The 14 Best Fried Chicken Spots In Atlanta - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"South City Kitchen, which has several locations around town, is an Atlanta classic with great Southern staples like fried green tomatoes and grilled pork chops. With this down-home menu in a fine dining setting, their fried chicken has to come correct. It does. There is nothing too complex here—it's consistently crunchy with a very light seasoning and breading that isn’t too thick. Coupled with a complimentary basket of pillowy cornbread and soft biscuits, it's an anytime-is-a-good-time comfort meal. Expect to sit with a business crowd at lunch and dressed-down tourists and pre-theater patrons at dinner." - jacinta howard

South City Kitchen Buckhead - Review - Buckhead - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"South City Kitchen is an Atlanta classic because of its great Southern staples like fried green tomatoes, grilled pork chops, and crunchy fried chicken. They have several locations around town, but we prefer this Buckhead location because they do their chicken the best here. It comes with a very light seasoning and breading that isn’t too thick. Coupled with the complimentary basket of fluffy cornbread and moist biscuits, it's an anytime comfort meal in an atmosphere that fills with suits and casual groups at lunch and a more formally dressed crowd at dinner. 13 Great Restaurants Open On Thanksgiving Day In Atlanta

"People who hate eating turkey will like the three-course prix fixe menu at the South City Kitchen spots (Midtown, Buckhead, or Vinings). The first two courses have nine options each, and only one of 'em contains the famous holiday bird. Finish with dessert options like their pumpkin cheesecake and chocolate pecan pie, and this $75 per person Southern meal might tempt you to skip the family gathering next year, too." - nina reeder, juli horsford

The food here was delicious, and what really stood out to us was the atmosphere. The wait time was reasonable, and since we weren’t in a rush and went on a weekend, it worked out nicely. We also enjoyed spending some time in the lounge before sitting at the bar. The bar itself was impressive and offered good service. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely come back

I was visiting from out of town. Nice vibe. Great drinks. The food was horrible. Mashed potatoes were runny and tasted like pure margarine. Undercooked chicken. Sitting at the bar, I let the bartender know my food was undercooked. She tried to say it was the bone. No ma'am, this meat had blood running through it. Very disappointing for an ATL soul food restaurant.

This was my first time at South City Kitchen after hearing superb reviews for YEARS! My first visit did not disappoint and the friend green tomatoes and Salmon may have been two of my favorite meals in Atlanta, thus far! If you’re ever in the Buckhead area, you should definitely stop by!

Our server was very well versed in the history and techniques of the food we ordered. The food was good, but just decent by traditional southern standard. If you enjoy a clean eat, this fare is just for you. I had the coconut rice and the mac & cheese. The best part of the rice dish was the deep fried crispy black eyed peas. I never in my life encountered such a flavor in a bean. Our server asked the chef to come to our table so we could discuss how the peas were prepared. Phenomenal. The mac & chese was rich and well baked. My wife got the Pork Chops with corn succatash and asparagus. She was not thrilled with the succatash but like the rest of her meal.

Google
Food was ok, we had appetizers…the biscuits and cornbread were good. The fried tomatoes were great, the chicken bites were ok. The banana pudding was the worse I’ve had… The service was good. I would go back to try the chicken & waffles before I would say, I wouldn’t go back. The restaurant was very busy, so there is something good about this restaurant.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Outstanding – Beyond Five Stars! From the moment we walked through the doors of South City Kitchen, it was clear we were in for something special. This wasn’t just dinner — it was an experience. ✨ A Host with True Hospitality Shadi at the host stand set the tone for the entire evening. Warm, gracious, and genuinely attentive, Shadi went above and beyond from the very first hello. It felt like we were being welcomed into a friend’s home rather than a restaurant. Every detail was handled with care and thoughtfulness, and that kind of hospitality makes all the difference. 🍷 Service That Defines Excellence Upstairs, our server Jay elevated our very important team-building dinner into an unforgettable evening. Her balance of professionalism, warmth, and attentiveness was nothing short of remarkable. She anticipated needs before we even voiced them, kept the energy at the table flowing with ease, and somehow made each person feel personally taken care of. Team dinners can be tricky — but Jay turned ours into a seamless, joyful celebration. 🥘 Food & Atmosphere Of course, the food was spectacular — soulful, flavorful Southern cuisine prepared with modern finesse and heart. The atmosphere carried the perfect blend of elegance and comfort, making it ideal for both business and pleasure. 🌟 The Verdict South City Kitchen didn’t just provide a meal, it created a memory. Thanks to Shadi and Jay, our dinner became one of those rare evenings that everyone will be talking about for a long time. If you’re looking for impeccable service, extraordinary food, and genuine Southern hospitality, look no further. South City Kitchen is not just a restaurant — it’s the gold standard.

