak hours. The space is really nice, big, open, and airy with a modern and cute aesthetic. They have an upstairs too, but I didn't get a chance to check it out. We were seated at the counter, which was comfortable, but just a heads up: there are no outlets there if you're planning to bring a laptop and get some work done. That said, they do have free WiFi, which is a plus. Bonus points for having hooks under the counter to hang your bag, super convenient! You order everything through a QR code at your table, and service was smooth and easy. We tried the matcha banana oat latte and the hojicha banana milk latte, both were really good. The Galbi Patty Melt was also a standout, super flavorful and satisfying. Overall, a great spot with solid food, great drinks, and a stylish atmosphere. I would definitely come back to try out more drinks and the rest of the menu.

Yelp
Great experience at Sohn on a Thursday morning. Parking is tricky and it took us about 15 min to find a metered spot a block away, but I think the struggle is worth the visit! We were lucky enough to get a seat but it was in a lounge area with couches - this wasn't ideal for working or eating but we managed with a small side table. I ordered the Spicy Cold Noodle Salad and Banana Oat Milk Hojicha Latte. I LOVED the cold noodles - they were perfectly spicy, sweet, and salty. I really enjoyed the greens and how balanced the dish was. 5/5 The Banana Oat Milk Hojicha had a delicious natural banana flavor and decent nuttiness from the Hojicha. It was also perfectly sweet for me. I was really impressed with the drinks! 5/5 Overall, I would love to come back but I know that I need to be prepared for parking.

Yelp
This cafe has been on my saved list to visit ever since it opened, and I finally got to stop by for a quick drink. First of all, if it's a Korean cafe, you just know it's going to be good. The drinks and food are always 100% satisfying. Today I went just to grab a drink, and OMG --the Hojicha with their signature cream was amazing. So perfectly sweetened. The interior made me feel like I was in Korea. It's so cozy and beautiful. I can't wait to bring my laptop next time and get some work done here. The staff are super friendly, the music isn't too loud, and the space is open and relaxing. I honestly love everything about this place. Plus, there's a cute little shop to check out on the right when you enter. Definitely support this small business!

Yelp
5 stars for the aesthetics and vibes 4 stars for food and drink - Popcorn chicken was solid but the star of that show was the fried rice cakes! Think we prefer the crispier more flavorful popcorn chicken from Shihlin. - Breakfast sandwich was too sweet for both of us from the sweet onion bacon jam, but probably a great treat for most! Would opt for the galbi patty melt personally next time. Have to eat asap before the delish sesame croissant gets soggy which ours kinda did - see below. - Banana oat hojicha was worth a try - not my jam but pretty and still tasty, quite a small cup after the ice 3 stars for the wait - we couldn't get a table so opted for takeout. Luckily we were able to order pretty quickly before a line formed, but the wait for our takeout was still over 15 mins, with our food (fried and hot croissant) ready and steaming a bit while we waited for our drink. Would definitely return and try to get a seat inside, pretend we found ourselves in a kdrama. Try the galbi melt or the noodles.

Yelp
Banana matcha was excellent - tasted fresh and not artificial. Loved the fried popcorn chicken and rice cakes with the seaweed? seasoning. Perfectly crispy and seasoned well. Need to come back to try their other drinks and food. Came on a Sunday morning and it was busyyy! Luckily it was just me so I didn't need to wait long to be sat, but if you're coming with a group be prepared to wait. There is 2 lines: one to dine in and one to take out. Takeout line is super short. Dine in line is long so recommend coming when it opens if you want to be sat right away.
google avatar

Helen C.

Yelp
First thing to know is that there is a takeout line (usually a lot shorter) and a sit down line! I tried the signature hojicha cream latte, the cappuccino, the sausage croissant and their one cookie selection . The cookie at $3.50 is a standout winner!!! The drinks do take a while even for takeout and with so many other coffee choices within a block, it isn't my favorite. However the cookie is THE best cookie I've had in my whole life! The interior is quite nice and spacious but be prepared to wait for a seat! One of these days hopefully when the line is a bit shorter and until then, I'll have to resist the cookie temptation!
google avatar

Qinnan L.

