It is always a very good pleasure to come here to get something sweet 😋 But there is something I don't understand. There was a line of maybe 7 people and only one girl to do everything. But I saw a couple of times some people were also working at this shop inside, doing stuff except helping her... I know they probably have other stuff to do, but when it's a rush or a big line, you can still give a little bit of help... But the girl did great !

My initial impression wasn’t the best. I walked up to the ordering window and some older gentleman was pretty rude when he was telling me that whoever was at the counter wasn’t there and I had to wait. I wanted maybe 8-10 minutes for them to return. When I finally was ordering the young lady could it seem any less interesting in helping me. After ordering a cheese burger and Lavender Lemonade for my wife my total came out to $16.50. Here is where things take a turn again, I waited about 25 minutes if not longer for my order…. I had no one else in front of me… I got my burger and had to wait an ADDITIONAL 3 minutes for my lemonade. While the burger was actually very very good and I would love to have it again, I believe it the service improves they would be a solid 5 stars.

Good ice cream, but a bit on the expensive side, it’s over $7 for a “regular” size shake. It is entirely out doors and has limited seating areas. If your with friends it’s fun, and worry free but when looking for a place nearby this might not be it.

It’s in a cute area that is fun to walk around. I ordered a root beer float that came out to be $9. The soft serve wasn’t very good. The root beer I think was warm so overall it just didn’t taste very good. A little over priced.

The lady in the window was great! Shortcake bites were amazing! Definitely worth a stop!

Southwest Soda Pop Shop is a cute outdoor ice cream and soda stand. Serving soft serve and scoop ice creams , floats, and sodas. A wonderful stop on the north end of the newly opened DC Wharf. Look closely for the shop since there is still a lot of construction. It is located on Maine Ave directly in front of the Seafood Market. There is ample bench seating under a shaded awning. It will be even nicer to visit once the construction is completed.

This is a great outdoor quick ice cream shop. The staff is cool and the smoothie I ordered was good. They offer all kinds of ice cream, banana splits, milk shakes, smoothies and more. They have ice cream sandwhiches made of real cookies and your choice of ice-cream flavor.

The people working behind the counter were super nice and welcoming. The service was super fast. This is by far the best ice cream I have ever had ( I would recommend the strawberry double scoop).

I have refrained from writing this review for a year now, but today was the final straw for me. I have been trying to patron this black-owned business for over a year. I've come to The Wharf about 3 times just to visit this place and they were not open despite their store hours stating they were open. Finally, I get here during 4th of July weekend figuring they'd be open. They were. I ordered several things. Two of my order items needed to be fried: Strawberry Shortcake Bites and Funnel Cake Fries. It took 25 minutes of waiting before I asked for an update. They kept telling me "it'll be a few minutes". It was not. The fryer was not on and still needed to heat up to temperature. I had places to go, so I had to cancel my order. They could have communicated the issue with the fryer at the moment I ordered. I'm done trying to patron this place. I'm more disappointed that I consistently have these type issues with black owned restaurants. Please do better. There are people who strive to give you my money, but I can't even do that!

Came here after happy hour for dessert, after walking around. It's at the end of the walkway at the wharf. We got ice cream with brownie bites and ended up paying like $14. It was good but we couldn't finish it because it was so sweet.

The ice cream here is fantastic! I got a scoop of ice cream and it was delicious and had the most amazing texture. I stopped by southwest soda pop shop around 8pm on a Friday night. It was pretty busy, but we got lucky with our orders (they came out quick). The staff here was really nice and you could tell they cared. It seemed like the whole family was working (mother, grandmother, and child) which was really cute. I'd highly recommend this shop!

Great little ice cream shop! Me and my friends stopped by while we were in the area and I'm glad we did. Service was fast, the ice cream was good, and we were all happy with our orders! I got a butter pecan milkshake which I loved. It was a great consistency and they were nice and generous with the whipped cream on top! My friend got the strawberry milkshake which was equally delicious. I'd definitely come back here!

Went there today my daughter and I ordered the funnel cake fries. It took a long time to come out and when we finally got them they had so much powdered sugar on them we could not enjoy them. The girl working there mentioned she put too much sugar on them and didn't offer to fix them again. How do you have a no return or alter policy and you incorrectly prepare the items??? Also the two girls working there were using foul language the whole time talking to each other. There are no prices listed we payed $24 for 2 funnel cake fries and bad service. I will not be supporting this business here again.

