"Soma has an inauspicious exterior—an unmarked door and a bouncer—that descends into a cool metallic bunker of 007 nature. The impressive oval bar acts as a giant sharing table and there’s a short but excellent list of remixed, and sometimes even improved, takes on classic cocktails like the enticing kumquat zing of the mezcal margarita. From the team behind casual Indian spot Kricket, Soma is an achingly cool place meant for anyone who has abandoned Sean Paul-imposed tinnitus in pursuit of greater thrills, like London’s most lethally sippable bay leaf martini. Sometimes there’s a queue after midnight and it’s a small space so opt for somewhere else if you’re rolling with a group. "Soma is a brilliant moody Soho cocktail bar from the team behind Kricket. As per the restaurant group’s Indian influence, things are done a little differently here. But different is good. Before ordering it will more than likely be stressed that their martini is an acquired taste. Bay leaf sake and pickled shallot feature. But traditionalists do not fear: this a superb, top-tier martini that swaps brine for a flirty whisper of pickle. Its temperature is also positively glacial." - jake missing, daisy meager
