LA’s New Restaurant Openings

"Long Beach residents no longer have to drive far for Sonoratown’s smoky grilled asada because this Sonoran-style taquería is growing. Their new restaurant in downtown Long Beach is the most spacious of the three locations, with ample indoor and patio seating. Expect the usual collection of tacos, loaded caramelos, and chivichangas made with chewy, housemade flour tortillas. " - sylvio martins

This place has awesome vibes and great food! The tortillas de harina have a subtle, delicate flavor which wraps around the perfectly assembled ingredients. One of my favorites is the bean and cheese burrito for its simplicity. The aguas frescas are some of the best I’ve had at taco places. The decor is eclectic and creative. The place is clean and inviting. Lastly the customer service was superb, attentive and efficient staff.

Sonoratown is such a unique spot! Everything is delicious, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, all the salsas. The meats have amazing flavors. The fresh waters are delicious. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Service was fast and thia location is nice and clean. The decor is beautiful, and the story behind Sonoratown is lovely.

Literally the cutest taco spot I have ever been to! The aesthetic was so perfect! I wanted to take so many selfies inside! And the food?!?!!! It was like I was eating tacos in mexico. What drew me to it is that they put “col” or cabbage i guess on the tacos and that’s my fave way to have my tacos when im in mexico! It was so delicious and salsas were spicy which I LOVE! I had been wanting to try these tacos and I’m happy it didn’t disappoint!

This place… was seriously so good…. I ordered a beef chivi, costilla caramelo, and a cabeza burrito. The beef chivi’s filling had a luscious curry texture from the slow roasted tender meat, the rich spices, and the melty cheese. I added a roasted pepper to my caramelo which gave it such a nice open flame smoky flavor. And the cabeza meat in the burrito was soooo good. It includes a texture of fatty and melty tendon meat which I really love that contrasts with the chunky meat. And something about a spring onion with grill marks that’s just so iconic. I think what really sets this place apart from other joints I’ve been to is how they treat their meat - there’s really some secret spice and deep flavor to the meat accompanied by your usual burrito pairings. The salsa in the burrito also adds a nice heat. Unfortunately I gobbled down my food too quickly to find out - a question to ponder on for next time. I have to also say even though service was fast-paced they were also super attentive. This is a highly recommend.

Tacos are good, but nothing crazy. Though I love the flour tortilla flavor, the meat isn't really wow. The menu specified costilla de res and when I ate my tacos, they tasted like regular asada, not costilla. The Coconut horchata and strawberry agua have a good flavor.

Sonoratown is the real deal. We ordered the Lorenza, Caramelo, Chivichanga, and tacos, and everything was solid. My favorite was the Chivichanga—it’s like a chimichanga, only better. Packed with flavor, it just hit the spot. The cabeza was insanely good, super tender, and full of rich, savory goodness. The service was just as great. The worker who took our order was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, which made the experience even better. Can’t wait to go back!

Google
We stopped by Sonoratown while visiting Long Beach for a long weekend. The service was excellent! They were so nice and answered any questions we had. The food was also great. If you order a large chips and salsa, they give you an entire bag of chips, which we devoured!

What is the big deal about this place….Well, I’ll tell you :) The food is top notch delish! I ordered the Costilla Burrito 2.0 and two tacos, one with CHORIZO and the other with TRIPA along with a Victoria Beer. The food was very flavorful and totally made fresh… and of course the beer was refreshing lol I ordered extra of the non spicy green sauce which I think was a cilantro guacamole sauce, and loved it. To be honest I didn’t end up using the sauces because my food was so good without any already. The service was just great. Immediately greeted and helped. Since it was my first visit I did have a few questions and the young man working the register was so helpful, he didn’t mind answering my questions along with giving me his best recommendations. I wish I would have remembered his name because it’s great employees like him that will keep that customers coming back. I’m such a supporter of this restaurant, I’ll definitely be a returning customer and will be brining my family and friends to try. Ohhhh and I’ll also be rocking my Sonoratown TeeShirt around LB, yes I bought a Tee to support them and you should too! If you’re in the LB area I recommend this spot, pick Me up and I’ll join you ;) Street meter parking is available and I also know the parking lot up the street also offer 2 hours free parking #YoureWelcome Enjoy!

Yelp
Had my first Chivi.... It was amazing. Of course the tacos were off the charts. And I could not go home without some flour tortillas, simply divine and delicious!

