10 New Restaurants in Broward County to Check Out Right Now

"A little bit of Louisiana has arrived in Pompano Beach thanks to South Bar & Kitchen. Tucked in the town’s “Old Town” area – a stone’s throw from Bailey Contemporary Arts – its vibe is sultry with green velvet booths and gold-trimmed lights. Its fare is equally alluring, like a BLT made with pork belly and the Boudin Balls, croquettes stuffed with cajun roasted pork and topped with pepper jelly." - Jesse Scott

I enjoyed the ultimate brunch with a party of 4. We had to sit inside because of the rainy weather. However, the inside atmosphere was nice. They had a live DJ. The music was a little too loud for my liking to be inside. I could barely hear the person speak sitting next to me. Our waitress was very attentive and gave us some awesome recommendations as first-timers. We tried a variety of dishes and were pleased with the majority of them. My advice is when planning to visit to make reservations and try the mix and match bottomless. The drinks really creep up on you, so drink responsibly.

Definitely a 10 out of 10! Wonderful customer service from the moment that I walked in the door! The hostess was super sweet and accommodating. My waiter Pierre was the absolute best! You can tell that he loves his job. He helped me navigate the menu and did everything with a smile and the most pleasant demeanor. I asked another waiter for plasticware and he was very eager to help even though I was not in his section. I passed by the manager in the ladies room and she also was friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be in the restaurant. Now to the food! Each and every dish was phenomenal. The flavors! The presentation! You must come here hungry so you can try everything on the Ultimate Brunch menu. This restaurant is a huge win for this area. This was an amazing culinary treat.

South Bar is located in Downtown Pompano Beach, this restaurant offers delicious cajun and creole Louisiana style flavors, which makes this establishment so rare and unique. The ambiance, lavish green velvety bench seating adds the perfect touch to this upscale eatery. Outside seating is also available under cool shaded patio or a huge tree with sparkling lights. There is live music but we went on a rainy South Florida day, so no band was present at the time. Breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner is offered all day. Happy hour on weekdays, as well. Prices are very reasonable. We ordered deviled eggs, biscuits, fried fish and grits, monk fish, salmon dish red peas and rice with lots of wine. We had an amazing time and will definitely be back to enjoy the live music.

Google
We visited South Bar and Kitchen in Pompano for happy hour and ended up staying for dinner and it was definitely worth it! The prickly pear old-fashioned was unique and delicious, and the food overall was fantastic. We had the pimento burger with fries, which was absolutely perfect, and the gumbo was a standout flavorful, well-seasoned, and with just the right amount of kick. We ordered everything off the happy hour menu to sample a variety, and most dishes were a hit. The pimento cheese dip and the boudin balls were excellent. The only thing we didn’t care for were the deviled eggs they just didn’t wow us the way the other dishes did. The service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was beautiful chic, modern, and thoughtfully designed. It’s a great spot to unwind with a nice vibe for any occasion. South Bar and Kitchen is definitely back on our list, and we’re looking forward to returning

South Bar & Kitchen stands out as a vibrant addition to Pompano Beach's dining scene. Its fusion of Southern flavors, inviting ambiance, and live entertainment make it a compelling choice for both locals and visitors. Whether you're seeking a casual brunch, a lively dinner, or a night out with friends, South Bar & Kitchen offers a memorable experience. I am vegan, and they made some substitution to accommodate a dish for me. Thank you,

Google
Came for happy hour...good vibes and music. Our server was Maya and she was super attentive. Our food and drinks came out in good time...it was fairly busy at the bar at this time so sat at the high top tables to enjoy the happy hour prices. Def would recommend the "Bless your heart" drink and the Boudin rolls

South Bar & Kitchen made my birthday a memorable, fun experience! The food was absolutely delicious. We had crab nuggets, pimento cheese, the yummy biscuits, and deviled eggs. Everything was served quickly. The waitress was super sweet and knowledgeable, and recommended the perfect dishes and drinks for my holiday-birthday celebration. I had the burrata and added grilled chicken and it was great! I would recommend adding the sauce meant for the biscuits onto the burrata for a nice extra layer of flavor. We had a great time, the restaurant was decorated beautifully, and the manager made sure to make our experience super fun and one to remember!

Yelp
I'd want to thank MAYA for going above and beyond to ensure that our brunch experience was exceptional. MAYA'S excellent service made all the difference." "Our server, MAYA was just fantastic. MAYA made excellent suggestions with a smile.

