The 25 Best Restaurants In Long Beach

"Long Beach's Cambodia Town is loaded with incredible restaurants, but if you’re looking for the best entry point, make Sophy’s your first stop. The family-run restaurant has been in the neighborhood for 20+ years and does Cambodian staples well. There are always at least a few groups seated in the big leather booths sharing noodles and scooping hot and sour soup from a cauldron. It’s perfect for a casual weeknight lunch, but on weekends, expect to wait up to an hour for a table. Get the red curry, the beef lok lak, and their beef jerky, guaranteed to ruin all other beef jerky for you." - garrett snyder, nikko duren, brant cox

The 12 Best Cambodian Restaurants in Long Beach, California | Eater LA

"Previously known as Sophy’s, Cambodian Town Food and Music on the Pacific Coast Highway is one of the area’s most successful and beloved Khmer restaurants. Here, owner Sophy Khut prepares her famous beef jerky, tubular hunks of flank steak that’s oven-dried and deep-fried. The vinegar and garlic dressing served on the side really makes the flavors sing." - Cathy Chaplin

Interesting dishes. Take the fried tofu, it's usually the firm or medium tofu that most restaurants fry but this one was soft. So it melts in your mouth when you bite into it. Take the Angel wing, it's not just fried chicken wings. It's chicken stuffed. My favorite is their home made beef jerky. I get it every time I'm here. Overall, interesting creative dishes, freshly made except maybe some of the soup, generous portions, and reasonably priced. I'll never understand why they give you like a whole pot of rice but I guess some people love that much rice. I don't know if this is the best Cambodian restaurant but the food tastes great.

Sophy Cambodian Cuisine – A Gem Worth Returning To We’ve tried several Cambodian restaurants, and one thing is for sure—we’ve never been disappointed. Sophy Restaurant stands out as one of the best Cambodian dining experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment you step inside, the warm and friendly staff make you feel like family, setting the perfect tone for an incredible meal. The menu is filled with a variety of authentic Cambodian dishes, offering something for every palate. On this visit, I ordered the fried fish with herbs and vegetables, and it was simply delicious. The flavors were perfectly balanced—crispy fish paired with fresh, vibrant herbs and crisp, refreshing vegetables. Every bite tasted like a little trip to Cambodia—it’s clear the ingredients are fresh, and the flavors are crafted with care. What makes Sophy truly special is the authenticity of their food and their devotion to customer experience. Whether you're a Cambodian cuisine veteran or a first-timer, they ensure every guest leaves with a memorable experience. For anyone looking to enjoy authentic Cambodian food, I can’t recommend Sophy Restaurant highly enough. This is a hidden gem that we’ll keep coming back to for its incredible flavors and welcoming atmosphere. Don’t walk—run to Sophy Restaurant! This is Cambodian food at its finest.

Home cook Cambodian food!! My homeboy and I drove down to Long Beach from Weho. We met Bong Srey Chanda who was serving us, and swear to God, you’ll feel like you’ve known her forever. I had such a great time and I can’t wait to come back.

Google
One of Long Beach’s authentic Cambodian restaurants. The food is very good, the prahok sauce my second favorite here out of all the other Cambodian restaurants. I just wish the steak was grilled better. They have a unique twist on their fish amok, I definitely recommend it. I also enjoyed the angel wings which were a little dry but the flavor was all there.

Google
I have to show Sophy's some love. First time eating there with friends, we felt very welcomed from the start. We ordered several dishes, and all of them were delicious. Everyone here was so kind and generous. My favorite dish was the chicken curry. I went back to get a platter of desserts, they were high quality, fresh and so good. Will be back again!

Food and service were awesome, even after showing up late enough to be last customers. They didn't rush us, had wonderful smiles, and helpful with selecting dishes. Nice size parking lot in the back, which most mom & pop establishments in LB don't have!

Yelp
I recently discovered this spot through a recommendation from a friend! They have so much seating and tables available, and prices are so reasonable too. They have a huge menu ranging from rice, noodles, and soups. The waitress accommodated my group of 12 so well! I'd recommend getting the beef skewers as a shareable item and getting one of the rice stir fries like shaken beef. The stir fry was so flavorful, and they gave so much meat. The phnom penh noodles were great too and the broth that came on the side.