Yelp
Cute new cafe but not worth the hype and ridiculously long wait We came on a Sunday and waited more than 30 minutes for a table. Ended up on a communal sofa that was completely self service. I ordered the spicy cold noodle salad which was some leaves, noodles, and few pieces of kimchi - very disappointing. The soho breakfast sandwich was really good though - hearty with unique fusion flavors

Yelp
SŌHN (손) means hand in Korean, and there were definitely a lot of hands here! I've been wanting to try this new Korean-inspired cafe in the Dogpatch, but the limited hours have made it hard. Finally had the chance to stop by before closing time, and there was still a line out the door for takeout. There were 2 lines: 1 for dining in and 1 for takeout. An employee came out every so often to take orders from people waiting in line. After seeing previous pictures of the menu, it looks like they've reduced their offerings. I wanted to try their Butter Mandu, but it's no longer on the menu. Since it was seasonal, I ordered the Melona Matcha Latte ($7.00 + tax). +One of the most unique matcha lattes I've tried, the rich matcha worked harmoniously with the refreshing melon. Not too sweet either! -When I was ordering outside, I asked the employee if I could have no ice and she said "yes". However, when I went to pick up my order the barista said that "it needs to have some ice". *Verdict: Unique drinks with a wait and so-so service. From waiting in line to order to receiving my drink, it took ~30 minutes. It didn't seem like they put out orders based on when you ordered because I noticed that some people who ordered later received their items faster and some people received parts of their order at different times. In addition, there was an employee offering samples of rice cakes to dine-in customers and asking for feedback but she ignored customers who were waiting for takeout.
google avatar

Caly T.

Yelp
Lovely interior, appreciated the separate line for dine-in vs takeout. Maum store in the corner had nicely curated home goods! - banana oat hojicha: the banana flavor was nice and strong, a thick consistency. Hojicha flavor came through still; would recommend for banana lovers! - sausage pepper croissant: the croissant itself was a bit disappointing, not much dimension. Filling was good!

Yelp
Came here today with my friend & daughter for lunch. Weekends are packed! Definitely recommend going on a weekday I feel like at these popular spots so you don't have to wait in long lines. We got there around 11:15 and there was quite a bit of wait. *Just to note for those with small kids, they don't have high chairs* We got seats at the lounge chairs which was nice. You scan the QR code and pay everything online which is super convenient. No need to worry about Venmo-ing each other! What we ordered: Hojicha banana oat latte: Sweet & delicious! You can definitely taste the banana in the latte. Popcorn Chicken: Fried rice cakes & chicken was flavorful. The seaweed furikake was yummy. Galbi Patty Melt: The Korean beef and kimchi slaw was delicious! It was sweet and savory. I was pretty hungry and finished it so fast lol. Mayak Gyerian Rice: I mainly ordered this for my daughter since they didn't have the porridge on the menu unfortunately but I thought it was okay. The dressing was a bit too sweet and it was drenched in the rice. I wish they served the sauce on the side so that I can control how much sauce to pour in. Overall food was good, it definitely is on the expensive side but delicious so I would come back again.

Yelp
This new cafe is definitely one of the best matchas I've had in SF and I can't wait for my next visit! We arrived at 12:40pm on a Saturday and saw a line outside. Five minutes later, an employee informed us that there are separate lines for dine-in and takeout. We opted for the takeout line, which shortened our visit to 15 minutes compared to the hour wait for dine-in. When we got to the front of the takeout line, an employee took our order, then informed us that we could wait inside for our order to be called. The interior is very spacious. Though, I'm not sure if you can sit anywhere if you didn't order in. Our drinks came out within 5 minutes of ordering, and the popcorn chicken came out a few minutes later. The banana matcha had a real and fresh banana flavor, and the matcha flavor still cane through strong. The matcha einspanner was nicely sweetened, although I think the cream diluted the matcha taste slightly. The popcorn chicken was piping hot, juicy, and we enjoyed the addition of rice cakes. We enjoyed everything and will definitely come back.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this viral cafe for a while and my experience was good overall. I loooooved the food but let's cut to the chase. Here are my food and drink ratings: yuja perilla espresso tonic, 4/10 as is, 5/10 after some sweetener - an espresso tonic is one of my new baselines to judge the quality of drinks at a coffee spot. unfortunately this drink did not blow me out of the water but i wouldn't mind ordering this here again because it was much better than the hojicha. hojicha latte, 1/10 - so watered down, not even sweetener made it better for me. my bf rated it a 4/10. spicy korean noodle salad, 9/10 - beautifully plated, dif texture from greens and other ingredients galbi sandwich, 8/10 - bf gave 8.8, i didn't like how the sesame seeds fell off, so messy to eat but delicious popcorn chicken, 7/10 - delicious but a little too salty, bf gave 7.5 and we think the seaweed seasoning is amazing The service is great and the interior is absolutely stunning. I think this is an awesome spot to hang out with friends or go on a brunch date. The food really made up for the horrible drinks. This review is from my visit a week or two ago, so their drinks may have improved since then. I've had many friends visit again who have told me some other drinks are great, so I'm hoping to come back soon and give the drinks another try.