Google
Quickly becoming my favorite brunch spot in the city. I’ve stopped by multiple times whenever I’m in the city and I’ve never had a bad experience except that one time when they didn’t have the ingredients for what I wanted, but otherwise 10/10 experience. I’ve been seated upstairs and in their private rooms as well, and enjoyed myself each time. The dining area upstairs is a bit congested tho. The grits has got to be my favorite. It can get very busy so definitely make reservations. They have valet as well, but it can be tricky to locate depending on where you’re coming from.

Have visited several times and the food, cocktails and service are usually all excellent, unfortunately last time they served undercooked chicken, but the service / response was good. Still worth a visit.

Yelp
Talk about an experience. The service here makes Chick-Fil-A look like Popeyes customer service...not really but I'm trying to use hyperbole. Our server was 10/5 stars. She checked on us, kept a smile on her face, and took care of us thoroughly during our experience at South City Kitchen - Buckhead. She made great recommendations and we enjoyed every bit of it, such as: Appetizers: Our waitress recommended the Fried Green Tomatoes -- I will admit, I wasn't thrilled about trying them as we have locations back home that serves really good tomatoes. But lawd was I blindsided when they came out and I got a taste! They're like seasoned FGT with a hint of mozzarella coating -- the red pepper coulis? 10/10. What I WAS excited for was the Blueberry Buckle and we were NOT disappointed. We're not big fans of overly sweetened pastries/desserts and this hit the nail on the head. The blueberry scones were soft and moist enough for a scone. The lemon zest and the cultured cream made it perfect, don't let anyone else tell you different. For the entrees, queen had The King Biscuit and I had the chicken & waffles which did take a while to come out....only because the chef didn't like the way the original waffle came out. Seriously, you have to love the pride that these people take in their work. Most spots will just sent a little nasty waffle your way and keep it moving -- not South City Kitchen. Oh, it's nestled right into a high-rise building across from a large parking garage. With beautiful outdoor views or indoor dining if it's your taste. Overall/TLDR: We will return and you should visit.

Yelp
Biscuit - it taste amazing with the apple butter. Has a nice salty taste to it as well. Cornbread - this is the best cornbread that I've had. It has a sweet cinnamon taste in small chunks of corn. Very sweet and delicious. SCA Crab Cake GA - very soft texture inside. A little bit of sweetness from the red wine vinaigrette and it also comes with celeriac and brussels that give a nice balance of the dish. Fried Green Tomato - remind me like a fried mozzarella stick. The outside is very crunchy. Sprinter Mountain Fried Chicken and Buttermilk Waffle - the chicken is super crispy and season well. This is literally the best waffles I've had in my life. I was super crispy on the outside and the inside was so soft. It tasted like clouds. The syrup is also not that sweet, which makes it yummy. That Sandwich - the egg was cooked well and still slightly runny. The bacon was crispy and not too fatty. The vegetables were fresh and delicious. Good sandwich! VIBES The place is very crowded on Sunday morning for brunch. They're seating from base to tables to high chair seating. When we made a reservation it was full so we got seating outside. It was quite disappointing that they didn't have shades on the seats near the window so for lots of our meal we were in complete sun and they didn't have any alternative seating. It got really hot really fast with the direct sunlight. SERVICE Service is pretty decent. Our server was Brantley. The only disappointing thing was that they had run out of stuff for the crabcakes which is surprising considering it opens at 10 AM.

Yelp
This was the first restaurant we visited while in Atlanta. Not knowing anything about the area, the food, or the people, we decided to trust Yelp's rating, and I'm happy to say it didn't disappoint! The restaurant has an upscale vibe, and since it was my first experience in Georgia, I wasn't sure what to expect. The food was fantastic. The fried chicken was out of this world, and the biscuits were so good they almost made me cry. It's a shame I wasn't in town long enough to visit this place twice, but I swear, if I'm ever in Atlanta again, I'll definitely come back! By the way, it's refreshing to see that the term "Southern hospitality" truly lives up to its name here. The people, the atmosphere, and the locals were all so welcoming, a nice change from California.

