20 Houston Sandwiches to Bite Into Right Now

"Come for a bottle of your favorite booze or a six-pack of something seasonal, but stay for a Boar’s Head sandwich from this Midtown staple. The menu covers all the bases from hot to cold subs, but the muffuletta reigns supreme. Black Forest ham, hard salami, and provolone are covered in olive tapenade that will send you to Cajun heaven." - Brittany Britto Garley, Katie Holtman

Google
This was an unexpected visit. I didn't know this was the corporate store. The very first one!!! There is a bakery, a deli, a grocery area, several tasting stations, and they were even making fresh mozzarella. It was such a surprise. I also got to meet the owner of all the Specs. She was so nice. This place was efficient and friendly.

Google
Wow! So much for anyone who drinks - or doesn’t. An amazing cheese selection. We stocked up on meats and accoutrements. Make sure to start your shopping by placing your food made to order at the deli. There a place to sit and eat at the front by cash registers. You can place your big catering orders and they pull it for you. Otherwise, just peruse the store and realize all the things you didn’t know you needed. Of course, I picked the first time to go when a rap star was there – I’m not sure if they normally have that much police presence.

Google
Looked all over town for Back Pew Testament Beer and FINALLY found it ( through a lot of research online and phone calls along with in person shopping ) The atmosphere and staff along with the massive selections, make it not only a successful experience, but also an enjoyable one. Thank you to everyone there! Now… restock! I bought them all.😃

Google
This is not just a liquor store, it has a deli, snacks, cigars, and the largest selection of beverages you can imagine. It’s also like an Alcohol museum, you can see bottle that cost $20k to almost $200k. If you are in the area I recommend stopping in and just walking around even if you don’t plan on buying anything.

Google
We planned a get-together with friends and decided to visit this store specializing in beer and liquor. I was surprised by the immense variety. It was difficult to choose, but with the help of the assistant, we settled on a good bourbon.

Google
The stores themselves are great. Nice people working at them. But I feel horrible for the employees. I overheard a manager telling an employee they would no longer be allowed breaks due to a new company policy. For the corporate people who don't want to care for those who help sell their products, standing on one's feet for hours is extremely hard on a body. Young or old alike. It would be 5 stars, but I can't in good conscience give all 5 knowing someone who makes these decisions feels that allowing employees to relax for a few minutes is not something they want that do. Over my lifetime, I have found that people will do a lot for a company that they feel cares about them. Please keep that in mind, unless you are not about having a loyal and happy team.

Google
Absolutely love this location, you can shop, order a hot meal, or a custom made basket, on top of vast selection of wines, ect. The employees are amazing and very helpful.

Google
Stopped by the deli at Spec’s and I’m so glad I did. I ordered a burger, and it was absolutely delicious — juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. Special shoutout to Barbra and Jay — both were cool, professional, and made the experience even better. I’ll definitely be back!

Yelp
Spec's is quite literally is THE holy grail of liquor, grocery, and fine food stores. Located in the heart of Midtown, this is their headquarters store and for good reason, they have everything. And by everything, I mean everything. Park your car in the large neighboring lot and begin your pilgrimage through the numerous aisles of liquor, beer, wine, grocery, prepared food, cigars, glassware, drinks and ice cream. For alcohol, aisles are well marked so it's easy to find what you are looking for. If not, the sales associates are all well trained and acquainted with where items are located. Everyone is very friendly and more than happy to show you around. You might not think to visit a liquor store for groceries but Spec's really does have it all. Their cheese selection is unmatched for the seasoned connoisseur or a curious taster. Just grabbing a snack? They have tons of chips, dips, and prepared selections. Run out of the baking soda for your homemade cookies recipe, they have this too. Mom and dad coming to visit tomorrow? Grab some fancy olives, seasoned nuts, and cured salami, sure to impress. Aspiring cocktail mixologist? You have come to the right place. Spec's not only has your drink contents but also the cups themselves, the dried fruit garnishes, bitters, salts, fresh lemons, limes, and oranges, ice cube forms, basically anything you could need to make the most unusual cocktail and fuel your creative spirit. Need unicorn tears bottled on the 8th day of August? Honestly, Spec's probably has this too, and it might be on aisle 17. Finally, checkout is a breeze. The store is almost always busy but they have multiple registers and never a wait. Use your debit card for a 5% discount and you're off! That is...until next time! Salud!