Yelp
We are divided tortilla house - I'm a devoted corn tortilla gal, while S prefers flour. When buying tortillas to have taco night at home, we get a pack of corn for me and a pack of flour for him. The flour tortilla at Sonoratown is SO delicious that I'm willing to make an exception. I got their costilla (grilled steak) burrito 2.0 and it is so so good. And I don't normally like burritos either! The portion size isn't huge as I could almost polish an entire burrito by myself. Food comes out fast! Once upon a time, we went to their DTLA location. The food was solid but logistically just such a hassle getting there, challenging parking, and tiny interior. This LB location is perfect! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, clean bathrooms, and easy parking! There is public parking lot across the street for 2 hours free parking (look up - City Place Lot C).

Yelp
Soronatown - A Must-Try for Sonora-Style Tortillas in Long Beach! If you love authentic Sonora-style tortillas, this is the place to be! These flour tortillas are everything they should be--large, thin, stretchy, and with a slightly sweet flavor that makes them stand out. All tacos come topped with fresh cabbage, spicy chile de árbol salsa, avocado salsa, and are garnished with sliced radish and lime. I ordered the tripa taco, which was perfectly crispy and not greasy at all, and the steak taco, which was incredibly flavorful--a solid 10/10! I also tried the Chivichanga, a small burrito wrapped in a homemade flour tortilla and filled with shredded beef (or chicken), simmered with tomatoes, Anaheim chile, jack, and cheddar cheese. It was packed with flavor and the tortilla was just amazing. To drink, I had the coconut horchata--absolutely refreshing and another 10/10. All of their salsas and condiments were bursting with flavor. I even bought a pack of their specialty tortillas and a bottle of their signature hot sauce to take home! The staff was friendly, the service was quick, and the prices were reasonable. Parking is convenient, with a nearby structure and street parking available. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area, and I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for authentic, high-quality Mexican food!

Yelp
Ambiant and solid spot but just not vegetarian friendly. There are 2 veggie options and we got the corn tostada (since their flour tortillas have lard). The tostada was good - tasted very authentic but the serving size is tiny. I think this place has options for non vegetarians but was a miss for us. The hostess was friendly and was kind enough to let us know about the tortillas which I appreciate.

Yelp
Long Beach is soooo happy to have Sonoratown join the neighborhood! We can't get enough of the soft flour tortillas. A couple unique and outstanding items they offer are the Caramelo and Lorenza. The Caramelo includes their large flour tortillas to cradle beans, cheese, avocado, cabbage, salsa, your choice of meat and a grilled poblano chile for an extra $1.25, which is worth it! It's like a loaded quesadilla, very hearty and filling. The Lorenza consists of a crispy corn tortilla topped with baked cheese, choice of meat, avocado, salsa and cabbage. It's like a tostada, but the crispy cheese and tortilla with fresh ingredients make this small-ish handheld so scrumptious. As for the meat, I imagine everything is delicious, but I usually get the costilla (grilled steak) or the cabeza (head) and they have been so tender, smoky and juicy. I'm in love with their hottest salsa, the chiltepín. I don't care that it's .50 cents. Worth every penny! I also enjoyed the horchata they make in-house. I believe they use coconut milk. It's creamy and not too sweet! Plenty of tables inside and there are a few tables in their front patio. Super casual, pay at the register setting. Friendly and fast service!

Yelp
I've heard around town that this is the best Mexican food in Long Beach -- y'all they weren't lying! I left feeling hella hella satisfied. I can't wait to go back. This is my new go-to spot! I've finally found a place that is giving San Francisco Mission Burrito quality vibes! Food -- handmade flour tortillas y'all! the Caramelo left me wanting another one. The meat (costilla) was tender and had a really good taste from the mesquite woodfire. All the flavors went really well together and it was juicy, crunchy, soft all at the same time. The Lorenza with chorizo wasn't greasy at all -- savory, crunch, spicy. Very similar to a volcán at a taco stand. The vibes were vibing! Good music, cultural decor, bright colors everywhere, taco books to peruse, history about the space to read while in line. Quality service, super fast but also really nice and answered all my questions and offered good options for my first time. They even bring you your food to your table! Parking -- it's DTLB so not a ton of street parking but plenty of nearby parking structures that are free the first 2 hours. One is across the street!