Yelp
This restaurant was good but not great. I was expecting a little more from the food but the ambience and service were great. Right in the center of buckhead, parking is easy. We came for brunch and I was pretty disappointed by the food. Grits (excellent) crab rice - lacked flavor. Eggs Benedict - the brisket was flavorless. The fried green tomatoes were good but would have liked the tomato cut slightly thicker. It was big on the goat cheese. The cheese ball (my favorite) perfect combination of textures and flavors. Go for the chicken and waffles and coffee. They did these things well. My mom loved the liver but the texture is acquired taste

Yelp
Food was definitely 5/5 but the service was the reason I had take away a star... Making reservations is definitely recommended. You get seated right away. Dim lighting around the restaurant Our server was great but she was a little slow.. (I forget her name) When we got seated.. the plates and silverware was all scattered.. no napkins and there was a wet tray on the seat that the hostess had to quickly move out the way. There were no napkins We tried the Gouda fritters, fried chicken and shrimp & Grits. they were all very delicious you do get complimentary biscuits and cornbread Drinks I got the one with the sparkling water and grapefruit. VERY DELICIOUS overall, for date night it was nice but probably won't be back for a second time.

Yelp
South City Kitchen in Buckhead is a must-visit for elevated Southern cuisine that feels like a hug! The atmosphere is elegant, warm, and cozy but still gives you a modern feel. I tried the Gouda fritters for an appetizer and they were soo crispy, cheesy, and the hot honey drizzled on top takes it over the edge. For an entree, I got the springer mountain chicken that comes with mashed potatoes and collard greens and it was perfect! The service was top-notch; our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They bring out complimentary biscuits and cornbread for the table and we couldn't get enough! Whether you're here for brunch, lunch, or dinner, you won't be disappointed. It's a great spot for a special night out or to impress out-of-town guests. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Our wait staff was so amazing. They made the experience what it was. Fun. Lovely. Full of laughs. And chill. The food was simply okay. I wasn't blown away. Our group of five ordered different things. Fried green tomatoes. Fried chicken. Carolina trout. Garlic collards. Fried okra. Chicken chopped salad. I had a piece of them all. It's more of an upscale southern spot rather than what you might expect or what is depicted on tv when you think of southern food. They do give complimentary biscuits and cornbread which is great with the butter. We asked for more of those. I walked in but heard that if you drive that there's a valet or limited parking. It was a steady rush of people. During our 3 hour meal, it was about 60 percent full the entire time. The staff gets a golden star and we tipped them well for their attentiveness.

Yelp
New head chef and the dishes clearly are leveled up! I'm very impressed with the quality of the dishes prepared and you need to check them out bc Chef Suzanne has given the tried-and-true dishes a face lift! The NY Strip is very good and the crab cake has gotten a reboot!!
google avatar

Yelp
This negative review is based solely on the fact that it was a 60 degree, wet day in ATL We were seated externally under the tent. This covering was defective as shown in the image. There was a chilly draft. When I kindly asked to switch tables, I was denied because there were no available seating options indoors. I ordered tea and asked if they could turn on the outdoor heaters. The waiter, Zach said the heaters cycle on and off. I couldn't understand why they would have the heater cycling when it was uncomfortably cold. At no point did he offer seating away from this draft. There were at least four empty tables closer to the building. These were available the entire time we were there. This was place was inconsiderate and a disappointment.

Yelp
This place wasn't quite a 3 but also not quite a 4. I would be open to coming back during dinner or a wkend Brunch and seeing how it is. Lunch was underwhelming . I will give it to them tho that crab cake was amazing ! My go tos are spicy chicken sandwiches and this had no spice whatsoever arguably any flavor . I barely touched it. My friend ordered a salad with chicken . It came with fried okra which wasn't bad texturally but again lacking flavor. Servers were friendly so kudos to the service and staff. We sat outside and it was a chill vibe. Again, not a fan of their Lunch. However I would probably go back . Wouldn't be my first choice.

Yelp
I ended up coming in for brunch on Sunday! The king biscuit was really good. The biscuit was cooked perfectly and was very flakey. I liked the ham and egg and the gravy was good but I was hoping it would be a little more creamy. The cornbread was amazing. The peach state passion cocktail was good but nothing to write home about. I wish it was fruitier. I would come back and try dinner next. The service was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow their fried chicken was deliiiiicious! I stopped by on a Sunday evening and it was packed! I was by myself on a work trip so I was seated by the bar immediately so I didn't have to wait much. The venue has a nice dark cool vibe with lots of music. As someone who doesn't eat seafood (which was half their menu), I chose the first entree on the list, the fried chicken ($25) and I was not disappointed! The chicken was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. It went really well with the potatoes. I definitely felt the southern hospitality there. I ended my meal with a scoop of tiramisu ice cream so I was a happy camper. If you're in the Lennox area, definitely check this restaurant out! It's a few minutes walk from the Lennox mall

