The Best Restaurants and Bars Near Chase Center | Eater SF

"Soft serve ice cream inside a pastry taiyaki fish: tough to beat. SomiSomi’s a national chain with dozens of locations, but that doesn’t mean the experience is any less delightful on Fourth Street. One can order the taiyaki ah boong, with the fish as a cone for the ice cream, or get it upside down in a cup, allowing for more toppings. Flavors include matcha custard and black sesame, plus fun toppings such as Fruity Pebbles and Biscoff Crumble." - Eater Staff

Google
Some of the best ice cream in San Francisco. Not too sweet, perfect texture/consistency and delicious flavours. Gluten-free options of just the soft serve available. I would give 5 stars but they are often short staffed at peak times leading to long wait times and lines of the door.

Yuna Y

Google
Ordered 5 pieces combo. The Oreo flavor is simply 2 Oreo cookie inside. I’m wondering Oreo cream or something else. This is disappointing. Sesame flavor is wonderful. Custard and matcha custard are average.

Google
I love this place. Great location near Spark Social SF and the chase center. Soft serve was delicious, and not too sweet. Customer service was amazing. And loved the topping bar options.

Excuse me? Why is this place amazing? I wish I heard about this place sooner, nifty little ice cream taiyaki shop with so many different flavors to put inside the taiyaki. They make each taiyaki fresh right then and there after you order so you get a nice warm taiyaki with delicious ice cream (and even Nutella) inside!

Google
I love Somisomi! The Taiyaki with sesame filling and the soft serve ube-matcha is addictive. 😍😋 When my husband and I spotted Somisomi for the first time, we couldn't get enough and came here every weekend. It's a dessert that doesn't feel like one - the flavors are balanced and not too sweet. 🍦I can recommend it to everyone who's into sweets and want to try sth. new.

Google
A great spot to experience the Korean Ah-Boong. Employees were nice and the food is exceptionally well made. There are no tables but there is a 'stand' where you can stand or lean against and put your food on (image for reference). If you're looking for a table to sit, there are none. The quality of the Ah-Boong is great. It's made to eat fresh and warm! It was excellent to eat during the chilly January weather. The employees were very nice. You do need to be a customer to use the restroom and the employee will give you a code to use the bathroom. Overall, a solid place to grab desserts after dinner.

Google
Although the ambience was good, we were not really impressed with the taste. We tried 2 different Taiyakis - one with Nutella and another with the Oreo filling. These were just like waffles, just tiny in size. In our opinion, the Oreo filling didn’t taste so good and Nutella was a little better than average. We also took the soft serve “cup” with Nutella filling. Honestly, we’ve had better ice creams and didn’t enjoy it so much.

Kristy

Google
Cookies and cream ice cream with the Nutella filling. Cute little fish cone but not ideal for eating. Tends to be slightly messy the further you get into eating it. I would suggest also getting a cup.

Yelp
Craving a sweet treat so we made the trek into the city. I figured parking would be easier here than in San Mateo, and it was closer too. Located less than a block from Spark Social. Street parking if you're lucky. Very clean location, you can either order from the kiosk or at the register. Rotation of ice cream flavors, D1 was excited for the Jeon Somi collab and immediately ordered the guava upside down ahboong with custard. We also ordered the 5 taiyaki... made to order, fresh and hot. We got matcha custard, 2 red bean, and 2 custard. First time trying the matcha custard and I am definitely a fan. We will be heating the leftovers in the air fryer. Glad to know it's there now and convenient, as long as there's no events happening at Chase Center or a Baseball Game.

Yelp
More like a novel dessert place to go. Tastes good, the fish waffles are fun, but the flavors are fine but nothing standout. My kids got a banana and taro flavor, both 3 stars. They were ok, both tasted pretty artificial. You can't use the fish waffle as a cone, but can get it inverted on top of the soft serve. There are fun toppings like cereal. We got a strawberry on top, it was quite hard.