Yelp
Sohn has great ambiance and service!!! The inside of the cafe is large and beautiful and lots of seating. Has the right hustle and bustle of a cafe without being too loud or overwhelming. Wifi was reliable and I loved getting work done here with my friend. I would recommend arriving a little before they open so you don't have to wait in line, since this place was very busy on a Sunday. I enjoyed the banana oat milk matcha, and hope they can add some more fun and innovative cafe drink options to their menu!

Yelp
Rare third space in SF with great drinks and food!! I appreciated that there were 2 separate lines for dine in and take out. Went there on a Saturday afternoon and waited for about 20 mins in the dine in line. Very well organized, and you're only let in when a table is available, then you order from the QR code. Banana oat milk hojicha (9/10) - loved how the creaminess of the banana puree paired with the toasted hojicha! I've been to other cafes where the banana just tasted artificial, but definitely not the case here. Popcorn chicken (9/10) - this was a great snack and I especially liked the fried rice cake! The chicken and rice cake did have a slightly sweet aftertaste. I think Sohn should consider adding a side of kimchi aioli (?) or some other sauce that adds some acidity. Cold noodles (7.5/10) - quite a refreshing dish. Liked the kimchi

Yelp
When you arrive, they have a take out and dine-in line. We chose the take out line and waited over 30 minutes to place our order on a Sunday around 1PM. Depending if you order food or not, the drinks were ready in 10 minutes. The food took around 15-20 minutes. The food is also on the pricer range. We ordered: - Hojicha Sohn signature crème top (you couldn't taste any Hojicha. It lacked the tea flavor and was mostly milk). Ranking - 2/5 - Matcha Banana Oat Milk Latte (this was really sweet. You cannot adjust the sweetness either. You can taste the banana tho). Ranking - 3.5/5 - Popcorn chicken with rice cake and seaweed powder on top. Flavor wise 5/5. But $10 for around 6 pieces of popcorn chicken was pricy! - GALBI PATTY MELT (a croissant burger with kimchi and cheese). Ranking 4.5/5. Overall, cute cafe to check out in the dog patch area. I prefer their food more than their drinks.

Yelp
this place is sooo hyped it's one of those clean minimalist aesthetic korean spots LOL but actually pretty good!! it looked pretty busy for both dine in and takeout but highly recommend sitting inside bc the interior is so relaxing and pretty. 2 stories of seating with gorgeous natural light inside! you wait outside to be seated, then u order at the table on a qr code and the food/drinks came really fast as for the actual food/drink, we wanted to try some food and the drinks. i got an iced oat milk matcha and my friend had the banana oat milk matcha. i thought it was pretty strong and not too sweet at all - reminds me of my favorite matcha lattes in LA. high quality and flavorful, not swampy or overly milky! the banana oat milk was not too sweet either with a nice banana flavor, but more sweet than the plain latte. we also tried the popcorn chicken which comes w rice cakes and is topped with this unique savory seaweed seasoning. very crispy and delicious! i think my friend said the sandwich was yum as well - the croissant looked super tender & flaky so definitely a good sign :) overall would recommend for the matcha latte for sure! it's on the pricey side, which is not surprising given the overall vibes of the place, but so is every trendy cafe in sf. food is good and ambiance is nice but i'd come here again just for the matcha!