Yelp
Came here for Sunday brunch with my bestie from out of town. Not much for southern or fried food but she wanted to try some and came here after seeing such good reviews! I am so glad we did! We both ordered salads with their friend chicken which were so amazing! The Chicken was to die for! It was well seasoned, like sooo good. Perfect portions too! My only issue was sitting up top with the gorgeous city view- they have curtains and they closed the curtains which made it all dark and honestly a totally different vibe- we asked the same waiter to partially open and he said it's all or nothing, only thing that would make it better or partial curtains lol. Other than that, service was good and food phenomenal. Loved the green tomatoes!

Yelp
So again I got the food to go how they packaged it up by the way was excellent and kept it warm in the drive back to my hotel which in Atlanta traffic is horrible. I started with the fried okra and as all good Southern breading should be it was not greasy and very flavorful the okra really popped out. The shrimp and grits were very unique to me with a tomato based sauce which was excellent and the pork in it was very abundant and very flavorful as well the shrimp were decent size but very well cooked and flavorful. The grits were delicious we're not talking about your breakfast type grits these were a beautiful consistency. I had to pop in to pick up my order to difficult place to park at but they had a 15 minute place outside where I could pop in just stepped inside to dark atmosphere it was quite busy I know they have several branches like to try again next time I'm in Atlanta and eat in. They also served to go a corn muffin and a biscuit I took a bite of each the corn muffin was very flavorful the biscuit was nice and Flaky maybe a bit salty.

Yelp
We celebrated my mom's 76th birthday last night at South City Kitchen Buckhead and it was a hit! The manager Niara was phenomenal from the very beginning! She made sure we were taken care of in every way. We had a party of 11 so this was quite the task. Our waiter Shana (hopefully I got that right) was also extremely pleasant and attentive! Most importantly, the food was pure divinity! I could not have asked for a better experience. This was a great choice and I can't wait to return! Thanks so much, Niara and team!!
google avatar

Liz N.

Yelp
The service was great! However, it's very tight. The tables are very close to each other, which is not ideal. The food was just okay. It sounds like it would be flavorful, but it wasn't. Everything was pretty bland/underwhelming.
google avatar

Van V.

Yelp
Chic and modern. Creative take on southern classics. Colleagues and I walked from the conference hotel, Westin. This place was buzzing at 7. No more tables but spaces at the bar were open and suited us just fine. Bartender suggest Fried Green Tomatoes to start--served beautifully on top of oil and tomato sauce. We loved! He made a nice Manhattan with Buffalo Trace and served a fantastic bread basket with perfect corn muffins, biscuits, and butter. I ordered a second appetizer: smoked pork belly. OMG. Super tasty and perfectly crisped on the outside, soft inside, and on a delicious syrup. My friend went good and bad. Caesar salad with fried chicken and fried okra. Did it right! Every seat at the bar was taken while we were there on a Wednesday. People next to us had delicious trout. Prices were decent for this high quality food and great ambiance. Cheers from Peachtree!

Yelp
If you are in the buckhead area and need some solid soul food I suggest coming here. First I want to give a big shout out to the staff, this is some of the best service I have received in a long time. The Chattahoochee Cove cocktail was delicious, if you're into Rum it's definitely worth a try. For the main course I ordered the Springer Mountain Farms Fried Chicken. It came with mashed potatoes & greens. That combination felt like I was eating a home made meal from my grandparents lol. This place is definitely at the top of my revisits for Atlanta.
google avatar

Brigid P.

Yelp
Love the multi tiered levels here makes it feel very intimate. Service here was top notch. Started cornbread and biscuits were a good start. The Gouda fritters were so tasty with the sticky honey glaze. The carrots were probably the best carrots I have ever had. We shared the shrimp and grits and fried chicken and both were elevated and flavorful. Dessert was a little to be desired but overall an excellent taste of Atlanta!

