I love going out to this little farm, once a year they have a come and cut your own fresh lavender, and usually have tents set up that sell a variety of things, oils, trimmings, sprays, soaps and usually always you'll find bake goods. They had some petting goats there today. So if in the area, definitely stop out, clip and cut the lavender you want, they have buckets, ties and clippers and it's up to you how much or how little you cut. Many varieties to choose from and it's $8.00 per tie / bundle and they provide you a tie to wrap it all up. The smells are lovely too, it's happening today and tomorrow 9-4, so if the area, you should expierience this nice little outing. There is free parking too

Soul Food is a lovely and peaceful oasis from day to day life. I love making my weekly outing to pick up fresh bread and pastries, eggs, and whatever other produce is current.

Wonderful event space. Charming gift shop and a fantastic flower garden. The owner offers a variety of local business products and a great assortment of bread and jams. Highly recommend for visits and if you're in the market for unique gifts.

We had the most delightful weekend on the farm! Alexis was accommodating and provided great options on what to do and where to eat around the area. We loved staying in the safari tent.

This beautiful family-owned and -operated farm boasts gorgeous rows if olive trees; well-tended gardens; and healthy, happy animals, all lovingly tended by the owner, who lives onsite and regularly offers opportunities to the local community to learn about the inside details of raising free-range chickens and harvesting Italian ive varietals, which are locally pressed into a delicious, healthful oil each season.

Yelp
I was excited to visit the farm stand & explore. We drove in & my aunt who has cancer & a bad back couldn't walk from the parking lot, so we drove further to the stand. When we drove, there were 3 pots with a path that had clearly been traveled (tire marks), so we went through. I wanted to drop her off right to the stand. I'm assuming it was the owner, approached us & was extremely rude. No hello, no welcome, just rudely asked how we got into the farm. We said we drove & she raised her voice and asked again, how we got there because she had put 3 terracotta pots to block the path so people would use the parking. We told her we did see the parking but I explained to her about my aunts condition and that I wanted to drop her off because she couldn't walk. The pots weren't that large and if she didn't want people to pass them, she should have put signage or other barriers that cars couldn't access . I told her we saw the parking (we aren't stupid!) and yet she continued to treat us poorly and talk to us abrasively. At that point, my aunt was so upset and just wanted to leave, so we left. I will Never go back. Such a rude person. Treated us like trash.

Yelp
Needed farm fresh eggs for tomorrow. I went there about 10.30 a.m this Friday morning. The entrance gate was locked. I'm all for supporting local farmers, but don't advertise accessibility when you're not accessible. I drove quite a way to get there.

Yelp
Nice staff and beautiful lavender and other flowers too - first timers for u-pick and it was pretty fun. Picked out other flowers at the back of the fields to put a bouquet together. Also bought some lavender lotion, lip balm, and jelly for toast later which are all grown in the same field. The smell of lavender while cutting is amazing. Be careful with the bees. I'd recommend visiting and doing the u-pick which is a bundle for $8.00. Next time we will visit the farm next door.

Yelp
This place is a real treat. The staff and owner are very nice. Looking forward to returning in the fall to see the rows of beautiful lavender. #SoulFoodFarm

Yelp
Extremely overpriced! Greedy farm owner! We had driven to Fairfield for some work and decided to stop by this farm. We found 1 last cabbage head in their fridge and decided to buy it. The lady there charged us $10 for it. We were completely taken aback by this steep pricing. Cabbage is not more than a $1 a pound even in our farmers markets. This was a complete rip off. All of us were really tired and did not want to get into an argument with this woman, over what we had bought, the cabbage and some olive oil. What a shame that she got so greedy with the last customers for the day. Don't bother going here.

Yelp
Took a day off to enjoy the U-Pick lavender! Available to pick from June 11-17, be sure to sign up online before you visit to reserve a spot (controlled due to coronavirus). You'll have 1 hour to wander through the rows of lavender and watch the busy bees. They provide buckets, clippers and ties, but you can also bring your own. I was a bit hesitant to get in there and start cutting due to the bees, but just approached carefully and minded my business. There's on-site parking, and a few tables and benches to rest beneath the large trees. They also sell soaps, lotions, and salt scrubs too. A great little day trip. Be sure to visit Morningsun Herb Farm just down the street to see their garden and nursery.

