A vibrant bistro serving delectable Spanish tapas, perfect for an upscale happy hour and bringing a taste of Madrid to Bethesda.
"José Andrés’ all-day comfort foods spot, featuring a menu full of eggs, stews, and breakfast sandwiches inspired by northwestern Spain." - Tierney Plumb
"Have brunch the Jose Andrés way at this Bethesda favorite, where eggs and potatoes get particular attention. There are several tapas and sandwiches to choose from here as well, and vegetables aren’t an afterthought, either." - Missy Frederick, Tim Ebner
"Superstar chef José Andrés revamped what was formerly Jaleo into a Spanish-style diner serving all-day breakfast menus full of fried egg dishes, sandwiches, stews, and plenty of savory jamon iberico." - Tim Ebner
"Andrés’ Spanish-style offerings, snug in a retrofitted box office, also include a Basque-styled sausage dog, gazpacho, sangria, and the famed flan from Spanish Diner." - Evan Caplan
"Hudson Yards is full of people who are “working for the weekend,” and those people require Happy Hours to tide them over. Many of the establishments in Mercado Little Spain host “sangria hour” with discounted drinks and snacks from 4-7pm. But Spanish Diner, a huge separate restaurant with its own courtyard and TVs playing sports, feels more like the bustling bar you want to let loose in after work. Come for the tapas and sangría de cava, and if you’re still hungry, stay for dinner combo platters of jamón-stuffed pork loin or seared squid. Or start your day with a solid breakfast of Arroz a la Cubana with ibérico sausage and eggs. They do have “diner” in the name, after all." - Neha Talreja