Yelp
I came here recently for a going away brunch for a friend and I hadn't been to this location in years. I'm so glad I returned. As soon as we entered, we were instantly greeted and taken to our seats. Once seated, I noticed how nice the restaurant looked. It was well maintained, clean and it was a really nice vibe inside. Our waitress was decent but wasn't always attentive to the table. But the food was great! Absolutely delicious! I would definitely get the chicken and waffles again! Oh and the cornbread for the table is incredible! As for parking, you can valet to park. Or there are a couple of parking garages right there. I prefer self parking, so I parked in the garage for I believe $14/$20 (sorry I can't recall). But I would definitely return to this location!
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
IF you've never eaten here, it should be on your list. This was my second time eating at South City Kitchen and first at this location. I previously had brunch at the other location near Sandy Springs, and it's still one of my higher ranked brunch spots. We did valet parking and only had to tip. You'll probably want to wear something semi-dressy, as this tips the scales as being closer to fine dining. Ambiance and mood is very relaxed. Our table did a few appetizers: fried green tomatoes, crab cakes and Gouda fritters (along with the house muffins and biscuits). All of it was amazing! The Gouda fritters were my favorite. I had a blood orange beer on tap that tasted more like a Weiss beer and it was good. Their old fashioned was also very good! My entree, the Carolina trout, was just ok. Not enough fish to satisfy and just wasn't cooked to my liking. However, I had a bite of someone's strip steak and it was absolutely fantastic! Our waitress was stellar! Overall, a great experience! I would highly recommend eating here for a company dinner or date night.
google avatar

Yelp
We came to this South City Kitchen location for a date night and really enjoyed the experience! The front of the house staff originally set us up at a table in the bar area. Now mind you, I am not a prude, but wanted a little more romantic ambiance, so, after asking to be relocated, we were set up at a table for two in their spacious covered outdoor deck eating area which was great! We had the Carolina trout, fried green tomatoes, Farmstead gouda fritters, banana pudding, and apple hand pie. We enjoyed the meal and visit and will definitely return.

Yelp
Ohh I soo wanted to love this place but didn't. Ambiance 5 stars but food lacked seasoning so 3.75 stars. Drinks were sooo yum 5 stars. Ugh. So that's why I gave 4 stars. I had chicken dish. Hefty portions (ask for everything to be separated if you don't want soggy chicken). She-Crab soup Was very heavy and cheesy. Price was decent considering style of restaurant.
google avatar

Kien H.

Yelp
This spot is a joint that has no weakspots when it comes to food. The service, elite. The ambience, a vibe. The food, elevated tier. The bar situation, solid. They have a downstairs and an upstairs. The upstairs area you can get a view of Peachtree road so its a nice ambience there. The bar area there is decently big but they have a lot of selection for you (and some nice specials on the menu to boot). The waitstaff is always stellar. They haven't missed. They will be prompt with you and in the downtime they will stop and talk to you instead of throwing your food on the table and bouncing away. Makes you feel like a person instead of a table number. On my last visit I got the king biscuit and it was NOT what I expected (I guess I expected a biscuit sandwich of some sort). This was not it, but it was a welcomed surprise. Kind of an opened faced sandwich situation that had MAD flavor! There is parking but its valet, so just be aware. Its like 2 dollars, so it isnt that bad, but dont expect a lot of street parking, it is on Peachtree RD so I assume you already know how that is. That should not deter you though! If you havent, you need to dabble in this!

Yelp
This place is somewhat upscale but not all the way. You can be dressed up or somewhat casual. With reservations made we only waited about 5minutes. The waitress was very polite and knowledgeable of the menu. She suggested the grits, so that's what I got. Strongly recommend getting the bread basket. Those bread muffins were delicious. I recommend sitting on the patio if the weather permits it. There's a parking garage right behind the restaurant l, that's steps away. Will definitely return.

Yelp
Im in Atlanta for a weekend and am staying at the Intercontinental which is a 4 minute walk. I'm glad we came -- everything we ate was tasty, the server attentive, and nice ambiance (white tablecloths, not noisy). When we said we were from out of town, our server recommended three classic southern dishes that are popular - fried green tomato's, shrimp & grits, and the fried chicken. All were great--especially the shrimp & grits. The grits were creamy and the sauce had a slight kick. The cocktail - ugly sweater - mentioned gin & earl gray so I was excited but it was overpowered by whatever citrus was used (lemon?) We had a meal for two - appetizer, entree, dessert and cocktails - for $140 including tip. Quite reasonable!
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Definitely on the upscale side for southern food. Portions were very small but the food was absolutely amazing. The chicken was flavorful, mashed potatoes were creamy and the heirloom carrots were seasoned very well. We made reservations and I highly recommend that. Parking was in the garage nearby and I believe they offer valet too. Overall, I would come here again.

Yelp
OMG. We walked in without a high expectation but everything was just AMAZING. Especially the crab soup and the pork chop. Also the service is just so thoughtful and friendly. It is definitely a restaurant I would often go if I live in Atlanta. 猪肉非常非常好吃,其他菜品也很符合亚洲胃~服务也很贴心,推荐来品尝哦

Yelp
Great menu, great food and great service. I highly recommend getting a table with a server named Patina. She's stellar.