Yelp
It's good to try something different when it comes to desserts or soft serve. Different styles come with different cultures, but I eat just how I like it. Somisomi was a brand new addition in Mission Bay, which was a block next to Spark Social. Of course, this Asian owned soft-serve parlor has three separate locations: San Mateo, Palo Alto, and San Jose. How do I like my Ahboong? The same way everyone had pictured their own, a fishlike taiyaki waffle that served as a night cap to place over the peak of the soft serve on a cup. It's been long enough that I get to see how Koreans have come up with such an amazing idea to make soft serve ice cream their fro-yo way. When I came towards Somisomi, I could've sworn that I saw a long line, but upon close inspection, that was just a different business before it. Customization in Somisomi was the best so that I get to choose what flavor I like. If only the cashier shall accept cash the next time I get to visit.

Yelp
Never heard of this place, just happened to stumble upon this on my Sunday walk in the city. Gave this is try and it was worth it. I love their Ube flavor. Staff were nice too and the service was fast. Love the clean and minimalist ambiance.

Yelp
Somisomi is a classic, happy they opened one in SF even though the area is a bit out of the way for most of the city. There's no seating inside, just standing tables. The flavor specials were banana milk and cookies and cream! The taiyaki was crisp and warm, and you get a solid amount of ice cream for $7.
google avatar

Yelp
We were lucky to find someone leaving, and took their meter parking. We were surprised it was only $1 for 30 mins meter parking. Once you get in, there's a machine you can put in your order or use a live cashier. I love that there are 2 options. He gave me suggestions, and I picked ube ice cream and graham cracker crumbs. The macaron was a nice surprised. My friend order Oreo fish cake Togo. What an awesome surprise for $9, because it was huge and came with 5 pieces. I will return to try other flavors. I like there's a water fountain outside. And they were always cleaning when I was there. Service was nice, fast and fresh.

Yelp
Check them out for their daily swirls! I love the matcha ube swirl and enjoy the fast service.

Yelp
Soft serve cookies and cream was so good! The portion sizes are very generous. The employees were very nice, very efficient. Although I will say to be prepared to take your dessert to go, there isn't any seating, but I wouldn't count this against them. Definitely going back when I need a sweet treat.

Yelp
I am a huge fan of Somi Somi and when I saw that there's a store right by Spark Social, I was all excited to order my dessert here. A friend had asked me to pick up 3 taiyakis for her. She asked for ube but unfortunately they only offer taro. The girl who worked here on a Saturday at 4:45pm could use some customer service training. She was not friendly at all, no smile, not inviting. I would rather order from the kiosk pad than interact with her. Overall her tone was unpleasant and she had no patience to explain anything. My friend asked for three but I see you can only order 2 or 5, which personally I think is dumb -- I was looking forward to ordering a soft serve but I was so turned off by the girl's lack of enthusiasm that I decided to take the two taiyakis for my friend and leave. Total price $4.89 The place is very big and it would be nice if they had some seating for people to hang out.

Yelp
Another selection for a sweet treat in the heart of Mission Bay district! I usually don't eat ice cream but if I do it's a taiyaki from Somi Somi. Their ice cream is just the right sweetness, very creamy and taste are not over powering. Plus, the waffle fishy with your choice of filling compliments the ice cream so well. The place itself feels more like a grab-n-go but there's a high table that you can use stand next to and scarf your dessert and head out. The ambiance is simple and convenient. Although, we had to wait a bit to be served, I have to give props to the guy making the taiyakis. He was the only one there and served everyone pretty quickly, definitely not a newb at this craft. Come here if you want a unique take on nice cream with interesting flavors and fillings.

