A Guide to the Best Wine Tastings in the Willamette Valley

"With its 240-acre biodynamic Mineral Springs Ranch farm and vineyard near Carlton, Soter Vineyard’s connection to and reverence for the land is evident in its nuanced, thoughtful pinot noirs and traditional-method sparkling wines. This ethos is also front-and-center in the winery’s hospitality, with the ranch’s stately tasting room overlooking the grounds from its hilltop perch swaddled by trees and vineyards. But it’s not just the wines that evoke a sense of place; the farm’s regenerative spirit continues in the farm-to-table Provisions tasting menu, with nearly all ingredients grown or raised on-site, like chickens that once served as pest control and seasonal greens. Open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Soter requires reservations for the Provisions tasting, which includes wine pairings, as well as for the signature tasting flight." - Zoe Baillargeon, Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Exceptional Willamette Valley Restaurants to Visit Post-Wine Tasting

"Wildflowers carpet the hills of this Carlton vineyard and farm, home to grazing highland cattle, heritage breed pigs, plenty of cane berry bushes, and — of course — wine grapes. The farm, known as Mineral Springs Ranch, supplies the winery’s kitchen, run by Clyde Common alumnus Clayton Allen; Allen incorporates what he finds as a part of the MSR Provisions Tasting, which falls somewhere between a wine tasting and a prix fixe lunch. Adjusting seasonally, meals may involve house-baked bread and handmade pastas, succotash with sweet corn and wax beans, olive oil made with Mineral Springs olives, brothy ranch-raised chicken with earthy morels. The wines themselves are, clearly, no afterthought, paired well with each dish. The tasting is available Fridays through Mondays at 11:30 a.m. or 2:30 pm.; reservations are required." - Emily Teel

One of our favorite visits in Willamette Valley (out of 9 wineries we visited) -- and this is also coming from someone who's lived near Napa and traveled to wineries all over the world. Jeff was a fantastic and knowledgeable host and made us feel welcome, the property is so cozy and beautiful, and the food & wine pairing we did was top-notch! The variety of wine options here is stellar: we ended up signing up for the club and ordering the sparkling, Pinot, and a really cool magnum from the library collection from 2011! The sourcing for the food is so cool too: from their local farm, as well as specified purveyors as local as possible.

Troy made our experience informative and memorable. He greeted us with rose and then showed us around, explaining what else they did on property (farming vegetables etc). He then walked us thought the tasting notes in the flight. We loved the personal attention and how he was willing to answer all of our questions. We took home a few bottles with plans to order more.

This was our first vineyard stop for our trip to Willamette Valley. We booked this vineyard after finding it in our research and learning they offered more than just tastings. They have a provisions lunch that we couldn’t pass up. The lunch was excellent from start to finish. We walked up for our prepaid reservation and were greeted with a glass of rosé and immediately connected with our host for the day, Alice. Alice was a stunning host for us. I loved hearing her tell about each dish and wine we tried. Our view from our table was stunning even through the rainy day we booked. It was a bit chilly that day, but the fire in the hearth and the delicious food and wine to warm us. The chef also came out to meet each table which was a nice touch. Highly recommend this experience.

Google
Highly recommend a visit to Soter later in the afternoon on a Friday and staying for the Happy Hour after. Everyone is incredibly welcoming, the patio is perfection, the wines are terrific and the snacks are absolutely awesome.

Google
Provisions Tasting The tasting felt rushed, several of the dishes were served at the same time which did not allow for a proper tasting of each wine and the related food and the food pairing itself was disappointing, the dishes were cold even those that were not supposed to be, outside of the beet soup the rest of the dishes lacked flavor, and one dish was excessively salty when brought to the attention of the host, they simply said sorry, no effort was made to address that, for a $150 food and wine pairing I believe that is unacceptable. I would advice a simple wine tasting and skipping the Provisions food pairing, this way you may enjoy the outdoors and the views. Our host Katie was witty and provided adequate information on the wines.

Google
I have been a club member here for a few years. I love their wines and it is true joy to visit there for tasting. Their building is nice and the grounds are gorgeous. It’s so nice in the summer have some sips outside. When it gets cold they have ample heat towers to keep you warm. You can choose to stay inside too. Good thing with this winery is that they have kitchen and serves warm food for pairing!! Cheese board is fine they incorporate food sauced from local growers. The staff are all so nice and knowledgeable. If you are looking for wine tasting place in Yamhill Carlton AVA, I highly recommend to visit Soter Vineyards.