Yelp
Amazing First Experience at South Bar and Kitchen! What an outstanding first visit to South Bar and Kitchen! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with friendly, attentive service that made us feel right at home. Our waitress was incredibly sweet and really made our experience special. Now, let's talk about the food and drinks - absolutely delicious! The Spicy Chicken Sandwich was hands down one of the best I've ever had. The perfect balance of heat, flavor, and juiciness - I couldn't stop raving about it. My French 75 cocktail was equally impressive - probably one of the best versions I've ever had, and the presentation was top-notch. I also tried a side of Jalapeño Mac and Cheese, and wow - it was creamy, spicy, and totally addicting. The overall vibe of the place is fantastic, with a cute outdoor area perfect for hanging out. There's a great setup for games like cornhole, giant Jenga, and checkers, which makes it a fun spot for both dining and enjoying some downtime with friends. For the quality of food, drinks, and service, South Bar and Kitchen is an incredible value - well worth the price. I can't recommend this place enough. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Yelp
The food was pretty decent Service was ok waiter was all over the place Beautiful restaurant very cozy The only complaint I have is they need to pay more attention to dish washing. We had to return 4 glasses of juice because the glass wasn't cleaned properly .

Yelp
Although we made a table reservation, she and I decided to sit at the bar. Mixology: bartender stirred me a perfect martini so 5 stars Food: I had fhe mussels she had the southern salad. Very very good Service: Bit of a stumble here. Our bartender basically disappeared before we ordered our food. I mean we never saw him again fir the rest of the evening. Usually when a bartender ends a shift they will tell you about it and point to the person who is going to take care of you. Nope. He was gone. And the other bartenders seemed more preoccupied with tending to replenishing and cleanimg than serving. I had to flag down the manager to get our orders and check afterwards. I am being kind by withdrawing a star. Ambiamce: very good ambiance. Music is at the right decibel and pleasant. Good for date night and good for family and friends

Yelp
Such a vibe! Outside seating was so cute. The DJ kept the vibes going. Love the concept of this brunch- I've dined in restaurants that offer bottomless brunch items but they have been out of state. South bar definitely elevates the concept. Service was a bit slow. I do understand kitchens get backed up. Thankfully my sister and I just decided to do bottomless rose, where the server dropped off pitchers of the rose. if not I think we would have waited a long time to get our drinks bc my first round I got a mimosa with the intention of switching up my drinks but I changed my mind after I saw the delay. The deviled eggs were good but I didn't rush to finish the serving or re order. Crab beignets: the sauce is definitely the star. Without it they are bland. I wish there had been more flavor Jalapeño Mac & cheese: the jalapeño, bread crumb crunch on top is a nice touch. While the jalapeño flavor is there I was wishing for more spice. At first the Mac was too cheesy, I'm a fan of cheese but it was more like a velveeta cheese but I found myself going for more bites and finished it before I knew it The bacon was too chewy. Could have been cooked more Chicken and waffles lacked the hot honey they promoted Sweet potato waffle and biscuits were delicious! The pulled pork cornbread was just right. We had so much food but there was so many other food items we did not try. All in all, my big back enjoyed our dining experience. I definitely recommend !

Yelp
This place is gorgeous with a spacious outdoor seating area. We were greeted immediately and the server was very kind and attentive. The cocktails were pretty good, but the wine list could use some work (too much supermarket wine... no somm?). The food was really good, although my first choice was 86ed unfortunately. I had the New Orleans pasta and it was packed with flavor. The chicken was cooked perfectly... too many places can't nail a chicken breast, sadly, but this one was still juicy and very well seasoned. We were there for a special Christmas event and the kids had a great time. A free hot chocolate bar was a really nice touch. 4/5 for the food, but rounding up for the excellent service.

Yelp
Finally got a chance to check this place out and it did not disappoint! The toasted marshmallow espresso martinis were incredible! We also had the smoked beef carpaccio, sweet potato chips, burrata salad, and smoked ribs. Everything we ate was *CHEFS KISS* They have live music every third Friday of the month from 6-10pm and we happened to be there for it. The twinkle lights, cold weather, and open restaurant vibes was everything we needed for a relaxing mom's night out. We sat at the bar and had great attentive service. They have an open grassy area to play corn hole and maybe let your kids run around while you sip some delicious cocktails. I can't wait to go back again!!

Yelp
When looking for an good southern food restaurant for brunch and this is definitely the vibe ! Came here with a couple of friends and decor it's definitely there , feels like you're in Tennessee. For appetizers the biscuits and gravy was the whole table favorite we even order some gravy on the side for the main dishes . The chicken and waffles were good , comes with hot honey but it can be replaced; the chicken was good flavor but with the waffle it lacked of sauce/ honey so it was a bit dry . Work of the food was good, other than wasn't what it was expected from a place like this . The did a great job with our white sangria so that made up for it .