Yelp
I'll never say no to somi somi. I was so excited when they opened nearby. I used to go all of the time in Cupertino. Love love love the matcha soft serve with the taiyaki fish on top. The fish is like a mochi waffle that pairs so perfectly with the creamy soft serve. A must when you're at spark social grabbing food or even after a ballgame at Oracle or Chase center :)

Yelp
We visited around 5:30pm on a Monday night - there were some other customers but no wait and very fast service. The staff was very patient with us and helpful as he explained the different options. I got the Ube Sesame Swirl in an Upside Down Ahboong and my partner got the Ube Swirl in a Cup. I would strongly recommend the Upside Down Ahboong over the regular Ahboong. It will be a lot less mess and you will be able to eat the taiyaki simultaneously with the ice cream more. I loved the taiyaki! It reminded me of a Hong Kong egg waffle in flavour and crisp. I chose Taro filling and didn't loveee it so I would be curious to try Red Bean instead in the future. As for the flavour of the ice cream, I did not enjoy the sesame. I liked the ube but it tasted just like a sweet vanilla and I didn't get much ube flavour. I would be interested in trying their matcha ice cream in the future as well as getting just the taiyaki which they offer 2 for $4.50!

Yelp
Love ice cream. All forms. Even when I'm in San Francisco and it's cold. That's just how I roll. Just finished grabbing a bite across the street at Spark Social. Others I was with wanted Somisomi and they didn't have to twist my arm hard - actually at all. I've been to several locations. This one, like the others - loved my order. See pic. No customer service to speak of. Order. Respond to what toppings you want. Eat/leave. Will say that if I wasn't staying across the street, I'd tell you good luck with parking. No place to sit but I'm figuring you could walk over to Spark Social or Parklab Gardens (across the street) and enjoy your dessert there. No seating at all. Inside or out.

Yelp
CREAMY SOFT SERVE W/ FISH-SHAPED CONES. Stopped by here on my way home from the ballpark, and how convenient to have this spot for some light dessert! AMBIANCE: 4/5. Convenient and clean location located in Mission Bay. Only street parking is available unless you pay or have access to the nearby parking lots or garages. The inside was well-lit and quite empty, not sure if it was near closing or just didn't have much furniture. I assume there just really isn't anywhere to sit and this is more suited for pickup. SERVICE: 4/5. There are options to self-order on a machine or order through a staff up front. Staff tried to get people in and out, but the wait still did take a longer time. FOOD: 5/5. Good selection of flavors, especially love the Asian-inspired ones, and the different toppings available. I got the Ube flavor topped with Biscoff cookie crumbles and strawberry, can't get enough of its creaminess and hint of the Ube in the creamy soft serve. OVERALL: 4/5. Good selection of soft-serve ice cream flavors and toppings, I'd definitely come back for some more of this creamy and light dessert, and even try out the custard taiyakis. If you're craving some sweet treat, I'd consider coming by and trying out Somi Somi!

Yelp
I came here shortly after they opened and I thought this place looked pretty clean immediately. I ordered the banana milk with taiyaki. There wasn't much of a wait or much to say about the customer service. There's no indoor or outdoor seating. I also got a custard and Oreo taiyaki. The soft serve was a bit sweet for me, and same with the Oreo filling. However the custard filling was actually just right in terms of sweetness. My daughter really enjoyed her first ice cream from Somisomi. The rating is more of a 3.8!

Yelp
Was disappointed by my most recent SOMISOMI experience. I've had it multiple times in Cupertino and LA, but somehow my visit to the SF location fell flat. I came by for a quick dessert before seeing the Cirque du Soleil show nearby. It was empty when we came Wed evening around 6:30. I got the milk and black sesame swirl in an upside down ahboong for $6.95. The taiyaki cone was good, but I did NOT like the flavors in the swirl, especially the black sesame. I could barely taste black sesame and instead it was some other weird flavor that didn't taste good. Don't recommend getting the black sesame flavor here. I regret not getting one of the other flavors; I'm sure anything would've been better than the milk/black sesame swirl. Parking is all metered but it's very affordable. I think we only paid 2-3 bucks to park for ~3.5 hours until 10 pm, when parking becomes free.

