To call this an average airport restaurant is being generous, and being kind. But the atmosphere, lighting and space for this terminal is hard to beat. The food is overpriced slop, and the bartenders alternate between bored and annoyed with you. But eventually, you get your food, which isn't horrible. And you get your drink, which may not even be the right one, but you get it. When I came here for breakfast, the waitress did her best to accommodate. Either way, you have a comfy, central spot in the terminal to chill out. The lighting, layout, general accessibility and openness are well done.

Chicken is raw inside the chicken sandwich. After re-making, the chicken is severed raw again. There was no apologies from the kitchen at all, bad experience. Other food options are at least cooked but tasted mid, and pretty expensive for its portion size.

$18 for a to go salad. DO NOT BUY! It’s ridiculous, they need to lower price. It’s not ethical. It’s a ripoff. Hopefully they’ll be gone with new options been added at JFK’s terminal 8. They’ve been there for ever and haven’t stepped up their game.

Google
We ordered a three cheese omelette and a type of breakfast sandwich, which were great. Love the potatoes.

Google
Airport restaurant prices are always high but theirs were really high. They asked me how I wanted my burger cooked and I said medium and it came out well done. The fries were good but not exceptional. For a cheeseburger fries and a coke it was $30 before tax and tip. The waitress was pleasant and did a good job. But with the burger overcooked and the food just average I will not be coming back here at these very high prices

Google
Horrible service. Waitress was so rude when I was sitting down, walked off as I ordered, and as I was eating a saw TWO hairs. The waitress told me “there are no hairs, you have to pay for the food”. As if I was lying when you can SEE there are two hairs. She then said “Are you done? I have other tables to attend to” and walked off. Did not receive even a partial refund .

Google
I went there during the dinner time. Service is ok. Nothing special, but I think those people are overworked. Quality: I ordered Cheddar Burger which costed me around 30 USD. 1) Food came very cold 2) The level of meat temperature was NOT mentioned upon the order. I think this pricing range should always ask for the customers preference. 3) It took around 20 minutes. It is airport, so meals like this should NOT take this long so as to payment process took longer.

Stopped in today and half of the space is closed . Ordered food to go and was told I can't I had to sit and eat . I orderer the Parmesan chicken tenders , claiming it came with rosemary Parmesan fries. They simply dump Parmesan all over regular fries and tenders. My plate was put in the window and sat to 11 mins before the waitress wrapped up her personal convo with a friend to get it. And then tried gas lighting me saying they were just waiting for the fries. I would recommend eating anywhere else but here especially if you are in a time crunch 30 mins for tenders and fries with 4 people in the restaurant isn't express by any means .

Yelp
For a casual airport restaurant this was pretty solid. The service was surprisingly good (outside of not being able to substitute fries for a salad), my waitress was always smiling and attentive with Diet Coke refills. I got the Grilled Chicken Avocado sandwich, solid 3 1/2 stars. Decent portion of protein, avo spread was fresh. The fries I'd give 4 stars, pretty tasty and well seasoned. Ambiance is very casual and basic, but this is an airport restaurant. Happily surprised!

Yelp
You expect airport food to be not as good but this food is terrible. They rely on being the only bar in terminal so you have no option. AA and JFK need to do better. This is gross. I would seriously consider flying delta vs AA just because of this. I travel often and I want to enjoy a decent meal while I watch the game. This food reminds me of hospital or school food.

Faith L.

Yelp
The tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich renewed my faith in humanity. The cheese sauce (for the everything pretzel) was surprisingly good. Is it cheap? No, you're in an airport. But it is real food, and tasty. Sit down and give in.

Shiloh K.

Yelp
I wish I could give 0 stars. Paper plates and food that tastes worse than a high school football game. I know, I should've checked reviews. But it was late and I was starving, I didn't finish it. Lesson learned.

Kimberly L.

Yelp
The food was decent for airport food. Located close to the gates so conveniently placed. A bit expensive but on brand for an airport restaurant. I ordered the chicken tenders and fries and it was better than expected. The server was prompt. Food served promptly as well. Total time spent here was about 30-40 minutes? Definitely nice for a quick meal before a flight but just be efficient about it (for ex. ask for check when you get your food while you have your servers attention)

Richa T.