OMG best small gem on the Wharf..try their Cake Explosion..1 layer of cake..2 scopes of ice cream(your choice out of 12) and 3 toppyou will keep coming back!!!!

If you're ever visiting the Wharf in DC, or want a sweet treat, Southwest Soda Pop Shop is definitely a stop worth making! Southwest Soda Pop Shop is a black-owned and operated business located in a hip container shop across from the seafood market at the Wharf. In addition to ice cream and shakes, you can find lite snacks and desserts. Everything was made from scratch and the strawberry shake I had had chunks of fresh strawberries in it! All-in-all this is a great stop for some old-fashion ice cream.

$6 for soft serve is a bit steep but I was really craving ice cream. I decided to get a milkshake instead since for a dollar more I could get more ice cream. I got the cookie dough flavor which was primarily vanilla ice cream with small bits of cookie dough chunks and some chocolate pieces. You order at the window and they call your number when your order is ready. There is some shaded spots around the corner but it's a bit crowded. There are also some tables out front but they are directly in the sun.

Hello everyone! This ice cream shop is really nice to have and its black owned and the ice cream is really good. The more support the better! Keep up the good work you all. I will continue to support your business.

Soda Pop shop is located in the wharf area near the seafood market. This place usually has a long line but I was lucky that day to have one person in front of me so I didn't have to wait long to place my order. I decided to get a single scoop butter pecan on a sugar cone. It took about 15-20minutes to fill my simple order after it was place. I did notice that the person in front of me had a large order (about 5 shakes) and the manager looks like she was training new employees. The ice cream wasn't hard enough so the employees suggested that I get a cup. Overall the flavor was good and they had pieces of pecan in the ice cream but I do wished that ice cream was more solid. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other flavors and the shakes.

I was at the Wharf yesterday and decided to support a Black-Owned business as opposed to supporting my regular, Ben and Jerry's. I have heard so many good things about this spot. First, the line was so long ... yikes ... Once, I got to the front of the line, I was informed that the mango ice cream my friend wanted was all out. Second ...Yikes.... Once I ordered, all the stuff didn't come out at the same time. I waited at least 10 mins for the stuff to come out. First, the small cherry ice came out, then a bottle of water, then the butter pecan, and then the lemonade drink. The medium butter pecan I ordered was decent. I just wasn't blown away. I was pleased that the shop offered chocolate sprinkles for toppings! I haven't had since childhood. It's in a great location. There is ample place to sit and enjoy the wharf. I believe this business has great potential . It just has to work out some kinks!

They said they needed help during this pandemic & that they were open & I was in town so I went! And boy oh boy many of us answered the call to help! Stood in line for a good while in the heat on a beautiful day & it was beyond worth it! Everyone was social distancing in line & they brought out ice cold water as we stood in line! They were so friendly the customer service was great! I didn't get ice cream because I'm lactose intolerant but my brother got a root beer float, he said it was fantastic, finished it in 5 minutes! I got a Shirley temple & funnel fries they were off the chain!! So freaking good!! Everyone ahead of us in line had amazingly plated & done drinks & ice cream. I can't wait to go back!

First time here! There was a line but it went by fast. Staff were efficient and friendly. They had various options on the menu and the ice cream was great. I would go again!

I've been wanting to try this place forever, and so glad I finally did! They have pretty straightforward offerings for an ice cream place--no fancy flavors or dishes here. I had the strawberry ice cream and it was tasty. My only complaint was that there were bits of other flavors mixed in. Not sure how, but there was mint ice cream in my scoop. So if cross-contamination is an allergy concern for you, maybe skip this spot.

The menu is diverse, they have single and double scoops, soft serve, ice pops,,ice cream sandwiches, lots of toppings, pops, funnel cake fries, hot dogs, water, etc. Something for everyone. In our group, we got mint chocolate chip with hot fudge, chocolate scoop on a sugar cone with brownies on top, rootbeer float, and peanut butter milkshake. After we left, there was just smiles all around. There was a 10 minute wait and line when we arrived. Folks were wearing masks and keeping their distance. Staff was friendly and efficient. Each having a specific role to keep the line moving and orders coming up quickly. Nice job ladies, I wish you much success!