Yelp
Out of all the places we ate at on our Georgia trip, I would say South City Kitchen Buckhead was our favorite, however, it is more on the upscale side for southern food. There was a party going on when we came, so just in case you should make a reservation to ensure you don't have to wait. We were lucky when we arrived on a Friday night because they had a free table for 3. After we ordered, they started us off with complementary bun and corn bread. I'm not sure what kind of bread it was, but the bun was super soft and airy. Pei Mussels ($16) - included andouille sausage, white wine, chili flakes, with grilled baguette. The sauce makes a great dip for bread. She-Crab Soup in a bowl ($10) - included cream sherry, pieces of real crab meat, with olive oil drizzle. Springer Farm Fried Chicken ($25) - included a fried white meat chicken breast, collard greens, mashed red bliss, honey-thyme potatoes. I usually don't like white meat because it's on the dry side, but this chicken was juicy and well-seasoned. The collard greens were good, and the mashed potato was creamy. Side of Fried Okra ($7) - My friends enjoyed this more than me because I am not a fan of the slimy interior of okra. Service was smooth, so we did not have to wait long for food. This was a great last dinner here!

Yelp
I haven't been to SCK in years but had fond memories. I took a friend who was visiting Atlanta. Not a mistake - at all. Food/drinks were great. Service great. She can't do gluten and they brought her some gluten-free bread - on the house and without her asking. 10/10 highly recommend.

Yelp
Always a great spot for a filling dinner and classy environment. I booked a reservation and my guest and I were sat immediately. The starter bread is soo good. I had the lemonade cocktail and it was sweet and delicious. For dinner I got the fried chicken and she ordered the beef cheek, we both ate until we were stuffed. For dessert she enjoyed the cheesecake. I've been to this midtown location but this was my first time in Buckhead and both are top notch.

Yelp
The fried chicken meal was amazing!! Be sure to try the homemade hot sauce too! Service was fast and ambience was good too.

Yelp
Wasn't good at all tonightfood lukewarm, the famous biscuits wasn't famous, drinks were weak and they forgot to cook my grandson dinner. It took 50mins to receive his meal. We won't be back! We feel cheated!

We went here for lunch on a Friday evening. We got there a little late due but they still accommodated us. The service was swift. The servers worked efficiently to ensure timely service. Everyone received their food at the same times. The she-crab soup contained real crab meat. The fried green tomatoes were amazing especially with the sauce. It is tomato saucy. The pimento cheese was good with plenty of options included. I didn't have the pickles but people raved on them. My entree was the Springer Farm fried chicken. It was fresh and seasoned well. The greens were good and the mashed potatoes were really creamy. Others had the Grilled Salmon. They did not care for it. They stated the salmon was okay but it was just that. The bathroom was also nice.

Yelp
Visited South City Kitchen on a Friday night - I did have a reservation so I was seated very quickly. The ambiance was nice, very quiet and intimate as the restaurant has small rooms versus one large dining area so overall it had a great ambiance. My server introduced herself and gave us a great description of the restaurant and the signature menu items. She also gave great insight to drink pairings. Our service the entire night was amazing. For starters I ordered the Farmstead Gouda Fritters and the She-Crab soup. The Fritters were absolutely delicious - so creamy on the inside but nice and crispy and the honey glaze was perfectly balanced. I would definitely order this again and again. The soup was so delicate, light and creamy. I really enjoyed the soup. For my entree I ordered the Chatel Farms Strip Steak (medium), Shrimp and Marsh Hen Mill Grits and the Fried Okra. The steak was nicely cooked however a bit bland on flavor, the fingerling potatoes and grilled baby gem were delicious. The Shrimp & Grits was very tasty and had perfect ratios of the gravy to grits. The okra was perfect crispy and the sauce that comes with it was light and savory. I would definitely visit again to try the brunch menu. Would recommend for a quiet, intimate date night.