Yelp
South Bar and Kitchen is such a great new addition to the pompano area. The Location is the definition of a hidden gem as it's situated right off of Atlantic Blvd and if you don't pay attention you'l definitely miss it. The outdoor area is so naturally beautiful as it centered around a large tree that's been made a focal point of the decor. We went during brunch so I order the shrimp and grits, scrambled eggs, sausage and a waffle. All of which were delicious. I loved that the shrimp and grits were not overly seasoned. The deviled eggs could've had a bit more of that sweet and sour taste that I've come to expect when eating deviled eggs, however they were still good. The Sauce drizzled on the greats was just the right balance of savory to compliment the shrimp and the grits. I'm definitely looking forward to returning here and trying some additional items from the menu. I highly recommend making a reservation as it's currently become a new hot spot on the weekends!

Yelp
We had dinner with ten friends prior to going to a show. Everyone enjoyed the dinner. We were able to relax over dinner and still be on time for the show, just a couple of blocks away at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center. We ate in their lovely courtyard. We were a bit concerned when a musician began setting up right near our table. (We've been to restaurants where the music was so loud, we felt the need to text each other at a table for six. ) Not a concern here. The musician did not have amplifiers, and took requests from the diners. We could hear each other and enjoyed our meal and the musical entertainment.

Yelp
This place is a hidden GEM!!! the restaurant is very cute and trendy, very nice outdoor area with a beautiful in the middle. Our server was excellent, super attentive and friendly!! She made great recommendations. The drinks were also fantastic, I got a hurricane & espresso martini. The espresso martini even had a toasted marshmallow on top! I got the chicken sandwich which was excellent!!! Prices are very fair for great quality. I can't wait to return!!!

Yelp
Popped in for brunch this past weekend and WOW! The restaurant is absolutely fabulous and how chic is that bathroom?! Everything is eye candy from the moment you walk in. The hostess was very friendly and inviting. Our waitress was a delight and even the staff running the food were all so polite and full of smiles. Honestly I couldn't choose what to eat because the menu was full of amazing options. The fried green tomatoes were so yummy- perfectly crisp and not greasy and the roulade was delish! Those hashbrowns... that homemade biscuit... *drool* and my rose sangria . I cannot wait to go back and try their sweet potato pecan waffles! Truly if you are even thinking about trying this restaurant, just grab your keys and go, it is so worth it! Even if you are just going to sit and have a drink at the bar- the place is just so beautiful. Kuddos to the one with the design eye on this one!

Yelp
CUSTOMER BEWARE RAW CHICKEN SERVED! HEALTH VIOLATION Made open table reservations for a party of 6 and was seated in the outdoor patio area. At the time, it was busy! My guess is people found out about this place and their awesome brunch menus so it was packed! Our table ordered bottomless mimosas. Mya, our server, was great. Let me mention, at no point in time was our experience and this negative review a reflection of her. She appeared to be fairly new but she was upfront that the kitchen was backed up and wasn't sure how long it would take for our food to arrive. We placed an order of 4 Cesar salads with grilled chicken and it took over 40 minutes for it to arrive. 2 Cesar salads came and then a 3rd arrived shortly after. The 4th salad never came at all. However, one out of the three, salads appeared to be significant smaller and the presentation looked sad compared to the other 2. We told our server and asked for a new salad. Not sure if this ended up being a revengeful cook but what ended up being served to us was a Cesar salad with RAW, UNCOOKED chicken! After digging in and eating some of the dish to then realize there was uncooked chicken, we were completely disgusted and went inside to complain to the staff. It seemed to take a while for one of the managers come to talk to our table. Rachel, one of the managers, apologized for the food and offered anything we wanted from the menu. At that point, we were there for hours (not exaggerating) and our entire party went from being hungry to nauseous. We could not eat the other salads without being repulsed. Not only did the food take forever but to be served raw chicken?! It's a real disappointment because I ate here on one previous occasion and really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. After this recent visit, it solidified, none of the people in my party be returning guests. Also, I am not sure if the managers and staff here realize the significant health problems that come along with being served raw uncooked chicken. I am someone who has previously worked in the restaurant industry and our complaint / incident was not handled well. I would love to indulge in further details of our parties experience and look forward to being contacted by the business owner.

Yelp
I came here on Fourth of July right around the time they opened. Everyone I came in contact with was pretty friendly. I love the layout of the place. But not the fact that the bar is open from the inside and the outside so you have to fan away flies whole time you're eating. Happy hour was going on so I ordered a few drinks. One was a specialty cocktail that I actually liked a lot. Can't quite remember the name and the other one was old-fashioned, which was super strong and a bit spicy. I got a few appetizers one being the deviled eggs they weren't my favorite. Because the pink part that the filling went into had a rubbery texture. I would not order that again and the southern biscuits which I did like... For my entrée I ended up ordering the grits and short rib. The short rib was a bit salty, but really tender. The grits were super cheesy and ultra creamy. I always thought you could never have enough cheese in grits, but I was wrong... For me when they start to have a cheese pull that's too much cheese. Lastly, we ended with the banana pudding parfait which was really good. My mom enjoyed it very much. I think if it was acceptable to lick the cup she would have. I did want to try brunch one day...