Yelp
We wanted to try a little different flavor yet couldn't be outside in the cold and rain waiting for our order. Luckily these folks were open until 10p so it gave us ample opportunity to try a couple of quesadillas and tacos. Quesadillas are two small tortillas stuffed with meat so for some of us it may be different than what we are used to. Have no fear the flavor is powerful and impossible to miss. The spicy sauce is spicy but in a great way. The staff there are helpful and friendly which is always nice when you're trying something for the first time. You'll love the bright environment they've built

Yelp
There is no shortage of amazing taco spots in Long Beach and Sonoratown is one of them. The item that I will be coming back for that I can't get anywhere else in the Cabeza Lorenza. The serving size is generous, the meat is perfectly cooked, and the hot sauces are delicious. Service is quick and friendly. Stop by here to kick off or end your DTLB bar crawl.

Yelp
So, so, so fire! I've been a fan of their LA location and I feel so fortunate to now have one closer to me. The tortillas are what make it. They're so fresh and chewy and you can even purchase them to take home. The menu is streamlined but has just enough offerings. I always order the Burrito 2.0 with costilla although you can also choose from pollo, chorizo, cabeza, tripa and poblano chile with pinto beans. While it's a bit of a bummer that you have to pay for a side of their avocado salsa, it's worth it. I also wish the burritos were a little bit bigger. If you're not that hungry you'll be fine but otherwise you may want to add one more item. The bean and cheese burrito is an extra tasty option and only costs $4. They also offer to-go packs for gatherings at a fair price.

Yelp
Came here again yesterday to bring my aunt (who is from same town as owner) and the food was good per usual. The place was emptier than I expected. The cashier was had great customer service. When we got out food I asked server if I could get a chiltepin salsa which is their spicy salsa, she responded that it would be 50 cents and I said ok that's fine and she walked away. So I was waiting to see if she ever returned and awhile after I asked her if I needed to make line and order the salsa or if she could just bring it and she said yes I needed to order since cashier was needed to pay. Wish that would've been communicated so I wouldn't have been waiting. I finally got my salsa and I asked if it came with the tacos and she said no only the burritos, so if I ordered 3 tacos that didn't have this salsa, I kinda don't get why I can't get this spicy salsa without it being xtra? Doesn't make sense to me, doesn't every other taco place give a spicy salsa when asked if it's not extra? Anyway, I can't eat my tacos without having any restaurants version of their spicy salsa. Like I said food is great but since I'm a spicy lover the whole ordeal with trying to get a serving of their chiltepin salsa didn't sit right with me. Update*** Received a msg from the owner who explained to me why the chiltepin salsa isn't included in the tacos etc and it makes sense. I appreciate the communication from them and hopefully others can get an explanation from staff. By the way if you haven't tried the chiltepin salsa you need to try it! It's amazing if you like spicy. Overall this continues to be my go-to place for Sonora style tacos (which are hard to find) without having to cross the border. Much love y arriba San Luis Rio Colorado Sonora.

Yelp
I had a day off work, so I wanted to grab a great lunch and my friend recommended Sonoratown. She was right. I got the Burrito 2.0 with costilla. They are not large burritos, but they have big taste. My favorite burritos are bean and cheese burritos they make these cute little $4 burritos. I picked up a few of those. If you like to make burritos at home, take home the large pack of tortillas. I love Sonoratown and I will be making the 25 minute drive across town for their burritos. Note: 2 hours free parking at the structure.

