How are we this lucky?? NDG has a seriously great panel of hidden places that are iconic and unique, and I feel like Solomos is quickly going to be one of them. It's fresh, it's new, but mostly it's QUALITY. We always gawked confusingly at the lines that would form outside this small establishment that looked more like a trendy science lab than a place to order food.
Get here early, especially on weekends as some of their specialties (Solomos cream cheese) will sell out super fast. Heck, I went on a random Tuesday morning an hour after they opened and they already ran out. This place is popular with everyone! They're so good they don't need to advertise; just let that long line of people speak for itself.
We got the classic bagel sandwich with cold smoked salmon, capers, cucumbers and their in house cream cheese. Omg, wow..! It's so, so fresh! the salmon almost tasted like high grade sashimi with a hint of smoke. Cucumbers were thinly sliced yet crunchy and again so fresh. Capers were a nice hit of salt, and a perfect amount. Finally, their cream cheese is wonderfully light, yet creamy, and flavors are perfection. It doesn't hit you right away like philly's cream cheese, but it has a taste that builds as you have more of it and let it marinate in your mouth with other ingredients. I ended up going back to get their dill and pickle cream cheese and now we are looking at this little tub excited at all the things we can spread this tub of joy on. It is on the pricier side with cream cheese coming to about $6-8, and the sandwiches ranging about $9-10ish.
Service is always friendly, and the place is so quiet. I'm used to delis and fish markets being loud, overcrowded, and filled with surly or rambunctious bearded men. Not here. It's like a temple when you come in; clean, quiet, fast service, and gorgeously decorated if you like Scandi minimalistic look. The beautiful star lights in the storefront create a cozy feel in an otherwise very spacious, serene atmosphere. They also take covid precautions seriously, with markings on the floor to social distance, and the customers seem to know wordlessly the dance to follow (only have 2-3 ppl in the store at a time, keep your distance, use hand sanitizer on the side).
Solomos once I become baller, you will see me often! For now, I'll come every now and again as a treat and rejoice to see your business continue to bloom!
