My husband and I ate here as a last minute dinner out. We called at 7:30 and were able to get an 8:30 reservation, waiting about 10 minutes once we got there which wasn't bad for a Saturday night.
The staff was very polite, helpful, and attentive. We never were left without water for more than a minute. The ambiance was really nice too: calm with low lighting and pleasant decor (exposed brick, greenery, etc), and they offer some complimentary bread and oil.
In general, the restaurant is a lower cost Italian restaurant in NYC. Point in case, the menu is on a paper placemat. Normally you wouldn't expect a lot from a restaurant like this, but the food was exceptional for the cost in NYC. At first I was thinking of rating a 4 because of a couple small things (small wine menu, no offer of more bread, the caper flavor was a bit drowned out by the cream sauce in my salmon dish), but in the end I gave a 5 for my reason above: exceptional food for the cost in NYC.
My husband started with a casear that was tasty. The greens were light and crisp; the dressing flavorful. I Decided to try one of each of the appetizer rice balls. They came with a side of red sauce that was really good. I was in love with all three and couldn't pick a favorite! I kept taking a bite or two, going on to the next, saying it was the best, moving on and saying THAT one was the best...over and over until they were finished! My husband's spaghetti had hunks of delicious fresh mozz, and mine was a wonderful combination of salmon, capers, asparagus, and cream - yum yum yum! All good flavors, and the pasta was wonderfully done - perfectly al dente! Unfortunately, I ate everything and was too full for dessert!
Wrap up: if you're looking for good Italian in NYC that won't break the bank this is your place!
