Space Cowboy - Review - East Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Set in a former Mexican grocery store in East Austin, Space Cowboy is a futuristic bar/restaurant where orders get delivered by tiny robot spaceships on a track that traverses the entire dining room. Expect to find dishes like braised short ribs and Singapore-style skewers, plus a full menu of inventive cocktails to go with it all." - Nicolai McCrary

I took a friend from out of town here for a unique experience and it delivered. The cocktails were pretty good and the vibe was cool. Service was great and the food was pretty good, but not the best I've ever had. It's good enough. I would recommend coming here if you are specifically interested in the experience, but if you are seeking a gourmet experience, I would probably go somewhere downtown instead. I would take out of towners here again, but probably not for a while since there are so many other options in Austin

This place is truly out of this world. Went there for my 31st birthday with my boyfriend and everything we ordered was delicious. Not one dish disappointed. The robots was so cute. I will definitely be a regular here. Only down to it was we weren't asked if we were celebrating, usually restaurants with this atmosphere asks that

I loved the desert space theme, with the robots is super cool, different and the vibe inside is so cool! Our waitress was amazing, sweet and helpful. I took her recommendations and she did not disappoint. The octopus carpaccio was so good, one of my favorites and y the rice trio was also delicious too. We tried the chicken too, but honestly it was just okay compared to everything else. Risotto was amazing, super tasty. Now, the desserts: wow. The panna cotta and the little chocolate cake with ice cream were next level. Drinks were really good as well! Yes, it’s a bit expensive, but totally worth it for the quality and experience.

Google
The best restaurant I've been to in Austin. We got the mushroom risotto a duck ravioli, and it was absolutely amazing. ( Seriously, I am a military veteran who eats food super fast, and I took my sweet time with those dishes.) The atmosphere was fantastic. Everything is clean, music at the perfect volume for conversation, and the staff were attentive and friendly. The sci-fi meets mid century modern vibes make you feel like you are in the future that was promised. We will absolutely be coming back.

Google
My husband brought me here yesterday for Mother’s Day and we absolutely loved the aesthetic of the place and the service was amazing. We also enjoyed having our food served by the robot server, it was unique and a fun experience. I gave 3 stars because the food was very good, I had the 14oz steak and my husband had the smoked chicken but it lacked seasoning. Once we added salt it was good. My second downfall was fanning gnats away the entire time. I couldn’t believe how many gnats were swarming over my food as I tried eating, I even tried recording a cute video and the tiny gnat ruined it so unfortunately I wouldn’t return due to that but it was a nice experience.

Very unique quaint place. Food was excellent. We throughly enjoyed everything about our dinner. We ordered several plates and everything was shareable. The robots were cute. Food and drinks came out very fast. My favorite dish was the corn. It was so tasty 😋

We came here tonight for my boyfriend’s birthday! The food was amazing! I really love the risotto, and our server was so nice and friendly. We had a great time here!

We came in for the first time and had an amazing dinner. The food was absolutely delicious, our server Carly was helpful and knowledgeable on their products, and the cocktails were outstanding. We really enjoyed ourselves and we plan to come back!

Yelp
The food and drinks were really good, the manager and our waiter Jared were VERY nice and friendly. I would recommend this place, 10/10 experience!!

Yelp
I went with my best friend on my birthday. She planned it all out. I saw the name and chuckled knowing that's the Astros triple A team. I digress, it's definitely a hole in the wall. Once you arrive you see the white bold sign, "Space Cowboys." Entering in you see the fun and funky with creative cacti, dirt that creates a unique of a distant location. The atmosphere is relaxing and mellow. I would go again. Parking is also free!