Yelp
One of my favorite desserts to get, both taiyaki or ahboong soft serve ice cream. Always smells wonderful, like waffles when walking in. Ordered at the tablet: upside down ahboong ($6.95), and 5 taiyaki ($8.95; you can choose up to 5 flavors). I was able to watch the taiyaki being made. Shoutout to the one employee for being so quick, a lot of orders quickly came and she got them out quickly as well while maintaining her composure. The taiyaki was so crunchy, super delicious, definitely could eat all 5 in one sitting, but I'm watching my diet haha! For the ahboong, I got it filled with custard and a matcha soft serve with a macaroon topper, fruity pebbles, and matcha powder. Wasn't too sweet either which I like about Asian types of desserts. So many different combos of ahboongs flavors to satisfy anyone cravings. In addition to the restroom, there is extra sink outside to wash sticky hands, etc. The water cups are quite small, but it works. Overall, I will be coming back and also checking out other Somi Somi locations too!

Yelp
Very glad we have this place in mission bay. Quick to order off a tablet or from the counter, lots of delicious choices for fillings and ice cream flavors, and super fast service. It's great to get some treats here in the evening after dinner at Cavaña or before wandering down to the waterfront on a sunny afternoon. The soft serve is great, and so are the classic taiyaki fillings. Going to be coming back all summer...and all winter.

Yelp
My friend convinced me to try Somi Somi's soft-serve ice cream, I thought, 'Why not?' It turned out to be a new favorite spot. This place is known for its unique and delicious Korean-inspired soft-serve ice cream. They are particularly famous for their Taiyaki ice cream, which features soft-serve ice cream filled in fish-shaped waffle cones. I opted for the Ube flavor, served with the adorable fish-shaped waffle cone stuffed with Nutella. I couldn't believe my taste buds thought! it was like a purple dream come true!! As for my friend, she went for the cookies and cream flavor, and it disappeared faster than a scoop at a summer fair. No complaints from her, that's for sure! Somi Somi's ambiance is as sweet as their treats, with a clean and inviting atmosphere. The service was friendly, which is always a bonus in my books! So, if you find yourself in San Francisco on a hot day or simply craving a chilly delight, Somi Somi is the spot to check out. I'll be coming back to check out other flavors!

Yelp
This place gets super packed! I felt bad for the girl that was doing register and making the taiyaki-icecream. Management should probably work on that cause there was atleast 10 people waiting. Plus that's super stressful for the workers... but We all got a cup cause we had to be in and out but it was sooo good! It was pretty clean in there and the restroom was nice as well.
google avatar

Shela H.

Yelp
Ordered two custard taiyaki but received one of them broken... with most of the filling gone... It was especially awkward because I saw the staff pick up the taiyaki piece with everything oozing out and she just proceeded to put it in the box and give it to me. I honestly wouldn't have minded waiting for a new one; there was just one group after me so pretty slow no rush on orders. I used to frequent SomiSomi a lot in SoCal, so I was really happy to have a branch so close by but the quality here is just a bit unfortunate. Oh well, will just have to go to the San Mateo one.
google avatar

Naomi Y.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for some light Asian soft serve ice cream, this is the spot for you! The flavors are delicious and their daily swirls vary. This time, I got the Milk & Ube swirl and it was delish. I've gotten the Ube and black sesame and that flavor is probably my fave. You have the option for toppings which include cereals and sprinkles too! I got the Matcha powder and Biscoff cookie crumble. So yummy! Staff was sweet and they we're experiencing some technical issues with the screen since the flavors weren't up to date. But overall, the line went quickly and the inside was clean. The only downside is that there's nowhere to sit.
google avatar

Steven O.

Yelp
I love somisomi and I'm not afraid to admit it. I tend to discount overly hyped trendy dessert shops but the soft serve alone is worth the trip. It's the perfect amount of creamy and there are always interesting Asian inspired flavors. Today I got the milk tea + ube blend. It also came with complimentary toppings. In the past, I've also gotten the taiyaki and enjoyed both the custard and cheddar fillings.
google avatar