Google
Exceptional experience - the MSR provisions tasting was totally worth the price. Our guide, Chris, was very knowledgeable of the vineyard, Tony’s history, etc. and the region, having worked at some other wine programs. Chef foraged many ingredients for the meal pairings and the rest was local purveyors. Beautiful burst of spring flavors and amazingly prepared, simple ingredients but delightful conception of each plate. To die for! The wine pairings were excellent and really captured the terroir of their vineyards and style of their preparation. Delightful rosé and brut X, zippy cool climate Chardonnay (no Cali oak/butter yuck), two Pinots one blend and one estate series, and a bonus brut rosé to finish with dessert. Can’t go wrong coming here!

Google
Troy was GREAT! Very friendly and personable, loved learning about the wines and vineyards. The wine was amazing (great pinot noirs), and the cheese plate was VERY generous. The views were also spectacular. Definitely worth a visit and a return visit for us!

Yelp
I have to say that this vineyard hit my radar from friends who spoke of its praises. A friend had an extra spot for their fall wine tasting and offered it to me. Yes please! Then I found out I would get a raffle entry with donating ten cans of food. I was sad to see so few towing food with them to donate. Walking up and being handed a gorgeous glass of rose was pretty amazing. It was so wonderful having people rushing to great each person leading them in. I was glad I got there early so getting around was far easier. The drive up is a bit long, steep and gravel. I did not use it but a member later showed me the commode trailer as I was taking a snap shot since I laughed at the 'luxury toilet' label. They are air conditioned and definitely quite a step up from a blue box situation. For the event I was able to try 2 types of pinot noir, their sparkling and their chardonnay. Delicious and I was in shock to adore their chardonnay because that is not a wine I enjoy often. The food was also lovely. I was a bit surprised as to how many children were present as even the popcorn seemed not something children would enjoy. The grounds are also very adult with gorgeous views but with lots of gravel around, the kids were running through the tents since there was no where else to be.

Yelp
Wowzer what a great vineyard!!! Amazing wines but vibe, decor and staff are the tipping point that sets this spot above and beyond!! Food is also a great surprise and excellent added joy to amazing wine!! From vegetables to nuts and cured meats, sausages ...Chef prepares tasty local treats!!! Dont sleep on soups!!! Flights are great but be sure to try a few from the order menu!!

Yelp
I finally got to see what all the hype was about and yes it lived up to the hype. Service, views, wind were all incredible.

Yelp
Incredible vineyard. Incredible experience. The hospitality was off the charts. Best charcuterie I've ever had. You won't regret it!

Yelp
Best wine and tasting that we enjoyed on our Willamette Valley trip. Our host Andrew was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were able to enjoy the provisioning as well as the tasting. Would recommend this venue to anyone who enjoys great scenery and hospitality. Can hardly wait to come back next year

Yelp
We visited Soter last December (2020) & planned to do the provision tasting. Unfortunately, due to COVID, the food portion was cancelled. In January, we were able to reschedule! I think that they do 2 seatings when the tasting is available-an early and a late lunch. We went at 2:30 on a Monday. Our experience started with our server/hostess, Clarity, greeting us outside and bringing us in to a glass of sparkling rosé! From there we progressed to the personalized menu. We are pescatarian and Soter was extremely accommodating with this! Our lunch was served family style in 2 parts. Clarity also gave us some tasting hints and tips and left us to try at our leisure. My favorite course was the gnocchi-absolutely delicious (I wish I was eating it now!) and the 2019 Pinot Noir! I also loved the Mineral Springs sparkling rosé. We had a great time-worth the wait! Clarity was amazing, she was so personable and welcoming! We've done similar tastings at other wineries but this has been the best, by far! They do check for vaccines/negative COVID test. This is on their website as well as noted when you make a reservation. (I am mainly adding this in because I saw an earlier review criticizing the way this is handled).

Yelp
Soter is a special place to make memories! My friends and I had an amazing experience in February. While we enjoyed the wine, we especially enjoyed the effort of this biodynamic winery and staff. We truly appreciated the personalized visit, which was cozy, informative and casual. I truly hope to return again and further explore the grounds and more wine offerings. And the cats.. too cute! Yelp
Absolutely gorgeous. I'm so satisfied with my Membership here. I cannot pass it up when I'm out in the wine country. This is one of the most authentic wineries and space. If you love Pinot, I recommend stopping here for a tasting and getting both the cheese and charcuterie boards. High quality! The view, the cows, the barn, sweet cats and relaxing unpretentious vibe all hit the spot. Then, head to Alexana down the road for some really big pinots.