Yelp
Sonoratown is one of my favorite places for tacos and we are lucky to have a location in Long Beach. I'm writing this update to my review because of two reasons. First, Sonoratown was ranked #23 on the LA Times' list of the top 101 restaurants in LA in 2024. Second, they are now open from 11a-4p, Sun-Th and till 10p on fri/sat! There are many reasons you should consider dropping by this location for an outstanding taco: 1) Their tacos and burritos are known for their homemade flour tortillas with flour that is imported from Sonora, MX. Well-made tortillas are an underrated component for an epic taco. My wife and I often get a bean and cheese burrito to go in order to appreciate the amazing simplicity of a quality tortilla with bean and cheese. If you add a grilled poblano for a little bit extra, I think it makes it awesome! 2) Their taco meats are excellent. If you get costilla (rib meat), you get the unmistakable flavor of charcoal grilled meat. If you get their cabeza (head/face meat), then you can enjoy fatty/stewed meat in a warm tortilla. Their tripas (tripe/intestine) is challenging to some, but it has a crispy texture reminiscent of corn nuts. Costilla is definitely my favorite; however, I dare you to get one of each of these tacos to enjoy their different textures and flavors. 3) The parking across the street in the Harvey Milk Community lot is free for 2 hours. Parking is the biggest deterrent for some of the best spots in LB, but these tacos are in a very accessible location that's a mile from the beach. We are lucky to have access to some of LA's best tacos locally in LBC (Sonoratown, Angel's Tijuana Tacos, Leo's Tacos, Joliza's Tacos, Guisados, Tacos La Carreta). Even more outstanding is that many of these taco places represent flavors from different regions of Mexico. Support your local taqueria as we are blessed to have some great places to choose from!

Yelp
Long Beach definitely has its fair share of Mexican restaurants, so where is there room for another? Well off 3rd and Long Beach Blvd, but even more than the location, there is room for this unique mexican restaurant and how it prepares food. There is metered street parking and parking structures nearby, so there is no issue finding parking in Downtown Long Beach to visit places. It is a great location close to a lot of other shops and people walking around. Not too hard to miss with their colorful Sonoratown logo and good looking storefront. I love that they have outdoor seating as well. It is all very mexican and welcoming in a "mi casa es su casa" way. What stood out to me was the flavor of the food and how it is served. A little history of the restaurant owners: they are mexican and have many years of experience and bring a combination of flavors of Mexico and the adaptation of flavors of Downtown Los Angeles. The restaurant serves tacos in the style of San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora--a part of Northern Mexico known for having the most delicious carne asada--cooked over mesquite wood fire--and also for truly excellent handmade flour tortillas. I ordered the Burrito 2.0, costilla style with grilled steak, guacamole, Monterey Jack cheese, pinto beans, and chiltepin salsa. I have to say this tortilla is next level. it has grill marks and a special grilled flavor i havent tasted at other mexican restaurants. This just adds to the already superb flavor of the ingredients inside the burrito. Pour salsa on burrito, take a huge bite, and repeat. The dish came with a side of grilled spring onions. I also ordered a side of chips and salsa to add to the texture of my meal, and ordered an horchata, and if I am not mistaken, it had a slight taste of coconut to it. Horchata is very good to cut the spicyness of salsa and adds that little bit of sweetness to the savory meal. I was very impressed with the ambiance, location, menu, flavorful food, and the style and preparation of the food at this restaurant. Besides burritos, they also have tacos, quesadilla, and chivicangas and your choice of filling from costilla grilled steak, pollo chicken, chorizo sonoran-style pork sausage, cabeza braised beef head, Tripa beef intestine, and Poblano Chile & pinto beans. They also have a nice selection of drinks from Horcatas to Agua Frescas to Mexican Sodas. They also have Mexican beer and micheladas. A little bit of Mexico for everyone. Go check it out and ! Buen Provecho !

Yelp
First time coming here for a date night with my husband. We ordered the quesadilla with cabeza, tacos with tripa, chivichanga chicken and beans & cheese. Fully recommended. The pineapple drink was good, not too sweet. The staff was nice and parking can be tricky. There is a parking structure across, the first 2 hours are free.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday afternoon to give Sonoratown a round 2 after trying their soft opening. There wasn't much of a wait (although, there were plenty of people sitting down in eating). They've definitely shaped up since the soft opening! The inside is super trendy looking and is great to sit down and eat in. The menu is pretty unique from what you might come to expect from a taco shop (especially with the influx of taco trucks in Long Beach). I tried the Burrito 2.0 with carne asada and it was delicious! It's not super huge (still enough for 1 person) but you can taste the quality and how fresh everything is. My favorite part was honestly the flour tortilla--it might be one of the best tortillas I've ever had for a burrito. Perfectly chewy, warm, hefty and soft. Their horchata is also unique as it has coconut in it which gives it a nice extra flavor. I've never tried the original Sonoratown but this place definitely makes me want to go. Glad to see Long Beach have a true taco shop here in the heart of downtown as a brick-and-mortar! Will have to be back to try their other items!