Yelp
I first tried South Bar and Kitchen for a Silent Book Club meeting and at the time, had only tried the espresso martini and the crab beignets. Both left me wanting more! The espresso martini tasted amazing and the crab was top notch. Love the sauce it came with. Ended up coming back a month later for a Christmas event where they played the Grinch, had hot coco and had crafts for kids. I took the whole family and have zero regrets. What's normally a hectic time trying to wrangle kids, ended up being very relaxing and enjoyable. I had the gingerbread chai cocktail which was adorable and tasted perfect. As an appetizer my partner had the chowder and I had the smoked fish dip. For my entree, I chose the sage crab gnocchi and I was in absolute heaven. I could eat it every day and never get tired of it. My two kids had the kids grilled cheese and the kids chicken tenders. They like the fries but texturally I think it was a bit advanced for them because they were actually cooked properly with real non-processed ingredients (I ate their leftovers!) The service each time was great. Servers were attentive, polite, and make food recommendations. It's a bit pricey, our family meal with drinks was $200, but well worth it.

Yelp
We decided to come here for Sunday Brunch last weekend and it was great! The inside is really pretty with golds, greens and wood. The only thing was that it was kind of warm inside despite drinking cold drinks and having AC. They have a huge selection of cocktails but I decided on the South Spritz (Aperol, St Germain, elderflower liquor, champagne, Chinola, passionfruit liqueur, fever free tonic) and my boyfriend opted for the tangerine juice. After trying mine, he also got a South Spritz which they serve in a St Germain glass! For appetizers we got deviled eggs since I've never tried it before in my life. Let's just say that it was a bougier version of your average deviled eggs and I absolutely inhaled it. It's also so pretty since it's partially pink which is suspect it's from pickled onion juice for color? Not sure. We got two different Egg Benedicts. The fried green tomatoes and bacon one is a lighter option which was yum. The cajun crab cake version was a little heavier and extremely filling. They both came with their versions of crispy hash browns! SO CRISPY! The Egg Benedicts were a little different from what I'm used to since it didn't really have a lot of hollandaise sauce. They had a nice Southern twist to the dish. The service is great! Our waitress was really nice and fast. I want to come back for brunch or happy hour with a group next time! Also keep in mind the brunch items I ordered was on the heavier side so I had a nice nap after

Yelp
What an awesome place. Cool vibe, amazing service and spectacular food. Biscuits OMG! Also impressive fried chicken and beef sliders, crab beignets, Caesar salad, deviled eggs, Mac and cheese, and over the top desserts. Sunday "all u can eat" brunch is well worth the visit.

Yelp
I went on a Tuesday night during their 10 dollar chicken sandwich promotion. I parked right next to the restaurant and sat in the bar. I made a reservation from OpenTable, which was recognized. For the promotion, I had to buy a drink. The bartender recommended La Sandia (15 dollars), which was a tequila drink. While it was not a margarita, it was a nice refreshing drink with watermelon and basil I believe. I first didn't really taste much alcohol, but the buzz came afterwards. I ordered the spicy version of the chicken sandwich (16 dollars normally, but 10 dollars on Tuesday). It did come with fries or chips, but you could substitute a different side for 2 dollars more. I asked the fries to go. It did take some time to receive it, and it looked like both the sandwich and fries were in the to-go box. However, after mentioning the sandwich was for here, the bartender apologized and gave me a plate. I was very impressed by the spiciness of the sandwich. It indeed made me sweat and run my nose. The chicken was on the crispier side, but still delicious. I remember seeing pickles and possibly coleslaw inside as well, which helped ease the spiciness. But I wanted spicy and got exactly what I wanted! I didn't try the fries sadly, but it looked to be generous. I really hoped the housekeeping at my hotel took and enjoyed it. My bartender was friendly, and gave good suggestions. Even though my sandwich took some time, we were able to have a nice talk. The crowd was small and pretty quiet, but I won't be surprised if it gets larger during the weekends. There is outdoor seating as well, and the tree outside looked really nice. Since South Bar provided a truly spicy burger, this gets five stars. The drink was good too, and my bartender treated me well. I wasn't sure if the parking lot nearby was for the patrons, but there was parallel parking right at the restaurant. For the Tuesday 10 dollar chicken sandwich deal, I will definitely eat there again when I am in that area.