They have the most competitively priced ice cream on the wharf. There is usually a long line but it moves quickly. It's a BOB and locally owned. We like to frequent this place. Their ice cream selection is limited compared to most major chain ice cream shops. They don't have a shortage on ice cream products, soft serve, regular, smoothies, milk shakes, ice cream sandwiches (made to order) and pre-packaged ice creams. They also have hotdogs and funnel cakes. There is no indoor seating so Everything is outside so the social distancing is mostly on the customer. We plan on going back.

I was at the Wharf on a really hot day and I came across Southwest Soda Pop Shop at the right time! The line was pretty long, but they finish orders pretty quickly. I ended up getting a cup of mint chocolate ice cream, which was very good - nothing too special, but nothing bad. It was definitely worth the price, because the cup was packed full of ice cream. Definitely recommend if you're walking through the Wharf in the summer.

I love everything here but they have young workers that don't do there job. The ice cream is the best. The pickle egg was hot so don't get that. They open and close when they want to.

Great ice cream to satisfy an 'ice cream for lunch' craving. The place wasn't busy for a cool and sunny blustery day. I am glad I gave this place a try and you should too!

I learned about this black-owned ice cream shop on Instagram and I was so happy my friends and I were able to support! I ordered the cookies n cream milkshake and it was perfect! My friends also ordered the milkshake and ice cream. Everyone was very happy with their order and of course you have to take the infamous Instagram photo as well. So happy this ice cream is right in the middle of The Wharf and the location is perfect. The line was pretty long but they moved pretty fast. Overall, I hope more people continues to support and they increase their sales during this pandemic.

I've visited twice now. I'll share my thoughts! I went the first time explicitly for the birthday cake explosion. It now comes in two sizes- a regular for $7 and large for $9. The large is a treat for two and oh so delicious! I was disappointed that they only offered a few flavors classic flavors of ice cream (chocolate, vanilla, cookies n cream, etc.) They do, however, have soft serve-- chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and mango. They offer swirls in combos of choco/vanilla and strawberry/mango. I tried the soft serve also and it's great-- nice, creamy and thick! I usually only like custard swirls, but this satisfied my sweet tooth. My next visit, I'll have to try the cookie sandwich. It isn't prepackaged, which I've grown to prefer, but I'm willing to check it out!

This is a cute little shop now at the Wharf! It's a nice addition, especially on hot days when you're standing in the long lines to get your crabs cooked. Anyway, because this is a new spot, the line wasn't long. I couldn't decide on soft serve or chocolate ice cream, so they hooked me up with both! I don't think the ice cream is anything to write home about - the cones (waffle and sugar) aren't homemade; however, their shakes and other creations are good (according to my sidekicks who were with me). I'm only giving three stars because I expected more from a "Soda Pop" shop. I do intend to try this cute shop again, but for now, cannot rate anything more than 3 stars. If you find yourself at the Wharf, and want a sweet treat, give Soda Pop a try.

Southwest Soda Pop Shop is a locally owned food stand in the District Wharf near the historic fish market. There is no inside seating, but there are places to stand and eat nearby. There's also a little seating area around the corner with seating on steps. In terms of food, they offer the basics like hot dogs and lemonade. They also have ice cream that's popular!

Absolute waste of time coming here. They ran out of everything basically, including the vegan options for ice cream. I asked what the alternatives would be and was offered snacks that I could purchase from the vending machine. I ended up getting some dry brownie chunks that cost $2.20.

Black owned. Great ice cream and many other treats. That helps your sweet tooth. Also, have delicious breakfast sandwiches.

Friendly service. Ordered the plain lemonade. It wasn't bad but to take it to the next level have it fresh squeezed. Everyone seemed to enjoy the ice cream.

Went here earlier today to buy a hotdog combo. Was greeted... eventually. Hotdog was ready after 2 other customers (that ordered after)me got their orders. I asked when my order would be ready and was told it was coming. When I asked for extra napkins, the cashier handed me 2. When I asked for a "handful" from the stack, she looked directly at me and handed me 2. It was the unwelcoming attitudes of the staff that really turned me off of this place.

Amazing family business along the Wharf of DC. I visited and the line was down the block! They did a great job of moving everyone along in a timely manner and were very friendly at the counter. Definitely will be going back. The menu reminds me of home with a fun ice cream truck vibe.

