I've had Soul Lao twice while at Wandering Leaf. The food is delicious and unique, but the prices are a bit insane. It's one thing to charge for sauces (which, in my opinion, are needed for the crispy rice dishes), but charging $20 for a portion of rice, lettuce, and tofu seems a bit much.
That being said, the food is delicious. I had the Vegan Naem Khao (Crispy Coconut Rice, Tofu, Cilantro, Green Onions, Lettuce) and Fermented Soybean Sauce. The dish had a bit of a spicy kick to it, which was mellowed out by adding a wrap of bib lettuce. I wish the tofu had more flavor, as the tiny sauce cup wasn't enough to soak each piece and give them that boost.
My husband had the O.G Wings (Double Fried, O.G Sauce, Whole Wings), they were "crispy as all heck" and the sauce was delicious. He enjoyed the fact that they were served whole as well.
When I went to pick up my order, the space was well laid out and cute. There were a few tables for folks to eat in but most of the line was pickup orders. Because the space is so small, I did end up being stuck behind a couple who were deciding on their order, so I think some signage/direction for ordering in versus picking up would be helpful.