Yelp
We have been to Southern bar and kitchen several times and have enjoyed ourselves but last night they really made it so you don't wanna come back just because of the service and the management. The food was good as always it's not great, but it is very good food. We enjoyed our meal. It's still a beautiful restaurant and the live Music is great. Our server, who actually greeted us at the door as at the hostess stand sat us outside and he was very friendly. Once we ordered our drinks, It took 15 minutes for my drink to come out. My wife still had to wait 5 minutes long and when it did come to the table, he said oh there's confusion the bar is busy. The restaurant was not that busy and there are 2 bars. The waiter walked away again and then after we waited about 10 more minutes, he came back and asked if we were ready to order. We ordered two appetizers and said we'll order our dinner after the appetizers come. Our appetizers were brought to the table and as the service staff that brought it to the table walked away, We had to ask for plates, silverware, and napkins, as none were provided. As a we ate, a different server brought over two more drinks to our table. I advised this server we got the drinks already and did not order new ones. She gave us an attitude and just walked off with drinks. After we finished our appetizers,we waited about 10 more minutes to the point where I almost got up to get the server when he came back to ask how everything was and if we wanted to order our dinner. We ordered a salad and a hamburger. The server walked away again and then a short time later came back to our table with two more drinks and again said there was confusion at the bar here take these on the house although we told him we did not want them. He left them and said it's not gonna be on your check. I explained to him that somebody else brought two drinks which we did not want. He told us just take these. They will not be on your check. From that point, we never saw him again. Our food came out. The server never came back to see if we needed anything or if the food was OK. After we finished eating, we were just sitting there and finally stacked the plates in the middle of the table when another person came and cleared them. Again, no server no assistance from anyone to see if we needed anything. We sat there for another 5 to 10 minutes to the point where I finally had to get up go inside the restaurant being that we were sitting on the patio outside and ask another employee to find our server or give us our check. The server came out after another employee brought us her check and said that he is working the inside and outside and is very busy and was very sorry that no one came around . To make matters worse, we paid our check and asked the server to bring us a printed copy of the receipt. He never returned. A short time later a female manager with blonde hair came over and told us that she heard that we were upset. I explained to her what it happened and added I just want the receipt from our dinner. The manager advised she could not locate the receipt and then brought me a new check advising that she took the appetizers off and asked for my credit card. I handed my credit card and asked her what is she going to do and she said ring up my tab. I told her again do not put another charge on my card and showed her that it had already been deducted from my account for our meal. She walked off with my credit card and after waiting several minutes, I went inside looking for her. She came back, looked at me and goes here and just put my credit card back in my hand and walked off. We never got a receipt and we got an attitude from her because we didn't want free food. I just wanted my receipt. The management was wrong for getting an attitude with me when I was not making a scene or causing a problem. I didn't even ask for the manager and the service staff is very wrong For having tables that they can't handle and then neglecting them to the point where the customer has to get up and asked for service.

Yelp
The food was great. Despite a crisis in kitchen the servers did a wonderful job at being polite. The music good along with TV with the game. I would definitely go back. My only advice is to get there early and make reservations.

Yelp
Overall it's not a bad spot! The restaurant is beautiful and has indoor and outdoor seating. Be mindful outdoor seating comes with flies and nuts and sticks on tables. The service was a bit slow, it didn't seemed fully staffed but everyone was friendly. The food had a bit of a kick! For example, the syrup with the chicken and waffles has a spicy hint. The spicy chicken sandwich will fulfill its name. The crab cake was my favorite item for sure. It seems like a nice date spot or location for gathering with friends.

Yelp
Great first time experience! Made reservations on a Friday and we're seated promptly and even received a text that our table was ready as we we're driving. The location is in up and coming Pompano Beach off of Dixie highway. It's giving a baby Wynwood vibe. We opted to sit outside as the weather was comfortable. There was a great vibe and energy with the outdoor seating. We were sat under an old tree and it was cool. Live music was nice on a Friday. The service was exceptional and friendly. Everyone was working together and it was efficient. The food was great. We had several apps and with the exception of one were all hits. The crab cakes is a must as well as the Cajun tuna app. The chicken biscuit was the only disappointment. The reason was because the biscuit came out burnt as apparently they put it on the grill to give it a smoke taste.....didn't hit for me. The fried chicken on the biscuit was decent but I couldn't get over the disappointment of the biscuit as that's one of the things their know for. We also ordered the fish sandwich which was grilled mahi and I must say that was ocean fresh. Absolutely delicious and especially the slaw they use on the bun. Opted for Cajun fries and that was fantastic. Nice kick. We also tried the sweet potato casserole and it was flavorful and a hit too. No complaints on the signature cocktails. Overall a great experience.