Yelp
Somi Somi in Mission Bay offers a seamless checkout experience, making it convenient to indulge in their delightful treats. They serve a special dessert known as Ah-Boong: a fish-shaped Taiyaki waffle cone filled with your choice of filling and topped with soft serve. I tried the milk and chocolate ice cream in a cone with Nutella, and it was a deliciously satisfying combination. They added Oreo sprinkles and a strawberry flavored macaroon. The flavors were rich, and the texture of the soft serve was perfect. Macaroon was chewy but the overall experience was enjoyable. Note- The soft serve melts really fast, so make sure to bring plenty of napkins! Street parking is available outside the store. It was busy even at 9pm. The store was clean and servers were great. I recommend!
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
unfortunately I didn't like the banana soft serve because I'm not a fan of banana-flavored things but I liked the matcha custard taiyaki and I'm sure I'd enjoy the other flavors
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to Somi Somi multiple times, and it's always pretty solid. Today, I ordered just the taiyaki, and tried a couple of new flavors that I've never tried before. I got the Taro taiyaki as well as the Oreo taiyaki. The Taro taiyaki was quite good, but I prefer the red bean. The oreo taiyaki was interesting, but I probably would not get this one again. The taiyaki was fresh, hot, and crispy (made to order), as expected of Somi Somi. Honestly, probably should have gotten soft serve, as it would have paired pretty well with the taiyaki -- i found the Oreo taiyaki pretty dry. The cafe is in a nice location in Mission Bay, where things are pretty quiet. It wasn't that difficult to find parking, as we parked directly across the street. They offer free water, but the water cups are *very* tiny. They are pretty much the mouthwash cups you might find at restaurants. Additionally, this place provides no seating, with all the dining area requiring you to stand up. I don't come here often, but I'd consider coming back for sure. I still need to try the cheddar taiyaki after all -- it sounds pretty interesting.
google avatar

Erica K.

Yelp
SomiSomi is so cute, yummy, and the weekly swirl combinations are paired well! I ordered an upside down red bean filled ahboong style with the swirl of the week: Matcha and Black Sesame topped with sprinkles and coconut flakes. Being so close to Spark Social and apartments, this business attracts a lot of families with kids and has spacious room, however there's literally only one kiosk to place an order. I wish they had one more kiosk because it would make the ordering process more efficient and less dreadful. Some like change, however if you find a swirl combination you like, there's a chance it won't be there next week and even flavors such as black sesame and matcha could be stronger. Make sure to order all the unlimited toppings you want and decide between a strawberry or macaron because at $6.95 you pay for what you order!
google avatar

Vicky L.

Yelp
Yo it's dangerous having SomiSomi so close to my office. Who could resist kawaii lookin' soft serve?! Most days they have 6 flavors to choose from and 3 swirl flavaflavs. Flavors rotate weekly fyi. They offer matcha, black sesame, ube, milk and many more. The last time I went they only had 3 flavors (guava, mango and ube). Unfortunately, you can't sample them, so choose wisely. You can order from a human or you can place it through their kiosk. Choose how you want; cup, fish cone or cup with a fish cone on top (how I like mine). Subsequently, you'll pick your soft serve flav and desired filling (custard, red bean, nutella, etc). Once the workers whip up your order, they'll call your name and ask if you want to garnish your ice cream with more calories such as, sprinkles, oreos, biscoff crumbles and either a macaron cookie or a strawberb (if you want some nutritional value). I'd had their black sesame, matcha, coffee and guava/mango swirl. With fillings of either nutella or red bean. Their soft serve has good flavor and nice creamy consistency. I highly recommend the matcha and black sesame! On my list to try next are the cookies n cream, milk and milk tea. The taiyaki fish is crispy and slightly chewy and the filling is a perfect way to finish things off! The soft serve and fish freezes pretty well if you can't finish it right away. I've gotten Somi during some lunch breaks and couldn't finish it because I was full so I popped it in the fridge and came back to it 3 hours later. I tried their taiyaki with custard filling during their soft opening promo and it was delicious. Nice and crispy with a smooth and tasty custard filling. There's no seating but long tables are available get in your foodie pics and nom up your treat while standing. Bonus is they have an area to wash up at which is so convenient! They also have a restroom as well for those lactose peeps! Overall, great place to get a cool treat. Quick service and reasonably priced. They're located across from Spark Social and Blue Bottle coffee. So glad they're in Mission Bay!