Yelp
This place is a real treat and it's semi-local to Sacramento for all of us. Well worth the drive. We thought the rows of lavender were very pretty and we picked a couple of bunches to take home. The prices are very reasonable. We recommend it to everyone and for sure our Sacramento friends.

Yelp
Love this place! I enjoy the events that they put on and the local food that is sold.

Yelp
They were closing up when we visited, but we will be back. They sell their eggs for $8 a dozen. I want to see what their farm fresh eggs tastes like. Someone in an earlier post made a good point. -When did the eggs hatch? -Are they refrigerated since it's very hot outside during the summer? -Should you eat these kind of eggs if your immune system is compromised? Does anyone know the answers to these questions? Thanks

Yelp
Photos at the farm- I've only visited this cute farm as a place to reserve and take portraits. The property is so lovely to photograph! The olive grove has such dreamy light and the summer lavender fields are a perfect backdrop. The reservation fee is very reasonable. I definitely recommend having your photos done here!

Yelp
Farm fresh eggs! I've been looking for a place that sold fresh eggs and came across this place on yelp. I called ahead on a Sunday morning and was delighted to hear that they had 2 dozen left. The farm is located on Pleasant Valley Road, not too far from I-80 and Pena Adobe. We were greeted by two friendly dogs and the lady there told us that the eggs were right by the road and payment was based on the honor system. The fresh eggs were boxed up in a cute lil' cabinet and a mason jar was off on the side so you can leave your cash. Not sure if they refrigerate it during the hot summer months but its been fairly cold these days. Price is $8 per dozen and you'll notice the variety of colors for the eggs based on the breed of the chicken (from brown to pale yellow to bluish-green). We tried them when we got home and they're delicious! You can see AND taste the difference compared to store bought eggs, especially with the large, deep golden yolks. Will definitely be back for more!

Yelp
My sisters and I went here last summer. It was so much fun especially with the pandemic and lockdown; it felt so nice to be outside and pick lavender. The lavender smelled so lovely and the other products they were selling were great too. Very friendly atmosphere, limited amount of people (you had to make a reservation) due to the pandemic which made it feel safe. It was a hot day but totally worth it. Make sure to wear sunscreen and wear comfortable shoes. Bring your own bucket and/cutters if you have any (just in case they run out). They answer your questions if you have any and are very kind to talk to. Also, make sure to remember which types of lavender you want to use (cooking, crafting, etc.) The scenery and nature of it all was so beautiful and peaceful! Would definitely come back.

Yelp
So your logo is a chicken, but you no longer sell eggs, lame I was looking for fresh eggs and local honey, nether of which you have. Diversify

Yelp
I first heard about Soul Food Farm a few days ago when I got my weekly newsletter emailed from the Fatted Calf http://fattedcalf.com/ . In Berkeley, they were selling "Marinated Soul Food Farm Half Chickens" at the farmers' market; I bought two of them yesterday. Last night I found myself at Post Meridian, in Kensington http://www.yelp.com/biz/post-meridian-kensington . There was Soul Food Farm again: "Soul Food Farms pastured chicken leg with savory-sweet onion-apricot stuffing, thyme-garlic rice pilaf, lacinato kale & yellow crookneck squash." I ordered it and thought it was a smash hit. The chicken seemed exceptional to me. I'm very much looking forward to the half-chickens that are now in the fridge!! --- Added August 9: those half-chickens were simply fabulous. And I liked the Soul Food Farm egg that was served to me with a pork dish at Sea Salt last night. These guys really rock!

Yelp
These eggs are fresh and taste great! The yolks are a bright orange! Their olive oil is great too!

