Where to Eat and Drink on the Oregon Coast

"For Italian comfort food, Newport is the place to visit, and chef Justin Wills — famed for his farm-to-table fine dining destination Restaurant Beck in Depoe Bay — is the man to provide it. Sorella, his charming one-room Italian restaurant, brightens up Newport’s Nye Beach with bold Oregon coast-sourced art on the walls and a full bar. Choose among handmade pasta offerings like rigatoni with vodka tomato cream sauce or veal Parmesan over angel hair noodles; the pizzas are beautifully charred with toppings that change seasonally. Save room for a triple-scoop of house-made gelato." - Jennifer Burns Bright

Our server was amazing! Pizza are small, personal size portion. Pepperoni is ok, just very light on the cheese. If you like less cheese it good for ya. Crust is little tough. Insalata Tritata salad is amazing. Parking is limited and if you dont want to walk far, they have a parking lot you have to pay per hr.

I love the Sea Bass dinner I had. The fish was very tasty and meaty. Good portion of fish. I wish the Risotto under the fish had the same portion as well. My husband liked his sausage pizza. I even tried a slice, and it was delicious.

Google
Small menu, over priced for what you get. Took a long time to get our food and we got the wrong pizza. Like a previous review, crust was hard. Caesar salad was not great either...not parmesan, croutons were a tasteless "crumble". They do away with their specials during high tourist season. I always want local restaurants to do well but this is 2 thumbs down. Will not return.

Google
We absolutely love this restaurant in Nye beach. It is our go to for Italian food in Newport/Nye beach area. Everything is made fresh and we have never been disappointed with our food. The menu is not extensive but has plenty to offer. It changes seasonally with new twists on classic Italian dishes. They just added a bolognese lasagna to the menu which is to die for. Also highly recommend the vodka pasta and Caesar salad.

Google
Very good experience here we got that beat salad It was pretty dang good and then we got some of their noodles I forget what kind they were okay and then we got a pizza and that was the best part will definitely go back for pizza and they also have a sale on everyday which is nice

Google
We had Caesar salad, pizza, and tiramisu. It was all fresh and so delicious! We will definitely be back next time we are in town. Service was friendly and the restaurant had a relaxed vibe.

Google
Walked to this restaurant because it was close to a hotel we are staying at. The staff was super friendly and it had a nice atmosphere. The cocktails were a little on the expensive side but seemed like a great selection. We went on Thursday witch is pint and pizza night so we tried some local brews that were great. We ordered the Arancini balls witch were very good then got a pizza and lasagna for a main. The lasagna was super rich and flavorful, the pizza was amazing. Would definitely recommend checking out this place if you are in the area!

Google
The food was all really good and the service was friendly. I appreciate that they have gluten-free options and I expect an up charge. $7 for gluten-free crust seems like a little much, even if they are making the dough themselves. Thats said, we had a good meal and experience.

Yelp
We came out from the valley to celebrate my daughter's birthday at Sorella and had amazing food! We started with the Zucchini Fritte appetizer with Garlic Chile Honey Aioli. It very very tasty. I tried the Chicken Parmesan. It was so good and it took me two more meals to finish my leftovers. One of my daughters has the Casarecce alla Bolognese and loved it. My other daughter had the Creste de Gallo alla Vodka and also loved it. Our server was very nice, efficient, helpful and accurate. She helped my daughter figure out which pasta dish she had had previously (it was the Creste de Gallo alla Bolognese). My daughter also had a drink, I forget the name but I believe it was a margarita with grapefruit juice. I failed to take a pic but it was very pretty and tasted yummy. We did find out that they change their menu approximately every six weeks when we inquired about the artichoke heart appetizer that wasn't on the menu. We can't wait until it returns so we can try it.

Yelp
We just love this place! We've been there on two previous occasions and it was delicious. This time was a bit of a disappointment. They no longer have the fried Brussels Sprouts. The meatballs in my husbands spaghetti were so salty he could not eat them. I got the lasagna which Is usually good was so salty I couldn't eat it. Obviously they had a bad night but the Butterscotch Cannelloni's were absolutely delicious! Since I didn't eat my meal I had room for the dessert. Well definitely try it again.