Yelp
This place is usually pretty busy on the weekends so make sure to come before or after the rush. They serve very authentic Cambodian dishes which are generously portioned and decently priced. The ambience brings me back to Cambodia. They sell snacks and desert up front by the cashier. I would usually buy a few of them cause it's definitely reminds me of my days back in Cambodia. But I recently noticed that a few customers would open some of them to check the inside and later just return them back onto the plate. This happened a few times now so I stay away from them. Highly recommended restaurant though.

Yelp
First time here: They have their own parking lot with lots of space Old from the outside restaurant exterior but updated in the inside Friendly and prompt service, always checking in Delicious food Will come back to try the rest

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday afternoon and there was plenty of seating. The staff were so sweet and kept refilling our water without us even asking. I got the somlaw machusrae and it came in the cutest little hot pot. It tasted super healthy in a comforting way and I loved all the fish and veggies inside. Felt like a warm hug in a bowl. Also tried one of the skewers and it was really good too!

Yelp
Deep sigh !!!!!! I was a bit disappointed with my visit today with the cleanliness in the bathroom and in the dining room. The cluttered mess as I walk in the foyer and dining area has gotten worse . The floor is filthy of dirt residue who knows how long it's been since they mopped and scraped the black dirt. The ceiling fan has layers of dust on the blades. The overall ambiance needs a major elbow grease first and foremost, then follow up with some more appealing design. Food: it's a miss as well this time around, the flavors consistency is not how I expected from my previous experience. Lets start with machu srae ( country side sour soup ) I give this 5/5 - fried wings , overly fried tona point of it being to dry. 3/5 -beef skewers, the flavors is not the same as I recall, its a tad too sweet with burnt texture 3/5 -pad see ew , although i love the crunchy vegetables, the sauce was too salty & lacking the smoky flavor 3/5 -cha kreung saht kho ( beef lemon grass paste stir fry ) meat was tough , didn't have an inkling of kreung ( lemon grass paste ) aroma and taste. 1/5 -saht kho pro hoak , Beef with fermented fish herbs sauce . Beef was overcooked, the prohoak sauce lacks the aroma of herbs 4/5 I think this will be my last time here , until they make some changes to clean and to keep the consistency of flavors and quality they had years prior . ( Please!!!! Lesson the SALT !!!! ) dishes were too salty ..

Yelp
Sophy's has the best homestyle Khmer food in town in my book. Some of my faves are the treiy ahng, bok la'hong, prahok and the somlaw. Staff are always super friendly and helpful. Cozy spot, parking lot is tight but definitely worth a visit

Yelp
I haven't been here in years. The food is very authentic Cambodian food. I've ordered the beef sticks, papaya salad and two soups from here and they were all delicious. Staff is friendly. Inside of a little outdated, but has a lot of Cambodian decor if you're ever craving Cambodian food this is a legit location

Yelp
Places like this make me wish I had discovered food like this sooner in my life. The flavors of Cambodia are new to me but Sophys may just be a gateway to my new obsession. I loved the balance of flavors with the #66 Somlau Machu Kreuong (w/ pork bones); its soothing soulful Cambodian care that you imagine someone's grandma slaved away on in the kitchen. Mmmmm! The staff are very friendly and educated me on which plates I should order for absorbing a variety of authentic traditional dishes. I truly appreciate staff members who can teach me these things.