Yelp
Wanted something yummy on a cold day and stumbled across this place. It's a small restaurant with a cute vibe. My husband and I had the burrito with carne asada and the chips and guacamole. All were good, especially for the price which was more than reasonable. The burritos were a little spicy, but I am a spice wuss so take that with a grain of salt.

Yelp
We have a friend from Sonora and he said this as close to the style of his hometown as he had ever tasted. The tortillas are amazing and what really make these menu items. Outside of that, the fillings weren't all that. Somewhat bland at times, or at least that is based on my preferences. My friend from this region of Mexico was definitely more impressed. All in all, a great meal though. Service was fast and friendly and prices were not outrageous. PRO TIP: Come early if you are trying to buy tortillas to go. They can run out fairly early in the day.

Yelp
I was psyched to see that Sonoratown opened a branch in Long Beach! I've been missing them ever since I moved out of LA. The new spot is absolutely beautiful, set in a historic building with super high ceilings, skylight and exposed brick wall. We ordered their burrito 2.0, chivichanga and caramelo, all with chicken. The chicken in the burrito and the caramelo wasn't as flavorful as I was used to, somewhat lacking that grilled taste. Their flour tortillas though were perfection - love how they just seem to melt in your mouth (thanks, lard) and the chicken chivi continues to be my fave thing on the menu. With the recent opening, there's bound to be some growing pains. Next time, I'm getting my fave order of chicken chivi and bean and cheese burrito! Free 2-hour parking in the public garage across the street!

Yelp
Instant admiration for this little gem! Service was top notch all around...from the cashiers to a lovely woman who handed the food to us. Upon arrival, we were greeted and immediately pointed to the registers that were ready to take our order. Everything was explained in detail as it was our first time visiting this new restaurant! I ordered a Jamaica drink (fresh and cold) and carne asada tacos. WOW! Delectable! Steak was tender, shredded cabbage gave it a nice fresh taste, guacamole sauce was tasteful and red salsa was HOT and perfect! Ambiance was a bit quiet since it was after 1 PM...looking forward to their famous Burrito 2.0 on my next visit!

Yelp
One of three locations of Sonoratown in Los Angeles County, this instance that recently opened in downtown Long Beach in September, serves up a focused menu concentrating on items made with their famous flour tortillas. This opening has been on radar of the Long Beach food scene for a while; I was glad we were able to stop in for a Wednesday lunch. One of the first Mexican restaurants my wife and I seeked out when we came to LA, was the original Sonoratown in downtown Los Angeles. I remember it being very busy and crowded, serving up delicious tacos....their flour tortilla was very good, setting a high bar for our expectations for future competitors. But it's a trek to get there, so haven't been back since, but continued to read about their popularity: it pretty much makes every top taco place in LA County lists. It's a beautiful space inside, completely renovated, with tall unfinished ceilings, but also using modern easy to clean portable tables and chairs. It just seemed right (only better if one could drink a cold cerveza which isn't possible right now). You get in a well defined line to place and pay for your food, which gets delivered to you once ready. As for the food, it was good....the flour tortilla (made with lard) is the star here. Small chips with two salsas (green and a hot red) [$3] - there is no salsa bar here, so you get your salsas in small portions. The chips are made from the fresh flour tortilla were fresh and addicting. A la carte street tacos ($3.50 each: got one of costilla, chorizo, cabeza). The costilla (chopped beef rib pieces) had wonderful flavor, but had a lot of ligament/gristle pieces as ribs tend to. I actually like that a lot, but if you don't, you can choose cabeza instead (very tender meat from the cow's head, including cheek). The chorizo was the closest to the consistency of ground beef, but strangely had the least flavor. Costilla Quesadilla ($4.50) - I thought this was quite a bit better than the tacos: a lot more meat with a generous amount of melted cheese, all grilled together with salsa inside. All dishes come with roasted green onion. Melon Aqua Fresca ($4.75) - seemed to be made with fresh cantaloupe... if not fresh, a very good imitation. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, and a nook to the side where you can grab self-serve ice water and utensils. You should self-bus. There are a ton of on-line articles about the owners of Sonoratown, and why they decided to open a branch in LBC. It's a wonderful story...super glad they chose this location, helping to keep the restaurant scene near us relevant.