Yelp
This soft serve ice cream is so good!! We come here all the time, the flavors are so good, it is so creamy and the toppings and tayaki cones are good!

Yelp
Can I have Somi Somi everyday and not get fat? I tried in LA and didn't remembering liking it too much. My friends lived closed by and they go all the time but it was my first time since they opened. The fish cones are made ahead of time but the fish pancakes are made to order. I was thinking, since the fish cones are made before hand, it might not be good or crunchy but it was. It was so good I ate it all. As for the soft serve, I got the mix ube and milk. So good and refreshing even on a cold SF night. I clean off the whole up before I got home. They also asked if you want toppings, I added graham crackers and cookies pieces. It was the perfect touch to my soft serve. I asked my friend if we can go on a weekly biases? Might have to run extra miles per week now.
google avatar

Lily T.

Yelp
I'm so sad they closed the Somi somi in Hawaii but glad I was able to go again! The taiyaki is always crispy and perfect and the soft serve is so smooth and creamy. I got the oreo and ube swirl and also tried the red bean and matcha. They were all so good I had a hard time choosing! I ended up getting 5 taiyakis to take home and they were still delicious the next day in the air fryer! The store itself is clean and the service was great. They were really patient and let us sample every flavor. Super happy to be living near one again soon!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here 10minutes before they closed and was just going to get yogurt but the employees were so nice and made me an order with no issues at all. I really appreciated that ! We got the 2 twists and a 5pack of fishies. Nutella, Oreo, taro, and custard flavors. The fishies were super crunchy on the outside and ooey goey on the inside! Be careful tho because those things are pretty big haha Honestly everything came out deliciously ! I cNt wait to try the other options they had on my next visit !

Yelp
Really good place with some really nice snack food. Has a cute atmosphere and I recommend for a casual date or to go with friends.

Yelp
Always hits the spot if you're craving a light dessert to share. We love coming here for an after dinner stroll and snack. Today we opted for the black sesame soft serve with a custard taiyaki shell. The texture is always dreamy smooth and the sesame flavor was pretty good. You even get to customize the toppings you want, we went with biscoff crumbles and a strawberry. Just a note there is a area to eat but it consists of standing tables and is more of a counter space. However they do have self serve water which is always nice. All the staff was super patient with us as we couldn't decide which toppings to get. Will be back for more dessert :)

Yelp
So glad I didn't get ice cream at spark social and was steered into trying this soft serve ice cream spot instead that was just within a few minutes of walking distance -I got the upside down ahbong which is basically your choice of soft serve in a cup topped off with your choice of toppings and taiyaki (fish shaped pancake). I def preferred this option because I can take my time with this dessert on a hot day without worrying about the melting mess. The price point was also good at $6.95 for such a large dessert with many topping options -the soft serve itself was light and airy with the right level of sweetness. I liked how they had swirled options where you get to pick a blend of 2 flavors. Perfect for when I'm indecisive! I got the milk and sesame blend and it was so goood. The blends on the menu were not up to date but it wasn't an issue as the employee was kind enough to explain the blended options for that day Would definitely come back here if I'm in the Mission Bay Area craving a light dessert

Yelp
I love ordering at kiosks. Also the flavors are unique and tastes delish. I love the hazelnut filled fish!