Yelp
I stopped by here for a quick bite before an early am flight. I will say this was a great spot. Unnecessarily expensive, but the food was actually decent. I spent $30 on my breakfast which was toast, roasted potatoes, and scrambled eggs (with roasted red peppers, spinach, and feta) and a cup of coffee. The eggs were delicious and portions were large. However, I probably would not have bought this again. Not worth the price I had to pay for this. Service was fast though and they had clean tables. TBH, would not come here again. Mostly because the cost to worth ratio is terrible. IG: QueenOfAdventureNYC

Yelp
Mediocre food at expensive prices.. This burger was $25 dollars and the server didn't give me the option to change my fries to onion rings before leaving. Server seemed annoyed at us and we had to seat ourselves and wait for her to come to us. For the price I paid I'd at least expect to be seated by a host.. The restaurant itself was fine, nothing special.

Stuart O.

Yelp
Well, I guess you can make JFK Airport look nice, but you can't take the NY attitude out of the place. Stopped here during a longish lay over. Shared a mushroom flatbread. They didn't cut the 'pizza'. It wasn't crisp. The mushrooms were not the advertised 'wild mushrooms'. Then got a side of fries. They were ok. The waiter was a bit gruff, but what can you expect, it's NY!

Ric P.

Yelp
Soho Bistro is in the JFK InterNat airport in sight of the gates we flew into and out of. The front section was almost full and as we arrived a server/manager/worker was opening the back section; we were seated there. Within 20 mins the entire back section was filled with hungry, demanding travelers. This one lone server/manager/worker handled over 20 tables, by himself, and was busy, busy, busy. Let me tell you, he handled it all like a pro. Never stopping, constantly rushing, taking orders, bringing drinks, delivering food, refilling drinks, listening to complaints and providing to-go boxes for food they would probably not eat once on their next plane. A trooper! We ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and a burger. The grilled chicken had a light garlic bbq sauce brushed on which wasn't identified in the menu. It was a very light garlic so this wasn't a deal breaker. The burger was medium just as requested. The only complaint I'd have is the bacon for both dishes only saw the frying pan or flattop for less then 5-mins; it was just above raw ... If we ever return to JFK InterNat and that terminal, we'll stop in again!

Yelp
I did not want to believe all the low ratings and bad reviews this place got. However, they were spot on. The common theme of all the bad reviews echoed my experience. My service was very bad. My server was borderline rude and not very attentive. I felt that I was annoying him. The place has a decent sized dining room, food that you can grab from a refrigerator to-go, and two bars with seating and televisions. It was very busy, mainly because it is the only dining restaurant located in terminal #8. I ended up ordering the Chipotle Burger with fries. It took about 15 minutes for me to get my food. It was very warm and looked much better than it tasted. The burger was edible, but kind of bland. Well if you are traveling through JFK's terminal 8 and want to sit and enjoy a meal, this is your only option. Just be aware that you will probably get some mediocre food and subpar service. I may just eat out of a snack machine if I find myself here again.

Callie K.

Yelp
I generally check yelp before eating places. This time I didn't except to glance for a menu. We had a 3 hour layover and terminal 8 options were slim. Pizza, Mezze locations, some sad looking sandwiches or an overpriced sit down restaurant. We settled on here after exhausting our options. The staff was actually very friendly and kind. It did take a moment to get refills, but they had a rush. Food came out hot and in a decent time. It wasn't anything great but it hit the spot. The chicken has excellent flavor and the burger did too. Fries were hot and crisp. Hopefully if we are laying over here again there is more options.

Aaron B.

Yelp
Food okay. Servers fighting over table. Several tables around us had dirty dishes stacked up for almost our entire meal. Will go elsewhere next time.

Kathleen F.

Yelp
The meal I had here was pretty good. The burger was juicy and I appreciated that condiments came on the side. Service was nice and not pushy. There is enough light here so you can see everything.

Ken O.

Yelp
Mustafá was excellent. Great food. Big drinks. Quick service. Can't recommend highly enough.

Abhijai S.

Yelp
Wouldn't recommend the mushroom pizza, tasted like cardboard and extremely overpriced. Service is disorganized and slow. Stay away at all costs

Keri Q.

Yelp
Popped in there because it was close to my departure gate and I didn't have a whole lot of time. Chicken fingers and French fries were barely over room temperature (probably sitting under a heat lamp as another Yelper mentioned). Chicken is super crunchy and the breading/batter went flying off my plate when I tried to cut it. Server Jamal was attentive, friendly and quick - 4 stars for him!