Yelp
Excellent service paired with excellent food!!! Our server was very attentive and soo polite. The food fresh & tasty. We had a great experience and will come back if we are in the area!

Yelp
Fantastic place. A cute little place in a small strip mall. The hours are 3p to 9p. You can eat in or order to take out. The food and the gelato is scratch made on the premises. It's very good. I had a pasta dish and the YS has the lasagna which he said was great. We got in there about 4:30pm and business was already starting to pick up. I looked it doesn't look like they take reservations. We purchased an appetizer as well which was deep fried Brussel sprouts. Also very tasty. All in all great service and very good food. I'll be back to check it out again soon.

Yelp
Warning: our pictures do not do this food justice!!! For appetizers we ordered the Zucchine Fritte & Garlic Bread. The zucchini was absolutely amazing- surprisingly light & airy fried puffs of zucchini deliciousness sitting on a bed of amazing chile honey aoli! The garlic bread was good but maybe sat under the broiler just a little too long:/ For entrees we ordered the Casarecce alla Bolognese & Lasagna. Both were amazing! We could taste fresh basil, hearty homemade pastas, creamy sauces, & lots of melty cheeses! Our dessert was the seasonal Apple Rum Cake & it was good but not as moist or "rummy" as I was hoping for.

Yelp
Our server, Sean, was great. Friendly, funny and knowledgeable. We the bolognese and paglia e fieno. Both delicious. The fieno pasta was a little clumped together so it took mild effort to pull it into better portions. The gelato was creamy. We got orange olive oil, mild creamsicle-like flavor and we could taste the fresh zest; salted caramel rum; strawberry sorbet was perfectly tart from the meyer lemons they used and would be a great choice for a dessert cocktail with tequila.

Yelp
We were driving into Newport from Tacoma, Washington and worried that we might not arrive in enough time to have dinner at Sorella, but they were open past their posted closing time (so that worked out very well for us!). There was a wait on a sunday night, but it wasn't too bad 5/5 - Focaccia: Light and airy inside with a perfect thin and crunchy outside. Perfect. 3/5 - Meatballs and Marinara: 2 pork, beef and veal meatballs in marinara topped with pecorino romano. 3/5 - Rigatoni Alla Vodka: sausage added. Pretty good. 2/5 - Margherita Pizza: This was served after if had been sitting for awhile and it was not hot. The cook or manager looked irritated by us sending it back and requesting a hot & fresh pizza. Perhaps that's why they took forever to serve the replacement. By the time it arrived, everyone was done... and it wasn't even worth the wait. The food came out to 3.2 stars (saved by the Focaccia). I'm leaving it at 3 because of the whole pizza debacle.

Yelp
Pasta v good. Pizza decent but not the star of the menu by a long shot. I ate so much good pasta and appetizers here that I had a life altering realization that I actually need to track my calories. I ate somewhere between 5,000 - 7,000 calories in one sitting here for dinner. To be fair - I went hard on garlic bread, two pastas, and shared a pizza. Also to be fair... it was worth it.

Yelp
Don't walk, RUN TO THIS PLACE IT'S SOOOOO GOOD!!!!!! I could eat here every day and never get sick of it. Best Italian food I have ever tasted and I have been to Italy. The focaccia garlic cheese bread was out of this world amazing and we ordered a side of their marinara sauce to dip it in which was next level. We also ordered one of their pizzas and the crust and flavors all were so perfectly done, YUM!!! To finish it off we ordered a scoop of their raspberry sorbet and it was refreshing, delicious, and nothing short of fabulous. So sad we don't live in this town because if we did we would be regulars here. Also enjoyed the cushions on the booths and all their seating chairs for extra comfort even if you aren't sitting at a booth table. This place is a gem!!