Yelp
It's a beautiful interior with fun fusion pastries and food. The galbi patty melt was especially good. Juicy and full of flavor, with a sesame seed bun The sausage pastry came out cold. I feel like it could have been more delicious heated. It seemed like a nice quality casing, but was perhaps a weird texture in the bread. I was very disappointed to have my espresso served in a full sized paper cup. This should not be allowed :( Note that all drinks are served in to-go cups (maybe this will change in the future?) Banana milk: authentically like Korean banana milk. If you're here for the nostalgia, then delicious. Though debatable if it's otherwise universally delicious. Lining up to get in spans down the street in either direction. Like a day club in the dog patch. Service was good, but there's limited interaction: you seat yourself and order via QR code. Perhaps it was extra slow since they haven't been open long, but it took about 35 minutes to get food and drinks

Yelp
I loved the banana cream latte from Sohn! The matcha was just okay to me, but I would definitely go back for the coffee. As for food, I ordered the popcorn chicken with rice cakes that were delicious! Perfect amount of crunchiness and chewiness in a snack. The employees were all very kind and the service was quick on a random Thursday afternoon. Although, all the seats were packed indoors with people working and hanging out with friends. If you don't plan on eating inside, I would recommend the takeout line to get in n out fast. Otherwise, the only con was parking but that's SF for ya :)

Yelp
The aesthetics of this place... chef's kiss. The take on bringing Korean cafe's to SF is great, and especially in Dogpatch. I stopped by here for a bite as it's next to my climbing gym. Unfortunately they were out of matcha, so I got a Sohn Signature Cold foam Hojicha latte. They get their Hojicha and matcha from kettl so I already knew it was gonna be good. I forgot to ask for it sweetened, but none the less 8/10 for me. I also ordered the breakfast sandwich and damn it was good. It gave that sweet savory taste. The croissant was crunchy, flakey, and soft. The steamed egg was pretty big! It was soft and fluffy, made very well bc by itself it was already seasoned well. The sweet onion bacon name inside was almost like a candied bacon, kind of reminiscent of the millionaire bacon. I didn't get to eat inside bc I didn't want to wait to dine in, but it looks like a great place to get work done or hang out! Paid street parking or free parking if you can find down the end of the street.

Yelp
Came here on a weekend with my sister. We waited about 40min for a seat (got there around 10:30am). They passed out some seaweed flavored Chex mix (?) as we were in line. This place is 2 floors and super spacious! They have some spots that are sofas & coffee tables instead of a regular dining table & chair, those spots were so cute. This is what we ordered - Matcha Latte $6 - This was perfect!!! They are using actual matcha powder which is amazing, I've had matcha lattes that taste artificial but this place does not do that. Will definitely come back for this. - Banana Oat Milk Latte $7 - not sure how this tasted, my sister ordered it. - Sohn Breakfast Sandwich $14 - This comes with eggs, bacon onion jam, and cheese. Love the sesame croissant, super flaky and buttery. I felt the jam was to sweet for my taste, I might ask for none of it or less of it next time. - Galbi Patty Melt $16 - This comes with a galbi patty, cheese, and kimchi slaw. The patty was so meaty and so flavorful! Tasted so good with the sesame crossiant. I'm not a huge fan of carrots and I thought there was to many in the slaw. Overall, we had a wonderful experience! We spent about 1-1.5 hours here, eating and chatting and taking pictures of each other ~ When we left , it was around 12:30pm and there was little to no line. So I guess I'd recommend to go around 12!

Yelp
Skip matcha, I was aware of this but wanted to try! It's premade not whisked in person. The sausage croissant was great! Really want to come back and get the galbi melt. It's a massive croissant stuffed with beef, seems like a perfect hefty brunch item to have

Yelp
San Francisco, Dogpatch. August 2025. San Francisco doesn't have any defined areas for Korean-Americans, like a Japantown or Chinatown. So an area ripe for industrial gentrification, like Dogpatch, is both an unlikely place and sensible choice for a place like SOHN. You will read, "Many Hands, One Table", or " Many Hands, Made For All". Sohn is Korean for "hand". SOHN is intended as a gathering place for Korean-American artists and makers. It also is a buzzy Korean American inspired cafe. The industrial interior has been turned into a two level cafe and open store by Cathie Hong. There is comfy living room seating, industrial counter space around a barista area, and lots of tables on three sides of the second floor landing. The cafe is led by Deuki Hong, a CIA graduate who has worked both white linen table restaurants and creative kitchens. The drinks are fun and visually neat. The bakery side turns out quality items. But it is the kitchen that shines. Hong gets to run his own thing, where he can celebrate being Korean-American. Literally, he is the sohn maht, "taste of the hand", who puts care and creativity into his food. You've had a smash burger that drips all over your hands? Try the variation of a west coast patty melt. Take a tteokgalbi patty with cheese, topped with a tangy spicy kimchi coleslaw, then drop it between a flakey sesame studded square croissant. I hate, hate, hate, messy burgers dripping with sauces that take six napkins to eat - but I will eat this one anytime. Popcorn Chicken? Everyone has a variation of Korean Fried Chicken. This boneless crispy crunchy variety is a take on dakgangjeong. Throw in some pillowy fried balls of tteok. Dust everything with powdered Parae - the same stuff you get in those packs of seasoned Korean laver or gimbap. I would order the parae dusted tteok balls as a drink anju anytime - they are great. I have to go back. This is the kind of proud Korean influenced food I would only expect to find in the Arts District of Los Angeles. So glad to see a place like this in San Francisco. I have to go back.