Yelp
The customer service at Space Cowboy was outstanding from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. I had made a reservation for myself and my 7-year-old son. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the host, Kai, who promptly showed us to our seats. My son was immediately captivated by the decor and the sight of robots delivering food to other diners. Having visited Space Cowboy before, I knew there wasn't a dedicated kids' menu, but I wanted to introduce my son to new flavors and expand his palate. Our server, Kristyn, started by asking if we had dined here before and explained which meals could be customized to suit my son's tastes. Her knowledge and attentiveness were impressive, and I appreciated her recommendations. The menu also highlighted which cocktails could be transformed into mocktails, so I let my son choose one for himself. For him, we ordered the Cowboy Ribeye Sliders, Stardust Fries, and the Life Water mocktail. The sliders and fries were prepared without extra toppings, and ketchup was provided, which my son thoroughly enjoyed. The Life Water was a fun and flavorful choice--fizzy like soda but more unique and refreshing. I started with the Seafood Aguachile, a dish I fell in love with during my first visit in April 2024. Since then, I've tried aguachile at other restaurants, but none compare to the version at Space Cowboy. I was thrilled to see it still on the menu, as their offerings change frequently. The serrano sauce was thoughtfully placed on one side of the bowl so my son could try it. To my surprise, he enjoyed it, though he stuck to the shrimp. For the main course, I had the Piri Piri Chicken and Seafood Risotto. The chicken was perfectly smoked, and the accompanying sauce elevated the dish. It was generously portioned, enough for both of us to share. The risotto was our favorite--it was my son's first time trying scallops, mussels, and clams, and to my delight, he found them tasty. While the dish was flavorful, I felt the seafood-to-risotto ratio was slightly off and would have preferred more seafood. For dessert, my son chose the Ube Foam Panna Cotta, which he described as tasting like vanilla ice cream. He wasn't wrong--the texture was different but delightful. It was a perfectly sized, satisfying dessert. To top off our meal, my son was surprised with a UFO-shaped cotton candy, which absolutely made his night. What I appreciated most about our outing was the exceptional service from Kai and Kristyn. Although Space Cowboy doesn't seem specifically geared toward children, they went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and ensure my son had a fantastic experience.

Yelp
The hostess was able to squeeze us in last minute for dinner on a Saturday - much appreciated! The vibe is great. Definitely encapsulates the name "space cowboy". The food is serving by a "robot" that comes around on a conveyor belt, opens up, and you grab the food. Kids were so entertained! Food was good, not great. We had beef tartare, cowboy ribeye sliders duo, torched rice crisps. The flavors were unique but a little TOO random. A fun place to go for the experience, though.

Yelp
I've been here 2 times and it's always such a perfect place to start off a girls night. On one of the nights, my friends went on Halloween and had such a great experience. All the food was amazing with notable mentions beef tartare, crispy rice trio, and pumpkin risotto (not sure if this was only for Halloween). Our server was super fun and kept things lively. The food and drinks come out in a cute little spaceships conveyor belt. I wish though we would have some kind of light indicating our space chip was coming because I felt like we kept in suspense as other people's drinks and meals were passing us by. Parking is pretty decent, but it took me a while to get one since they were busy that night. 10/10 recommend for anyone who wants a great meal and cocktail before starting their night.

Yelp
We had a reservation for dinner and were seated promptly upon arrival. There's servers take your order and then an automated robot container brings the items to your table. Everything we ordered was delicious. I wish I had been more hungry to try more on the menu. I will definitely be back when I'm in town. The theme is lots mix between space and cowboys with beautiful clouds and desert fixtures decorating the space. They even gave us a free succulent plant. This place is a must visit

Yelp
My visit to Space Cowboy was truly an unforgettable dining experience. While the service was a bit rough at first, we arrived early for our reservation and felt slightly overlooked. Our experience quickly turned around once our waiter came to assist us. From that point on, the service was attentive and seamless, setting the tone for a fantastic evening. The ambiance of Space Cowboy is something truly out of this world. It feels like stepping into a starry night in the desert, with twinkling cloud lights and a whimsical, otherworldly vibe. The art on the walls was all space themed and absolutely stunning to look at. Adding to the charm are the adorable little robot waiters, which made the dining experience so much fun. Watching them zoom around with dishes was delightful, and they were surprisingly efficient. Our waiter was incredibly helpful in curating the perfect meal for the evening, offering thoughtful recommendations that we wouldn't have considered on our own. The food itself was phenomenal. The aguachile was refreshing, with the perfect balance of heat and acidity, while the squid ink risotto was rich, creamy, and packed with richness. Even the tableware added to the experience, with unique, creative designs that matched the restaurant's theme and elevated the presentation of every dish. I tried asking the waiter where they buy their dishes from and apparently they're all custom made. Space Cowboy- if you start selling your dishes, I will happily purchase a full set of them. And the desserts? Absolute perfection. I'm so glad we ordered two because they were the perfect ending to the night. The ube foam panna cotta was an absolute standout--light, creamy, and bursting with flavor. It was a phenomenal dish that I'd return for alone. Space Cowboy is a one-of-a-kind spot, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit! Highly recommend for date nights and special occasions.