Yelp
Im stoked that you guys came down to Long Beach! Sonoratown is our number one spot for asada, red sauce and the tortillas! We have been driving down to Los Angeles but the drive is dreadful. I was nervous that it wouldn't be the same but it taste exactly the same!! Here is to becoming a regular at the Long Beach location. TAKE MY MONEY!!

Yelp
My girlfriend heard about this place so we decided to give it a shot. They had an assortment of Mexican food items and we chose to try both their burritos and their tacos. I gave their Sonoran chorizo taco was shot and it wasn't that bad. The meat was a bit different than I'm accustomed to, but it was beautifully put together. Their green avocado salsa was absolutely wonderful. And I love the crisp of their cabbage shredding. My girlfriend had the chicken taco and said it was really good. The burritos were fantastic. You could tell how homemade the tortillas were and everything inside went perfectly together. The green and red sauce that they provide were really good. The red was way way hotter than the green. Their chips were also homemade and were perfect perfectly crisp with plenty of salt. It's a decent spot on third street and I would recommend everyone give it a shot that's in Long Beach .

Yelp
We spent the day around Long Beach and passed by Sonoratown! I'd visited their DTLA location before, so we decided to stop in. It was super busy for a Sunday but the line was not too long, we weren't very hungry so I just ordered one grilled steak taco and grabbed a seat outside. One taco was a great portion for a quick snack for us. The service was quick, and everything was spotless. It wasn't loud cuz everyone was too busy enjoying their food to talk. LOL.

Yelp
I'm beyond happy Sonoratown is open in DTLB! I tried their chivichanga in both beef and chicken and omg it blew my mind. An explosive burst of flavor and adding the red and green salsa makes it even better! While both are excellent, I favored the chicken slightly more. Can't wait to go back to try other items on the menu!

Yelp
I was so excited to check out Sonoratown's new Long Beach location, and it did not disappoint! This spot brings authentic Sonoran-style tacos, and it's quickly become a must-visit. I ordered three tacos: one chicken and two steak. I asked for the red sauce on the side since it can be a little too spicy for my taste, and I prefer the green sauce, which has a great flavor without overpowering the tacos. Both chicken and steak were delicious, but the steak was my favorite--the meat was tender and the combination of toppings was perfection. They provide seating inside and limited outdoor seating as well. Parking was easy to find--there's street parking and a free parking lot nearby for 2 hours. The staff was super friendly and quick with their service, which made the experience even better. I'll be coming back for more of those steak tacos!

Yelp
I love that there is now a Sonoratown closer to me so I don't have to drive all the way to downtown LA... but I'll miss the days of taco runs! The restaurant is located on the bustling street of 3rd street where there is a lot of life and other eateries. Environment - there are tables located inside and outside for your dining pleasure. This location is almost three times bigger than their first one. The line definitely looks long once you walk in but you get to user fairly quickly. Better know what you want to eat! There are also bathrooms in the back :) Service - good! Food - my fave is always the good old tacos! The tortilla skin is out of this world and super thin and delicious. Gone are the days where you get two corn tortillas from a street taco vendor and you failed at peeling off the second tortilla because it's taking away the flavor of the taco lol my husband loves the chivichanga - basically a fresh and never frozen chimichanga. It's really good and he ate two at once... fatty haha the best meats to go inside would be the shredded ones. But when eating a taco, I always opt for the clean taste of a Costillo :) Can't wait to come back. Parking sucks a bit but there are parking structures with free parking for the first two hours. Yay!

Yelp
I am SO excited Long Beach got a Sonoratown! I work near the down town location and I was ecstatic to learn LBC would get one because everything is so good! I am normally a corn tortilla person, but the flour tortillas here are next level. At the LBC location, I tried the chivichanga and the caramelo taco. I got the chivichanga with the shredded beef. I am not exaggerating when I say it's one of the best bites I've ever had. It was smaller than I was expecting, but so worth it. The melted cheese with the shredded beef was so delicious. 15/10 for taste. The caramelo taco was also great. I got it with costilla meat, and the meat itself was soooo good. This taco is really big, comes with a lot of things inside like refried beans and guac. It was very tasty but also pretty messy, just as a heads up. I got the special hot sauce they have - I didn't find it spicy at all. It has a good depth of flavor tho. 9/10 for this taco. I also had a small Jamaica and it was also great. Nothing too special about it, but it's done really well. This location is great - free 2 hour parking is just a block away. I went at lunch and it wasn't too busy when I went, but it was definitely getting busier as I left. There are a few tables outside for seating as well. The customer service was great, everyone was really kind and accommodating. The decor is simple and pays homage to the owner's heritage from Sonora. I've had the street tacos and burritos at the DTLA location and there is a reason they have won the best taco award. The street tacos come with cabbage and salsa already on them. The salsa can be spicy for some people, (I don't find it spicy but my boss thought it was SO spicy), so you may want to ask for the salsa to on the side.you can get a poblano pepper in the burrito if you want which I highly recommend.