Yelp
I absolutely love the space!! Love that it's multi purpose with seating for working, catching up with friends, relaxing, etc. the aesthetic inside is so beautiful and they have 2 stories too. I love that they feature merch from Korean-American vendors as well that you can purchase! I appreciated that the line was outside which makes it feel less crowded and keeps it feeling open and spacious inside. Arrived with a fairly long line on a Friday morning but it moved quickly. Food/Drinks: - Popcorn chicken - really unique with mochi crunchy on the edges and seaweed seasoning on top. That was a highlight! - Sohn breakfast sandwich - on the sweeter side but tasty! I shared half with my husband which was perfect - because of the sweetness, I personally don't think I'd be able to eat a full sandwich myself - Gochujang caramel cookie - had a kick to it and was a bit more savory! Worth trying and I liked it though it might not be everyone's taste - Hojicha banana oat milk latte - my husband ordered this and to be honest, I thought it had an alcohol/ethanol-like taste to it. I didn't like it at all, it might have been overripe bananas that were used - Matcha cream top - I was hoping for a bit more of the matcha flavor to come through but mine tasted on the milkier side Overall I think the food is worth trying, especially the popcorn chicken. I wouldn't recommend the drinks we got but I absolutely love the space and would go back there for that in itself!

Yelp
Sohn is a gorgeous new Korean cafe in Dogpatch. I was excited to come here to try the creative drinks and brunch dishes and grabbed a couple of friends to stop by on a Saturday morning. We arrived right before opening and lined up in the dine-in queue (there is a separate line for to-go orders). We were able to get a table in the first batch for seating. Order is super easy via QR code and we each got a latte and the breakfast sandwich which we agreed looked like the best item on the menu! I got the banana oat latte which was yummy but a bit thick from the banana milk. It did taste very fresh though but the thickness of the latte once I mixed it was a bit odd. I would come here just for the breakfast sandwich again! Between the croissant bun, sweet bacon jam, chinese sausage, and steamed egg, everything was delicious and the flavors together were absolutely divine. I'll definitely have to be back to try more of their food items! So excited to have this spot with ample tables and seating in the neighborhood. Service was a bit slow but very friendly and there are jugs of water and utensils for self-serve.

Yelp
Sohn is everything I want from a cafe - It's a huge, beautiful, yet comfortable space with fun, creamy coffee, matcha, and hojicha. The service is quick and super friendly. I feel like I could study or work here, meet up with a friend, or just grab a quick bite, and it would be perfect every time. Really strong soft opening! I'm excited to see how they expand their hours, menu, and shop. I'm already a big fan!

Yelp
Wow y'all thought this place was over hyped but not gonna lie I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the vibes. "Service" in a traditional sense is more like what you'd expect from a coffee shop where you order at a cashier or through a QR code and your item is announced for you to pick up if you order to go or brought to you if you dine in. The interior is so nice and clean, the vibe reminds me of a modern cafe in Korea. Will definitely be back! ...hopefully when there's less people and a shorter wait haha.

Yelp
I was really excited to see Sohn open as it is a very spacious and aesthetic cafe. My friend and I came on a Friday afternoon to grab lunch and there was a 30 minute wait. After going inside, we realize that there was a lot of seats/tables in the building, but a lot of people stay to do work which is why the lines might be a bit longer. To us, the time in line flew by. We ordered the hojicha latte, matcha latte with cream top, the patty melt, gochujang caramel cookie, popcorn chicken, and the mayak gyeran rice. Drinks: We tried our friends banana matcha latte and the banana milk tasted a bit too artificial for us which is why we ended up going with the original drinks. I really liked my hojicha latte and thought the matcha my friend got was a bit too sweet. The cream top didn't taste like a regular cream top either. Food: The popcorn chicken and the mayak gyeran rice were good options. The patty melt is a bit heavy/messy to eat. It tastes good but you might feel a bit heavy after since it's sandwiched between 2 croissants. As for the cookie, it tasted like a snickerdoodle cookie. No hints of gochujang which was a bit disappointing. Overall, if I were in the area, I would come back again to work/catch up with friends but none of the food or drinks left me craving it again.

