Sophie's Cuban Cuisine - Union Square

First time eating Sophie's cuban and i love it. Looks and tastes delicious

So far I’ve really enjoyed their food and the service ; for me it’s hard to get good Spanish food so for the couple of times I’ve ordered I’ve enjoyed it. For that reason I would recommend this place highly! Try it for yourself I’ve been nothing short of pleased and I’m a picky eater

5/31 Update I revisited Sophie's and ordered the oxtail. This time it was perfect and not too spicy. The rice was not undercooked. I am glad to say the food was exactly to my liking. Thank you to the owner who took the time to respond to my initial review. A shout out to Raymond who takes my phone orders and is always friendly and helpful. Sophie's has become one of my go to neighbor good eats. LSophie's Cuban is new in the neighborhood. It is primarily takeout and delivery. The baked chicken entree (small) with 2 sides is my favorite. Chicken is flavorful with a little crunch to the skin. Yellow rice and vegetable medley are complementry sides. Good portions. We also ordered the small oxtail stew with sweet plaintain and chickpea salad sides. Tasty stew but a little too spicey for me. Oxtail is only available certain days of the week. Must try the yummy mini guava/cheese empanadas for dessert. My disappointment is that the yellow and white rice is sometimes undercooked and has hard rice kernels. Overall Sophie's is good food, good value and tasty.

All about the green sauce. I get pernil with a twist and it never disappoints. Just know there are like 2 seats and no restroom at this location

Have always loved Sophie’s Cuban by Chambers street and was a staple in my daily routine pre-pandemic, so had to try this one. The food is always great and the prices are decent. I always get the large entree, with moro rice, plantains, and yuca. Highly recommend the plantains. Empanadas are okay, could do with more filling. Only thing I noticed was that the portions were a little smaller than before. Overall, still love this place and the outdoor seating adds a great touch.

This place is awful, got food on too good to go and I absolutely regret it. Tasted very spoilt

The food is delicious on what is ordered. I love how my ox tail meat fall off the bone. Also the service is good and friendly.

Don't waste your time you can get better Cuban food in NYC. Their serving size is pathetic for the price.

It's just ok. The Cuban sandwich isn't great, the yuca fries could be cooked more, and the empanadas (tried both the guava and beef) were just alright. However, the staff are always nice and they offer a great 20% student discount! If you're craving Cuban food, go for it. I haven't tried any of the plates or plantains yet, which could fully change my rating, but for now, Sophie's remains an alright spot.

This location is more of a pickup spot but they do have a few counter seats and an outdoor/street seating area. My usual orders are the tasty stuffed mashed potatoes and the delicious empanadas but recently I ordered the oxtail. The oxtails were definitely not fresh by the taste of the meat and the apparent slight sour taste when biting into the middle closest to the center bone. I will not be buying oxtail from this location again. The moro rice was also not freshly made that day and definitely lacking much flavor as well as the sweet plantains. Hopefully this is not a system wide decrease in quality at all the locations.
