"Souley Vegan, the Oakland restaurant that serves vegan soul food dishes, is now closed after 14 years in business, East Bay Nosh reports. It’s the end of an era for the restaurant that helped popularize vegan soul food in the Bay Area. Chef and owner Tamearra Dyson opened Souley Vegan in 2009 at 301 Broadway, becoming popular in vegetarian and vegan circles for dishes such as her Soul Food Platter with fried tofu, red beans and rice, and cashew mac and cheese. Her Creole food helped Oakland become recognized as one of the top Vegan Cities in the country and even garnered a visit from Guy Fieri and his TV show, Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Dyson expanded Souley Vegan in 2020 into other parts of the West Coast, adding ghost kitchen outlets in Los Angeles and Las Vegas." - Dianne de Guzman

My first time ordering yesterday. I had no clue it was a ghost kitchen and finding parking was very annoying. I went to the tablet to scan the email to pick up my order but it couldn’t it. I went to the counter and my order was ready for pickup. The okra gumbo over buttery grits was beyond delicious..definitely some of the best vegan gumbo I’ve had and affordable too. I also ordered the 3 items for $15(which I forgot to take a photo of) the fried tofu had crust like fried fish and Omg was it was tasty and crunchy. I’ve never liked tatter sauce but the vegan tarter was so yummy. The red beans and rice we so flavorful and cooked perfectly.. the only thing I didn’t like were the greens and I LOVE greens but these greens were somewhat sweet which wasn’t too my liking. I will definitely order again and bring someone with me so they can drive around while I pick up the order

This is a ghost kitchen! There are a few small tables outside if you want to eat there - just a heads up. I had a good experience ordering my food on DoorDash - everything was ready on time and pick-up was easy, including finding a street parking spot right out front. This was a Monday night, I assume later in the week it can be more busy. I ordered the Ain't Gator Po Boy for myself and the Chik'n Seitan Po Boy for my partner. Since both sandwiches came with fries on the side I also got a side of ranch (because ketchup is boring ;)). The food was all great - everything tasted really good, including the fries and ranch sauce. It's certainly not the healthiest option but sometimes you gotta splurge. I would certainly return and will update my review after trying more of the menu!

I placed an order online, was told it would soon be ready. Was then told it would be ready in 1 minute, shortly after it said order delayed. Thus was after scanning the qr code at the pick up location. After waiting in total for over an hour and trying to call, I was finally able to speak with someone at the pick up location who told me Souley Vegan was closed. I have now been charged over $60 for the food I ordered for my children and myself and am trying to get refund. We stopped there for what was planned to be our last meal while on vacation in LA, we had planned to drive to the next destination on our way home after we ate. We ended up having to cancel our next room and scramble to find a place to stay in LA for the night as this put us behind schedule and I still needed to feed my children. We had truly looked forward to trying Souley Vegan, instead I ended up spending hundreds of dollars more on our trip for food and hotels... I have tried contacting doordash and souley vegan for a refund with no success, I have now had to dispute with my credit card company. Souley Vegan needs to fix there order platform to assure this doesn't happen to anyone else....

The food was very good. This was my first time experiencing something that was automated like how this was. The food was good and plenty. I got black olive potato salad, Ain't gator poboys, loaded Cajun fries and bbq tofu. The bbq tofu was a little too saucey, but had reminiscence of burnt ends.

I love the red beans and rice at the L.A. store, as well the collard greens, cornbread, mashed sweet potatoes, cayenne lemonade, beignets, and more. SV -- Thank you for making this amazing food and for sharing it with those of us who've never been to the South. And thank you most of all for doing it in a way which is kind to the animals:)))