Yelp
Space Cowboy offers a truly unique dining experience. I had an off menu drink made with Mezcal, and it was absolutely amazing - definitely a highlight. The ambience was fun and unexpected, with a modern, futuristic twist that creates a cool, relaxed vibe. One of the best features was the little robots delivering food - a quirky touch that added to the overall experience. However, a bit of explanation from the staff on how to interact with the robots (like whether to send empty plates and glasses back) would've been helpful, especially for first timers. The food did not disappoint either. The corn ribs and Spaceballs were delicious, with bold flavors. While it's not somewhere I'd visit all the time, Space Cowboy makes for a great occasional treat.

Yelp
It was such a great experience. Me and my boyfriend made a reservation for Thursday night for a date night because it was our anniversary. We were seated immediately even though we were about 30 minutes late. They were able to accommodate us. I got their version of an espresso martini and he got the life water drink. Both drinks were absolutely fabulous. We also got a side of their fries which were so flavorful, crispy and fresh. Although they come and take your order at your table, all the dishes and drinks are served to you on one of those automated space ship trains. Because it was our anniversary; they were sooo kind to bring us a special cotton candy dessert and a little succulent as a gift. Truly made our night!

Yelp
This place has been on our list for a bit. We finally had a night to try it. Made reservations for the same day at 6:30 pm. We were seated promptly, and our waiter came quickly. We ordered a couple of their cocktails and heard about their night special. We got two starters and two entrees. I would pass on the beef tartare next time. It wasn't for me. We got the Space Balls, and I enjoyed the Tuna but not the salmon. The Inked Seafood Risto is my new favorite entree in the city. The aged Beef entree was good but didn't blow me away like the Inked Seafood Risto. The robots are cute and something different. The space is pretty. I assume it is very loud when the place is full. It's always nice to have a parking lot in Austin.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cool concept to a restaurant. Very modern inside with cowboy and space decor. The machines that bring you your food remind me of the jetsons. We started with the space balls. Tuna was amazing salmon was okay. I got the octopus and my husband got the filet. Both were very good, but I think the octopus could use one less sauce. Overall really fun restaurant. Definitely recommend checking it out.

Yelp
We went for a big company dinner and had a great time- the place is cool, some nice spacey decor, cute lights, and a cool concept with robots delivering some of your food and drinks. The con of a big group is that we had to be split up in 4 tables- not ideal. The food was better than I expected, I love the space balls, hamachi, and crispy rice the best. The steak with goat and mushroom sauce was very good. The cowgirl steak was very thin and disappointing. I didn't try the desserts but the drinks were good (had the gin signature cocktail, very refreshing. Didn't love the tequila espresso martini though). Overall I would be happy to go back and probably would focus on the small bites.
google avatar

Melody V.

Yelp
A unique dining experience! Think elevated Kura sushi vibes. Not all the drinks come out in the "robot servers" but most do. The atmosphere feels like you're in an episode of Cowboy Bebop. We tried the old fashioned, espresso martini, space balls, and crispy rice. The food was unique and definitely an experience. The flavors leaned towards all American and Japanese fusion. The space balls are best split with a group. The crispy rice was also good but not something you couldn't get somewhere else. We couldn't stay to try the dinner menu but overall this is a cool spot to stop in for drinks at.

Yelp
Spacecowboy food is absolutely stellar. Those space balls, broccilini, corn rinds all were to die for. Their service was also absolutely unbeatable. It's my new favorite spot to eat at.

Yelp
Not sure why the reviews are so low here. I think it's a solid 4 stars. Loved the puri puri space balls, hamachi, and the risotto! The pink gin drink with lychee I had was solid, too! There's a cute little airstream that goes around a track to deliver your food. Our server was professional, knowledgeable, and timely. Love the space vibes! It's a great place for a casual date or family!
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
Checked this place out for cocktails & appetizers. Tried a variety of appetizers & the sliders were the best IMO. Loved my cocktail the contained lychee. Our server was Carleigh, who was working her first day out of training. She was awesome! Really cool vibe with the clouds hanging from the ceiling & the drinks and food delivered by little robots on tracks. Would be a good place to take people from out of town.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
This place is pretty cool for a date night. The little trolleys that deliver food and drinks are fun. Everything we tried was great. My Favorite was the sliders.
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot for date night!! Drinks are fun and they can do non alchy too! Came with some friends and enjoyed all our entrees. Service was fast and our server was very knowledgeable with the menu. She gave us some great recs. We got corn ribs, space balls, braised short rib, shishito peppers, crispy rice trio, hamachi, and sliders. Most of the dishes were app sized and good for sharing.
google avatar

Aruni G.