Yelp
What a surprise! As I approached the restaurant, I was apprehensive. But upon turning the corner, my heart beat faster because I was excited! Across from a beautiful new apartment building was this contemporary, well designed restaurant. I walked inside, and was awed! We were quickly seated and our sweet, attentive server, Alissa, was moments behind us. We had some happy hour drinks and apps, which included an outstanding gumbo, even though it lacked okra. It was topped with rice, well-seasoned, hearty and delicious. My friend ordered the blue crab beignets, despite being fried (my issue always, but that's how you make them) I loved them! I also got the seared tuna. The tuna was fresh and tender, but I yearned for the flavors promised... My friends split a dish, short ribs and grits, and lived every bite. My girlfriend ordered the grilled fish, mahi. While the flavor was good, it was slightly overcooked but the corn and steamed vegetables were quite well prepared. Everyone loved the collard greens as well. We closed the evening with a banana pudding that was good, but had a tad too much whipped cream. The ambiance, certainly casual, was very tasteful and welcoming. I got a space in the street, but I'm not sure what other parking is available. There's a lot across the street but it's marked tow away zone. Check before parking. I'll be back. Good place to eat and hang out!

Yelp
I was going to wait to review until my second visit. However the truth of the matter is, is that they're a way too many to places we want to try and others we want to revisit, so the chances of us returning to this spot after our experience is slim to none. We were excited to try this spot as we love one of their sister restaurants. But sadly we left underwhelmed and disappointed. Parking: street or valet Ambiance: lovely outdoor seating Service: started off well enough and went downhill from there Food flavor: mediocre at best Food temperature: room temp. to warm at best We won't be returning.

Yelp
Very nice experience here with my book club last night! Our large group was given spacious seating at several tables. We had a few servers dedicated to our group who were all friendly and attentive. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. This experience was far better than my last visit with another group. We were seated like sardines with one server for 20+ people. The food and drinks were good but the service was terrible.

Yelp
I was meeting with friends for lunch and one of them had heard this place was good so we made a reservation. There is a parking lot right across from it so easy. The building is bright and airy. You can tell it could be really fun for happy hour. Our waitress was very friendly and check on us many times to make sure we were good. Throughout the time we were there - she also didn't make us feel rushed. I split the fried green tomatoes and a chicken sandwich (spicy) with one of my friends. Lots of food! There was enough fried green tomatoes for all 3 of us. They were good and good seasoning in the batter used. The fried chicken sandwich was juicy and lots of seasoning. It wasn't battered so it wasn't as heavy. we get the sweet potato chips as the side - I highly recommend those! Cute place!!

Yelp
Beautiful space & great atmosphere! I love that the large bar has seating both inside and outside, and it opens up to a courtyard covered by twinkle lights. There was a live jazz player on Thursday night. For these reasons alone, it's a great place to come for a drink on a nice evening. The bar service was great. Their happy hour drink specials are pretty good, and the $7 Gumbo of the Day is a great deal. They are not on the happy hour menu, but I can't recommend the biscuits enough! They are soooo buttery and delicious with a slightly sweet crust on top. My husband ordered the spare ribs, which were pretty average. I'd have to come back again to try more of their food, which I plan to do. This is definitely a spot worth checking out in Pompano!

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of this bar and can't figure out why it's never packed when I come. The ambiance is great, they have a beautiful patio section to sit in. The bartenders are friendly and the drink selection is abundant and has a lot of exciting choices. The food is a modern version of southern comfort food. Super delicious with nice portions. I've been here twice, sat at the bar both times without having to wait which I especially love.

Yelp
Absolutely love this restaurant's food and ambiance. Their outdoor is setting is a perfect spot for a casual or celebratory dinner. Their mango mule is a fantastic cocktail. For food, highly recommend the crab beignets. Their little chicken biscuit was good, a little on the dry side. For entrees, the burger with the bacon jam is phenomenal, definitely top 10 burgers I've had in my life. Sweet potato chips were thin and perfectly crisp. I can't wait to come back to try more of their food and drink!

Yelp
8/2/2023 - Happy Hour review. Met two friends here during happy hour. Parking was not a problem. There is plenty right in front as of now. I did see a big apartment building getting ready to open soon so it might get busy. But this day it wasn't. My friend got a high four top in front of the bar. As soon as you walk in, it feels like a swanky New York hotel. They did a beautiful job with the decor. The seating is very trendy with an emerald green upholstery and antique brass lighting. Our bartender Jeremy was on it. He came by and I ordered the a glass of red wine. My friend who was siping on hers recommended it. As soon as our other friend arrived, Jeremy came right away and got her order. We put it a couple of appetizers from their happy hour menu. We ordered the Deviled Eggs, the Boudin and their Burrata Salad. The Boudin balls didn't look appetizing but they were quite tasty. Happy hour is weekdays 4pm-7pm. Can't wait until we get cooler weather to sit on their patio under the beautiful tree.