Yelp
Haven't been here in a while- the food market is more inviting and cleaner! Brighter lighting and organized items. I use to come for lunch and they still serve the nicest sandwiches and friendly staff. Came to buy my hubby's Four Roses to bring back to Scotland and they carried his favorite variety. Apply for the Specs discount card it's worth the savings. Parking is plenty at this flagship location. Bakery and coffee roaster inside!

Yelp
Like HEB, Shipleys, and Whataburger Specs is a Houston only gem with not just a great liquor selection but ayrethang else you would need ie hot food, cold food, pastries, cookies, all kinds of non alcoholic drinks and snacks. If you're into charcuterie you can go nuts in here. We usually go for the BLT at the back deli but watch the spicy bread and aioli as it's forreal spicy. Best liquor store there is...

Yelp
I miss this place! It was good to return on Saturday since they're closed Sundays to stock up for the next couple days visiting with friends for the rodeo weekend. We had a sample when we walked in and then strolled through the deli- I got some cheese and meat/ and then the rest of the store. We got a good variety of rum, whiskey, and wine. Plenty of parking, friendly service, and good cash discounts. This place is huge, you can easily spend a couple hours in here. I wanted some chocolate truffles but there was no one behind the counter to help me unfortunately

Yelp
It only occurred to me that I have never done a review of one of the best liquor stores in Houston after I came for a very well organized event yesterday. First off, this location is smack dab in the middle of Houston in the midtown area. Parking is plentiful both in front and back of this massive establishment. The staff here knows their stuff and is always friendly and helpful. What sets this place apart from the rest is the extensive inventory they carry. Not only do they sell many types of alcohol, but they also carry some every day groceries and goods, cigars, and they even have baked goods. It truly can be a one stop shop for all your party needs. They also do a great job with events and tastings. Follow them on social media and through their page to be in the know. I recently found out my two favorite actors Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul from my favorite TV show Breaking Bad was making their rounds promoting their mezcal Dos Hombres. Spec's did a really good job organizing the event and was very efficient with dealing with the massive crowd that showed up. Though it is out of the way for me, when I am inside the loop, this is my go to spot for all my party needs!

The Thumbs Critic ..

Yelp
Thumbs Up: This Spec's store in Midtown offers a fantastic all-around shopping experience. Thumbs Up: It has everything you need for everyday drinks and party beverages. Thumbs Up: They even have a food deli! My favorite is the fish sandwich, though it's best enjoyed quickly as the bread can disintegrate. The spaghetti is also quite good. Thumbs Up: The wine selection is impressive--probably the largest in Houston. Thumbs Up: The staff are consistently friendly and helpful. Plus, some of the bag-boys are very attractive; I must admit, I had a hard time focusing when one of them was helping me!

Yelp
This is my favorite SPECS location! They have a nice grocery selection, with quality cheeses. My daughter loves the candy isle, which features some lesser-known sweets from other countries. Their selection of spirits is impressive, with a variety of mixers, wines, sparkling wines, and hard liquor. I don't recommend using their curbside system. I have tried three times, and it only worked out once. The other two times, I had to go in and find someone after waiting 20 - 30 minutes. Regular customers park in the designated parking, which creates another problem. They should improve this program or eliminate it.
google avatar

Jhené M.

Yelp
The food is freaking fantastic... That is typically what they are known for, outside of carrying a wide variety of spirits and wines. The service is always spectacular . Not only are people always willing to help you, but they tend to go above and beyond as well their music station selection while shopping is unmatched, so it makes for a better shopping experience. They tend to have tasters throughout the week, so if you're interested in sampling, new spirits and wines, I'd definitely would say to visit this Specs.