Yelp
Always very happy to see new cafes opening up in the city. Came here on a saturday morning and by 10-15 min before opening, there was already a pretty long line. they do two separate lines for dine in and takeout though, so would recommend doing takeout if you want a shorter wait. Super cozy and welcoming interior: high ceilings, huge coffee bar on the first floor plus a variety of table seating and couches scattered across both floors. It seems like a lot of people come here to work. My friends and I ordered the following: - iced matcha latte w cream top: classic matcha drink, nothing too fancy. the cream top definitely added a sweetness and it was refreshing. - popcorn chicken: this was really good. the chicken had a slight crisp on the outside but was very flavorful and juicy on the inside. the rice cakes were a great accompaniment and we really liked the seaweed seasoning on top. Staff came w our orders within 10 min. Wait times are a little unpredictable now so will definitely be back for work sessions once it's cooled down a bit.

Yelp
What's the newest craze in SF? A must-try cafe shaking up SF's food scene. Parking (3.5/5): Challenging on main street but may have better luck a few blocks out Ambiance (5/5): Absolutely fell in love with the space. It was modernized and chic. Perfect for a date or hanging out. Service (N/A): We got the option to order for takeout since it was going to be a 45+ min wait. Brief interactions with staff were friendly and helpful Food (5/5): - Banana Oat Milk Hojicha Latte: Banana flavor was really strong but blended well with the hojicha - Matcha Signature Cream Top: Cream top was cheesy--unexpected, but interesting - Popcorn Chicken: Loved the combination of textures with the popcorn chicken and fried rice cakes--savory and addicting - Mayak Gyeran Rice Bowl: Absolutely loved the Mayak Gyeran Rice with the soft-boiled egg, savory rice, sweet marinated mushrooms, and refreshing herbs. - Sohn Breakfast Sandwich: featured a delightful Korean steamed egg (Gyeran Jjim), which was soft yet flavorful. The savory ham and cheese balanced out the whole sandwich. - Galbi Patty Melt: Had a well-cooked, well-marinated beef patty paired with crunchy kimchi--really good. - Eric's Gochujang Caramel Cookie: Tried Eric's Gochujang Caramel Cookie, which was slightly on the sweeter side but had a nice hint of gochujang tanginess. I loved the food and will definitely be back especially for that Mayak Gyeran Rice Bowl :)