Yelp
Nice newer spot. Been wanting to check this out for some time since they've opened. Came in on Friday night, place was busy but not crowded. They have inside and outside seating, but it's still warm & buggy outside to eat. They had a live band outside. We started with some drinks and opted for the deviled eggs and pimento cheese dip. Two great options to start. So far, so good. Had a few things for entrees that sounded enticing but let the waitress pick. I got the salmon, which was tasty and well seasoned. It was good, wish I would have gone with one of my own picks. Wife went with the mussels, she enjoyed them and said they were fresh and cooked in a good sauce. Of course, to my liking we had desert, wanted the brownie (they ran out) so second choice was the cheesecake. It was good, not great. Should have tried the banana pudding. But asked for the recommendation and was told it was ok. Good spot, nice staff, good selections and good food. We'll be back.

Yelp
I was surprised by the negative reviews. It is a beautiful property and very nicely decorated with a huge bar and amazing outdoor area. The hostesses were super friendly and nice. We had the deviled eggs and biscuits as appetizers. Both were great with beautiful presentation. For dinner, I had short rib and grits which was amazing and I'm a grits snob. Great flavors and the service was great too. I'd highly recommend it. If it wasn't so far away for us, it would be my hangout spot!

Yelp
South Bar & Kitchen is a new place located smack dab in the center of Pompano's Historic District. Unfortunately, we arrived on a Saturday night, and the place was super packed. We were warmly greeted, had reservations, and arrived precisely on time but no seats were available. The bar was also fully occupied and the noise of the crowd inside was deafening. So, we ended up standing outside waiting for about half an hour until we saw a couple leave an outdoor table which we immediately grabbed, telling our hostess about it after the fact, but she was fine with it. To start, Partner ordered his usual scotch on the rocks while I had my typical Bacardi and soda with lime. It took forever from the time we ordered until our drinks arrived. But, when they did arrive, they were good. I then had an appetizer of deviled eggs with Cajun whipped yolks, smoked trout roe, chicken cracklings, and green onions. Though the trout roe didn't seem to produce much flavor, the eggs were overall delicious. For a salad, I had their Caesar with buttermilk Caesar dressing and parmesan. It had a good taste to it, rather different from most in that it was of a fine chopped instead of full leaf hearts of romaine. For food, I ordered their Beer and Bacon Mussels. Again, a painfully long wait. Partner complained to a gentleman about the wait time, which gentleman turned out to be the owner who gave partner a free drink, but for me, nothing. So, in the future, I'm going to be the first wheel to squeak; so to speak. LOL! When my Beer and Bacon Mussels finally arrived, they were super good with large Canadian Prince Edward Island Mussels, done in Abita beer with applewood smoked bacon, caramelized onions, and sided with ciabatta bread. Really delicious. You really can't help but like the outdoor atmosphere of the place, especially if setting on the back deck under the huge spreading tree. However, when a place has no respect for your prior reservations or such painfully slow service, I certainly can't go five stars on it or recommend it.

Yelp
Food was great, bartender/waiter was AMAZING. We had boudain rolls, crab beignets, shrimp and grits and pimento burger.

Yelp
The food is good enough. The staff is very friendly. The deviled eggs were tasty. I would like to explore the menu more.

Yelp

Yelp
Came with family for dinner. We sat outside at high top tables for happy hour. The tree in the center of the outdoor patio had lighted balls that were really festive. Green and purple. Ashley was our server. For drinks, I had an old town fashion. It was made with a prickly pear syrup and decorated with a dried red orange slice. The cocktail was delicious. For appetizers, our table shared fried green tomatoes and the pimento dip. The fried green tomato aioli side was perfect amount of heat. The pimento dip was delicious. The lavash chips were tasty. The pickled pimento, pickled red onion and pickles were so very good. They had a floral tone to it. Both were really excellent. For dinner I had the. The Southerner salad. This also had the yummy pickled okra. The unexpected star was the spiced hominy crisp croutons on top. The only downside was that the dressing didn't come with the meals. My family began eating while I had to wait. Finally, my brother went to get someone. They brought the vinaigrette and I was able to enjoy the salad which was really good. I'd recommend the Southerner salad. The po boys reportedly were delicious and the buns were light and not too dense. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Going downhill fast. No wonder why the place is no longer busy on weekdays. We ordered a $54 filet medium well. It was well done, no pink. The waitress did not check on us after food was served, but we waved down the pleasant food runner who took back the steak. At that point, a manager SHOULD have stopped by our table with an apology and a promise to make things right. NOPE! No manager, waitress avoided us....20 minutes later a new steak arrived which was properly prepared, but WASNT A FILET, it was a NY strip steak. My point is a manager should have stepped in and assisted when there is a problem. We spent over $100, and decided we won't be back for quite a while, even though we live 5 minutes away. Owners need to know the manager is not doing their job.