Went here during the Mardi Gras parade at the Wharf so there was a line, along with every other place. It seemed like a woman and her parents were running everything on this day, and while it was just the 3 of them they did keep the line moving. My only complaint really is that I ordered a chocolate chip cookie dough shake with fudge, and the fudge wasn't blended and the cookie dough was fairly absent so it was pretty much just a vanilla shake. Not bad, but I wasn't in love with it. I'd definitely return when it's a bit warmer out and on days where the Wharf isn't so crazy. I'm also eager to try their other crazy ice cream concoctions, but I didn't dare order something complicated on a busy day.

I'm a regular customer of the Soda Shop ice cream. The lines are long but it's worth the wait. The customer service is great. The Mango and Raspberry mixed soft serve cone is my favorite!

I remembered reading about this ice cream shop maybe a year ago. It's black owned and like many other businesses, had been affected by covid-19. Once I realized this was that same shop I had to stop by and support. It was really popular. I noticed people walking away from the window with they're cups of ice cream and various toppings. My sweet tooth had to have whatever that was. I asked the cashier and she told me it's the cake explosion. Say What?! Sounds like everything I need! And it was. Now, there is a sticker shock but honestly, it's something you could share with another person. It's a lot. My fiance also ordered a soft serve cup of vanilla and chocolate, which was yummy as well. Now that it's warming up, you should probably get yourself some ice cream when you're at the wharf and if you're going to do that, you should go to Soda Pop. You're welcome in advance!

I. Was. So. HAPPY. to. Support. A. Black. Business!! LOL. Now that I got that out of the way, this place saved me last week when I was at the wharf for the first time. Lines for food was crazy long everywhere because of the various events going on in DC (well, the Cherry Blossom Festival). The line was long here, too, but I liked the idea of getting a hot dog and some ice cream at the same time. Staff were kind and got the orders done in a timely fashion. The hot dog was tasty and literally almost half the price that people were charging closer to the water smh. The ice cream was delicious! I had a scoop of the cake batter and cookies and cream with brownie bits sprinkled on top... yum, yum, yum! They also offer soft served mango and strawberry ice cream. I am going to try that the next time I am in the area.

Great ice cream. I got the cookie ice cream sandwich and it did not disappoint. There was a very long line, due to only 2 people running it but they were friendly and doing the best the could on a hot summer day. Totally recommend and will visit again.

I was walking around the Wharf area after escaping the cherry blossom crowds for a bit, and came upon this cute ice cream shop that had a special "cherry blossom" flavor. Yes, of course it was actually cherry...and it was delicious! There were plentiful chunks of real, dark cherries, not the bright red candied variety. The ice cream was smooth and creamy. Sure, over $4 for a scoop might seem a little steep, but this is good ice cream, and it seems like this is a locally owned business which is always nicer to support than the big chains. The Wharf is also a nice place to walk around with ice cream, so the location is perfect!

I heard a lot about soda pop so I decided to give them a try. I went during the week and there was a line but it wasn't too bad. I stood in line for about 15 minutes until I placed my order. We decided to order funnel cake fries, crab grilled cheese, and a milkshake. I must say everything was amazing! It was a little pricey but nothing too extreme. I highly recommend if you're in the area to check out this great establishment out. Also this is a black owned small family restaurant. Oh one last thing do not go too late because they do run out of certain items.

Walked by here yesterday thinking it was a drink stand. We ended up going to Ben & Jerry's for ice cream and ended up feeling ripped off. A friend of ours recommended this spot for ice cream and we decided to give it a try. I'm sooooooo glad we did! It was delicious! My husband got his usual milkshake (cookies and cream) he said it was real good. I got something called strawberry shortcake bites with vanilla soft serve on top and bayyyyybayyyyy it was everything! To top it off it's a BOB. We visited on a not so busy day so it was several shady spots to sit and enjoy our ice cream. The staff is friendly, the have a separate or and pick up window where they use the number system to serve their customers when it gets busy. I feel the prices were fair based on location and the amount you get for what you pay. We definitely will be back when in the area.

New ice cream spot at the newly revamped Wharf. Nothing like the blended smell of steamed, Old Bay crabs and sweet treats blended together in this 90+ degree heat...I kid. I arrived at the window of this neat little shop to be greeted by friendly employees. There was so much to choose from, but being a newby, I settled on one scoop of the Birthday Cake. One scoop is priced at nearly $4. I frequent other ice cream shops and felt that was a bit steep, but the scoop was very generous! I didn't have long to wait in the sweltering sun, the employees moved quickly. The Birthday Cake flavor was pretty good. Cake batter flavored ice cream with swirls and sugary sprinkles or chips. It was yummy! So nice to have this little gem of a shop, cool ice cream, and sit out by the water enjoying the sights and sounds of the Wharf. I'll stop by whenever I'm in the area!

