Inventive Southern classics, with a popular brunch, in upscale settings
"South City Kitchen has rightly earned classic status for its Southern staples (fried chicken livers, pulled pork, BBQ shrimp, etc). Yet above it all, the crisp, juicy fried chicken is our favorite order here (it appears on our fried chicken guide for a reason). The Smyrna branch from the small chain is no exception. The mood is low-key and the crowd is a general mix, so whether you’re coming from a boardroom or a ball game, it all meshes here. Just know the complimentary cornbread and biscuit basket will still be comforting start to your meal." - jacinta howard, juli horsford, nina reeder
"South City Kitchen is an Atlanta classic for a reason—mainly because the fried chicken, grilled pork chops, and fried green tomatoes are always hitting. The chicken’s light, crunchy breading doesn’t overdo it, and when you pair it with the complimentary basket of fluffy cornbread and moist biscuits, you’re basically halfway to a nap. Come for a laid-back lunch surrounded by suits or show up for dinner when the crowd gets a little dressier but the comfort food stays the same." - jacinta howard, juli horsford, nina reeder
"In business for more than 20 years, South City Kitchen now includes multiple locations throughout Atlanta and metro Atlanta. This fried chicken is a fine rendition (possibly the best in Atlanta), dressed up with garlic collard greens, smashed red bliss potatoes, and honey-thyme jus. It is a must-order. Also, try the fried chicken and waffles." - Eater Staff
"The Midtown, Vinings, and Buckhead locations of South City Kitchen offer a prix-fixe menu Thanksgiving feast to include fried chicken and shrimp and grits, as well as turkey and other traditional dishes of the day. $79 a person and $39 for children. Reservations encouraged." - Eater Staff
"South City Kitchen satisfies those southern cravings in a plush, warmly lit space on the border of Vinings and Smyrna. The menu is composed of regional classics such as she-crab soup or juicy fried chicken served with collard greens, red bliss potatoes, and honey-thyme jus. The restaurant also has locations in Midtown, Buckhead, and Alpharetta." - Lia Picard