Yelp
LONG RANTING REVIEW ALERT! Incredibly underwhelming. I don't get pasta often, so when I do, I want it to be worth my time, money, and the carbs. Obviously. My most recent comparison is Grassa so...um...Sorella do better, please. My moms creste de gallo had salty basil water where the sauce should've been. My man added "confit chicken" to his rigatoni alla vodka and it just tasted like chicken and nothing else, plus it was just a minimal amount of weird chicken pieces. Confit means what? Boiled? Lol. Anyway, I got the special tagliatelle with fennel broth, calamari, and sausage and it was fine but like...whole, essentially uncooked, cherry tomatoes on it? The creste de gallo had them too. The fried artichoke appetizer was almost perfect, had we gotten a few actual hearts to dip instead of a bowl of fried flappy leaves. I dunno, man. My expectations were high and we all felt fleeced by the cost. And our server was in outer space. Definitely didn't care about our experience. Just going through the motions. What a shame. It's been five years since I'd visited and I think I'm good for like...ever.

Yelp
We got a recommendation to this restaurant by a local and are we glad we nibbled! Enjoy a walk on the beach to burn off the carbs!

Yelp
Wonderful Italian restaurant in Newport. Lasagna was very good as was the Vodka sauce pasta. Wasn't thrilled with the house red and the pour seemed a little light. Aside from that, great place for dinner. Price was spot on, restaurant was clean, and waitress was attentive.
google avatar

Wayne P.

Yelp
Everything is made in-house! We love the fresh pasta dishes especially the bolognese and vodka pasta's. One of our favorite places in town to eat!!!

Yelp
My family has been coming here for the past few years, and I'm sad to say, it's just not fitting our needs anymore. There used to be a little play area for the kids, which is now gone. Gone with it are my dreams of a drink before dinner while the little ones play. It's understandable, it took up space that a table now occupies. They don't have a printed kids menu, but the waitress told us what the kitchen could make for kids size meals. Sadly, the portion size of the kids pasta was so small that my five year old ate it in six bites and was still hungry. There was nothing wrong with any of the food, but it was just meh. We probably won't be back. Overall, it's just not very family friendly and there are much better options around.

Yelp
The pizzas are delicious and the service was very good. Be sure to try the garlic knots with cheese! The ambiance is casual and welcoming. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
We came here twice while staying in Newport, and while we enjoyed our meals, it was nothing to write home about. Pros: lots of variety of dishes, from apps to main courses, to pizza, to dessert. The chicken Parmesan was really yummy and flavorful. The Caesar salad and focaccia were both pretty good as well. Cons: The pizza really left something to be desired. We ordered the Bianca and Pepperoni and we both felt like they were missing something. The waitress was sort of unpleasant and seemed like she didn't want to be there--however, when we came the second night, the staff was much nicer.

Yelp
Wanted to try this since we had enjoyed an incredible meal at Restaurant Beck. We ordered a few entree dishes- burrata with tomatoes over crusty bread, meatballs & some focaccia. Then for mains, we each had a different housemade pasta since that is what they are known for. We tried three different desserts- tiramisu, panna cotta & pistachio cake with a blueberry sorbetto. The positives- serving sizes were good; pasta was all delicious as were the sauces; pistachio cake & sorbetto as well as the panna cotta were both amazing. The negatives- most are just little things like more salt needed on the burrata w/tomatoes & the focaccia; the biggest disappointment was the tiramisu as it didn't have the flavor impact we expected plus it's made with cake and not the traditional Savoiardi (ladyfingers). The takeaway- good service, excellent pasta & don't order the tiramisu.

Sam H.

Yelp
Delicious homemade pasta. Our go to everytime we visit Newport. Service is attentive, desserts also homemade, don't pass up the Tiramisu!

Cynthia K.

Yelp
Have tried this place a few times . The problem is they are not consistent . This time our pizza was burned on one side and doughy in the middle . It is also rather loud if it's a full house so having conversations can be difficult . Service is my biggest complaint - if you are on the radar , larger group you get service. If it is a couple of you or a single be prepared to wait . In my opinion their prices are a little steep for what you are getting .

Yelp
Food / Service was awesome. Definitely a place to check out if you're craving Italian while visiting the Oregon coast!