Yelp
Great location with nice views and their wines are outstanding. If you are a member, some of the best events around!

Yelp
Classy, beautiful, perfect wines...... everything a wine tasting experience should be! I have waited awhile to write my review.... I've been many times, and every time is just like the first time! We are always greeted with a warm friendly smile and glass of wine/bubbly before we reach the front door :) Apt only tastings, makes for the intimate experience. This is not your typical winery with kids running around ( unless there is an open house event), this is a nice relaxing atmosphere. The main tasting "room" is exactly how I would like my main living area of my house! Large fireplace, wall of windows, and a big open kitchen! Yes- kitchen! A lot of amazing creations come out of this kitchen for various events. We have done the Provisions tasting, and I highly recommend this experience! A seated food/wine paired tasting that is absolutely amazing! The wines are also very good! I love that they have wines from their sister site, North Valley, as well as their Soter label. We have found that the North Valley is ready to drink now, while we will lay down some of the Soter wines for a few years. Soter does make my favorite bubbs... they recently offered a blanc de blanc bubbles that are swoon worthy! The price point is pretty good for the quality of wine they make here. The little tasting cabins are super cute too. Very private with gorgeous views, a unique wine tasting experience to be had. All the folks that work here are always very friendly, and treat you like family. They never make you feel rushed or out of place.... If you are even thinking of joining their wine club, do it! We are in a handful of wine clubs, and Soter is our favorite, top of the list! Attention to detail and top notch service.... I can't say enough about the wine and the folks at Soter! I send all my out of town guests here :)

Yelp
Of all the vineyards I visited MSR- Soter is by far the best that the valley has to offer. Their story, and love for the land and the environment.Their attention to detail and their love for the production of only best grapes is astounding. Reservations are required since all their events and tastings are private. We opted for the MSR tasting ($100) which is a food and 5 wine pairing. We were warmly greeted with a glass of their 2016 North Valley Pinot Noir rose which was light and crisp. Perfect for the hot sunny day. The house is open and modern with an amazing view. We were directed towards a table where we met two other couples. The tasting consisted of fish, chicken, cooked vegetables and a raw tomato salad. The food and the presentation was absolutely exquisite. Elena and her team have done an amazing job with the menu. As we indulged we were walked though the process of the production as well as the history of the farm and the valley. All the wines were absolutely amazing. Prices for their wines go from $25 up to $300 per bottle, so there is something amazing for every price point. Soter was also the only vineyard that informed us of the agreement between Alaska air and the valley where they allow you to check up to a full case free of charge as long as you are a member of their miles program which is amazing to not have to wait for your wine. Needless to say, a few bottles were purchased and brought to their new home. Soter also offers an amazing membership program, free of charge, with over the top perks!!! And, they just ask you to commit to two shippings per year, which is easily do-able! Everything about Soter was absolutely amazing! I highly highly recommend you make the effort to visit and do a tasting. You will be everything but disappointed. Thank you so much to the Soter family for bringing this amazing group that is really a family together. I feel honored to be part of this amazing place. Can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
I am finishing up my bottle of perfect Planet Oregon PN. Drinking it straight from the bottle; it's that hard to put down! Tony Soter....love your skills!

Yelp
We had a great time wine tasting in their beautiful setting. We were set in our own cabin, and our server was delightful.

Yelp
We did a wine tasting at Soter Vineyards and it was an amazing experience. The four wines we tried were delicious and the cabin where it was hosted had beautiful views. Clarity hosted our wine tasting and her knowledge of MSR, the Willamette Valley and wine was astounding. It was enjoyable and educational. I'm hoping to visit again and include the Provisions food and wine pairing (need to plan ahead further.)

Yelp
The Open House here over Thanksgiving weekend was a lot of fun - a great line-up of sparkling, whites and pinot noir paired with a top notch selection of bites including croque monsieur and coq au vin. The main tasting room was lovely with a roaring fireplace, high ceilings and inviting seating. The inclusion of coffee was a welcome addition to all the wine and a clutch pick-me-up for more imbibing on such a busy weekend in Willamette Valley.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
This was the only food and wine experience we booked on our trip and I am so glad we took the suggestions to do the Provisions Tasting. The property is open and airy and offers spectacular views from the hilltop to vineyards and gardens. The wines were some of our overall favorites of the trip and it was elevated by the farm-to-table, creative and incredible food pairing. They were attentive to one of our members' dietary restrictions and still done family-style, we couldn't stop raving throughout the experience. With a rich history in quality winemaking and the farming and food component, this is, for me, one of the definite not-to-miss experiences in Willamette Valley.