Yelp
It had occurred to me, that I've never written a review for my favorite spirits superstore. Specs is known all throughout town as one of the premier liquor store chains, but the downtown location is something else. One can literally do some light grocery shopping at this location, as it does carry fresh produce as well. In fact, my favorite sections are the non alcoholic sections. The imported cheeses are impressive in selection, as is the pate and various cured meats. Great place, if you are looking to create a charcuterie board. The imported candies and sweets are also a nice place to find rarer delectables. And some imported cooking ingredients can be found here. Though I've not ordered from them, I know the deli is quite the popular choice during lunch, and there's even tables set up near the registers, to enjoy your fresh made gourmet sandwich. There's also humidor with plenty of cigar offerings. Oh, and dessert? They have you covered as well with chocolates and baked goods galore. Don't forget their signature rum pecan pie during the holidays! Oh, and duck wrapped in foil, and shaped like a duck--they have that here! Definitely worth a visit for both in town and out of town guests! Even on weekday evenings, there's representatives from distillery offering samples of various liquor. Yay for getting tipsy! The holidays are a great time to visit for the various yearly gift sets from your favorite distilleries.

Yelp
This Spec's (the original) on 2410 Smith St in downtown Houston has it all. The best beer selection in town. An outstanding wine selection. Bourbon, Scotch, Tequila, and all kinds of hard liquors and aperitifs, and mixers.... Cigars, produce, sandwiches, cheeses, chocolate.... Everything! Not to mention, the vodka aisle is an excellent place to meet single women. Also, lots of free samples. It's possible to get full and drunk here just off samples.

Yelp
I am very disappointed in the Louetta store and perhaps with Specs in general. I bought a bottle of wine with a big 12th Man on the label, in A&M maroon, and took it to a BYOB restaurant in the local area where we gathered with friends who also had ties to Texas A&M. The bottle was full of sediment, so I brought it back to the store that night to show them. The two long-term employees I have seen frequently walked away and left it to the new employee with colored hair to tell me they don't refunded opened bottles. Duh. I asked her to get a clear cup and I would show her the large flakes of sediment in the bottle, and she went into the back and brought back a JELLO SHOT container that holds all of 1 ounce of liquid. Hello! I should have poured the contents of the bottle on the counter so they could see how bad the wine was. I am left assuming Specs took some cheap azz wine and slapped a 12th Man label on it to move it. BTW, if they were assuming I was trying to grift them out of a $14 bottle of wine, I pulled up in a 100K sports car. I have to rethink my choice of liquor stores in the future. Very disappointed in this company.

Yelp
This place is a hit!!! The thing that makes it unique is that there is a dessert stand inside that serves some great sweet treats, and a hot deli that has all sorts of warm and cold sandwiches. Because I had dinner reservations, I didn't eat at the deli but it smelled awesome and I do plan to return before I leave Houston. Coming from Florida, this place is like the Buccee's of liquor stores. The brand ambassadors standing around giving samples out...making you feel warm and welcome is a great touch. The personable and knowledgeable staff made it easy to find what I was looking for and the prices are great. I can't say there's any reason to buy alcohol from anywhere else when there's a Spec nearby.

Letha I.

Yelp
I ordered a bottle of whiskey and it was sold out before my order was pulled. That was disappointing but... The online service mgr, Rahin, stayed on the phone with me for a long time searching every store in the greater Houston area until he located what I wanted. He put me on hold and called the store and asked them to pull and hold it until I arrived. Now that's customer service. Thank you again, Rahin, for going above and beyond to help me. You've solidified my loyalty to Specs.

Régine A.

Yelp
Spec s has a ton of different alcohol so best place for the choice! Best Wiskey in Town!

Yelp
Great selection of wine and charcuterie here So this is my favorite Spec's to come to whenever I manage to get to this location. Almost every time I come in it is in the evening, and every time I get to this location during my adventure I notice the same gentleman who is older, who works there, taking down the American flag being held by the very large bunny that's in the picture. Every time he takes it down with such care regardless, if it is raining or 105° outside he always comes out takes the flag off the pole make sure it doesn't touch the ground and he folds it up. Some thing about that resonates with me every time I see it, (probably because I have a lot of military in my family) just made me want to get out of the car and thank him for doing this every night regardless of the weather. He responded with a very big smile and he said it's almost dark. We have to take it down because of the neighborhood. And I responded to him that I understood but that still appreciated that he took such care with taking down the flag, he asked if I had ever served in the military or if any of my family had and I told him yes, that I come from a family of army and navy, but mostly navy. I asked him the same and he said that he never had an opportunity to serve in the military, but that he takes pride in taking that flag down every night. He then he asked if we could hug, because nobody ever thanked him before. So of course I hugged him and I told him the next time I was here I would make sure to say hello. He smiled so big and said "I'm going to tell my wife when I get home nobody's ever thanked me before". I've always loved this Specs because they do have a great selection, however, appreciating the staff and people like Anthony makes all the difference. Be kind, say thank you, and appreciate the freedoms that the flag brings. So, next time you're in Specs on Smith and you see that American Flag waving in the wind remember why it's there.... And remember as night comes Anthony will take good care of her and put her to bed at night!!

