Best Ice Cream Shops in San Jose and the South Bay Area | Eater SF

"Hailing from Southern California, SomiSomi has made a name for itself with its Korean dessert known as “ah-boong” — a crispy, fish-shaped waffle cone lined with dollops of filling and topped with creamy soft serve. The shops source milk from farms in California, though select flavors are lactose-free. The seasonal summer flavor, pink guava, has been a hit, and some of the most commonly ordered soft serve flavors include cookies ‘n cream and ube. For those looking for something a little warmer to pair with their ice cream, SomiSomi also serves taiyaki, fish-shaped pastries reminiscent of hot pockets, with a warm, toasted exterior and soft-mochi like filling in a variety of flavors." - Cathy Park

The first Somi I ever went to! Cool to see that they've now expanded to many more locations across the country and every one I've tried is consistent in quality. I recommend their upside-down with nutella/red bean fill + any soft serve flavor of your choice. Their individual taiyaki is also delicious and served fresh. There's often a line during peak hours, but it moves quickly! The storefront itself is super small but there's plenty of seating outside. Never had issues parking in the Main St structure; however, street parking can be hard around mealtimes.

I love this! The Taiyaki is crispy outside and squashy inside. You got many choices for the filling of Taiyaki. I chose black sesame which gives a distinct nutty taste. The ice cream is creamy and has deep ube flavor. The volume per cup is just right for a dessert after dinner. Enjoyed!

Google
Ice cream flavours are good. Tried the matcha and cookies n crème flavour which was yum. Might have to wait a bit to get your order, there might be long lines outside the store

Google
The taiyaki is always perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and chewy inside, with generous fillings—Nutella and custard are my favorites! The staff is quick and friendly, and even when there’s a line, it moves fast. The shop is clean, kid-friendly, and offers a cozy atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating. Sometimes it’s hard to find a parking around.

Google
Seems that this location has started cost cutting. There used to be more filling, now there's almost none. And the fish used to be thicker, chewier. Now it's thin and crispy. Sad.

06.22.25 Sunday We don't think this is Korean operated. Definitely NOT Korean flavors at all, NOT KOREAN 붕어빵 nor anything that resembles the taste of the tasty, light doughy, yet crispy fish shaped red bean filled pastry found all over Korea street food. It should be a fairly basic recipe yet no. Disappointed but it's nice they tried to introduce it to the American public, maybe just change the recipe to resemble the actual flavor more. Maybe the ice cream flavors taste better?

I’m always down for Asian desserts especially soft serve and taiyaki. Somisomi provides some of the most delicious taiyaki in the area, with a soft middle slightly crispy on the outside waffle cone shaped like a fish. I love how you can choose the filling because sometimes red bean is too much after a meal. The custard is perfect! We sometimes buy the taiyaki filled to take home and they are a nice snack. Flavors change on a weekly basis and the toppings always add the right amount of added texture to the soft serve. We come here when we eat in the area, but beware during busy times the wait can be around 30min as the line sometimes goes down the street.

Google
I love the ice creams here especially with Taiyaki. Ube and Matcha with in soft Taiyaki being my favourite. This is quite a popular place and you can always expect a queue and overall wait time of at least 20 minutes.

Yelp
This location is nice, there are plenty of outdoor seating outside the shop. On busier days/nights there may not be outdoor seating (directly outside the shop) readily available but this location is great for walking. There is more seating as you walk in the plaza. Pretty fast service. I waited in line for about ~4 minutes and got my order in ~3-4 minutes. I ordered the Upside-down Ahboong with custard filling + Matcha soft served + oreo crumbs. This tasted great. The custard filling is just the right amount and the matcha soft served ice cream was amazing. I was hesitant to order matcha because some places have weird tasting ones, but Somisomi was perfect. Overall 5/5 stars.

Yelp
Nice location in a plaza with indoor and structured parking, and plenty of outdoor seating shared with neighboring units in the Plaza. I tried their new banana and Cookies and cream swirl in a cup. So tasty and creamy! Short line for me when I went early evening during midweek. Love this plaza and all of the other food options.