Karen M.

Yelp
Eat here if you hate good food, good service, and getting your meal before an hour has lapsed. It took forever to get my burger and when it finally arrived, it was charred and disgusting. They also advertise rosemary fries - no such thing. It was awful. I only ate it because I was starving and my flight was boarding in 15 minutes. I had arrived when I had ONE HOUR and 15 minutes til boarding. For the prices they charge, there is no excuse. It is the first time I have not left a tip.

Nicole M.

Yelp
Service was good, food was ready exceptionally fast, and everyone in my party was happy with their orders (Reuben & flatbreads). we were very pleasantly surprised.

Kawthar A.

Yelp
Good service and a great flatbread pizza. I am instructed to write more so yeah for airport food this is great

Natalia M.

Yelp
Mediocre food at expensive prices.. Chicken tenders for $20.. Server seemed annoyed at us the whole time.. She didn't even tell us how to pay or anything she just gave us the receipt and left us on our own. The ambiance was fine, just a regular restaurant. Although we weren't even seated by a host, we had to seat ourselves.

Shareen L.

Yelp
Typical overpriced airport food. Service was average we had to wave down a server to get our order taken. The chipotle burger was dry and didn't have any chipotle ketchup as stated on the menu. It came with a side of regular ketchup. Next time I'm going to just bring my own food to JFK.

Phil T.

Yelp
Haven't made it to 'The Admiral Club' but still desire to enjoy a relaxing bite to eat that you didn't need to schlep back to the gate & balance on your knee while someone's emotional support animal yanks at their leash in a desperate attempt to beg for a morsel of whatever you procured at a huge mark-up? Well... Cafe Bistro is the place for you! It's a $25 barely-better-than-BurgerKing entrée at an actual table with an actual waiter and you'll feel like you're merely on a budget meal out and not at JFK airport.

Liz H.

Yelp
There were only three breakfast options, but the food was good, service was quick and the server was nice! The restaurant decor is quite dated, but otherwise it's worth a try!

Wyatt B.

Yelp
Hidden gem located in terminal 8 of the JFK International Airport. The timeless decorations make you feel like you're watching the big game in your Grandfather's living room, and ultimately form quite a convivial environment. The waitstaff is kind, attentive, and respectful of all your various accommodations. Next time you're catching a flight you're going to want to get the Mushroom burger at Soho Bistro-- tell them Wyatt sent you!

Juni L.

Yelp
The bartender took 15 minutes to greet me. Then he took another 13 minutes to take my order. He didn't even hear my food order so I was sitting here starving for 39 minutes until I finally had it and told him I've been waiting and he didn't even realize that I ordered it, even though I did and 3 other customers heard me too. Ridiculous, why does this guy even work here? This was between 2:18 Pm and 3:26 Pm on Monday, March 13, 2023 I'm still sitting here.

Mama K.

Yelp
Oh, I how wish that I had checked the Yelp reviews before I sat down at this place. I stopped in at about 9:30 a.m. for breakfast. My server, Justin, was okay, although I always had to ask for more coffee (it was never just offered). However, I don't like what he did! I ordered the "Classic Breakfast" with scrambled eggs and bacon. To my amazement, Justin brought my plate to the table about a minute later. What became clear within about a minute was that this plate had been sitting under a heat lamp. It only took that long for the eggs to get cold. I really resent paying $15.99 (over $21 when you figure in coffee, tax, and tip) for a breakfast that wasn't made to order and wasn't even hot. I should have complained, but I didn't. Don't let them give you leftover food that's just been sitting there. I will never go back to the Soho Bistro.

Michael L.

Yelp
Over $20 for a burger that came was cooked hours ago with some wilted lettuce and tomatoes. Fries were cold and nasty. The only reason this place stays in business is because it's the only sit down in this terminal! Waste of money do not come here! I ordered the burger and three minutes later a medium well steak burger was delivered, not possible if it's fresh. I gave it two starts since the beer was good.

Cindy C.