Yelp
Definitely on my top five fave Spec's in Houston. I've visited many times to purchase not only spirits but their snacks, soups, pate, produce, and also have ate at their delicious deli! On my most recent visit, Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston from Breaking Bad (top ten fave TV series) were there to sign bottles of their new mezcal called Dos Hombres Mezcal. Even though I was not one of the lucky fans to get a bottle signed, I saw them as they were exiting Spec's and Aaron Paul took a video selfie of all of us. It is very cool Spec's hosts these signings. I also saw G-Eazy when he was promoting Stillhouse Whiskey at this Spec's location awhile back. While waiting in line, I also purchased a Philly Cheesesteak at their deli since I got famished. It was delish and so worth it!
google avatar

Jeannie W.

Yelp
This place is like a candy store for adults. Huge store with a wide selection of alcohol, from wines to hard liquor. What I like best about this place is that they serve sweets as well, inexpensive sweets that are delish! Staff is friendly, I bought a red velvet cheese muffin and got another for free just because 1 was slightly smushed. The velvet cheese muffin was so good, so was the carrot cake and summer berry bar! This place is a great one stop shop for your cravings! Would definitely recommend this location. What a fun atmosphere to walk around and discover different things to try.
google avatar

Goose G.

Yelp
Best selection by far of anything you desire to drink. There's always a friendly smile waiting g if you need assistance. Actually wanted the deli today, everything is just amazing. Fresh and made to order in minutes. Chicken salad is outstanding one of the best. The Texas BLT is the BOMB . It's on jalapeño cheese bread with L &T with Jalapeño Pepper Bacon and ADD Avocado it just melts on your mouth. I love this place but what is so disappointing is they will let anyone in!!! Three higher than a kite liberals not even trying to hide it. The girl was so stoned she was trying her hard it to fall flat of her face. They stunk so bad you could smell them a couple isles away. Not the first time I e encountered this at the downtown location. Need to clean up your place!!!
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
I came for blinis but left with confidence. My mom needed blinis for caviar and the only Spec's in town that has it is the downtown location. I journeyed here and even though I was not buying liquor, the pay screen requires that those who are making a purchase confirm they are at least 21 years old. The cashier and his colleague told me to click that I was at least 21 today before ringing me up. I told them I am about to have a birthday and change decades, and they both asked if I was 29. I thanked them profusely for giving me 10 years back of life, and told them I need to come by every day because they made my day! They piled it on, "No way you are 10 years older than we think!" So go to Spec's and get all the compliments. It is worth the drive to downtown!
google avatar

Germaine B. B.

Yelp
Spec's downtown ROCKS. It's a like a Mini Mart of goodness. This particular SPEC's is the only Specs in town that stocks a certain German Beer. I go about every 6 months to stock up and the service is always on point. Mr. Andrew in the Beer Department is very informative and eager to help. I have no problems driving all the way from Seabrook for this great service. Thank you Specs!!!
google avatar

Carla H.

Yelp
Saturdays are an especially nice day to visit and sample potential new favorites. It's also THE location to find a greater variety of unique finds or that special wine you've been searching for.
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
The only place to buy wine- at the Smith location. Mr Castellano is very helpful, as are all the employees on the floor- great Italian wines and Stewart Cellars!!

John B.

Yelp
Doesn't get any better with selection of spirits! You could spend all day looking for the perfect mixer and spirit. Wines are full variety with many worldly choices. It's an easy place to shop with plenty of help with questions!

K K.