Yelp
5/5 overall Somisomi is a great soft-serve taiyaki spot located in Main Street Cupertino. This somisomi location is one of my favorites with chairs and tables outside of the location to enjoy your ice cream either by yourself or with the company of friends. They frequently change out their flavors and combos. Despite lines often building up after dinner hours, they are fast. Make sure to stop by and get the taiyaki, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Perfect spot for dessert! I ordered the ube & horchata upside down w/ nutella w/ fruity pebbles and marcaron and it was delicious. The breaded fish was crispy and sweet with the nutella inside and the ice cream was smooth and creamy.  Thankfully when we went the line was short but that can easily change quickly! But the line goes by quickly and it usually looks busier than it actually is because people stand in front eating their dessert.  I highly recommend also trying the taiyakis! My favorite is with the nutella filling.

Yelp
Somisomi is always standing on business! This is the truth - we tried the matcha and horchata, and it was soooooo good. Reminds me a bit of a healthier matcha latte with chai in it. The flavor was so delightfully mild, the line was quick, and despite being cold af, the custard in the ahboong was quite yummy. Ambience: You can expect to stand and eat inside or outside, however, it definitely gets crowded inside. Truthfully, one upside down ahboong with soft serve is enough for two people, it was extremely filling. There are no bathrooms, parking is easy since there are plenty of free spots outside in the parking lot. Service was friendly!

Yelp
Trying for 1st time. Got 2 upside down Ahboong, 1 Thai tea/ube swirl with taro filling and matcha sprinkle and a cookies and cream with custard filling. Pretty long wait, but maybe normal for a Fri night, about 20 min.. nice to wait inside after ordering to get out of the cold. Decent amount of soft serve. Flavors pretty good. I preferred the Thai tea/ube over the cookies n cream. Cookies and cream not really that same punch as a normal cookies and cream, but decent. The ahboong was crispy outside, soft inside. Kinda fun to eat from the tail of the fish down. Just don't tip the cup too much when eating the fish as you'll start to tip melted soft serve out of the cup. Not that I did this :).... Service was relatively quick, although not really friendly. Inside, pretty bright and neat, no music. Will be back again, but maybe wait for a month or so.

Yelp
For how much food costs these days, this place is actually fairly great value. I got the matcha-ube mix with upside down fish (red bean). Beautiful presentation. The fish was crispy and soft. But the softserve, in my opinion, was a little too "milky" in taste. That milkiness make feel heavier than refreshing. Still solid and definitely recommend.

Yelp
I stopped into SOMISOMI on a Sunday around lunchtime and didn't have to wait at all. I ordered an upside down Ahboong (soft serve in a cup with a Taiyaki, the signature fish shaped waffle, on top), custard filling, with the swirled Thai Tea/Ube ice cream. It absolutely hit the spot! The Thai Tea ice cream tastes exactly like Thai tea and the colors are stunning. The waffle is always sweet and lightly crisp. The Ube flavor got a little lost compared to the stronger Thai tea flavor, but I still enjoyed it. I usually get the Nutella filling; the custard flavor was a little light in comparison, but still a nice, sweet compliment to the balanced soft serve flavors (which themselves are not too sweet). I didn't get a topping, but you can pick Oreo crumbles, fruity pebbles, matcha powder, or a few other options. One thing to note is that SOMISOMI doesn't have a ton of flavor options - they're currently serving Matcha, Cookies n Cream, Ube, Thai Tea, and swirls of Ube/Thai Tea or Matcha/Cookies n Cream (one of my go-to's)- so if you're looking for a classic vanilla or chocolate, that may be something to keep in mind.

Yelp
Overall: 4.2/5 (takeout) Came here for dessert after lunch with the family. They have a much larger staff than most Somi Somi locations we've been too. However, the cashier dude just didn't look happy. Granted, he was working on Christmas Day so it's understandable. Upside Down Ahboong ($6.95): We got the matcha & red bean swirl with custard filling, matcha powder, and coconut flakes. The matcha was good but the red bean was too sweet. We didn't finish it and put the left over soft serve in my cold brew. Cold Brew Soft ($5.95): I got the cookies n' cream & ube soft serve. It wasn't that sweet but balanced out the cold brew. Once you mix it up, the drink texture is in between an iced coffee and slushie/frosty. Adding in the matcha & red bean swirl soft serve made the drink sweeter. This was better than expected and didn't taste as creamy as a affogato surprisingly.