Yelp
The Eggs These are amazing little globes of goodness, the yolks are a rich and bright orange color, with glistening whites that separate easily. I've made deviled eggs, egg sandwiches, fried eggs and will be baking with them soon. They taste fresh and rich, with a nice egginess that doesn't have the tinge of metallic that I find sometimes in grocery store eggs. The Chickens The coup d'etat of all chickens I've had here in the United States. Chicken flavor that infuses every bite, every portion of the bird. I've been using SFF's chickens to roast and braise for 2 months now, and I am not going back to grocery store bought chickens. These taste like living, happy chickens that have run around in pastures, picking at little grubs and insects. These chickens taste like the ones I used to have in my childhood in different countries....the real deal. They're not large, they are lean, and have some of the best tasting roasted skin! One bird is more than enough for 3-4 people at about $6 per pound. Worth every penny. My local farmer's market carries the products, but we have been purchasing directly from the farm recently. You save a little from the middle man costs and you get to see the environment where your food is coming from.

Yelp
I wanted be be more conscientious about where my food comes from. I looked into finding a source for cruelty free eggs and chickens, finding Soul Food Farm online and subscribed to their CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program. I just got my first order of two pasture raised chickens and a dozen eggs. This is what all chicken and eggs should taste like. The eggs had, thick orange yolks that had a rich taste - way better than any supermarket egg. The chicken was juicy and lean. Not cheap. $6.50 for a dozen eggs and $6.50/pound of chicken

Yelp
The Eggs Whoa - I had no idea eggs were supposed to taste so darn good. The chickens at Soul Food Farm are Healthy - therefore the eggs are Healthy. Got it? Not just that, after eating their Eggs, I cannot buy out of the grocery store - even if they are the best and most expensive organic blah blah whatever you say eggs in the market. These Eggs are fresh (when I say fresh - they are usually laid within 24 hours of you getting them, in my experience so far they were laid the same morning I picked them up). They are delicious - CAUTION - once you try one you wont want to go back to the 3 week old 1.79 a dozen grocery store eggs that you are used to eating. The Olive oil This is hilarious but when I tasted the Olive oil fresh from the farms olives - I turned around and yelled to my mom "Mom - It tastes like real olives!" Delicious and clean so great tasting that you don't want to cook it, but tastes great cooked to. Very fragrant. Earthy, again, hard to go back to grocery olive oil after tasting this Olive oil. these are the only 2 things I have tried. and am IMPRESSED. 5 stars not only for the great, earthy and healthy food but the owners are pretty awesome too. Very friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
I'm fortunate to live in short driving distance of Soul Food Farm--I really like all they are trying to do in treating their birds with respect. You wouldn't know you can get eggs from just driving by. A simple sign says "Soul Food Farm". You drive down a short gravel driveway and are greeted by chickens and dogs. Look for an old, silver, tabletop refrigerator. Bring $5 cash, leave it in the container, take your eggs. If they're out of eggs, see if there's anyone in the egg washing house. They might have more. All in all, well worth $5 for local, fresh, free-range eggs.

Yelp
Picked up some eggs and they were great. It would be great if all farms operated like this onem

Yelp
I have attended several very unique events and classes here. Absolutely beautiful property. The owners are amazing: knowledgeable, ethical and imaginative. I have bought eggs and olive oil here for years and now cannot buy olive oil anywhere else now. It is so delicious.

Yelp
I went this Summer to get eggs was greeted by one of the farms strange guests staying over with them who tried to tell me about chickens and fertile eggs but he really had no idea. He pointed out the egg storage to me inside of an unplugged mini fridge. It was very hot out and I had no idea how old the eggs were since there was no date on the boxes or storage cont@iner. The eggs were $8 a dozen. Very pretty eggs. Would like to try something else later
google avatar

Yelp
Change your life and try their CSA. These are the best chickens and all its parts, and their eggs are divine. When I run out, I cannot bring myself to buy other chickens or eggs. Just no comparison to the quality and care that is put into this farm.
google avatar

Bethany W.

Yelp
They have a little fridge with the eggs in them for $6 a dozen. You have to preorder chickens. You can also buy olive oil.
google avatar

Zac O.

Yelp
Pricey but Nicey. You get what you pay for. If you have never enjoyed a real egg and have only known the flavor and texture off the pasty white eggs sold at the grocery store, please expand your horizons and try a free range egg. If not from here, though these are some damn fine eggs, from somewhere who carries a real egg freshly plucked from a happy chicken's ass. I have yet to try the chicken, but judging from the eggs, I am sure it is "The Ten Finger Lickin' Free Range Chicken."