Yelp
Looking for ANY alcohol available in Texas, Spec's most likely has it! The staff is quite knowledgeable and can usually spot the confused expression on your face as you comb through the aisles, and are happy to assist. I think the prices are better or competitive with most stores in town.
google avatar

Robert R.

Yelp
One of the best selections anywhere. The prices are pretty good but not perfect. It was a toss up between 4 stars and 5 stars - it is almost perfect.
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
This place is a treasure chest. Not only for spirits, wine and craft beer but also for cheese, meats and all the other "good stuff" that helps pull together a fabulous party. For example, they carry a bar of Dellalo's olives from Pennsylvania - jackpot! we spent our visit slowly weaving through the isles and being greeted by the well-trained and highly knowledgeable staff before deciding upon our purchases. Our moseying pass included a test sample of rum as well as an energy drink and cheese sample. It seems that they often carry samples which make the shopping experience even more fun than it already is. I was especially impressed by their wide variety of canned fish products as well as caring several of my favorite cheeses. Their wine selection spans from cheap and sweet to dry imports from all around the world. This is the kind of place where you can go and say "we are making a Thai dinner what is the best white wine to pair it with?" Or "I've been exploring Austrian Gerwusterminer, what all do you offer?" Have fun and set enough time aside to explore and soak it all in!
google avatar

Meagan H.

Yelp
We need one of these in NC. We are here for the UFC fights and I did some research on where to go for liquor since our tequila options are very small in NC. We wanted a place we could also get water, snacks and sanitizer. This place is perfect! The staff was very helpful in guiding us through different tequila and mezcal selections to bring home. The snack section is awesome! They have all you need for an adult party!
google avatar

April W.

Yelp
This is the coolest package store hands down! I think its some sort of warehouse, but they have wholesale prices & the liquor here is much cheaper than I have found anywhere else. They also sell grocery items like rotisserie chicken, chips, sandwiches etc. Pretty much a one-stop shop. I wish we had one of these in my city!
google avatar

Diana S.

Yelp
You know how some women have a fetish for shoes or clothes or jewelry? Well, mine is liquor and every time I walk through the doors of this place, I get excited like a kid on Christmas! This liquor warehouse is gigantic! 9 times out of 10, they will have exactly what you are looking for. They have the hugest selection of liquor and wine in the city. The sales people are friendly, available, and knowledgeable. I've gotten great suggestions of certain things to try and all have been spot on, as described. Check out lines are quick, even on a crowded weekend. If you buy cases of liquor like we do (don't judge), they will gladly help you bring out your items and load up you car. Only negative thing about this place- there are sometimes some sketchy characters outside who will follow you to your car and beg you for money. There is a huge back parking lot and no security back there. I would advise to park in front of the store entrance or at least where the majority of people are parked. Please be safe and aware of your surroundings. Otherwise, cheers!
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
Great service and good location. All Spec's stores carry great products. Staff refers clients to other stores as needed.
google avatar

charles L.

Yelp
if you're looking for rare and older wines, I wouldnt bother with Specs, try Total Wine. Spec website's store availability is a joke and bs. They dont have a centralized inventory system, you literally have to call every freakin store. Unbelievable.
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
If you have not been here go. It is what we dream of Texas having...liquor and a grocery store. What!!! There is everything you want in a liquor store and a small grocery and deli. This place is a must go even if you don't drink.

Juan A.

Yelp
Great place, wonderful establishment. The employees are very on point. The food is lovely.
google avatar

Manuel H.

Yelp
This place is amazing! There was so much to see and experience. I was surprised to see that it was much more than drinks to see. Even though the selection was out of this world. We took our friends from CT and they were awestruck. Simply put that if you could not find what you wanted they probably were making it in the back. The selections were out of this world and the staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I mean there was so much to see and choose from. The prices were better than other places. My friends found what was not easy to find in other places. When I say the place was huge I could it was "YUUUUUUGE"!!!! If nothing else you must go for the experience.

Melinda F.

Yelp
I love this store and the staff are so friendly and helpful especially David Neff who works in the Beer section. He held one of the last Budweiser holiday steins for me and was incredibly nice and personable.

Nancy P.