Yelp
I don't get the hype and I definitely wasn't impressed but I'm glad I finally gave SomiSomi a try... My SO and I brought our 3 year old here for dessert and the usual sight of long, forever growing lines did not disappoint. To be clear, the size of the crowd from an outsider's perspective is actually a combo of customers standing around intertwined with patrons who are actually waiting to get in and purchase. Don't be too quick to make the decision NOT to visit like I did a few times. Being that this was our first time at SomiSomi, we were a bit indecisive as we looked over the menu. The employee at the register wasn't rude but it was obvious that he wanted us to just keep things moving. After apologizing a number of times, we decided to go with: - Matcha & Ube Swirl w/ Fruity Pebbles - [Upside Down Ahboong] Cookies & Cream w/ Sprinkles To be honest, the best part of this whole experience was the pretty pictures I got out of it. The soft serve was overhyped in my opinion and it melted a lot quicker than I had hoped- even on a cold blustery evening. Kudos specifically because these purchases are great for photography purposes but it didn't tickle my fancy when it came down to taste. Cant say I'd be a regular but I'm glad I gave it a go.

Yelp
I've gone here a handful of times for dessert when I eat in this plaza! Sometimes there's a really long line, but it is worth the wait. The soft serve is so yummy and there are many flavors and toppings. There is some seating outside. They are pretty consistent and have different flavors every so often.

Yelp
After class, I was craving for some sweets and wanted some Somi Somi. I wanted to make an online order, but it seems like they don't have one on their website yet. Upon arriving to the place, there is not seating available inside and it's more oriented towards takeout. It's a really small shop. Parking is limited when it's busy but you can always park on Main Street Cupertino. I put in 7 orders of taiyaki and it didn't really take long since there wasn't any customers during the time. I went home and munched on my Nutella taiyaki and it was sooo delicious. Perfect snack with a nice cup of hot coffee. Yum~

Yelp
Located in Main Street Cupertino, SomiSomi will bring you some amazing soft serve ice cream. Compared to other SomiSomi places which have 6 flavors, this branch only offers 4 flavors at a given time. There is no seating inside, but there are plenty of tables outside to enjoy the ice cream. Their usual soft serve ice cream costs $4.50, but I enjoy it. It's very thick and doesn't melt that fast. It's also quite creamy and has a taste you won't get tired of. For two dollars more, you can add fish tayaki to your ice cream either as a cone or a topping. I recommend getting it as a topping as the tayaki will become soggy as a cone. It tastes very fresh and adds that cake-texture to your ice cream. Regarding the flavors, you really can't go wrong with any of them! My personal favorite are the Milk flavor and the Sesame flavor as it's more unique compared to other ice cream places! Overall definitely give this dessert place a shot. It is quite the catch!

Yelp
Yum! Somi somi is always a great dinner choice. This location typically has black sesame, matcha, ube, and cookies & cream. This recent visit we got the black sesame with a sprinkle of oreo crumbs which may be my favorite combo yet. The taiyaki fish is good but since they make it fresh, there's usually a wait if you want the waffle along with soft serve. The line was pretty long when we came on a Saturday night and we opted to just get the soft serve in a cup when we heard the taiyaki would be an additional 30 min wait. The ice cream is good nevertheless and a nice post-dinner treat.

Yelp
Ube with some matcha powder is my favorite at Somi Somi. Never disappoints. Real Ube taste not the mild taro kind. Line was long but it moved pretty fast.

Yelp
This location was our first discovery of Somi Somi! And till this day, we are loyal customers, at all your locations. Always a treat. Quality/Quantity - Simple menu done well! Today we got the following both upside down Ahboong: 1/2 Ube & 1/2 Matcha with red bean filling - I enjoyed the Ube more than the Matcha. My favorite Matcha soft serve is in Japantown in SF. Cookies & Cream with custard filling - My daughter's favorite. Also see picture of available toppings. Taiyaki is made fresh consistently throughout the day, with an open kitchen concept, see pictures. I see the fan cooling the Taiyaki so it does not melt the soft serve, but we really enjoy the Taiyaki warm, hot, and fresh! New cold brew coffee which I REALLY wanted to try, but I had too much coffee for today already... Of course, I would have done it as a float also. Atmosphere - Small take out business with outdoor mall seating. Service - Good, quick. Price - $14. Owner Suggestion - Congrats on all your success since 2016. The parent company is only 7 years old. Are all the franchise territories sold out? Your website is not accepting any more applications. 35+ locations on the books and growing.