Yelp
Just a fabulous wine tasting w pescetarian food pairings.all produce grown on sit at their biodynamic farm. The attached pics say it all!

Yelp
I wish I had the money to spend here. Wine was excellent. Food was superb. The ambiance hit the mark. Would definitely return.

Yelp
We couldn't have enjoyed our experience at Soter more! We were recently on a trip to OR and heard from several people Soter was the place to go! They had the nicest staff and the best views. The wine was next level!
google avatar

Stacey G.

Yelp
Beautiful vineyard... breathtaking views! Greeted on our walk into the tasting room by our wine guide with just poured wine for our first tasting! Very welcoming first impression. Loved the tall windows to take advantage of seing the lush landscape. Enjoyed tasting all the wines. Very appreciative of our guide Evita who happily entertained our 5 year old with puzzles and their cats Bill & Ted. Such a relaxing visit during our vacation to Portland. Insider TIP: Go with a friend who is a member and tastings are free. Would love to visit again during our next vacation to Portland.
google avatar

Scott G.

Yelp
Wine is very subjective but I think their Pinot Noirs are among the best in the valley. The people here are super nice too. We went the members open house and had a great time. They have a tasting room in Newberg by appointment only. Check it out.
google avatar

Dirk R.

Yelp
Really disappointed. Several recommendations to visit, however, we were turned away due to no reservation. Not one other winery required a reservation, nor did any local referral suggest we needed one. What's worse, is we were greeted with a glass of rosé and then asked if we had a reservation, and then denied an opportunity to taste and purchase wine. We did not have a reservation and looked around to see more staff than patrons (one table in the whole venue). At this point, with only two of us, I would have expected either a statement of , "we have a huge party coming and require reservations in advance" or "normally we cannot accommodate walk-ins, but we'll take care of you". Thank you for the offer for a future reservation, however, we are not local to Oregon, as I said when we were there. A future reservation does us no good.
google avatar

Ritu K.

Yelp
I would highly recommend this winery if you're tasting around Dundee. First things first-you need to make reservations. Every tasting we've had has been a sit down private affair at a leisurely pace. No large bar to saddle up to and fight for space. I think you try roughly 4 wines and a Brut rose. The wines are delicious and the staff is super informative. For true wine lovers this is a must stop. The tasting is $30 (not sure if that's comped for purchases) and well worth it. We decided to join the wine club and so far have been impressed with the wine events as well. Love this place! Little tip: gps has a hard time finding this winery. It's on the hill with a tiny sign leading you up. Just look for the road going up..

Jessica M.

Yelp
Beautiful experience; rustic and charming, with knowledgeable server. We had the charcuterie board and would recommend! It is an elegant and tailored experience, with a dedicated server who is clearly knowledgeable and excited about the wine experience and area. The inside looks like a Restoration hardware restaurant meets Napa valley views! Our server Avedia was unpretentious and approachable and helped us navigate the different vintages. If you want a smaller, more elevated experience, definitely recommend! If our friends ask us about Willamette Valley, this is the one winery we'll definitely suggest!

Yelp
Imagine yourself on a cool Oregon day driving through the country side. Top down. Wind blowing through your hair. You drive up a windy dirt road and end up at your lovely destination. A beautiful young woman greets you in the driveway with a smile and a glass of wine. You think your dreaming til your wife slaps you upside your head and you realize this shit is real. You get invited in and once inside a table greets you with glasses and wines already set up. Paper and pen too in case you want to take notes. For the next hour plus you get a wonderful education and appreciation of fine wines. $20 gets you a half dozen of the most delicious wines in the region. A chard/gewurtzraminer blend, a chard, several pinots, and a sparkling brut. Of course the fee is waved if you buy. After tasting you are invited to stroll around the grounds including the gardens and the vinyard. The hillside is not only teaming with vines but also wildlife. We saw a variety of birds and the host has seen coyotes and foxes on the property. After a relaxing stroll, you pick up your wine and get into your car. No dream here but now its back to reality. PS make sure you have a reservation!
google avatar

Vanessa M.