Yelp
We came to South City Kitchen for Mother's Day as a last minute pick. It was amazing to say the least. The only reason why I'm giving it a four is because of the mishap of our food. However the manager Sheldon took very good care of us. He jumped on it when he realized we had been waiting for our food for an extended period of time. To compensate us he took half of the bill off. It was super packed because of the holiday weekend so we sat at the bar. That was all us though because we didn't have a reservation. The ambiance was beautiful as well as the atmosphere. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. We will be back again

Yelp
Visiting from out of town & found SCK on Yelp. It was just what we were looking for. Great ambiance and clean. Food was tasty (I got fried chicken & my husband got the pork chop; we split fried green tomatoes). This review is really for our server, Bettina. We were her only table when we arrived for an early dinner on a Tuesday. Although we were seated as far away as was possible, she checked on us regularly & kept our drinks full. Changed our silverware with each course. She was knowledgeable about the menu & very personable while still giving us our space. It was easy to tell that quality service matters to her. I cannot in my life remember having better service anywhere. Very well done :)

Yelp
Calmer and quieter than the midtown location, but same high quality menu and delicious food. Creative takes on Southern dishes. Two drawbacks: 1) nowhere to put your coat. Ate with it on my lap. please get some coat trees; Atlanta does get cold! 2) Service was good, but somewhat intrusive. Conversations interrupted too many times in the course of the evening.

Yelp
It was hard to choose so I thought I would start with an appetizer. Unfortunately I filled up on that and didn't order a meal. Next time I do go back I will definitely get the fried chicken. Staff was very friendly and engaging! I appreciate my first time eating there was a pleasant experience!

Yelp
Nice elevated southern menu. Definitely a hot spot so make reservations if you are limited on time. They have a cool full bar with a fun atmosphere. The bartenders and bar backs are hustling as they are really busy, and still able to pay great attention to their bar full of clientele. I think I waited about 15 min for a seat at the bar. Not too bad. And I was offered to order a drink by 2 separate bartenders. So they are on point! Open kitchen as well. You do t really see it from the bar but as I was walking out I saw 5 fried chicken dishes ready to serve as well as about 5 pork chops. Those pork chops sure looked good! I ordered the fried green tomatoes and their fried chicken. And the corn bread & biscuit basket was delish! The fried green tomatoes were amazing! Nice golden fry on them and they were also "stuffed" with goat cheese. They were wading in a shallow bath of a delicious red pepper coulis, drizzled with olive oil. Very good!!! I could have used more olive oil but I ate it up too fast before I had a chance to ask for oil. The fried chicken was accompanied by buttery red bliss mashed potatoes (YUM!!!), and collard greens. The chicken had a great fry on it, but I would have liked it if it was a little more juicy. That being said, I would defiantly order it again. The potatoes were amazing and used more butter than Julia Childs. Good on them! They were delicious while still not too rich. The collard greens were good as well. I would have liked a little bit of fat in them (bacon/pork belly, pancetta, guanciale, etc.). Reflecting back it did counter the butter which might be the reason they were not too rich. Overall, again, I would order the dish again. I didn't order dessert but the banana pudding seemed to be the house special. Maybe I'll try it next time. Parking is available in the attached (sort of) parking garage. Unfortunately they do not validate, but not a deal breaker. Parking was $14 for the duration of my meal.

Yelp
I came here as part of BBQ and bourbon pairing event with ASW. The event started with a cocktail walkthrough from one of their bartenders. It was delicious. A riff on an old fashioned called "It had to be you" (A Frank Sinatra reference). Perfectly balanced and delicious served with a big cube of crystal clear ice. After a quick rundown of the ASW bourbons we tucked into a buffet of BBQ. They had all the meats. Tritip, pulled pork, chicken, sausage, even head cheese. Of course the pickles and traditional sides made an appearance as well. All the food was great, the drinks especially so. I always look for South City when I hit up food festivals, they always put out good food.

Yelp
Really wanted to like this place, but was a pretty big disappointment. We had a reservation and we were able to get seated promptly. Waitress was super friendly and attentive. But everything went downhill from the minute we got our drinks It took over an hour for our food to come out. We were seated at 6, got our food around 7:45. We had some apps. Fritters were great, but fried green tomatoes had no flavor. The waitress told us how the fried chicken was their specialty, so had that as well as the pork chops for everyone at the table. The pork chops were good. The fried chicken, though, hands down the most boring fried chicken I've had. I even had one of my friends try a bite and they were shocked at how Bland it was. The chicken was almost overcooked to where it was a little tough. But there's no way there was any seasoning on this stuff. I've never had fried chicken with next to no flavor at all. To say this is your specialty is not doing them any good. There was also some ticked off customer yelling at somebody at the restaurant right at the end of our table. It was disruptive as well as a bad look. They did not take the conversation into the lobby area or outside, but instead, just had a shouting match at the end of our table. The guy was ticked about the overpriced food for small portions among other things. Can't say I blame him given the quality of food vs cost. The waitress did give us free desserts for the long wait for the food. But overall, the amount of money they charge for the food, the long wait to eat it and the disorderly ambiance, it is definitely not worth it. Don't see us returning.

