Im going to keep it real. I'd probably be hyping this place even if it was just ok because i really respect what they're doing. Specifically, i think it's a tragedy that Atlanta lets the area around the Capitol remain such an empty eyesore. I loved the Newport project conceptually, and, although they moved on, I'm hoping hotel row, and eventually South Downtown generally, is able to persevere and thrive. [I really like hotel row, it looks really cleaned up and cool, and i love how it fits between the centennial yards building with wild leap (also a cool spot!).] Fundamentally, for that to happen, you need people. And to get people you need restaurants, etc. to get restaurants, etc., though, you need people. It's a difficult standoff to break and eventually somebody just needs to make the leap of faith. That's what tyde tate is doing and i want to support them however i can in their effort.
That said, I'm happy that i don't have to set aside my integrity to fully endorse this place. I tried several things here and they were all great. The menu is tight, which you can tell lets them focus on using fresh ingredients. Everything i had tasted fresh. It was all well-cooked and served hot. The server double checked the order to go, which i appreciated.
The spring and cheese rolls were great appetizers. The pad see ew, pad thai, fried rice, and basil tofu were all excellent. The panang curry was a little different than i was used to (thinner) but still good. Spicy and the beef has really deep flavor. The only thing i didn't really enjoy here was the peanut sauce. It's different than I'm used to. It wasn't bad but it is really reminiscent of a peanut butter or something as opposed to what i would usually think of. It was good for balancing spicy pad thai though. In short, basically everything i tried here i enjoyed.
The restaurant itself is very cute, clean, and well-maintained. As noted, I'm a big fan of hotel row. It looks cool and is in a neat location for events at mbs.