I travel to DC often. Found out about this place on Facebook. There was a story about it being black owned by sisters I believe. They were facing having to shut down due to the pandemic. I was sure to add it to my itinerary on my next trip. I always want to patronize MY-nority owned businesses. It's a pick up place, no indoor seating which is cool. The menu selections are printed on the door. My son and I were standing in front of it figuring out what to order. A young black woman with blond bantu knots came out of the door and directed us to the order window a few feet away. She seemed annoyed that we were standing there. When I told her we were reading the menu she said oh and disappeared behind the door again. Visited on a Thursday afternoon. There were only a few people there. I had to repeat my full order 3 or 4 times because the lady at the window seemed to be having trouble with the handheld unit she was using. Having a pen and paper handy might be a good idea. Wait times seemed long. How long does it take to scoop ice cream into a cup? My order was ready first. A minute later my son's order was ready. I sent him to the window to pick it up and they didn't want to give it to him. I don't expect a business to remember every face but there were literally 6 people there and my son was standing next to me when I placed the order. Just seems a simple courtesy to give a bit of attention to the faces in front of you. The ice cream was expensive which I expected. There was nothing particularly wonderful about any party of my experience to make me want to return though.

Was so excited to hear of a new minority owned shop on DC's historic SW Waterfront. We locals just call it the Wharf, although now it encompasses so much more. The service service was Great! I thought the ice cream was made in house, but turns out it was just as good Bc it's Gifford's award winning ice cream Beware, they serve Small scoops & they come with 1 free topping (sprinkles or peanuts). Random note: the metal order counter can get really got in the summer. Don't Lean On It as you place your order. Thank me later.

So where do I start this place was listed on the new hot trending list so tried it. Food- 4/5 ice cream was good. Had the mint chocolate chip with brownie. The brownie was dry so asked for maybe whip cream or something to make it better they were like cant do that without charging you so that already set me back. The secret menu is where you want to be. Had the cake explosion with birthday cake ice cream and cookie dough. The layer of shortbread cookies was not flavorful somewhat dry. The pound cake layer made up for it. Service- 3/5 just because of the dry brownie and not adding some whip which isnt much to ask for not like I asked to have everything made over. Atmosphere - 2/5 this one really got me the open fish market next door takes away from the charm this place could have located somewhere further down the wharf. Overall good experience just so minor hiccups. But thats just me being particular.

Visiting the National Harbor on vacation we decided to go down to the Wharf for seafood. After eating I had a taste for ice cream. I kept seeing this Soda Pop Shop sign as we walked around. We passed several ice cream chains but opted for the Southwest Soda Pop Shop hoping it was family owned and we hit the jackpot!! Thankfully for us it was their grand opening weekend. Brittany, one of the owners personally took my order with smiles. The whole family was working and SO friendly. I ordered a cone but when my husband tasted it I had to give it to him which gave me an excuse to try a different flavor. We all ended up getting ice cream. It was so good. If you love soft serve and flashbacks of simple times when getting ice cream made you feel happy and at home with friends, you have to try this place!

Horrible customer service! Owner did not return the call. Nor did they provide customer service when we returned. The owner rather wants to talk about supporting small black business ownership. I am all for supporting small businesses, but not when you do not provide customer service. We drove over an hour and paid for parking. It looks delicious, but will never by from them.

Horrible customer service... clearly asked for cones, kept putting in cups and giving me attitude when she lacked communication skills needed to be in customer service. We gave up and just took what she gave us

With everything going on with COVID-19 a lot of restaurants were beginning to go out of business. As I was scrolling through Twitter, I saw a Gofund Me for Southwest Soda Pop Shop, without hesitation I donated to this establishment because it's black owned and it's rare for black owned restaurants to be in locations such as at the Wharf. Fast forward to now I had the opportunity to try it out. I went on a Friday afternoon, it was scorching hot and of course there was line. I could tell that a lot of people had questions about the menu as they approached the register, the cashier was cool, calm and collected as he answered every question. I ordered 2 scoops of ice cream with brownie bites, caramel and chocolate sauce, it was delicious. My only critic, I hope that in the future they create more signature desserts, the menu was confusing and lacked options. I will definitely be going back to try the strawberry shortcake bites!