Yelp
I recently read a 3 star review for another SomiSomi location where the yelper was disappointed that the Bungeoppang aka Taiyaki didn't taste like fish. What the what? I hope they're being sarcastic... Because can you imagine the cooch smells coming out of the waffle irons?! OOOF. SomiSomi is a SoCal based Korean dessert chain best known for their photogenic soft serve in a fish shaped waffle cone. They're my fav AZN dessert chain so I'm bummed about my two visits at their new SF location. Maybe it's opening kinks but IMO, the soft serve and taiyaki are not up to the SomiSomi standards that I'm used to (I regularly visit the Cupertino location). Or, maybe I'm visiting on off days. The new SomiSomi location in the city is at the corner of Spark Social and Parklab Gardens. Swirling skills could use improvement. * Bungeoppang aka Taiyaki: Fish shaped pastry with filling (5 pc - $8.95): https://tinyurl.com/s2758xtf Tip: Don't close the lid on the box, otherwise you'll end up with soggy taiyaki. Heat up leftovers in the toaster oven or air fryer. --Nutella: Can never go wrong with nutella! --Cheddar: Reminds me of a grilled cheese sandwich with oozy cheese. --Taro: Like sweet potato paste. --Custard: Off, gloopy texture. First visit: It seems the waffle iron wasn't hot enough because the exterior wasn't as crunchy. Also, could have a better ratio of filling to batter. Second visit: The batter was so dry and cardboard-like with no chew. The tail portion is supposed to have this deliciously chewy, QQ mochi center but all the taiyaki tails were hollow and not sealed. S E R V I C E Cordial and fast. Surprisingly, there was no line on the early evenings I visited. A M B I A N C E Minimalist and bright. Standing tables only; no seating. Restroom available. P A R K I N G Extremely difficult parking esp on event days. Parking meters in the area run to 10 pm. Overall, pretty disappointed in this SomiSomi location but maybe I visited on off days. They've only been open for a month so I'm hopeful they'll smooth out the kinks with more training.

Yelp
Impromptu mid-workday dessert - what a treat! Orders are placed on self-order kiosks and we got our orders pretty fast. So good to see SomiSomi has made its way to San Francisco! On my visit, I had the ube and matcha swirl soft serve in a custard filled upside down ahboong. While the flavors weren't particularly strong, I still enjoyed the smooth consistency of the soft serve. And for $6.95, not a bad deal! You can add your choice of toppings and select from a cookie or strawberry to top it all off. Biscoff crumble and coconut flakes were my selection, which turned out to be great complements. The cookie (or mini macaroon), on the other hand, was not that great. Dense and too sweet. My other complaint is that their taiyakis/ahboongs can be crunchier for that extra texture surprise - mine was cold and pretty soft.

Yelp
I was SO happy to see this in San Mateo!! We came in after a movie and the worker told us that the majority of their ice cream is lactose free, what a win. They were so nice, asking if we've been to their other locations as well as giving us their recommendations. They kept the basic blueprint of the space if you remembered what it looked like when it was CREAM, but this and their vibe is definitely so much better. Excited to try all of their flavors & flavor combinations :) My order: Cookies & Cream ice cream with a macaron cookie, biscoff and oreo crumbs, and a nutella filled taiyaki - I think we overdid it a little with the toppings but it was beyond worth!! Definitely 1-2 people dessert, it was perfect to share with your date.

Yelp
Wow! Happy to see a SomiSomi open in San Francisco! Those who have had Uji Time in Japantown, it's the same idea. You can choose your choice of soft serve ice cream and have it in a taiyaki waffle. You can choose a variety of filling (red bean, custard, taro, Nutella, etc) for your taiyaki and toppings on your ice cream. I ordered matcha and cookies & cream while my friend ordered the black sesame and milk flavored. Both were really good! It was hard to choose what flavor to get. There are no options for samples in this location. You order on a self serve tablet kiosk and the service is pretty quick. I feel this is store is a nice addition to the Mission Bay district.

Yelp
So delicious and the service is so quick. The ambience is very chill but it can get crowded and small. Love the mochi waffle texture!

Yelp
Food was great! All was serviced by 1 person. Big shout out to her! All by her lonesome she was able to service close to 50. Here is my complaint....why is there only 1 person? She's literally doing everything and has not stopped since we entered the store. I want to tip her but does it do directly to just her? She was the hero of the night. Would suggest that the business see in giving her a hand especially after a warrior game.

Yelp
Based on previous reviews, it looks like your experience may vary depending on whether you're visiting during peak hours . My experience was only positive, albeit we also visited SomiSomi to take shelter from rain and on a Tuesday evening so the store was completely empty asides from the single employee manning the front. Consequently, service was really quick and straightforward and although there was no wait, we really would not have minded. Interior was clean and warm with an available bathroom. As for the food!! So many flavors of taiyaki! Grabbed a box of 5 ($8.95) with taro, hotteok, custard, chedder, fresh off the griddle and the batter was wonderfully crispy and chewy. The flavors were really distinct, not too sweet, with a perfect ratio of batter to filling. My friend grabbed the ube upsidedown ahboong and the soft serve was as creamy as I remember although the flavor was a bit faint.