Yelp
I was really excited to eat here as it has good reviews, was in walking distance to my hotel and looked delicious! Sad to say, I was a bit disappointed. First off, I couldn't order online because they were too busy. I asked if I can order over the phone, he said no because they're too busy, but I can come in and eat there but the wait was 45 minutes. He did let me know he'll turn the ordering online capability on as soon as it does down a bit and was apologetic. I refreshed and refreshed for about an hour and alas! Online ordering was up and running! I ordered a quite a few things to sample. I loved the meatballs so much!! Great flavor! I also liked the Celebration almond cake and that it was on Italian flat colors. I was disappointed in the burrata with grilled peaches (was super excited about this but no flavor), the pizza di pomodoro lacked flavor (the prosciutto that I added was good) but it was oily and the toppings kept slipping off every time I picked up a piece! Nothing was holding it together! The fried polenta lacked flavor as well although the sauce in the bottom of the box helped out. I wouldn't eat there again unless I wanted to try other things I had my eye on but would be worried about lack of flavor or salt on those items as well. Also, I was asked by the gal that worked there how many utensils I needed. I said 2. I got zero. Thankfully my hotel has utensils to bring me!

Yelp
Staff isn't to friendly and they are not in the business to make you satisfied but rather take your money. From the wait staff to the chatter in the kitchen, none of them seem to care too much about the food being ordered and eaten. For a traditional Italian restaurant the pizza is a major let down. The edges are crisp, which is good, but the under carriage is doughy and floppy. It's likely their oven base does not get hot enough to create the crispy bottom traditional italian pizza would have. Also way too much corn meal on the bottom as well. Their garlic bread is store bought focaccia, sliced in half with some cheese on top, not worth $10 if you ask me. It's hard to find good pizza in the willamette valley and the coast so I had some high hopes for a restaurant that claims to be "italian". If I were you I'd either ask for the pizza well-done or take your money to one of the many other locally owned restaurants that actually serve you with care and the family run feeling.

Beth W.

Yelp
This is the best Italian food I have had in years! The tomato cream sauce is divine and the sauce on the pizza is exquisite! The pasta was perfectly cooked. I ate at several restaurants in Newport over 4 days and this was my favorite. I highly recommend!!

Central C.

Yelp
Went there last night and it was the worst it's ever been. The pizza dough was like a cracker. The pizza had ounces of oil just seeping on the plate. The toppings weren't even spread out well on the pizza. A 4 year old could make a better pie. Not to mention, their beer is always warm, and their wine and beer list is clearly made up by someone that does not have a palate. As a local of 11 years, I will never return to Sorella, I'd rather make a frozen pizza at home.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
We were really excited to try this place based on the Yelp reviews, but weren't impressed with our meals. I had the lasagna which I did not enjoy at all. Everything was very bland.
google avatar

Nathan S.

Yelp
Sorella is a great find on the coast, and does well for quality Italian fare. The service, atmosphere, and food quality were solid, and I'd recommend anyone travelling to or through Newport to give this place a try.
google avatar

Jim S.

Yelp
Don't order the pizza. Ours arrived cold, and the sauce seemed like straight tomato paste.
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
Great service. Our party of 4 enjoyed the burrata with tomato confit very much as well as the fried artichoke hearts. Two of us enjoyed the lasagna, one liked the spaghetti and meatballs and I loved one of their daily specials, tagliatani with chicken. I was excited to try their lemon drop martini using homemade limoncello but was disappointed in its average-ness. We would definitely return!

Markus Y.

Yelp
This restaurant had promise, a nice environment and pleasant staff. I had the veal parmesan, it was a large serving of veal, angel hair pasta, decent sauce. Unfortunately the parmesan cheese was burnt and the veal was over cooked. We had small clams in angel hair pasta it was bland and arrived cold. Some pepper flakes and parmesan helped. We had desert the gelato was ok, not good. The tiramisu was bitter I assume there wasn't any liquor in it and it had a lot more espresso grounds than usual. If they put chocolate powder on it at all, I'd be surprised. It was very disappointing, bitter and nasty tasting tiramisu. Absolutely the worst tiramisu I have ever had! A new cook, an off night, I don't know what happened but we don't plan on returning. Stay away!
google avatar

Theresa A.

Yelp
We stayed in a condo right above this little coastal gem and decided to go here for dinner. It was the perfect for our first night out on the trip. The service was a bit slow, but that is expected during this time. We ordered calamari, Caesar salad with anchovies, and olives to share between the four of us and there was more than enough food. As for entrees, our table had the lasagna, clam tagliatelle, the bolognese, and the ravioli. Everything tasted great, but if you had to choose, don't pass up the clam tagliatelle or the bolognese! The only dish that wasn't a large portion was the ravioli. Every other dish was more than enough for two or leftovers! The place had a nice relaxing ambiance. We will be back.