Yelp
Really cool vibe. Met some friends here last night for Happy Hour (sadly, they didn't seem to have a HH menu or maybe we missed it by getting there at 6pm). We enjoyed the service, food and drinks! I had the seafood risotto which was yummy. For $28 I was expecting more food but the portion size was good for one. Loved that they had a parking lot with open spaces so I didn't have to drive around forever looking for a spot! The robots were a fun, interesting touch but we also appreciated having a human server. ;-). She was really helpful and even took a photo of us that we shared on social media.

Yelp
Went here recently with a friend for dinner. They have a small parking lot outside and also plenty of street parking around nearby. From the outside you can't really tell what it is but once you go inside it is dark and there are lots of fake cactuses and clouds floating above so definitely feels like you are in another world. When we sat down there was a very long explanation of how things worked and what to expect. They recommend you order all your bites first and they will send it out based on flavor profile. It's tapas style so lots of small bites. We got the space balls, hamachi, beef tartare, ceviche, and then a cheese one and some drinks. I got a mocktail that had pandan, coconut, but it was just kind of okay. Overall my favorites were space balls, hamachi, and ceviche but it was just so pricey for what you got. Overall we felt meh about price to ratio of food. The best thing those we ate was I've panacotta at end. They also have little robots bringing your food out on trains. Which was cool, but also pretty distracting when you are trying to have a conversation with someone. I think it was fun for a one off but don't think I would necessarily go back.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
I think a 3.5 would be most accurate. I'm still a bit confused about the experiences. The food was really tasty, but the whole night just felt off, maybe because it's a holiday weekend and it was busy for a Sunday? I'm not sure. We arrived around 7:30pm and they only had a table for 2 right by the door, which was unpleasant but we took it anyway. There were a lot of people standing around waiting near us. After we were not greeted by a waiter for nearly 20 minutes, we got up to leave. The hostesses saw us and asked us to stay and said they had just flagged our waiter and they offered us champagne to stay. So we sat back down. Our waiter was nice and energetic, and I'm not sure any of this was his fault. But the issues continued. Our food was delicious but one item came out wrong and was sent back, so we had to wait again to get that out, and after we had eaten it, the waiter brought out another serving, thinking that was the fixed out. So he thought we had been waiting even longer for the actual dish. Then we finished and wanted to leave, and he said he would bring us a special dessert, but we ended up waiting another 20 minutes for that too. So we really just wanted to go. Food wise, everything was tasty. We got the hummus, sliders, space balls, Krispy rice, and broccolini. I had the mocktail of the Life Water and enjoyed it. It was beautifully plated and the flavors were really strong and fresh. I would eat the food again. But it felt like we spent most of the night waiting and just watching the robots circle the track...so not an overall great experience.

Yelp
I went to UT in the 90's so obviously the modern day Austin annoys the hell out of me. When I pulled up to Space Cowboy there was a cybertruck parked right in front and despite the painfully hard eyeroll the cybertruck/robot server combo induced, my gf was excited to go in. Let me tell you, by the end of our meal my eyes were rolling into the back of my head like the Ecstasy of St. Teresa. Our server Jared was the perfect docent for this incredibly curated exhibition of flavor. We will be back!
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
The Good: The beef short rib and mashies are comfort food at its best!l But make sure you save room for dessert! Chocolaty Ganache and gelato provided a sweet ending. The Not so Good: Felt a little like I was playing a game of Operation and waiting to get zapped if I didn't grab our food/drinks fast enough. The Ugly: Nothing glaring that would make me not come back. Yum!
google avatar

Brooke D.

Yelp
Came here with a friend that was visiting from out of town because she had seen this place on instagram and wanted to try it out. We both loved the interior design and overall vibe of this restaurant. The little shuttle robot cars were very fun and created a unique and memorable experience. Our server was incredibly friendly and kind and the service was pretty timely. Our food was very good but my only complaint is that our main entrees were barely warm when they came out. Otherwise we really enjoyed our time here and I definitely think I will bring friends here again in the future!
google avatar

Kristine L.

