Goog - Review - Red Hook - New York - The Infatuation

"Goog in Red Hook is never too crowded, so you can pretty easily walk in with a group for some post-Ikea pad see ew, or after some bar-hopping down Van Brunt Street. The Thai street food-inspired spot has a bunch of small plates you should start with, like the crispy golden shrimp cakes and the massaman roti. Then, move on to that pad see ew, or kua kling, and always the coconutty crab curry with rice noodles. Everything is solid—and there’s no other Thai food in the neighborhood—but the real star here is the plant-filled backyard. It looks like a secret garden where you will feel compelled to order a bottle of wine and stay awhile, and in the summer months servers always have bug spray at the ready." - Willa Moore

Where to Eat in Red Hook Right Now

"Isan-style Thai fare is the focus of this Red Hook spot (the restaurant also has an East Village sibling). Go for the papaya salad with salted eggs, grilled marinated pork, or deep-fried chicken thighs. There’s an outdoor area for warm-weather dining." - Eater Staff

NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"Somtum Der, a Thai restaurant from Bangkok, pivoted their Red Hook location (the East Village location is still kicking) from their high-scoville Esan cooking to Goog, which will serve sweeter dishes inspired by homestyle Bangkok food. They currently also have a $17 entree plus drink lunch special." - will hartman

Where To Eat Outside In Red Hook

"Whether it be takeout, delivery, or outdoor dining, the Red Hook location of Somtum Der is where you should be eating Thai food in the area. If you want some extra motivation to eat here, be aware that they have a beautiful back patio that’s currently open for outdoor dining on Van Brunt Street. You can book a reservation online ahead of time to guarantee yourself some papaya salad with salted egg, pork larb, and sticky rice." - hannah albertine

The Secret Patios Of NYC

"The Red Hook location of Somtum Der has a significant advantage over its East Village counterpart: a backyard. Their patio is currently open for outdoor dining, and you can book a reservation online ahead of time to guarantee yourself some somtum with salted egg, pork larb, and sticky rice." - hannah albertine