Yelp
We just HAD to come once we found out Sonoratown was open. Quick little walk midday landed us here and we found the shop bustling with diners and a hefty line of hungry people. Between my fiance and I, we shared a chorizo taco, costilla taco, and cabeza burrito. The portions are ENORMOUS and the salsas are absolutely delicious. All the meats were super tender and just melted, but the cabeza was our choice of the day. Don't forget to get your green onion! ;) Service was also really great considering we went within a day of opening and food was really quick to come out! Can't wait to come back and try more of the meats!

Yelp
Great service, CLEAN SINGLE STALL BATHROOMS, amazing food. Went peak lunch hour and got my food to go in less than 10 minutes.

Yelp
What a great addition to downtown! I have been looking forward to Sonoratown opening for quite some time. Everything here is great. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. I would have to say that maybe the chorizo is my favorite though. Well the chorizo and the flour tortillas of course. Everything seemed to be running pretty smooth even though it was still technically their soft opening. The white staff was great and they were canning out the food at a steady pace.

Yelp
Overrated. I had a chicken and steak taco. The tacos tasted fresh but it was bland. There was no seasoning on the meat. The horchata is nasty. It actually gives a coconut taste. The customer service was cool. For $3.50 per taco I do not think I will be back. It didn't scream try again to me.

Yelp
Great food. Good pricing but one thing I don't like was the parking. Other than that it was pretty delicious. Will be going back.

Yelp
A recently opened Sonoratown restaurant in Downtown Long Beach, and it's a must-visit! Parking is easy, thanks to the City of Long Beach parking structure nearby, where the first two hours are free. I tried the Caramelo with costilla, featuring tender beef rib, melted jack cheese, pinto beans, avocado, cabbage, and salsa, all folded in a large, homemade flour tortilla. It was fantastic, but the real standout was the tripa taco. Though smaller in size, the crispy tripas are bursting with flavor and absolutely delicious! If you like spice, definitely try the chiltepin salsa. It costs a little extra, but it really enhances the flavors! Highly recommended.

Yelp
Amazing food. The consistency is there. Whether it's in their burritos, tacos, sauces, guacamole, and service. A small quaint place but bigger than the downtown Los Angeles location.

Yelp
So happy Long Beach has a Sonoratown now! I'd usually drive up to downtown LA for my fix. And now have one that's closer to home. It's still a gem here cause not many people know that it's here. It wasn't crowded at all. I ordered my usual beef chivichanga which is one of the best things ever. The flour tortilla here is unmatched. And the juicy shredded beef is done so right. I also got the steak quesadilla. Which was really good as well. They give you green and red salsas to go with your food. This place is definitely one of my favorite Mexican spots of all time. And now I'll get to enjoy it even more Recommendation: beef chivichanga

Yelp
I saw a long line and decided to try this place. It took about thirty minutes to order and receive my food. That being said the place was packed. They have seating but I took my order to go as they were very busy. The food was good. Only complaint is the flour tortillas are made with pork fat which limits what I could eat

Yelp
Next time hold the meat and the rubber band... Ordered a vegetarian option with side of chips and salsa to go.... Got home and it was steak along with chips and salsa that had a rubber band in

Yelp
Holy deliciousness this place was amazing. Service was incredible, clearing our plates, wiping off our table, warm greeting at the door. The food was so good. The salsas were flavorable with great heat. Went back for another round of food because it was so good. Got tacos, quesadilla, elote, chips & bean/cheese burrito. Left full and happy. Only feedback is for a changing table in at least one of the restrooms...there is plenty of wall space and would have been helpful.