Yelp
I usually stop by Long Beach for some Cambodian food after spending a day in the Disney's theme parks. We usually go to one particular restaurant that I have been going to since I was child. That restaurant is not all that great, but it is the only one that I am most familiar with. This time, however, I wanted to try something different. I am so glad to have stopped by Sophy's. They do have a parking lot in the back. The restaurant is not too big or small. There's a good amount of seatings inside the restaurant with lots of lighting. I want to start off by saying how friendly the staffs were the moment we walked into the restaurant. I also appreciate the small talks with my waitress and her trying to get to know us. She also acknowledged the kids, and I appreciate that very much! What I ordered: Beef Ka Pao (stir fry), Prahok Ktiss (veggie dip), basil clams (stir fry), and Somlaw Machu Youun (soup) with a side of steamed rice. The Ka Pao was okay in my opinion. The beef was thinly sliced and cooked to perfection. I'm just used to the sauce being a little thicker when I would order it at other Thai restaurants. The Prahok Ktiss was delish! It is packed full of flavors, and it comes with a variety of vegetables. I don't really eat vegetables, but I did this time because of how good the Prahok Ktiss was. The sauce used for the basil clams was also very flavorful. I really tasted the basil in the sauce. My husband is not a fan of clams, but he really enjoyed this one. The Somali Machu Youun is another one of our favorites. I usually see Celebrity tomato (regular tomatoes) used in this type of recipe, but they used to cherry tomatoes, and I dig it! Overall, my family and I really enjoyed our time at Sophy's. We left happily full. We appreciate the customer service. I think this will be our new favorite!

Yelp
Sophy's: Cambodian Town Food & Music Stopped by Long Beach and wanted to try authentic Cambodian food. My friend from the area recommended Sophy's, and it didn't disappoint! We got the Beef Skewer (15.95): Beef sirloin served with their secret pickled papaya salad. The skewers were a flavorful appetizer--tender, well-seasoned, and paired perfectly with the pickled papaya salad. Such a great way to start the meal! Somlaw Machu Kreoung (16.95): Khmer's favorite soup: Inspired by a world of lemongrass with hints of tangy tamarind, eggplant, and watercress. This soup was delicious and reminded me of Tom Yum but with a richer and slightly more complex flavor. The shrimp added a nice touch, and it was a satisfying, hearty soup overall. Banh Cheo (16.95): Pan-fried crepes filled with ground chicken, shrimp, bean sprouts, and onion, served with fresh vegetables, mint, and crushed peanuts in a sweet and sour sauce. I've only had banh cheo at Vietnamese restaurants before, so trying it here was a real treat. Everything tasted so fresh, from the crispy crepes to the herbs and sweet and sour sauce. Portions were great, services was wonderful, and food was amazing

Yelp
We have not been here for a long time and we decided to comeback again. Authentic Cambodian food, plenty of selection to choose from. We are very pleased with the food and their service. The staff are very friendly and give great recommendations on what to order. We are surely coming back again and try other dishes.

Yelp
This is a solid place! We got the thai boat noodles and ahmok (catfish in curry sauce) with a side of rice. They serve generous portions - even the rice was larger than we expected! We've never had ahmok before, and this was a great first experience. It was light, fragrant, and creamy. The fish was tender and didn't have a fishy odor. We had leftovers and it was just as good or even better the next day. The boat noodles also hit the spot. I like how they added water spinach since I don't see that added often. The soup wasn't as thick as I was used to, but it was still rich and flavorful. Service was friendly and it definitely feels like a family run restaurant. For a restaurant in Long Beach, I was surprised at how easy parking was since they have their own lot.

Yelp
Met some friends here for lunch and got seated right away but it's getting busy toward noon. We ordered beef skewers, angel wings, beef and broccoli, pad seewee, Bing xieo to share...the beef skewers and pad seewee were the best to me! The service was great...

Yelp
We always love going here and reminiscing of home town cooking. When I want authentic Cambodian food, I always want to go there, especially Nom Banchey ( Lettuce Wrap). Simple but alot or work.. love it.

Yelp
I always loving dining at Sophy's. For me it's One of the best place to have Cambodian food while you're in Long Beach or Signal Hill. We order the cha kroeung beef, which I think is very authentic here and one of my most memorable Cambodian food since I was a child. You can taste the lemongrass mixture & peanut in this dish, not too heavy or spicy. Also had the ginger chicken, you get a little kick of spiciness with the ginger & chicken. The banh Chris is also yummy, the crepe filling includes ground chicken mixed bean sprout. Very light & refreshing fish. Also appreciate the staff and their attentiveness. Great local Cambodian restaurant to dine at.

Yelp
I loved Sophy's. My friend and I had a late lunch here and all the dishes we tried were great. We had the mixed vegetables and tofu, glass noodles and pad se ew. The atmosphere was warm and family friendly and the service was fantastic.