Yelp
One of my two favorite wineries in the Willamette Valley. The property and tasting room are absolutely gorgeous. I loose myself every time I visit with my friend (who is a wine member). Make an appointment for tasting and they treat you like you are their private guests! the wine is amazing and worth the cost. If you are lucky enough to go during a wine club member event or open house and get to taste their food, you will loose your mind - they make deliciously prepared little bites. I love their Planet Oregon series as it is affordable and a great every day wine, both whites and reds - they are my "to share wines" unlike the mineral springs pn....thats not to share!
google avatar

Kristin M.

Yelp
We showed up to this tasting room not knowing we were not able to taste without a reservation and we were turned away. Beautiful area, but not the smartest business.
google avatar

Jessica W.

Yelp
Loved this place! We stopped here due to the fact that their 2008 Pinot Noir was rated number one by the September Portland Monthly. It is well worth it to call and make an appointment as you cannot just drop in. We called and were able to get one within an hour. There is no sign along the road to mark the vineyard, so pay attention to the address. This is, I am sure, to prevent people from dropping by without calling first. The tasting room was large and beautiful with an equally beautiful view. We were greeted outside on arrival with the 2006 sparkling rose. The rest of the tasting was around a table with detailed descriptions of each wine and its creation. We tasted the rose as well as several pinots. The signature wine we came for was well worth the trip. One of the best tasting experiences I have had and the wine was wonderful!
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful venue and exquisite experience. Need reservations and it's well worth it. Treat yourself to a wonderful experience and delicious wine.

Yelp
Came up to Willamette Valley for a girls weekend. I had done some research and decided on Soter due to its biodynamic practices. Our tasting experience and spending time at the vineyard was incredible. Great environment, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and beautiful ambience. We had such a good day and will certainly be back on our next trip!
google avatar

Jeanne Z.

Yelp
Solid Wines, beautiful estate. Exceeding Expectations of Customer Care/Service. All the staff was very approachable and helpful. At $30/person to taste and all year round-requiring reservations (except during open House Weekends, Thanksgiving and around Memorial Day) this winery is a little bit more "high maintainence" than other wineries that I tend to frequent. Regardless, I'm glad I experienced it and know what to expect, but it's not a top-favorite one that I would consider becoming a Wine-Club Member of or anything like that. But, we had a great day, and I appreciate the memory. ANd, I do recommend everyone trying it and making their own opinion!
google avatar

Marcela S.

Yelp
We had a great tasting experience in a private little "outbuilding" that used to be the owner's sleeping lodge. Just gorgeous. Delicious wines, excellent detailed info on the grapes, the process, and the regions by David. We will come back on our next trip to Oregon.

Timothy N.

Yelp
Pretentious and self-absorbed. Get over yourself. Was turned away for not having a reservation on a lazy Friday afternoon when their parking lot was half full, at best. My goal was to taste and buy. Welp I can fix that, and move along. I found there were plenty of other local wineries that had some world-class products and actually want customers. Strongly recommend you skip Soter. If you are looking for a recommendation, I found Domaine Drouhin and Bergström provided the more laid-back and welcoming environment that, at least I look for, when touring wineries.
google avatar

Tanya W.

Yelp
A classy vineyard with amazing wines. This is a must see/stop while you're navigating wine country.
google avatar

Al A.

Yelp
This place is gorgeous and all their wines are delicious. The sparkling, the "unoaked" chardonnays and of course their Pinots. Such a good experience, it is my go-to pinot noir and I tell all my friends about it. I am glad my local wine shop carries them. Cheers!

Richard H.

Yelp
Discovered Soter wines at a restaurant in Arizona two years ago. I visit my brother and his wife in Oregon every fall. We make a point to include a visit to Soter Vineyard every year. Beautiful tasting room, wonderful staff and great wines. Bring 3 to 4 bottled home every year.
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
Soter is easily among the top three most beautiful vineyards in the Willamette Valley. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly with a glass of Rose as we took a moment to take in the expansive views, cool breeze, and sounds of a working vineyard and farm - total sensory overload. I had scoped out this place for months prior to a surprise engagement trip for my girlfriend and I, and couldn't have been happier with the result. The grounds and tasting cabins are immaculate and well maintained, with incredible 360 degree views of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA; the staff was so friendly and clearly loves working here - they went above and beyond to make the day special for us; the wine is elegant and truly expressive of the Willamette Valley and Yamhill-Carlton (we signed up for the wine club without hesitation) - hopefully you aren't coming here seeking CA fruit bombs. Truly a unique experience and a wonderful way to taste through several incredible wines for a reasonable fee. We will be back next year!