Yelp
My husband and I were looking for nursery and drove past the Soul Food Farm sign advertising fresh eggs, so we turned around and drove in. It was the total farm experience with chickens surrounding our car. The eggs we got were DELICIOUS! We've been picking them up once a month! We love the taste. Can't wait to try the whole chickens. It is pricey ($6.00 a dozen) but totally worth it.

Yelp
Price warning- $5.00/dozen eggs and $10.00/person for tours. We just went this past weekend to Soul Food Farms in Vacaville, CA. I had heard about it on the local news channel about how the small business was started and the fire. I thought it would be fun to stop and support a local farmer, since we were going out that way to visit family. I was highly disappointed in the cost of the eggs. It was not listed anywhere on their website that it is $5.00/dozen eggs. I know this is a family owned and operated business but that is the most outrageous price for eggs, they should be advertised as golden eggs. Then when we opened up a carton of eggs, half were small eggs but the price was still the same. I was furious that they pull on the heart strings of the public about the story of the fire and how they struggled to make a comeback and are in no means in the black on the farm but to charge $5.00/dozen is absolutely outrageous. Then they charge $10.00/person a tour of the farm but it is suppose to include lunch, hopefully it would be some of the golden eggs. I was raised on a farm but moved to a city a couple of years ago and thought this would be fun to be on a farm again, but not so much. I am all for helping out the small businesses of America or I would not have wanted to take the 30 minute drive south of where we were headed to seek out this small family owned business. But when it comes to those outrageous prices and the size of what you are getting for $5.00/dozen is completely insane. I will not be recommending for anyone to take the time to drive down and see this place. I will personally stay with the store bought eggs, where I can get the most of my hard earned money. I am and still truly and completely disappointed in this place.

Yeh F.

Yelp
One of the only suppliers of REAL (pastured) eggs in San Francisco. To other farms: chickens are supposed to eat bugs. Advertising that your chickens have a 100% vegetarian diet to appeal to the vegans just tells me your eggs are crap. It's the same deal as restaurants advertising that their steak comes from corn-fed cows. No thanks.

Yelp
This review is for Soul Food Farm as an event site, something they have recently formalized by hiring their long time designer/photographer/event planner, Amber Johnston as the one official coordinator for events and weddings on the farm. We had our wedding here, and it was really a fantastic and beautiful place. We were so lucky to have found Amber Johnston to be our wedding coordinator. I don't think we could have been any happier with any place or any one else. This was the first and only venue we looked at. We knew it was prefect for us as soon as Alexis Koefoed, the owner and farmer, started walking us through the property. The farm is gorgeous. Working with Amber couldn't have been easier. She has a great sense of design, with an efficiency and organization that worked with ours. Amber had tons of ideas, was flexible when we had changes, and was fanatic with the vendors that we brought in, down to helping the caterer do last minute garnishes! She had immediate answers to all our questions and made what can seem like an interminable insurmountable day feel like a simple walk in the farm. It was a beautifully smooth and happy day for both of us! Thanks Amber and Alexis for everything!

Yelp
We had our wedding at Soul Food Farm on 5/21/16. Soul Food Farm is the perfect venue if you are going for a rustic, charming and vintage theme. It is an outdoor only space, but you have the option to rent an event tent from an outside company, which is what we did. When we first made a visit to the farm, we instantly fell in love with it's charm. There is a gorgeous olive orchard with an oak tree standing tall and beautiful in the middle and not to mention the beautiful lavender field that is in full bloom in the spring! Soul Food Farm is not a "wedding factory" and I think that's what we appreciated most about it. Amber, the venue's hospitality coordinator, was so helpful from day one. She knows everything there is to know about the farm and local vendors. She answered all of my many questions along the way and always presented a solution. The venue has a very fair price compared to other Bay Area venues and you can spend the night right on the farm in the awesome farm house, if you choose. Included, is even the option to have your guests camp out on the property! Amber is so organized and makes you feel at ease a midst all of the wedding stress! Overall, we are so pleased with how our wedding turned out! Soul Food Farm brought our wedding day dreams to a reality! THANK YOU Alexis and Amber!