Yelp
Private parking lot which is a rarity in lb Phnom penh noodles are yummy Banh cheo not crispy - soggy which was disappointing Beef skewers were super yummy Papaya salad nicely seasoned and refreshing Service was good - drinks were refilled

Yelp
Visited here recently for Khmer New Years and enjoyed it! There are not that many large Cambodian restaurants and I'm glad this one is still here. Many of their dishes can be served family style and that is what I recommend. Cambodian cuisine has many similarities to Thai and Laos food, but stands by itself. They have some other more non-Cambodian dishes for picky eaters, but would recommend venturing out and trying something new! We got the Phnom Penh Noodles, Khmer BBQ Pork, Papaya Salad, and Catfish. Each dish was super flavorful and I enjoyed each one. Plenty of food and wonderful for sharing! Service is pretty standard and nice. The location is good for groups too if you're looking to bring a larger crowd.

Yelp
I hate to report that my never-ending need to try everything had won over this night... I was told by some coworkers that Long Beach had this auper bomb restaurant called Sophy's, so naturally I had to make the trip. It's located in the Cambodia town area of Long Beach, right by the street, and with plenty of parking. Inside, you'll find a pretty crowded, but not packed restaurant. The service was GREAT. They welcomed us right away and explained their best menu picks. I had our waitress pick the stuff for me because I couldn't decide: The stir fried noodles: super flavorful, with the fish-sauce-esque and bean sprouts was a flavor explosion. The chha kroeung: Absolutely perfect, with large pieces of tender and flavorful beef. I just love the additions of bell peppers, and it reminds me almost of a crossover between Vietnamese Bo Kho and Bo Luc Lac. This is the place, folks! The people here make everyone feel super welcomed, and you can definitely tell they have loads of regulars here. It's like one big family and I'll certainly be back
google avatar

Nolita N.

Yelp
I love going to Khmer restaurants, I always feel like they're so welcoming and it always feels like you're at a relative's house. Anyways, I came here recently with my family for some Khmer food and we got a variety of dishes for us all to share and try. What we got: - Stir fry ginger chicken - Cha kreung chicken: cha kreung will always be a favorite of mine and my entire family and this one did not disappoint. - Fish amok: good, but needed just a touch more flavor. - Phnom Penh noodles: my brother-in-law commented that it needed more flavor - Cha clams - Beef skewers: the flavor was delicious, the chrouk was good, the meat was a little tough, but overall, I liked it. - Lot cha shrimp: flavor and everything was really good on this one. Overall, this spot was good, and I'd go again. I like that they had some Cambodian snacks for sale at the front along with Kampot peppers. Also, they are generous with their portions of food, so definitely be prepared to feast!

Yelp
Visited during Mother's Day. Waited a bit to be seated and had our order taken after a couple minutes. This is my 3rd time eating here and today is the busiest I've seen it. The food is always delicious! Our server did forget 2 items that we ordered but it was fine since we were stuffed and had everything family style. I'd consider this a very authentic Cambodia food spot.

Yelp
Sophy's never disappoints. The food is amazing and the staff is always friendly. My out-of-town relatives are impressed with the quality and taste. It feels like we are eating at someone's house.

Yelp
This restaurant was not clean inside but I could not see inside their kitchen. The outside is filled with debris and trash so imagine what the kitchen looks like...

Yelp
I have loved the cooking and dishes served. I got a hunger that this place fills and the server is kind and hospitable. The place got a good parking space and the place inside is clean.

Yelp
This is a gem on PCH I been in this place a thousand of times and I barely writing about it, it's incredible I was there just last Night I order some of my favorite The salad rolls that are basically spring rolls, they are delicious and always fresh, the chicken satay fresh and always cook on point, Tom yum soup that always hit the spot specially in this cold weather and also I got a plate of pad see ew that taste like glory, if you are around the area you should try it, the service is excellent and the ambience very family oriented
google avatar

Steven K.