Yelp
I'm petty AF... I'll give you the Gen Z stare if you've overstayed your welcome. And, that's why I can't work in the industry...I wouldn't last a day. Over the weekend, there was a ridic long line at SŌHN so I returned on a weekday after an appt. Line wasn't long (~15 people) but it was slow moving. It took nearly an hour to get to the front. And, it would have taken longer had people not left the line. There seems to be a very slow table turnover because peeps are laptop camping and there doesn't seem to be any time restrictions for the free WiFi. BUT, the staff is hustling! I was able to get my order within 10 minutes so props to them. Been following Chef Hong for years, from his pop-up at Boba Guys, Sunday at the Museum, and Sunday Bird...now he's taken over Daily Driver and has transformed it into a gorgeous two-story Korean-American Cafe. T H I N G S T O K N O W - One line for takeout and dine-in (no online orders at this time). - For dine-in, once staff lets you in, it's open seating and ordering is done via QR code. They'll deliver your order to you. - Self-serve water. Bus your own table once you're done. - Street parking is hella hard. Carpool, take muni, or a ride share otherwise, you'll be circling and circling. M E N U Small concise menu of Korean-American breakfast and lunch fare. Pastries from Neighbor Bakehouse (they have a croissant collab w/ LA's Seoul Sausage). Coffee and tea (Kettl) available. Everything is under $16 (including their galbi patty melt). No SF mandate fees. D R I N K * Matcha w/ oat milk, SŌHN signature cream top ($7): https://tinyurl.com/bpakhcd6 - Requested less sweet - No charge for oat milk SŌHN's take on an einspänner, the matcha latte had a nice grassy, earthy flavor with a deliciously rich and creamy whipped topping. F O O D * Butter Mandu: Beef filling, cabbage, side of kimchi (3 pc - $8): https://tinyurl.com/4d7jyu7e Careful, it squirts! My fav item, the dumping was savory and juicy with rich beefy filling and a chewy wrapper. So juicy, it squirted into TT's face. Served with an acidic, mildly spicy kimchi. No need for a dipping sauce. * Spicy Cold Noodle Salad: Buckwheat noodles, gochujang, cucumber, Asian pear, Korean herbs ($13): https://tinyurl.com/2c82w2bt The flavors of the bibim naengmyeon were on point - spicy, tangy, and sweet with a freshness from the cucumber and herbs. The noodles could have been colder and chewier tho. * Mushroom Jook: Savory Korean rice porridge w/ dashi, scallions, fried garlic ($13): https://tinyurl.com/zb9rv8nh A hug in a bowl, the rice was nicely broken down creating a satisfying creamy texture. The soy seasoning and mushrooms added earthy umami flavor. During the soft opening, you had the option to add chicken. Hope they consider bringing that option back. * Eric's Gochuchang Caramel Cookie ($4): https://tinyurl.com/mwnna6fb Inspired by Eric Kim (NYT)'s recipe, the cookie is perfectly chewy with crispy, buttery edges. The caramel and gochujang duo creates swirls of savory sweet umami but the heat could have been kicked up a notch or two. S E R V I C E Polite and fast, once seated. A M B I A N C E Hip industrial community space spanning two levels and an open kitchen. Mix of high tops, regular tables, chef's counter, and lounge areas. Overall, SŌHN is a welcome addition to the city serving solid, flavorful Korean-American fare that's easy on the wallet. Hope peeps are mindful about staying for an extended amount of time (unless they're making sufficient purchases) so everyone can get a chance to visit SŌHN.

Yelp
Newly opened café and social space in Dogpatch. Just grand opened over the weekend. Today was their first weekday service. Highly recommend arriving at opening. I arrived right at 10am and there were already about 20 people in line ahead of me. Was able to get in on the first wave, but noticed that a line out of the door slowly formed once all of the seats were taken. Came by to enjoy some bites and drinks while working. Wifi is available and posted on the main counter. QR codes are placed on the tables so you can order and pay digitally and your order will be brought to you. - popcorn chicken - juicy pieces of chicken that come with rice cakes and a seaweed flavor. Pieces of chicken were very flavorful and I really liked the seaweed seasoning that was all over the dish. After I finished this dish, I noticed it had been about an hour and a half or so and I was still deep in work. The line was still going strong and I didn't want to be a laptop camper so I ordered some more items that I enjoyed for an additional hour and a half. - eric's gochujang caramel cookie - might be one of the best cookies I've recently had. Reminiscent of a snickerdoodle but a bit more savory. Very thing, yet big and chewy. - banana oat milk matcha - I love banana flavor so this was definitely a hit for me. Nicely layered with the matcha resting on top a creamy white base. Banana flavor is strong and legit so definitely for those that enjoy bananas. Next time I will try with hojicha. The space itself is large with both a ground floor and second floor. Second floor overlooks the ground floor for some cool views. Upbeat music sets the vibe.

Yelp
Love the interior design and aesthetic of this cafe! It's such a great spot to meet up with friends for coffee/ brunch or just to work/study! They offer free wifi and tons of seating! I wish the drinks were a bit stronger as I felt like the two times I've gotten a drink (one coffee, was bland/ watered down) and (two matcha latte, didn't taste much matcha only oat milk). The dine in service was nice if you are getting a meal but also felt like it was a bit much for just getting a coffee and wanting to do work. Its super close to the muni station and there's some street parking which is nice! Highly recommend if you are looking for just a nice study/ work spot.

Yelp
This is the best cafe I've been to in SF, and compares to the best in K-town LA. We had the banana oat milk latte and melona latte and both were amazing! Texture of banana milk was very unique and creamy and this was the first melona I've had. The cafe was also very beautiful and comfortable to work in (has wifi and a lot of cafes don't), and they had someone outside to seat you too. Bonus the barista was awesome and gave us free cookies and a melona latte ~