Yelp
What a fun and unique way to dine. My husband and I came on a Sunday evening around 5pm. It wasn't busy which is great. You order your food and drinks with a server, and a robot brings your dishes! Prices are on the higher end, but food is pretty good. I really enjoyed the tuna space balls and the ube panne cotta. The Lady in Veil drink was a bit too sweet in my opinion. Talking to the waiter, it seems like this place can get packed on the weekends and sometimes the robots shut down. When that happens, service can take more time. I recommend for a few snacks and cocktails before dinner, but you may need to order a lot to get full.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
THE BIG: Located right off of 7th Street in East Austin. Small parking lot available. Inside is a dark space + desert theme with small rocketships delivering food. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here on a Sunday afternoon after booking on resy. Service was great with the waitress coming up and explaining the menu. Then the serving service was super fun with the rocketship zooming by you delivering your food and drinks. We got a lady in the veil cocktail that was a nice summer drink with a refreshing aftertaste. We weren't too hungry and wanted to check out the space so we got the space balls, stardust fries and finished off with the ube panna cotta. The space balls were interesting as it's essentially crudo in a pain puri ball. Stardust fries had so much dust on it, it was great. And the ube panna cotta is always a nice, not too sweet dessert to finish off the meal. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the damage done for 3 dishes and a drink was around $65 including tip. I'd visit again and try some more of their dishes since the whole experience is really fun!

Yelp
What a fun way to spend Father's Day, or just a fun night with friends. Food and cocktails were unique and exciting (delivered on a robot train). Service was stellar, to be a little puny, out of this world. Jared gave us some great recommendations which were all spectacular. We can't wait to go back and try more culinary delights. Favorites included, space balls, shishitos, sliders, bone marrow, octopus, cowgirl steak, and short ribs. Don't skip dessert! The mousse was ridiculously good, even the edible flowers added something special to the palate.
google avatar

Daichan S.

Yelp
Don't come here too early because you might not get much robot action. While there are waiters and waitresses to take your order, the food is delievered via a train robot. So, if there isn't anyone in the restaurant during the time you're there, you'll only get the robot that delivers to your table. I also didn't like the fact that considering there weren't many people in the restaurant, my friend and I were seated near the bar where we were the robot's first stop then back to the bar it went, so we surely didn't get much robot action considering we weren't far from the docking. However, the staff were friendly and the food is good. I ordered the Cowgirl Cut. This is a 6 oz cowgirl cut with smoked butter and spicy chimmichuri. It doesn't come with any sides so I also ordered the corn ribs. Both were really tasty but I believe the advertising for this is different than what they actually offer. It appears the advertising is to get you in the door and then you're given a smaller portion. Great restuarant for kids or larger parties as parties of 1 or 2 get seated near the bar/docking of the robots.

Yelp
Super fun and super delicious. It's probably a couple more $$ but you pay for the ambiance and the experience. We had such a blast and our server was amazing. Fun place to bring friends as it's entertaining! The burrata was so good we ordered another.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
This a very cool idea and definitely worth the experience; however, it is only good for the experience. The food is just okay and the drinks are tasty. The prices are a little steep for okay food. Small portion sizes and not a ton of flavor. They do have a parking lot which is a plus. Cool ambiance and vibe. Nice friendly staff.
google avatar

Audrey V.

Yelp
It's a no for me... just a bit off. From the ambiance to the robots, I see what they're going for but they sadly just missed the mark. The robots are a bit gimmicky and I felt like the food was a bit meh. We didn't get the space balls even though other people seem to like them... so maybe that is where I went wrong. I will say the crispy rice trio was good, and the beef tartare had good flavor (but was too small). Also there were many many typos on the menu which turned me off from the start. It might be worth visiting once, but isn't somewhere I'd ever return to.