Yelp
The food wasn't bad, but I believe this establishment is overpriced. Service was good but slow.. Indoor and outdoor ambiance was perfect though! My husband really enjoyed his shrimp po' boy. The craw daddy pasta needed more Cajun cream sauce. Overall, I wasn't as impressed as I had hope I would be!

Yelp
Where do I begin? The food was amazing! The ambiance is laid back chill. They have tv's and a deejay on the patio. The customer service is top notch! If you're in the area and you need a place for brunch to chill and eat good you won't be disappointed! The drinks are good too !

Yelp
We were meeting our son for lunch who was staying in Hallandale and we live in Delray so we wanted a place midway. I had read about South Bar & Kitchen from Mike Linder's outstanding stable of restaurants. They are only open for lunch/brunch on the weekends. A really beautiful restaurant with a great outdoor seating area. Very nice and unusual menu. Definitely southern. Really 4 1/2 *s My wife ordered the Sweet Potato Pecan Waffle, sweet potato waffle, pecan praline crumble, brown sugar maple glaze, and vanilla bean bourbon whipped cream. Very good. I opted for the That's the Jam ,8oz homestyle patty, candied bacon jam, sweet grass tomme cheese, roasted garlic mayo, and arugula on a toasted brioche bun. Comes a choice of fries, truffle, cajon, or regular, very good burger. Also had to try the South Sticky Buns, rolled and glazed sweet dough, pecans, and warm caramel, really good. Can't wait to come back for dinner and try their other Southern specialties.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance, decor and food here. It's a fun and hip restaurant with a great happy hour menu from 4-7 PM daily. The parking is a bit sparse around the streets but there is a lot right across from the restaurant. The staff is a little slow to come by and take your order but the food is brought out quickly. It is open air with the bar area so sometimes there may be flies roaming around so you may have to battle them for your food. We started with a beer and a bourdeaux off the HH menu. Nice pours. Then tried the Deviled Eggs which were very unique with the masago and chicharrons. The boudin balls were really good! The pepper jam sauce was delightful and the sweetness complimented the crispy savory meatballs well. The gumbo was super flavorful. Very small portion but perfect to give it a try if you're not sure you want a whole dinner portion. The sausages inside were delicious. Off the regular menu, we had the Craw Daddy which is what I had my eye on and the reason I came into South Bar. It didn't disappoint. Cute little fried crawfish tails on top mixed with creamy rich carbonara like noodles and boiled crawfish tails underneath. It was so, so amazing. I still thinking about it. Will definitely want it again. Great place to catch up with friends or have a date.

Yelp
Even though South Bar & Kitchen has only been open for several months, it has definitely found its groove in a transitional area. Today was an overcast winter, albeit SoFla, day but that meant a breezy comfortable lunch on the partially covered patio listening to live music while sipping on a cocktail. South has a good selection of creative cocktails and if our Gin and Jam, and Old Fashioned Breakfast are a tasty testimonial to the rest of the menu...it's an easy way to turn a few hours, especially when the food is enjoyable. Lunch or dinner out isn't just about taste, it should be at least a bit fun to eat as well. I only mentioned the backyard garden party vibing patio seating area, but the inside is spacious and stylish...something for any civilized person looking to hang with friends. Really a beautiful relaxing looking place and our waitress, Christine was wonderful. We started with Deviled Eggs, topped with smoked trout roe and crumbled chicken crackling. Oh, and I believe the took a beet juice bath beforehand. My wife ordered the B.E.C. Biscuits, which were crispy crumbly good...a base of thick cut bacon, rest a baked egg on that unctuous thick slab of bacon, then top it with some cheddar and shingle the biscuit top...and hit the salamander to create meltage. It comes with their house made hashbrowns, which resemble triangular tater-tots. She got sliced watermelon on the side. I ordered the southern fried chicken sandwich, which came on a brioche bun with garlic mayo, topped with shredded iceberg lettuce and pickle chips. I opted for the hashbrowns as their french-fries are frozen. The seasoning on the fried chicken fillet was quite subtle, not to say bland just not a heavy hand. I don't generally enjoy iceberg lettuce, but this shredded amount offered a fresh juxtaposition to the fried chicken. Likewise, the lightly pickled pickle chips offered the necessary acidic break from the glorious fattiness of the crispy fried chicken. I enjoyed my sandwich and would recommend it to others. I would try their spicy version next time...although it will have to wait until I work my way through some other menu offerings first. Those triangular tater-tot looking hashbrowns were addictive...fingers just kept reaching in... Our first visit was quite successful and we shall return. Get there people, get there.
