We visited Sorellina restaurant after hearing great things plus I follow the owners on Instagram. It comes highly recommended, so we were excited to give it a try, especially being locals.
We were greeted warmly at the door and given the choice of a booth or table, which was a nice start. We went on a Tuesday, when they offer a 25% locals discount that includes a welcome drink and mini appetizer -- a great perk.
Our server, Denise, came by quickly to take our drink order and see if we had any questions about the menu. She didn't introduce herself and seemed a bit rushed, but she was helpful in guiding us through a few menu choices.
For an appetizer, we shared the Fritto Misto which was fried calamari, shrimp, and halibut plate, which unfortunately was very disappointing. The dish was heavy on batter -- lots of clumps, even battered lemon pieces -- and it was hard to find any calamari at all. The shrimp and halibut themselves were good, but overall, it was not something I'd recommend.
For our entrées, we both ordered pasta dishes - Paccheri alla Sorellina and Mafaldine Puttanesca, and those were excellent -- flavorful, well-cooked, and beautifully presented.
Service overall was just okay. Denise seemed busy, and while she was pleasant, there wasn't much warmth or attentiveness. We had to ask multiple times for simple items like butter and even our "welcome drink" that came with the locals special.
The owner, Steve, came around a few times, very upbeat and friendly, thanking guests and checking in on tables, which was a nice touch. The atmosphere was lively, with good background music and a comfortably busy crowd.
Overall, the restaurant has a great vibe and good food (especially the pasta), but between the disappointing appetizer and average service, I probably wouldn't rush back. Still, it's worth a try -- especially if you're local and want to take advantage of their Tuesday special.