Yelp
I have to start with dessert bc WOW. The Ube Foam Panna Cotta was PHENOMENAL. If there is anything to get here, this is a must. It was so good, we ordered another one. My friend declared "it was one of the best desserts she has ever had". The ube foam was bursting with flavor (ube infused with thyme and vanilla), balanced out with the milkiness of the panna cotta and the tartness of the torched fruit. Beautifully plated, a variety of textures (loved the little sprinkles of crunchy ube on top), and a perfect marriage of flavors. Yum. I still dream about this dessert. Now back to the beginning. I knew Space Cowboy had a little bit of a rough start and not the best reviews, but it looked like a unique experience and I'm so glad we gave it a try. The outside sign was looking a little rough, but once we walked in, the decor was really cute, with fluffy clouds and twinkling lights above us. We went on a Thursday evening around 7 and were seated right away. Our server was extremely friendly and available, checking on us to get our orders in right away and making sure we had what we needed. We ordered the space balls - this was a very interesting and unique dish to try! If you're a foodie, you'll appreciate the experience. Different textures and flavors. Not sure this is a dish I'd order again, but definitely glad I was able to try it and I would recommend trying it once. I loved my Kepler Island cocktail, I ordered it twice. I was worried it would be too sweet (was told it was similar to a piña colada), but it ended up being very well balanced. The Twilight Zone drink tasted like a New York Sour - was very smooth, couldn't even taste the bourbon, which is dangerous! We also got the sliders, which were good, but nothing special. We also tried the Chocolate Ganache & Gelato - not sure where the "gelato" was. It was alright - the chocolate was good, but not the most cohesive dessert and the nuts were a little too overpowering. Definitely recommend the Ube Foam Panna Cotta over this! I cannot rave about it enough.

Yelp
10/10 recommend. This place is so unique and the concept I was in love with. The decor and ambiance was immaculate. The food comes out in spaceships and they stop at your table. The service was quick and great date spot. The drinks were so so delicious. The food was amazing. The fries were crispy and well balanced. The star of the show....Ube Foam Panna Cotta. I will dream about it for days. It was the most unique and delicious dessert I have ever tried. Can't wait to come back and rave about this place for the rest of my life!

Yelp
We've been wanting to try this place out for a while and FINALLY got to experience this novel restaurant. Parking in Front of a pretty non descript warehouse type structure I don't know what to expect! Inside, a darkly lit room with moons and clouds lit up the ceiling. Great energy and vibe. Robot trolleys served up a delicious blend of tapas style plates. Really great raw selection and fusion that took elements of Spanish flavors mixed with other great tastes. If you're looking for a standard chicken or pasta list this isn't the place for you. Meat and fish and so many bursts of Mediterranean flavors tempt the palette. We had a chance to speak with the owner who we had met while she visited our table a couple of times to check in. If I could recommend one thing. It would be the Uber Panna Cotta! Service couldn't be better. A long review but definitely a pretty great date night experience or group gathering. We'll be back for sure!

Yelp
We came in for drinks and an appetizer and were not disappointed!! The service was also top notch! Our server was so knowledgeable and friendly. Now let's talk about the restaurant itself. The decor is so perfectly curated, giving a futuristic yet comfortable ambiance.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had a fun time at this cute spot for a Sunday dinner. Our server (the human one) was friendly and helpful with suggestions. He was also very attentive throughout our meal. We decided to have several small plates so we could try different foods. After seeing them mentioned on several reviews, we started with the Space Balls. I've never had anything like them and they were great! Very unique texture and flavor. We then got the Corn Ribs with Hummus. The corn was seasoned nicely and the hummus was different than typical hummus which was fun. We finished up with Steak Tartare and Roasted Octopus. The tartare came with a couple of tasty sauces which paired nicely with the meat. The octopus was honestly my least favorite dish only because the octopus was slightly overcooked and rubbery. Overall, we had a fun experience that I would recommend.

Yelp
It's an interesting concept with the robots and definitely a fun way to engage but it didn't really hit the spot for me. The food and drinks were good but nothing stood out for me. We tried the space balls, shisito peppers, rice cakes, land/sea skewers, and steak. Skewers and peppers were delicious!

Yelp
Food was great I'm not sure why the reviews were low. We (a group of 8) came in on a weekday at it was pretty busy, we had a reservation. I love the inner theme of the restaurant. The robots could feel slow sometimes and I have seen rarely waiters coming in and putting extra plates in which the robots were able to keep up with the load. The service was excellent (especially our server Bob) and the food was good and fresh. The food is meant to be shared. So in that way, I feel like it is overpriced for the restaurant but again it is not an everyday occasion... Some great ones were: beef filet, short rib, shishito peppers, ribeye sliders, corn ribs, fries. I'd only recommend the panna cotta dessert! It was amazing! The others were odd to my tastes...