Yelp
Second trip here so I thought I'd review it. I got a small box of taiyaki (little fish waffles) before and they were piping hot and fresh - yum! This time we got the ah boong, which is a larger fish waffle with soft serve ice cream - either the waffle is used as a cone, or else it's served "upside down", meaning in a cup on top of the ice cream. The waffle is good, but not as fresh, since they are not made to order like the taiyaki. Also we ordered ours with custard, but there was hardly any in it. Soft serve ube ice cream was good, though not strongly flavored or super rich, but still good. Minimal seating inside - there's plenty outside if the weather is not but we went right after it rained so the chairs outside were wet, so keep that in mind if the weather is extremely hot or wet for outside seating. 5 stars except for one deducted for the missing custard and also I wish they'd put more info on the menu for newbies who may not know what taiyaki, ah boong, or "upside down" means!

Yelp
Kinda upset with myself that I didn't know about this place already! lol What a cute little place and an even cuter offering! I'll spare the details and say that their soft-serves were amazing!! We got the Ube and Cookies and Cream flavors and Ube was much better. Taiyaki was a very new and a very novel concept for me and I was very apprehensive when I ordered one, but it was soooo good!! We got the red bean filling and it was the right amount of sweet. If the line wasn't wayyy out the door, we would've ordered a couple more for sure. What really hit it outta park for me though was the service. I accidentally ordered and paid for 3 cups and then when they prepped the order, I realized my mistake. I let my server know and she promptly cancelled my additional order and reimbursed the money for the extra cup. Even with such a long line, she was very quick with rectifying my order and I thought that kinda service was a class apart. We will definitely stop by at the nearest SomiSomi location every opportunity we get!

Yelp
Went right as they opened and got the Thai tea and cookies and cream swirl! The fresh cone was so nice and crispy, and the lady behind the counter had great costumer service!

Yelp
Just the most wonderful place to stop at on hot days and late night sweet cravings!! We have been going to this location since they opened and it is a great experience every time!! Love their match and ube soft serves. The staff is friendly and efficient, the line moves very fast and never had to wait more than 5-10 min to get served. Will be back more during the hot days of the summer!
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
I got the upside down - ube cookies and cream with Nutella inside and Biscoff and Oreo cookie crumble topping. I couldn't help eating it before taking a picture. Super yummy and has a lot of options. This place gets pretty busy in the evening but the line goes quickly. There are no seats inside, but a fair amount of seats outside.
google avatar

Izzie L.

Yelp
The taiyaki I got on this day was delicious! I always fill it with Nutella. :) I got an upside down ahboong with the following flavors: + Black Sesame [4/5]: Not as flavorful as I remember it; I think the Cookies and Cream is really overpowering so the flavor of this was more hidden. + Cookies and Cream [4/5]: A little too sweet so not as enjoyable. Tastes like Oreo though! Service was really fast for such a busy night. Props to the workers!
google avatar

Cameron L.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday night and it wasn't too crowded, but don't get me wrong there was still a line. I've passed by here on weekend nights and the line can be crazy long, so the timing has to be planned to minimize waiting in line. The interior is really small which also causes the longer lines. I got the cookies & crème flavor and it was tasty! The texture was nice and not too sweet. As for toppings I asked the worker for their recommendation and it was a good combination - but I don't think it added too much to the taste. I also got a macaroon added and I wasn't a fan of this. It was really hard compared to your normal macaroon, maybe this was because I came later in the day. I would be skeptical to get it again since I could get another topping with that space instead.
google avatar

Ash R.