Yelp
I normally find ice cream, soft serve, gelato, and froyo places overrated and overpriced. That's why I prefer to get a few pints of Talenti or Jeni's for the price of two cones. As soon as I took a spoonful of this matcha soft serve with toasted coconut however, my first thought was "wow, this is worth it." The ah boong is freshly made and hand filled on the spot. I went with the ube, which, for me, is the natural corollary to matcha. The matcha ranks in my top 3 all time favorites. The ah boong had the perfect level of softness and structure. The toasted coconut was surprisingly on point. And the Graham cracker added some nice textural contrast. I could've gone without the macaroon and will go with the strawberry for my next order. The space fills up quickly and there are a few countertops to enjoy the soft serve. There's also a place to wash your hands which I very much appreciated. This place is worth it.

Yelp
Summary: Sweet! Unfortunately so. Details: * My disappointment is immeasurable: I waited throughout COVID for SomiSomi, seeing them tease us with the sign years ago, only for them to finally open and discover that their soft serve is (now?) too sweet for my tastes * Soft serve flavors aren't as pronounced as I'd like (compare to the matcha at Maiko, for example), but are still noticeable, and not artificial tasting at least * Texture is pretty nice and creamy, at least * Having never tried the ones in SoCal, I don't have a great comparison point, but other friends I ran into during my visit said the ones down South are actually tastier Accessibility: Long-ish lines aside, the layout of the place is pretty spacious, so accessibility shouldn't be a huge issue. That said, getting out the door with a precariously situated soft serve might be a little tricky since they don't have an automated opener afaict.

Yelp
I stopped by on opening night and it was packed - fortunately, the line moved fairly quickly and we got our ahbongs after about 15 minutes. I ordered an upside down ahboong, which is a stuffed taiyaki with softserve in a cup. The taiyaki is essentially a fish-shaped waffle with stuffing (we ordered taro) and we ordered it with ube softserve (keeping it purple). The taiyaki was nice and crisp, and stuffing and softserve were very tasty. We topped off the ahboon with fruity pebbles and a macroon. Very pretty! Since it was opening weekend, our order came with a free taiyaki - I'm not sure what flavor it was, but the stuffing seemed slightly savory, so I suspect it was cheddar.

Yelp
The first time I had SomiSomi was in Hawaii, and I didn't realize it was a chain. I'm so happy we finally got a location in SF! Love that most of the soft serve flavors are dairy free. And the taiyaki/fillings are so tasty! Service is friendly and fairly quick. I also like that you can have unlimited toppings. My only wish is that you could select a smaller serving size because they give you A LOT of soft serve. The place is big enough for a small line to form but not really big enough to eat inside. Luckily, they're across the street from Spark Social, so there are plenty of spots to eat nearby. My favorite soft serve flavor is ube. I really like the taro and custard filling in the taiyaki. But everything is delicious.

Yelp
I finally made it to SomiSomi and it lived up to the hype. Most definitely try it as soon as you can! I came here on a Friday evening and there was barely any line. However, I ran into two friends who were waiting for their order and while we were chatting the line grew through the door Luckily it was moving super quickly. The cashier was friendly and efficient. I ordered an upside down ahboong with an ube and black sesame soft serve swirl and with taro filling. To top it off, I selected matcha powder and Oreo crumble as toppings and a side of macaron. While the macaron was a bit on the chewy side, the rest of it was A+. I loved how it wasn't too sweet, yet fully fulfilled my dessert cravings. The ube and black sesame balanced each other perfectly. The taro filling had a really rich texture and was a great surprise inside the waffle cone. The cone itself was probably the sweetest component, which worked out perfectly with the other flavors. I'll definitely return for some more