Yelp
This is everything a wine tasting experience should be. From the building to the setting to the people to the wines. Everything. Soter offers tastings by appointment only. And oh is it worth it. The tasting facility is a beautiful lodge with a couple of out-buildings. You're welcomed at the door with a glass taste, and start out in the gorgeous main lodge. When your group has assembled, your personal taster takes you down to one of the two out-buildings for a seated professional tasting. Attention to detail is everywhere, and the tasters are super knowledgable. The wines themselves? Exquisite. Some are creeping up there in price, however unlike a lot of other overpriced wines in this valley, the quality here stands up to the price. On our last visit the 2012 Mineral Springs Ranch blew my mind. Ranked 17 on WS's Top 100 list, I can understand where the accolades come from. I know '12 was an amazing vintage year in Oregon, however this is above and beyond most of the 12's I've tasted. Their bubbly is pretty insane as well, however at $65 I can't afford many bottles of that. I did score two magnums of the '12 MSR, and I'm blown away at how inexpensive this wine is for how amazing it is. I had tasted an $85 bottle earlier in the day that simply came nowhere close to even the lower end bottles here. Oh, and the best part? Buy one bottle and your tasting fee is waved. For this quality experience?! That's how it's done. Take note all you other tasting rooms that require $100+ purchases to erase a single $15 tasting fee. This is how it's supposed to be done. Amazing wines, amazing facility, and great people. You owe it to yourself to make a stop here when you're in the area. But call in advance!

Yelp
An unbelievable tasting experience! Once our group arrived, we were greeting at the door with a glass of wine, which actually turned out to be the first wine on the tasting menu. We were then shown to our tasting area which was one of the individual cabins a 100 yards or so away from the main common area. The tasting cabin was incredible and had amazing views! David provided an amazing tasting experience as we went down the tasting list, he even had Frank Sinatra playing in the background. Their white wines were crisp and refreshing while their reds were full of flavor unique in taste. After concluding our tasting, we were shown back to the common area as our host was gracious enough to let us all try some of their sparkling wine, which wasn't on the tasting menu. Naturally we ended up buying multiple bottles of the sparkling as well as some of the wines we tried during the tasting. This is a must visit but be sure to leave plenty of time to enjoy the experience...and views!

Yelp
Since the last time I was here where we did the wine tasting in the main building, it looks like they now have wine tasting in the little cabins where the parents and the kids used to live. These cabins are well maintained and super neat! The main tasting room has a fireplace and three couch seating areas (two by the windows and one in front of the fireplace. Oftentimes they have tables set up between the fireplace and the bar for tastings. They also have a covered patio for people to hang out in, with view overlooking the hills of our beautiful Willamette Valley. With our casual tasting ($30/person, waived with purchases of equal/greater value), we got to try five different wines: a rose (poured for us when we first walked in - we got a couple of refills on that), a chardonnay, two pinot noirs and a brut rose. The quality of their wine is amazing and I really enjoyed the group I was with! The intimate setting allowed us to have great conversations, and of course our host Jodie was fantastic. The tasting room is humans only, so don't bring your pets here!

Yelp
I had a lovely experience here. The tastings are done in private cabins, and they have a small local farm stand on property where we purchased seasonal berries. I'm not sure if the Soter owners read these reviews, but if you do- please tell the parents of the two teenage boys who were working the farm stand that they have done a stellar job at parenting:) Such polite, sweet and smart kids. I really liked the sparkling brut rose and the white label pinot. Do note that they will not ship in this hot summer weather, and you should not attempt to carry the bottles in this weather. Wines can spoil in as little as 30 minutes in extreme heat. You can buy and they will ship in the fall.

Yelp
This place is amazing. A part of me wants to keep it a secret so it doesn't ever turn into one of those commercialized, tour bus winery stops in the future. Another part of me is eager to share this with like minded wine lovers who appreciate small scale family oriented, super knowledgable, and friendly service. Be sure to make an appointment. I was here with two friends in mid June. It was a Thursday morning appointment. It is a VIP experience start to finish for a $15 tasting fee that is easily waived with a wine bottle purchase. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, a representative from the winery walks out and greeted us at our car with a glass of wine. Wow! Then we got seated at a table with a few others who made the same time appt. it was six of us and then a very knowledgable gal who took us through all the tastings of wine and even provided a lot of history about Dundee Hills region. Afterwards I bought a bottle of the rose wine we tasted. It was a great value at $25 and it waived the tasting fee. Love to come here again!