Yelp
Sonoratown suggested by Pedal Movement I once reviewed. Well, I was pretty impressed with food. Size was right and it was very very good. So, at around 2p the place is busy. Line was slow but staff did work overtime. Menu simple, pictures available for clarity and transparency. I had Burrito and chips and guacamole thinking, burrito may not be enough. Ah, but it was. Asked for steak inside. Lady asked me if I want an onion on a side. I said yes. That's the Mexican onion, more elongated than a bulb. Al around, great place.

Yelp
Not a fan. Everyone raves about this place but it's rather bland. Customer service is excellent. That's it

Yelp
Great experience recently at Sonoratown Long Beach. Love that this location is closer to me, making it so convenient to enjoy their incredible Sonoran-style tortillas. We had the costilla burrito and a few of the cabeza and tripe tacos. Everything was delicious, though the burrito tended to fall apart a bit. Still, totally worth it.

Yelp
I was in the area and stopped by as I've heard so many good things about this place. The food didn't disappoint. First time i try Sonoran style tacos and they were delicious. Staff were very friendly and made us feel welcomed. Inside decor was nice and i enjoyed the music they played.

Yelp
I'd been hearing the buzz about this place since they opened - finally got around to trying it a few weeks ago. There was a *bit* of a line when I was there (2 PM on a Friday), but it moves pretty quickly, so there wasn't a long wait. (Might not have been a *table*, but I was taking it home anyway.) I tried their "caramelo" (basically just an extra-large taco) and a $4 bean and cheese burrito, also 50 cents for their extra-spicy chiltepin salsa. Verdict on it: I *do* understand why people say their tortillas are particularly good, and I absolutely could see coming back occasionally just to buy a bag of tortillas for home use. The caramelo was enjoyable, but not *that* large for $8.50 - the bean and cheese burrito was definitely worth $4, though, so I could see just popping in for a snack if I was walking by and they weren't busy. (Well, $4.50, after you factor in that I would definitely be dipping it in the chiltepin salsa again, too.) But if you're here from some "best of" list and you're expecting to be absolutely astounded by how good this place is compared to everywhere else you've been to... you might be a little disappointed? It's quite good, but Long Beach has a lot of great Mexican places, not to mention, these days, tacos from great street vendors every few blocks it seems, so I wouldn't necessarily go out of my *way* to come here, if I didn't happen to live nearby (other than I suppose potentially for a bag of just their tortillas, if I was going to make a lot of Mexican food at home.) It is solid, though.

Yelp
Great friendly service. Highlight of our experience was the poblano chile burrito, it is so delicious!!! This location has plenty of seating, music not too loud, and it's very clean.

Yelp
Food was fresh, each type of taco we got was the best version of anything we have tried. Same delicious supersoft handmade tortillas. Service was fast and efficient! Ambience , everything is so consistent to their other branch. We are so happy to have this place so close to home now. I won't be drooling from online pictures anymore.

Yelp
Happy that this spot is in Long Beach! I've only been to their downtown location once, during the pandemic, when I could only get take-out, and the taco had gotten a bit soggy by the time I got back and ate it. Eating it fresh is another experience! You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. We came around lunch time, so it was quite busy, but we managed to get a table. It seems like they only had one person who was bringing the orders out. She forgot to bring out our order of chips, and we had to ask a couple of time. That aside, the food was delicious! I ordered the caramelo, which is like a large taco with all the fixin's: shredded cabbage, beans, avocado, cheese and I got the roasted poblano. The tortillas are so soft and almost fluffy. Texture is amazing! Be warned that their spicy salsa is spicy! I ordered it with chorizo. While the chorizo meat on its own was a bit underwhelming, I think that the combination of everything else made up for it. I am normally not a fan of beans, they these beans were not mushy. I am glad that we (finally) got our side of chips and guac because the guac helped to temper the spice level. I think that next time, I may ask for only a little bit of the red spicy salsa. And get a bag of tortillas to go!

Yelp
Pretty good burrito here! I got the 2.0 asada and it was tasty. The flower tortilla was some of the best i had on a burrito. Inside is guacamole, monterey Jack cheese, pinto beans,& chiltepin salsa. The crew here were some of the most welcoming people and super friendly. Customer service is top notch. You can eat inside or outside seating. A very relaxing environment. Sonornatown located on the same street as the dog haus a couple of stores down going south. They have tripa, cabeza, chorizo, pollo and steak options! They also have all the popular beers like corona, pacifico and bohemia beers to choose from. I would go back ago and try the tacos next! They close early at 4pm so be aware.