Yelp
This place is very nostalgic for me. I usually get the matcha or ube soft serve with sprinkles and a macaron. I will say the matcha is a bit bitter for my liking, but the ube is really good. The cone is also good but when they fill it, it becomes too heavy for me. The line is also usually short and they make everything fresh in front of you including the waffles. The ambiance is also very nostalgic with a bunch of people outside. Overall a good, affordable place to go.
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
The place to be on a Friday night! The line went surprisingly fast as they were very efficient. We don't have a regular taiyaki ice cream spot in Portland so I was pumped they were open late so I could get some after the kiddos went to sleep. I was a noob and didn't realize they asked you what toppings you want when you pick up your order and I confused the people there. Haha. So don't be me and know you can pick as many toppings like captain crunch and coconut when you pick up your order! Everything was fresh and tasty. I got half red bean half matcha in taiyaki. The taiyaki was chewy and fresh. The soft serve was creamy and paired perfectly with some captain crunch sprinkle. A got a cold brew with ice cream and he said it was delicious cold brew! Worth the wait if you are looking for a fresh and unique dessert. Also feel like it's the perfect people watching and tea listening spot!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is always poppin' -- and for good reason! Don't get too discouraged by the line, it goes by pretty quickly. The inside is small, nowhere to sit. However there are benches and tables outside. The ordering system is pretty simple: choose your set-up, flavor, and toppings. I love that there are staple flavors, as well as seasonal ones too. During this trip we ordered: -Matcha / Guava with matcha topping and custard filling -Ube / Cookies & Cream and Nutella filling Amazing, never disappointed by the taste or quality. The fish cones are always perfectly cooked and filled with a generous amount of ice cream. I will 100% be back.
google avatar

Ritchie A.

Yelp
This place is always busy but we don't mind the wait! The ube flavor is my favorite here, I also recently tried the float, coffee tasted strong but good! Seats are available outside and the service is fast! Workers are friendly even if they are always super busy!
google avatar

Jessie S.

Yelp
If you're on the hunt for soft serve with a unique twist, Somi Somi is worth a visit. Their Pink Guava flavor caught my attention this time. It's light, refreshing, and not overly sweet, which is a nice change from the usual offerings elsewhere. For those who prefer more traditional tastes, their Cookies and Cream is a strong choice. It's rich and satisfying with a good balance of cookie crunch and creamy soft serve. However, if you're going for the Red Bean filling, keep in mind they tend to be a bit stingy with the portions. In contrast, the Nutella and custard fillings have always been generous and well worth trying. The main downside here is the consistently long line. It's clear that Somi Somi's soft serve has a strong fan base, so be prepared to wait a bit before you get your treat. Overall, despite the occasional filling issue and the wait times, Somi Somi still holds its own with its unique flavors and quality soft serve. Worth a try if you're in the mood for something different in your dessert.

Yelp
A friend brought me here a year or so back and I was wondering how I'd never known/heard about this place before. Probably because I'd stayed away from sweets for a while. I've been a regular ever since, and I will specifically vouch for the Ube and Matcha combo. I like it with Nutella and Red Bean both. I prefer the upside down Ahboong (it just feels better and easy to eat I guess, lol) and not adding other toppings as such. Other flavors, not as big a fan I guess. Perfect for a summer day. Get this and a hot dog next door and grab a table outside (hopefully not an insanely hot day!), and you're set. I've brought a lot of friends here since and they all like the same flavors the best, although we've tried all of them. Service has always been very quick.

Yelp
review on service only! I've noticed that the past 2 times I've gone the service has been AWFUL. This place looks like it's run by too many teenagers who don't have any respect or regard for their customers and are just messing around. I've worked service jobs in high school and granted it's annoying to deal with customers but there's still a basic level of service you maintain when you're on the job. My friends and I went around closing and there was a line out the door. One of the workers (maaya?) yells at everyone and says get inside the doors. So all 10-15 of us have to cram into the small musty store after getting yelled at like we're at some summer camp. I understand they want to cut off the line at closing but there's a better way to do so than demand everyone to squish into their tiny store. On top of that the Asian boy worker who made our order flicked the cup at us?! Another instance, I was ordering at the counter and same girl (maaya) started having a full blown conversation with her friend behind me and complaining when I wasn't even done with my transaction. Everyone there looks like they are miserable and every customer who steps into the store is doing a disservice to them..