Travis T.

Yelp
We stopped in tonight after a long wait at Rogue that we ultimately bailed on. So glad we did. We were sat immediately at Sorella. We ordered the lasagna and pepperoni pizza. The lasagna was massive and the pizza was good. The meat sauce on the plate helped supplement the lasagna's flavor, which was a bit bland. For dessert we had the chocolate gelato and tiramisu. Both were excellent with the gelato having some chocolate pieces in the bottom. Overall, very satisfied and very full.
google avatar

La Nae H.

Yelp
Fresh food, good drinks, great pizza and dessert!! I'll be back for sure!! I had the Aperol Spritz, Basil Lady, a glass of red wine (with my Diablo pizza) and an Espresso Martini with the Tiramisu. Great meal!
google avatar

Joshua G.

Yelp
Great food. Really enjoyed the ambience and good drinks! Would recommend. The garlic bread was a great appetizer.
google avatar

Heather R.

Yelp
The restaurant was nice. Sever was excellent. Food was delicious! Had the margarita pizza, husband had tagliatelle and had the fried Artichokes. 15/10 would go again! They have Coke products which is nice sense everything else seems to have yucky Pepsi.
google avatar

Polly H.

Yelp
Worst pizza ever it was so hard like a brick. I felt like I was eating a cracker and I got the margarita won't do it again.
google avatar

B N.

Yelp
Best pizza and spaghetti and meatballs the first time we went then best chicken Parmesan and bolognese the next time we went! Awesome staff, and the Affagato with salted caramel rum ice cream made me want to cry. Bartender was awesome, Nathan was awesome! We will definitely be back!!!

Cassidy R.

Yelp
Disappointing. I've been looking forward to this restaurant for a long time, following them on Instagram and getting incredibly excited for their NYE tasting menu. We arrived a quarter after 5pm and upon seating was told that one of the main and most expensive items (the one we were most excited about) was no longer available. We were then given a replacement option that was $10 less than the item on the tasing menu making the tasting menu no longer a good deal. We decided to forgo the tasting menu and get al a cart dishes instead. We got our bread and salad quickly after ordering, the foccacia was ok not as crunchy as expected but decent and the cesar dressing could have had more flavor. We then waited for an hour and 1/2 for our pasta dishes, we understand that they were very busy and had few staff but that is a very long wait time for bowls of pasta. Our waitress was very kind and pleasant checking in and Apologized for the wait, though it wasn't her fault. Once our dishes finally arrived, they were very underwhelming, sauce and meat lacking flavor, seasoning and basic salt. The pasta was well made and had a nice snap but the sauces did not do it justice and brought the entire dish down. We were disappointed that they were not prepared with their NYE menu that they have been promoting for over a week on social media and that their dishes overall lack majorly in flavor, salt would go a long way in improving their dishes and could easily be a great resturant if they could improve on the food a bit.

Annie H.

Yelp
Had a group of 9 people---3 of us ordered 1/2 Caesar salad. Every single one was DRENCHED in dressing and inedible. I ordered a side of chicken for my salad and got a small bowl of boiled chicken pieces, so small that they broke apart when putting a fork in them. No seasonings. Bland and chewy, truly awful. Husband had pasta with Bolognese sauce, which was more like canned sauce ala Chef Boyardee. This was our second visit. First time was just as bad, but it was years ago, so we took a chance on going again, mostly because of the group. I will not go again. This doesn't pass for decent Italian food at all.
google avatar

Ginger T.

Yelp
Meh. The quality of the mozzarella is seen in all the oils on the plates. It also balls up in your mouth. If they used better cheese, they would have higher rating from me.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Nice, comfortable, cozy place with friendly staff. Placed a carry out order for a Margherita pizza, baked rigatoni and Caesar salad and a single serving of gelato. which is house made and comes in an assortment of flavors. Ready in 20 minutes, right on time. Packaged nicely, with the gelato in a bag of ice. The food was all good, not great. Nothing really stood out, except the gelato. Silky smooth and flavorful.