Yelp
Made a reservation for 9:15 on a Saturday night and it wasn't too crowded. I'd consider this place to be a great spot if you're visiting from out of town or special celebrations. The interactive experience in receiving your food from the mobile carts is super adorable, and so is the decoration around the restaurant. They have fake succulents, cactus everywhere, and puffy looking clouds hanging from above. I would say aesthetically it looked kind of cheap, like they were on a budget, but the food and experience make it up for it. I'm also not a fan of the open kitchen concept, as I was looking directly at dirty dishes left in a bucket as I was eating. Now to the food, I was so surprised! We order 3 tapa style plates and 2 cocktails that were so tasty. My favorite were the space balls that had Salmoln with an avocado sauce and just an overall explosion of flavors in your mouth. I got the marg on mars cocktail that was tequila based margarita strawberry flavored cocktail but it wasn't too sweet. Just like every spot in Austin, kind of pricey but you pay for the experience. I enjoyed my time here and the food was great. I would definitely come back if people were visiting to give them the Austin food experience

Yelp
Before I even begin to talk about the food I need to talk about our service. Our server Jared made this experience infinitely better. He was attentive, not pushy at all, very thoroughly explained the menu and the best way to order the food. He joked around a bit with us and was just an absolute delight. This place had date night written all over but it was casual enough to swing by with friends and enjoy some drinks as well. Everything we had was just bursting with flavor, the steak medium rare and juicy with a delicious smoked garlic and roasted thyme sauce. The octopus was amazing with the taro puree. Every bite I had here was better than the last. I let Jared know that it was my anniversary and he not only sent over some complimentary champagne as a congratulations but at the end of the meal we decided that we weren't going to get any dessert and he went ahead and gave us the Ube Foam Panna Cotta as a congratulations. It was a little expensive here, probably one of the more expensive places I've gone to but I will absolutely be coming back and have issue with the bill as long as they keep up the flavors. Jared better be ready for me to come back and try everything else out!! Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Wait time 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Well done Space Cowboy!

Yelp
Parking: It is a small lot, would recommend to Uber Service was great! Highly recommend making a reservation. Our server Tyler was amazing! His recommendations were spot on and we even left it up to him to choose our last drink of the night and it did not disappoint. He had the bartender make us a drink that won't be on the menu until next week and would highly recommend. It was a spicy margarita. Cocktails are great and food was delicious! The menu rotates every 2-3 weeks. Drinks: Kiss at twilight zone was a perfectly balanced bourbon and red wine cocktail that was not too sweet and would have again. Young Gun was like an amaretto sour and so delicious! Tuxedo cowboy and cowboy del lune were both good for those old fashioned fans. Food: Seafood aguachile tostada was SPICY! If you can't handle that DO NOT get it, if you do like spicy I highly recommend it because it was sooooo good! Braised short rib was good but the inked seafood risotto took the win. The fries were perfectly crispy and the chipotle aioli was perfect dipping sauce to it.

Yelp
If you're looking for a unique dining experience, this place is a must-visit. The standout feature here is their innovative use of technology--food and drinks are delivered by robots, providing a futuristic touch while minimizing direct server interactions. The menu features some exceptional dishes. The "Space Balls" are a highlight, with flavorful, creamy tuna in pani puri served on avocado crema, perfect for dipping. The salad with burrata is also noteworthy, although the root vegetable chips didn't quite hit the mark. I would have preferred more bread options. The Crispy Rice Trio featuring a selection of smoked fish and meats on crispy rice is both unique and well-executed. However, some sides, such as broccolini and shishito peppers, were less innovative. Dessert was a bit of an adventure. We received the wrong item initially (a banana crumble) by the robot but ended up trying it--an unexpected delight that reaffirmed our choice of the meringue-topped poached pears with matcha ice cream. The textures and flavors were truly extraordinary. Overall, this spot offers a fun atmosphere combined with high-quality food and drinks. Highly recommended for a memorable dining experience.