Yelp
What can I say...if no one else will do it...I will ‍ Had a nice self care date a couple months ago!! Started off getting my tresses trimmed and tamed at @themodclass , then went to @southcitykitchen.atl Buckhead for a bite to eat! Parking decks are available -- less than a block walk uphill. Even though I had a reservation, it wasn't too busy that I couldn't have been seated with no wait. : I had a reservation when they opened at 5pm -- I arrived 10 mins early and was politely informed I could be seated at time of open/reservation. Seating available inside foyer. Even though the wait time was longer than expected being the only person in the restaurant, my waitress quickly made up for the delay with amazing recommendations and customer service. / : Ask for Amari - when I tell you she knows her stuff!!! She made everything on the menu sound like the #1 draft pick and let me tell you, if I had more room In my stomach I would have definitely ordered more. This is a no judgement zone tho - I ate most of everything I ordered cause it was just that good!!! - Smoked Pork Belly - Farmstead Gouda Fritters - Shrimp & Marsh Hen Hill Grits - Vanilla Bean Cheesecake - A Night With Rosalita - Country Thyme Lemonade - Turn the Beat Around #ATLdinner #atlhairstylist #southcitykitchenbuckhead #southcitykitchen #atldate Check out my reel here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv0f4BIAJEW/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Yelp
We had a family lunch set up but really wanted some southern specialties, so we did brunch before lunch here. The patio sounded unappealing on a 15 degree F cold spell Sunday morning, but it's actually a beautiful covered / enclosed patio with heaters and a fireplace, and I would argue it's nicer than the inside since there's lots of natural light. I started with an Up & At Em: a gin based brunch cocktail - super light and refreshing with kumquat. They start you with warm cornbread and biscuits, which are amazing. The biscuit was so fluffy, nicely salted, good with their peach jam. - Fried green tomatoes: layered with with goat cheese and fried, sitting on a red pepper coulis. It was nicely fried with a thin crisp cornmeal crust and not too greasy. Loved the goat cheese tang with it - Fried chicken and waffles: one of their specialties. The chicken was nicely brined, flavorful and super moist (white meat). You can add pecans to the waffles for $2, which adds a nice crunch. The waffle was fluffy. Service was pretty quick and very friendly. It was a great place for elevated southern specialties and brunch. Again, get a seat on the patio if you can! Parking: valet is free if you're dining there. No validation for the paid parking lot.

Yelp
Had a phenomenal time here. Food was good. Service was amazing. Great vibes. Drinks were pretty good. I love a good old fashioned. The She Crab soup is a must have. It was so good I had to take two bowls home

Yelp
I'm a Georgia girl through and through. next time you buy a pack of pecans, check the back to see where they're from. it'll probably say Camilla, Georgia where my folks are from-- yes we're just *that* southern. with that being said, it's an uphill battle finding somewhere granny will enjoy dining. I'm the only adventurous eater in my family. but this place is an easy go-to because the food is right! I can take both my granny and someone who has never tried soul food before; they'll both have an experience that elevates soul food keeping its identity. good representation! I bring family here for celebrations. I bring international and non-southern American friends here to introduce them to soul food. I bring folks from church, and I come here for brunch often. it's good for everyone. service is always great. I have never had a bad experience in the dozens of times I've been here. and the vibe is always good, I love that you can see into the kitchen while you're waiting at the table. there are purse hooks at the bar. I've tried their menu extensively and I haven't yet had a dish I wouldn't order again. top recs: she crab soup. fried green tomatoes. fried chicken plate (dinner). king biscuit (brunch).

Yelp
3.5 stars South City Kitchen was a beautiful restaurant with dark, sleek décor and a sprawling patio. Our friendly server stopped by to take our beverage order and to drop off a bread basket, which was really the highlight of the meal, in my opinion. Its contents included buttery, soft biscuits and heavenly corn muffins in which you could see the fresh kernels. My entrée of the Chef's Chicken Chopped Salad was packed with local greens, pecan-smoked bacon, peppadews, tomatoes, cucumbers, feta, and sugar snap peas; I have to say that I love a salad with a bunch of ingredients. However, the included grilled chicken was rather bland and a bit chewy. It reminded me of pre-sliced chicken strips you would buy at the supermarket. The balsamic vinaigrette and green goddess dressing helped add some flavor, but I still found the salad just mediocre; perhaps I did not order the right thing to evaluate the SCK food? Overall, I found South City Kitchen to be fine, but did not live up to the rave reviews I had seen/heard.