Nancy B.

Yelp
We come to Nye Beach at least once a year. This is our second meal here and we were again really delighted with the food. The pasta dishes are so tasty and the artichoke appetizer was delicious. From across the room we heard others raving about the pizza so if you are looking for Italian be sure and stop in.

Don B.

Yelp
This used to be our go to place for Italian food. We lived in Newport and loved the place. The portions were fair for the price, and the lasagna was to die for. We made a special trip into town to eat there to find the restaurant cold, with one customer who appeared to be an employee in her pajamas on a computer. My wife ordered the lasagna which was half the portion that it normally is and it looked like it came out of a frozen food case instead of being hand made like they used to make. She was able to make out 1 mushroom and absolutely no discernible meat in the dish whatsoever. I had the veal parmigiana which was extremely overcooked and dry to the point of being black on the edges. When asked about desserts, we usually get the gelato sampler but was afraid to waste any more money in that place for fear of being disappointed anymore.

Yelp
What an unexpected delight! We weren't able to get into the restaurant we intended to go to, so I did a quick Yelp search and decided on Sorella. Literally everything we ordered was good. The bartender recommended a good wine and gave us a quick tasting and it was perfection! Apparently we were the first to order the goat cheese dogs, and I was SHOCKED, they were AMAZING. Ask for the best dish and order it blindly, we did and it was the best! Friendly, tasty, award winning chef - you can't go wrong.
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect. Italian like homemade with all the gourmet flavors. Casual dining, friendly and promt service with reasonable prices and handmade food. Four of us dined on a Monday without a reservation. Ordered 3 wines and a martini, all great, a lasagna, calzone, sausage pasta and pasta with clams plus one desert. Total was $165. Will definitely return!!!

Aubrey B.

Yelp
Sincerely, was waiting for a business like this to open near us. The service is good. The employees are cheerful & attentive & I love the food. All of the pastas are really good. The pizza is delicious and the burrata salad is yummy. Go & enjoy. Have a nice cocktail with someone you like - full bar!
google avatar

Yelp
Good meal with friendly service. Nice NW vibe. The salad was fresh & chilled with a nice balance of dressing. Clams were delicious with lots of garlic. Meatballs were very good & would order them without the spaghetti next time. Portion size was good. Next time will plan to eat family style, as the dishes could be shared. Would give 4 stars if the pasta hadn't been so overcooked, even when ordered al dente.

Yelp
So... It was my daughter's 16th birthday. It was her birthday family of 4 dinner. My husband and I, and our two children. First let me say that our server was great. My daughter got her food at the same time I got mine (chicken parm and a self picked ingredient pizza). Her chicken parm was great! However my pizza (cost about $18) was so burnt the cheese was like cheese bunny crisps. It was bad... like literally crunchy crisps. Then it took 5 minutes for my husband and son to get their food after we got ours. No problem. Except my son's pizza was overcooked too. It was edible so we didn't complain. Finally got my pizza 30 minutes later after everyone ate. (a total of over an hour and a half since we ordered). I was offered apologizes from the manager after slightly arguing with the server who was very frustrated already. I was told they were trying a new cheese that needed to be "figured out better" We were offered no compensation. We come here everytime we visit Newport. I have even bought a shirt from them (previously)... I was very disappointed . AND no birthday specials. Nothing. Such a dissapointing experience. Very very big 16 birthday downer and I came back to the hotel hungry because I wasn't going to pay full price for a pizza I waited an hour and a half for after everyone else already ate and not even offered a discount. I liked this place. But will not be coming back.

Carrie N.

Yelp
Looks like we might have been there in the down season however, this place did not disappoint! Waitress was attentive and food was incredibly good and fresh! Would definitely come back...

Yelp
Service and food was A+! We had the Caesar salad, fried artichoke hearts with a basil buttermilk dressing, lasagna, and Bianca pizza. Everything had great flavor and the service was friendly and quick. Would 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
Maybe it's just an off night but this takeout pizza is so soggy with grease that it's nearly inedible. At the same time the crust is really tough. I just hope they'll correct this, I'd really like to be able to eat here. I do remember getting something in the past that was very good so I'll try again in the future. This is just really bad and I'm not the least bit picky.