Yelp
This was such an awesome date night experience for tapas and small plates. I recommend not coming super hungry for this restaurant and instead expect to have bites and drinks while you enjoy the ambiance. Otherwise, the bill would add up because tapas range between $12-$27 each. The service and staff were very kind, helpful, and knowledgeable of the menu. Foods: Space Balls ($12): 2 puris with one filled with salmon tartare, goats cheese, tangerine, dill and capers and another puri filled with tuna tartare, with a lemongrass, cillantro and serrano ponzu. Torched Crispy Rice Trio ($12): 1) Salmon tataki with coffee infuse gravelax, avocado & morita sauce. 2) Seared Tuna with citrus crust and serrano chilly aioli. 3) Seared beef fillet with brown butter Bemaise sauce. Cowboy Ribeye Sliders Duo ($17): Sliders have masala butter aioli, crispy shallots, & goat cheese mushroom Ube Foam Panna Cotta ($10): vanilla & thyme infused with be foam & torched seasonal fruit

Yelp
Space Cowboy has a bit of a controversial reputation in Austin, but I was so intrigued by the aesthetic and the robots that I had to try it out for myself. There is a small parking lot outside of the building, and you are actually allowed to park next to the body piercing place next door too as long as it isn't one of their two specified parking spots. Once inside, I felt that the decor looked better in photos than in person. Certain pieces had a DIY feel to them. However, food and drinks are way more important to me than decor, so I didn't mind too much. As someone who is always asking the waiter how sweet a drink is, I absolutely loved the details on the menu showing how sweet and how boozy each cocktail was. I ended up ordering the Kepler Island as a mocktail, so I can't really say how good the drinks are. The mocktail just tasted like coconut milk, which was pretty disappointing. Even more disappointing was that my drink wasn't served by a robot, which is pretty much the whole reason why we came. My friend ordered the Venus Seduction and she really enjoyed it. For food, we split the fries and the space balls. I had super low expectations for the food, so I was pleasantly surprised. The space balls actually had a decent amount of fish for the price and were pretty tasty, although not the most elegant to eat. The fries had the perfect amount of seasoning on them. However, I don't think either of the dishes were very special and I wouldn't go out of my way to have them again. I think it's important to note that our waiter recommended ordering about 3 dishes each for a full meal, which would easily put your bill above $100 before drinks. Overall, I think this is the kind of place you visit once and never return to. If you really just want to be served a drink by a robot, I recommend visiting Kura Revolving Sushi for a fraction of the price.

Yelp
I came here on a Thursday night with two friends (one of whom made the reservation). I'm not a drinks person at all, but will participate without issue in a "girl's night out" even if my price of admission is a boring cocktail. My friend heard about SC through social media, and also heard that it has been getting mixed reviews from the get-go. The ambiance itself was very classy yet laid-back, but the only thing that tied it to "space" was the chubby little motorized space cars that came rolling down like those table train sets! My mocktail was their "fruity" option, which was straight up pineapple juice. My friends seemed satisfied with their drinks enough to order a second round. For food to share, we had the fries, which came encrusted with a black pepper like spice which reminded me of a spice used in Indian food, so I was a fan, haha. I think we all agreed SC was just a one-time thing, but it was an experience and a fun night out!

Yelp
I simply cannot comprehend the negative reviews I've read here. Those not like the design and decor just don't seem to be able to grasp the concept of art. As an interior designer, I find the theme to be unique, original, sophisticated, and fun! The service is impeccable from the host staff to servers. Absolutely some of the friendliest folks I've come across at a restaurant. They clearly love their jobs and people. Let's talk about the bit service...ADORBS!! Not only adorbs but innovative, clever, and fun! The mixologists on staff really know their craft. The cocktails are literally liquid works of art. The food is tapas-style and the ambience complements the food theme perfectly. Potato puree with a hint of vanilla?!? YES, PLEASE!! All of our dishes were pure flavor perfection. And this next part made me tear up with joy and just shows how special the place is: We were in the parking lot walking home (yep, lucky enough to live within walking distance) when the greeter ran out after us. She presented us with a thank you succulent. How amazing is that?!? Incredible all around. Go here. Enjoy the experience. You'll not be disappointed.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come check out this place for a while now. Great date night place love the ambiance and vibe as soon as we walked in the door they greeted us with kindness and ready to serve! We made a reservation for 6:45 pm we didn't get seated right away but they gave us some champagne while we waited and we were happy with that. Then we got seated shortly after "Trevor" our server was so knowledgeable and amazing we had just come for small bites and drinks and of course to see what the hype "robot" that serves you was all about! We loved "Bob" he brought us our delightful drinks and our food Must try space balls 10/10, fries were delicious as well. We will be back to try more from the menu.