Yelp
With so many choices in the plaza I always end up choosing SomiSomi. Parking can be a pain depending on the time you go but if you're willing to walk; there is a parking structure nearby. Most of the time there is a line when I come and best believe weekends and summer time there is a line of 10+ all waiting for the warm freshly made to order ah-boong and taiyaki. There aren't tables to eat inside but sometimes there are tables set outside (I'm not sure if they're Sul & Bean's tables, the dessert shop next door). There's also a nice area behind Phil'z if you want to sit and enjoy your soft serve there. I normally like to order a custard filled upside down ah-boong (less messy to eat) with whichever swirl flavor of the week they have. Their swirl flavors change weekly and flavors vary by location. Sometimes when it's too cold out I opt to get their taiyaki. It's so good when it's fresh and warm!

Yelp
This somi somi was basically a stall as the entire store was the front counter and the kitchen in the back. There was no indoor seating, but there are tables set up outside to enjoy the dessert. With that being said, I really enjoyed their ice cream and taiyaki. I often went to the Berryessa location but tired this place as I had a gift certificate that needed to be used. I ordered an ube softserve and taiyakis. The Uve soft serve was just like every other location. A good hint of ube and the ice cream itself was very creamy and didn't melt that fast. The taiyakis were amazing though. They stayed crispy on the outside even after sitting, whereas at the berryessa location, they taiyakis would have gotten soft after sitting in the box for a minute. Every bite I had, it had a crispy crust, chewy mochi inside, and a great red bean filling. Overall, a great place to drop by for a quick snack.
google avatar

Shelly D.

Yelp
Good flavors of ice cream: matcha and Ube are our go-to. My ahboong was kinda broken but it was still good. Long lines but relative quick service (~15 minutes wait)
google avatar

Bruce H.

Yelp
3/5 as overall but 2/5 if considering flavor. I tried their Matcha and Ube flavors, where the experience was decent, with some noteworthy aspects and a few areas that fell short. The Matcha and Ube flavors were quite good, striking a balance between sweetness and maintaining a rich, dense flavor. While the Matcha flavor seemed slightly artificial, it still offered an enjoyable taste experience. On the downside, the staff at Somi Somi came acrossy as slightly rude, particularly when they were yelling out our names. However, it's worth considering that the noisy ambiance inside the shop may have contributed to the need for raised voices. Additionally, the temperature inside the shop was a bit uncomfortable, possibly due to the cooking activities taking place on-site.

Yelp
Food - Tayaki was simply utterly delicious. ! Would definitely recommend!! Service - I think the server got a bit frustrated but hey! We all have days ambiance - it's a small clean place in a nice neighbourhood
google avatar

Yelp
Because of the smaller setting, this store only offers 4 flavors and 2 swirls. In comparison, the San Jose Berryessa location is larger and offers 6 flavors and 3 swirls to choose from. I got the Matcha and Salted Caramel swirl and to me, the salted caramel was all I tasted. The matcha wasn't distinctive. The taiyaki was not warm when served but the store was busy when I visited so I wouldn't hold that against them. I got the red bean filling for my taiyaki and it wasn't too sweet. The taiyaki and ice cream could've been put together and presented more elegantly. No seating inside, but plenty of outdoor seating.
google avatar

Nick G.

Yelp
I've got to this place so many times at the service is always good. The prices are there, but the quality of the desert remains consistent. This place is definitely different compared to ice cream spots due to its unique factor of the cone. I have been to multiple locations and I have never been disappointed with the quality of the product.
google avatar

Yelp
We had ah-boong once when we went to Seoul in 2017, everything we ate there was good. This place is fancier and gives you a lot of options. You can choose from different flavors of soft serve ice cream, filling for the taiyaki and you can also add toppings if you like. We had the ube ice cream and it was delicious. The taiyaki is made freshly with just the right amount of filling. The red beans filling also compliment everything perfectly. Expect a little wait if you are getting taiyaki since it's being made freshly but it is worth the wait.