Yelp
If you're pushed for time, pass on this one. Service is painfully slow and the food is mediocre at best. The day we went, we had a long layover so we decided to have a sit down meal rather than fast food airport food. There was only one waiter in sight. He managed to work quickly to get everyone seated and order placed. However, the food took very long time. I'd say like 40 minutes. Then, only one of the two dishes came out. The waiter kept saying it's almost ready when in fact took another 30 minutes for the second entree to come out. Really? Was he taunting us by saying it's almost ready when in fact it really wasn't? We were so frustrated by the time the second dish came out, we couldn't eat fast enough to leave the place. The margarita pizza wasn't good at all. I couldn't finish it. It tasted like microwaved frozen food. The salad was decent with good size mozzarella cheese. I recommend to pass on this one.

Benjamin K.

Yelp
Everything about this place screams a 2. Below average service, food, selection, pricing. Nothing stands out for being good. Every time I come to the American terminal and have some time to kill to grab a meal, I acknowledge my choices are limited, I'll probably end up here and be annoyed by it. It shouldn't be so hard to have a decent restaurant in an airport.

R J.

Yelp
No menu descriptions when you scan the bar code no instructions from anyone on how to order e seated etc. To go items including sandwiches not printed anywhere except a plastic sign outside the restaurant no list of non-alcoholic drinks. A complete shitshow of a lack of information. Also the stop breakfast at 930 and have a sign saying it starts at 9. Lunch starts at 930. And of course a dingy decor and insane prices. Ugh ugh ugh

Andres O.

Yelp
Rude, unprofessional, and the can of beer they brought me was filthy. I should have read the reviews before coming here. I hope this review saves somebody from a horrible experience like mine. The waitress didn't speak or understood English very well. A total shame.

Mey S.

Yelp
The bartender's name (HAPPY) is so rude and disgustingly, he gave me the worse service I have had in my whole life traveling.

Norm W.

Yelp
The lovely K and I typically do not eat in airport restaurants as they are usually very expensive with poor quality food and disinterested serving staff. We have certainly had some memorable experiences at our Home airport in Vancouver, so JFK in New York City has to be way worse doesn't it? Turns out, in our case, at least today, at Soho Bistro at gate 43 in, Terminal 8, being served by Anganie, we were dead wrong! She was cordial upon welcoming us, sat us in a great spot to watch the World wander past. She brought water with lots of ice and the lemon we requested, which sadly seems sometimes to be a big ask. My Stella came in a very cold glass filled to the brim and the lovely K's glass of Sauvignon Blanc was a generous pour. Our shared chopped Greek salad was very fresh with a good variety of ingredients and three top quality kalamata olives. She had brought two little containers of dressing on the side, and an extra bowl for us without asking. Now we know as much as the next person that this sort of service should be the norm, but seldom is, especially in the airports we have frequented. Thank you Anganie, if we are back at JFK and flying back home to Vancouver, we will be seeking you out for sure. Cheers!

Alexia A.

Yelp
Great French fries, solid beer, fast and friendly service. Hours are longer than maps app / google says

Gretchen T.

Yelp
Flying out of JFK on an early morning flight, we stopped in here for breakfast. We enjoyed eating here. My party included my husband, daughter and son. We each ordered a different meal and everyone enjoyed their meal. We all were particularly fond of the cubed potatoes! My son has the chicken fingers. The portion was generous and he said they tasted as good as they looked. My husband had the Soho classic, My daughter had the spinach omelet and I had the Soho special. Delicious!! The coffee was good too. Would eat here again if my travels take me to this airport again.

Brad H.

Yelp
The only good thing about the experience at this place was the bartender, Adel. He was working hard and very friendly. The food on the other hand was awful, especially given the prices they charge. I understand this is in airport spot, so not much can be expected, but the food was horrible. I had the buffalo chicken flatbread. The menu says nothing about the flatbread coming with a red/tomato sauce, and why would it? Any person who has ever had a buffalo chicken flatbread or pizza knows that the base is supposed to be buffalo sauce, ranch, bleu cheese or a combination of those. Even a garlic base would have been acceptable. But to mix the flavors of buffalo sauce, bleu cheese sauce, and red tomato sauce was disgusting. Anyone with a basic understanding of food would know those flavors do not go together. On top of that, the flatbread was not at all crisp and fell apart with each attempted bite. My wife's turkey sandwich was also gross and was served with what seemed to be the lowest quality meat possible. If you want a drink maybe stop here and Adel will hook you up. But stay away if you want good food.

Alice C.