Yelp
Prices are expensive but the service is excellent. This is a clean establishment with authentic Cambodian food. We usually take tourists here if they want some authentic Cambodian food. Beef sticks are meaty and delicious. The Phnom Penh noodles reminds you of home and comfort.
google avatar

Yelp
Whenever I go through Long Beach I always try and make sure to make a stop at Sophys. The Khmer (Cambodian) dishes are always great and a unique experience as there aren't a ton of Cambodian restaurants through Southern California. It's a great place to go for a lunch or dinner with friends or family as the dishes are great to share. There are also many Thai dishes that many would find familiar like Pad See Ew or Pad Thai for anyone looking to stick with something they know. Overall, I highly recommend sophys, in particular, the beef sticks, salmon wrap, and stuffed chicken wings. Also must try the sweet rice and mango with the sweet coconut-sauce when they have it!

Yelp
Been coming to this restaurant for years and I absolutely love it. Everything on the menu is delicious and there's always something new to try when you come here. The staff is friendly and always ready to serve/help with anything you may need. Parking is a bit difficult but other than that it's a 10/10!

Yelp
I wanted to try something different after kayaking in Long Beach and I heard that Cambodian food is a big thing in Long Beach. So I did a search on Reddit and Sophy's popped-up a few times. I've never tried Cambodian food before (I have had Thai which is somewhat similar) and I asked my server what she'd recommend. She was really nice and spent the time with me to give recommendations for what dishes she liked. I ordered the Fish Ahmok (which is a steamed catfish in coconut curry) and the beef skewers with a side of papaya salad. The food was really good and I even asked my server how they are cooked, to which she spent the time to answer my questions. I could tell that the servers at Sophy's also know how to cook because they talk about how they cook the dishes themselves and they also help in the kitchen. My server was really nice and let me try some more of the papaya salad because I liked it so much and also pointed me toward the desserts wrapped in banana leaf; I tried the mung bean and banana ones which were unique and delicious. The restaurant itself had a good atmosphere and I felt like would be great for a date. Overall, I would definitely return again mainly because the staff is really nice, friendly, and super knowledgeable about the food. If any of the staff are reading this review, I'll see you next time I'm in town for kayaking!

Yelp
True Authentic Cambodia food in the heart of Long Beach! Super fresh and heart warming
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
Sophy's been around forever and my Cambodian friends have all been here for its authentic food. Their dishes are also Thai and Vietnamese influenced. w$16 for each of the entrees we ordered seemed reasonably priced. -Beef lol lak: thin strips of beef was semi-tender. Loved the sauce that was on it. Good w rice. -Banh Cheo (Asian crepes): crepe w chicken and bean sprouts self-wrapped inside lettuce and various herbs w a peanut garlic sauce. This was more delicious than ones I've tried at some Vietnamese restaurants. I think it was supposed to have shrimp but it was 95% chicken.... Love the banana wrapped sticky rice desserts that they had available at the cash register. We were told you could freeze and reheat them too. Bought grilled banana, jackfruit, and mung bean sticky rice.

Yelp
Amazed by all the well put together Khmer dish. If you never had Cambodian food got try this place.
google avatar

April K.

Yelp
If I can give this place a Zero stars. This place is a complete joke with the staff. I don't even know where to start with how unprofessional the staff is. Tables were unkept and dirty, food was not even that flavorful truly not a great representation of the Cambodian Culture especially in Cambodia Town.
google avatar

Ran C.

Yelp
Not sure how it's possible that I never dropped a review for Sophy's. But I guess late/later is better than never. Here goes Last few visits were for lunch. So, my pick of a spot in their dedicated, private lot. It's back behind the restaurant unless you wanna chance street parking. I don't recommend it as parking on PCH can be spooky with how the cars are flying by. And residential street parking in the area ... good luck. By the way, the lot is free Walk in. Wait to be seated. I typically take lunch after the rush meaning I'm there after 1-2 PM. I've never had a problem with seating then. Never had a problem with service either. Both during dinner and at lunch. Servers have always been attentive, friendly and nice As for the food - order what you like and enjoy. See pics. I've not had a dish that I didn't like. I enjoy that the food isn't overly salty and the portion sizes are in line with the prices Been here more than a few times and I'm sure I'll be back for more

Yelp
Fresh dishes but nothing exceptional. People are nice there. Quantity of food is amazing. I was expecting a little more authenticity.