Yelp
I come here too often. And for a good reason-- the location is so convenient and their soft serve is delicious! Though weekdays are usually empty, be sure to come an hour before peak dinner time on Friday-Sunday to avoid long lines. Usually 7-9pm on weekends is busiest and lines can take as long as an hour until they serve you. They rotate their swirls every week, so you can try a combination of flavors. From ube to matcha to cookies and cream, it's always a hit! So creamy and light! You also get unlimited toppings, so I usually get half fruity pebbles and half sprinkles. They've stopped asking if you want macarons or strawberry on top, so be sure to ask when they add toppings to your soft serve! They also have a variety of flavors of taiyaki. The taiyaki is warm and crispy on the outside, and it seems to be made of mochi batter so it's chewy on the inside. My favorite is cheese with the ice cream (ahbong), but if you order taiyaki by itself, I wouldn't recommend since it's pretty salty and you don't have anything to balance it out. Taro is okay-- it's delicious initially but it can be pretty sweet and heavy after a couple bites. Recently they added strawberry milk to their menu and to be honest, it tastes like Strawberry Gogurt (remember those yogurt in a stick thing from childhood?) with fresh strawberry chunks. It's delicious, don't get me wrong, but I don't think I'd pay $6 for this. The glass bottle that comes along the drink is really nice though! Overall a solid dessert place for ice cream and taiyaki!

Yelp
I got the Ube and Thai Tea soft serve with a custard filled taiyaki and it was absolutely delicious. Refreshing flavors with a good amount of sweetness. Definitely a good afternoon dessert. The taiyaki was made fresh and crispy which balanced perfectly with the creamy soft serve. Service was quick and accommodating despite the longer lines during dinner time. Ambiance was fresh with an open station concept where you can see the employees making the taiyaki and piping the soft serve.

Yelp
Everytime I go to SOMISOMI I ask myself why I did it. The line is long, the ice is very heavy, too firm and I didn't like the taste. Ube matcha swirl takes away both flavors. I wouldn't come back and if I do, I'd just go with one single flavor. Probably the ube one.

Yelp
One of my favorite soft serve ice cream places with taiyaki. The bread and filling is always warm and fresh, I got the matcha and cookies ice cream with Nutella filling with macaroon topping and fruity pebbles. It's a small place but they serve the dessert in quick manner. They don't have indoor seating but they have tables and chairs outside and the ice cream is affordable price.

Yelp
I love the soft serve at this place. It's very milky and always tastes great, so it has that going for it. I'm not sure what was going on today, but they didn't have vanilla. You always have to hav vanilla! I got the pink guava which was good, but was really craving vanilla. Still, as I mentioned before, I love this place and it doesn't get much better with soft serve.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place. So I suggested with my kids to try it since they wanted ice cream. Pink guava and ube are great combo. You can't go wrong with each flavor but combining them together actually really works. So if they're available, try it! Make sure you eat it quick or it'll melt right away. It's warm inside the store, it's a soft serve and yea and it melted very quick when we walked few steps to find seats. Service is eh but oh well.

Yelp
Did not really enjoy the ice -cream, it tasted pretty much like a regular ice cream. The hype is not real, can skip.

Yelp
Taiyaki was my favorite! Both nutella and taro were good. Kids liked the swirls with upside down ah-bong!

Yelp
I love Somi Somi It's one of my favorite places to eat icecream and also taiyaki ( I mainly eat the icecream for Taiyaki) This time around I did get to try one of their seasonal (?) flavors red guava. It's is a very faint and tangy flavor its pretty good if you want a fruity flavor but my favorite hands down is still the Ube! The taiyaki has different fillings you can put in, such as nutella, custard, red bean etc but I always go with the custard! After its done theyll ask if you want certain extra cereal or toppings such as oreos and then a macaron or strawberry too! Usually theres a long line but it goes by pretty quickly. There are alot of tables and seats outside as well

Yelp
This place is always a great to grab a sweet treat! I love how the ice cream is lightly flavored but has enough to be noticeable. This last time I tried the guava ice cream ah boong with custard filling. Their matcha and ube are also delicious! I love how light and crispy the taiyaki is and the custard filling is so simple and goes perfectly with the warm waffle. The prices are reasonable and you get a good size portion.

Yelp
The taiyaki here is really good, it's crispy on the outside and has a mochi texture on the inside. I always get the nutella filling but they have lots of other options such as oreo, red bean, taro, custard, and cheddar. Honestly I do not really care for the soft serve but it is okay. There is no seating inside and service can get a little slow on the weekends as they make each taiyaki fresh.

Yelp
SomiSomi is always a solid spot to satisfy my soft serve cravings. My favorite swirl flavor is the ube and cookies n cream. I also love the classic milk flavor. I usually get the soft serve in a cup and it's a great dessert for after meals. There were a bunch of people on a Tuesday evening but the line moved decently fast.