Yelp
WOW!!!!!! So while driving to the vineyard with my husband I was skeptical at first since they did not have any signs for the vineyard. We drove up the gravel road up the hill to be pleasantly surprised by Robert walking to meet us as we got out of our vehicle. He welcomed us to the Soter Vineyard with a glass of wine and advised us to enjoy and make ourselves comfortable while we wait for the rest of the people for our tasting. The tasting was limited to 6 people with reservations. The tasting area was beautiful and the table was set up so everyone had a wonderful view in the open air room. The setting was so relaxed, intimate and just perfect. Rob did an excellent job explaining all the wines to us. We were given a 5 course flight. I really don't know much about wines, but he was very friendly and professional. The tasting fee was $20 per person and is refunded with any purchase.

Yelp
I've done a lot of wine tasting in my life. I've never become a member at a winery, but I had to the first time I visited Soter. The wine is incredible, the setting is beautiful, and the staff is unbelievably attentive. They remember your name and treat you like family. If you're a member... I strongly encourage you to go for soter sunsets on Friday evenings... The food is grown onsurw and delicious.

Yelp
Wow, I totally forgot to review this when we visited. Though my cellartracker notes are in hand. The facilities are nice. Overlooking the vineyards to the south. Very well educated and accommodating staff. Pinot 2010 rose: nice underripe red fruits/white rind of watermelon, but it needed a bit more minerality North Valley 2010 Pinot: A step up from the 'planet' botteling, but this was a tougher vintage and this doesn't hold up. Other basic bottlings are much better in the price range. North Valley 2010 Chard: Similarly light offering. Heard the other chard was better. Mineral Springs 2010: Very nice. Some cola and coffee with enough acid to provide the balance. One of the most expressive 2010's we had. Some good depth. Perhaps a touch overpriced in the $60 range (more similar quality to $40-50 bottlings at other vineyards) White Label 2009: Succulent. Very extracted but balanced. Smutty comes to mind, but for this vintage that's actually reserved. Silken texture reminiscent of RRV fruit. Certainly a step up in terms of persistence and depth on the palate ($80 range) Reservations: required Cost: $20/per but comp'd with purchase Overall: Higher end pinots are solid regardless of vintage. Soter doesn't hide a bit of new world veneer to the wines, but the top flight wines are very good if a bit overpriced and never go over the edge to fruit bomb land. They also have a brut sparkling (Soter is famous for Napa sparklings). Certainly a very nice experience.

Yelp
My experience here was brilliant! Seriously, just bury me here when I die. Or compost me and let me fertilize their grapes. (okay, that might not sell any wine) The setting is incredible - the main building belongs in the pages of Dwell magazine, with its generous space and openness to the outdoors, spilling onto a beautiful view of the Willamette Valley. Being greeted with a glass of bubbly right as we stepped out of our car was a surprising (and very welcomed) introduction. The three girls who explained their locale, mission, land and products were jovial and so easy to get along with (also worth mentioning, all quite beautiful). I could have spent my entire afternoon there... tasting their delicious wines and playing with the adorable (two) dogs running around the property. They are in the process of being accredited as a bio-dynamic farm and I'm fascinated to know more. Love Love Love.... I'll be returning here!

Yelp
This place is soooooo worth the call to make a reservation. The setting was spectacular. The hosts were knowledgable, friendly and no pressure to buy - probably they know once you've tasted the wine you won't want to leave without a bottle or two or three or .... You can see where this is going. Which wine you ask is good. To that I say YES! We enjoyed them all. You can't go wrong.

Yelp
There are...no words to accurately describe the loveliness that is Soter. But I will try. To start, once you find the secret-ish driveway, the drive up the hill is lovely. You are greeted with sparkling rosé in the parking lot (I mean, who DOES that?!), met with a smile, and with the Provisions tasting, you are welcomed with a private, comfortable set up specially for you and your lovelies - with personalized menus, to boot. The tasting room/kitchen? I want to live there. The food? Glorious. The wine? Only further enhances the wonderful experience, and you find yourself lingering after your bountiful lunch with "just one more glass" as you take in the spectacular view from the patio. Go to here. You will not be sorry.