Yelp
It's is a little glorified diner. I've been there a couple times now when I fly American. Not impressed but that's the only place to sit in that boarding area. Meh It's dingy and depressed looking. The food is hmmm - not good for the price you pay. I can't even say it's good if they charge less. Def not a place that would survive if it were located at the airport. Pros are you sit down, eat, and get out when you are ready to board. The servers are pretty attentive and you get the check promptly. They do have a TV so you can pass time in case your flight were delayed. Also the bathroom is outside of the restaurant. So you should use the bathroom before you sit down if you are traveling solo. Overall - I will make a mental note to not fly American or go to a different restaurant in T8

Rich C.

Yelp
This was a nice place to sit down and eat. I got the mushroom burger and my daughter the chicken sandwich. A bit pricey but it's an airport and only other place to sit and eat. Service was slow as the place was packed but the food was pretty good. Both were cooked perfectly and everything tasted really good.

Potato F.

Yelp
When you're whiling away time at the airport and trying to keep your anxiety down and spirits up, it's a bummer to order something comforting and receive bland fries that tasted like they came from the frozen food section of the nearest supermarket. They were piping hot, but unseasoned. We had generic salt and pepper on the tabletop to salt ourselves but it was a surprise to be presented with unseasoned, ungarnished fries, without a dip. We had to request the ketchup. Get the mediocre but generous pours of wine instead. I got a small glass and can only imagine what the large would be. It just might help you forget about the fries and fall asleep on the plane.

Joe B.

Yelp
Incredibly fast service, but terrible food and drinks! If you're in a pinch of time and need something this place will get it quick and cash you out before you even start eating, but nothing special.

Alexandra L.

Yelp
The Quick: *For an airpoet* incredible plant based (Vegan) meal. Awesome server she was so sweet and accommodating when we were delayed. Highly recommend the veggie gyro--the veggies were grilled perfectly. I swapped the tizaki (yogurt sauce) for extra hummus so it was dairy free. The rosemary fries were a treat. Plus the portion was big! Overall great airport experience

Vajra M.

Yelp
Not good if you're in a hurry. 20 minutes before order was taken. Seriously understaffed. They do try their best but they are running around like headless chickens unable to keep up with everyone's demands. Lots of empty seats people fed up waiting getting up and leaving! Very good fries.

Julio L.

Yelp
Bad service, overpriced mediocre food. Was rushed to finish my meal. Just buy snacks instead.

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Good food while waiting for plane at jfk I had a beer and an appetizer fries and it was really good

Frank D.

Yelp
Awful service. A line out into the terminal to get in. Wait about 20 min to place order. Watch people who arrived after us get served before us. Finally give up and leave. No wonder there was a line to get in. Our drinks were sitting on the bar as we walked out 45 minutes after joining the queue. Surly servers who could be making bank with a little hustle. As such our possible $50 could have generated a $10 tip. Left and went to Bobby Vans in terminal 8. Wonder how many others do the same when they have flights to catch? Huge difference in service quality at Bobby Vans.

Louis R.

Yelp
We visited early Saturday Morning - I'm not sure how I managed to stay awake. Anyways - Service was pretty good. Young woman who served us was very kind and friendly. Food was very disappointing - Extremely small portions - desperate and pathetic attempt @ trying to be "European". Wondering why they only gave us one piece of toast. I can't let that go. Price was astronomical; just way to high. All that money for nothing!

VeniceGrl F.

Yelp
2 stars for the batenders.... Zero for the chicken fingers that were overcooked. Beer was cold.

Wenchao T.

Yelp
The service is horrible. I counted there are half dozen servers, most of them just talking among themselves, ignoring customers completely. Would never again eat at this place.

Michael M.

Yelp
Sunday July 7th, 2019. 14:30 hrs. Server: Marlene I am thinking this place is hit or miss depending on the server and chef. We went on a Sunday on a return trip home and wanted something to eat. We were pleasantly surprised! We recommend the "Dirty Chips" and the "Flat Iron Steak". Both were really good! The "Dirty Chips" are bbq pulled pork served on a bed of kettle chips. They were really good! The "Flat Iron Steak" was made medium as requested and was tender and delicious. Our server, Marleen, added to our experience by being friendly and attentive! She even gave us wet wipes without asking for them. That really added to the excellent service. We're not sure why the 1 star. Again, we are thinking it depends on the chef and server and the number of people being served. When we were here, it was fairly empty.