Yelp
My wife and I were visiting town and decided to try this place because she's been craving Cambodian Food, what a mistake. From the moment we walked in, things were off. The servers barely acknowledged us, and after an unreasonably long wait, we were seated at a sticky, unclean table. Not exactly the warm welcome we expected. When our food finally arrived, it was an absolute disaster. My wife's dish was cold and tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. Mine? Overcooked, dry, and completely flavorless. Honestly, I wouldn't serve it to my worst enemy. What made it worse was the sheer lack of care from the staff. Plates were dropped off without a word, and no one bothered to check on us. Probably because they knew how bad the food was. By the end of the meal, we were more eager to leave than to finish eating. If you're visiting town and want a nice meal, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. This place is an embarrassment, I had to wash my mouth after visiting this place.

Yelp
I've been a bit under the weather and I needed some spicy soup to help me get better. Sophy's is one of my favorites and it hit the spot. Ordered more food so hubby could be fed. He was very happy with his choices. The food was so delicious, timing was great, and service was wonderful as always. I've been going to Sophy's since they were originally located on Anaheim. Also, potions are generous, we have enough for at least 4 more meals.

Alex D.

Yelp
Can't get enough of this restaurant! ALL is delicious! I've eaten my way through Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, and most of Asia and believe me this place is fabulous!

Yelp
We came here over the weekend around lunchtime. It wasn't too busy, but people were filtering in. The server remembered us and we got a table right away. The nice thing about Sophy's is that there are a lot of dishes to choose from. I don't think you can go wrong. The serving sizes are pretty big. I ordered my usual soup and everyone else got different plates. We were able to share. If you are around the area, this place is definitely worth trying. I like the family restaurant feel here. It's not all commercialized like your chain restaurants.

I heard some good things about this place and decided to give it a try. However, my experience was not a positive one. The waitress did not write down our order and tried doing everything from memory and ended up forgetting some things. The steak & tuk prahok that I ordered was overcooked. I mentioned it to the waitress, but she did not offer to replace it. I was highly excited about this entree, but was left disappointed.

Yelp
The food was excellent!! Service was great and this establishment has a great vibe as well. The menu is diverse with plenty of great options. This place definitely will give you your money's worth!

Yelp
A Long Beach local favorite. Great Cambodian food in large portions, for humble prices. I got a pineapple curry dish with shrimp because it sounded so unique. I have had plenty of coconut curry, but never a pineapple curry. It was citrus-y, bright and refreshing with chunks of pineapple and lots of fat shrimp served in a flaming hot pot. We also ordered the eggplant with pork and a huge bowl of white rice. The eggplant was cooked beautifully and the slat in the pork complimented the texture and flavors of the eggplant just right. Our server was friendly, sassy, funny and efficient. A great experience all around.

Yelp
I'm a stranger to Asian food, but I love it. It was my last night in town before flying back home I didn't want to push my luck with heavy curry or spicy dishes; so, I got mostly vegetarian dishes and some shrimp. I like it all! Next time I will try more exotic dishes. I saw a few go by me, to the next table. The smell was crazy delicious. I was so hungry at the point that all looked and smelled super good For a Monday night the place was packeted. I will for sure come back

Yelp
Definitely our go to spot for Cambodian food. We've gone here for many years. We go here so much that the servers know our order prior to us even ordering. Love service. Great ambiance.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Staff were friendly too. There was some minor dirtiness but none of it was bothersome. Definitely recommend

Yelp
Food was pretty good. We liked the basil chicken especially. The restaurant feels like you're in South East Asia.

Yelp
My family and I often go to Long Beach when we craving for some Khmer cuisines. Often we would go to Hak Haeng, and their last few experiences weren't great, so we started looking for other restaurants nearby. Sophy's been around for many years from what I heard, but I never try it before myself. We came in trying some of our favorite dishes we mostly would order at Asian restaurants. My hubby loves the foods here, but for my tastebuds I can't give it a 5; if you enjoy the sweets in your foods, this would be the place for you. Out of the few items of their big menu that I tried, I would recommend their beef sticks