Yelp
VERY RUDE employee in Spring Branch (Houston). I wasn't even asking him when I asked if they had Crawford Bock in bottles. He said "never heard of it". Dude, it's the "Astros beer". Then the guy I did ask took up for him and said "he doesn't drink beer". Took my business elsewhere and won't be back.
google avatar

Rodney B.

Yelp
I had heard that this store was different than their other stores, so we went there last weekend. It looks from the outside like you might expect a Spec's store to look. They are typically one of the better liquor stores along with Total Wine & Twin Liquors. They usually have pretty great selections of everything you need to stock your bar or get ready for a party. Once inside, WOW! It's a specialty grocery store & deli with lots of good things to eat & drink while you're there, as well as stuff to take home. Their seafood salad blows the grocery stores out of the water! There's an awesome coffee section with lots of different bulk whole beans, as well as pre packaged coffees. There are tables up front where you can sit & eat. There are tastings going on where you can try different things. They have all kinds of meats, salads, sweets & stuff that I haven't seen anywhere else. They also have many things that you might find in other specialty stores like British Depot or online stores like Vermont Country Store. This location stands apart from anything I've seen on my side of town! Visiting this store was a fun experience! We were there for over 3 hours. I would recommend checking it out. I will likely go there again.
google avatar

Lance S.

Yelp
WOWZERS!! I've seen this warehouse driving by before but I'd never been in. Until tonight. Three words. A. MAZ. ING. I went in for Saint Arnold Icon Green. They don't have it here in Conroe yet, so I made a stop since we were in Houston today. This place is HUGE! I don't think I can go back to our little Spec's anymore and feel I've done myself any justice. Lol. They had a row dedicated and fully stocked just for Texas Beer. It was a little overwhelming really. But in a great way! They had plenty of Icon Green so I got a 6-pack if that. Also found a couple of other items to take home. I could stayed a lot longer, except my family was waiting for me in the car. So I'll have to go back sometime. When I can take my time looking around. The people there, as all Spec's are, we're super friendly and helpful. If you're ever around downtown Houston, you should go check it out!
google avatar

Jorge A.

Yelp
This was probably my 2nd time ever coming to this location, even though I've used their lot for parking a bunch in the past (don't do it, you can get towed but luckily I didn't). Didn't realize how big this spot actually was until I went recently, since the first time I went I was in and out and it was quite a while back. Again, the place is huge so there's tons of options on just about any type of alcohol you're looking for, and they have a pretty juicy sized deli, which I'm curious to check out. I specifically remember seeing some soups that I'm curious to try one day if I remember. I went on a Monday around 6 right before the Astros game, and I was able to be helped right away when it came time to pay, and the cashier was friendly. Def recommend checking it out if you're in the area. The only reason for -1 star is because parking can suck.

Yelp
The biggest liquor store I've ever been in! This place is HUGE. It's gigantic. It's immense. You get the idea. I've never been in a liquor store of this magnitude before. You enter through the non-alcoholic area of the liquor store. Why have a non-alcoholic area in a liquor store, you might ask? Because they have an area for cool sodas, garnishes, olives, cheeses, charcuteries, caviar, and other things to nosh on while you have your drinks. The rest of the store is sorted by type of booze per aisle. Just cruising the aisles, you're sure to see stuff that you've never seen or heard of. Just overwhelmed and bewildered in some of the aisles, I was sure to find a clerk who knew their stuff, and made recommendations based on what I liked. The clerks seem to spend a bunch of their time sampling the wares so they know what they're talking about. The beer selection was also huge. They had things sorted by country, so you could easily browse through the room temperature beers, and make selections based on geography. I found a few interesting local variety packs of cans that I took home. I also enjoy the mini bottle selections! They have one of the largest selection of airplane bottles I've ever seen. Again, huge. I'm always a fan of shopping local, and this is the flagship store. They also do a great job of exhibiting locally produced beers and booze! Be sure to grab a cart when shopping here, 'cause you're gonna need it.

Yelp
Biggest, most complete, most awesome, most packed Spec's in town. Friendly people to help you whether you're looking to buy wine, liquors, or cigars. They also sell rare and super expensive scotches like the 1937 and the 1940 Macallan which are priced at $35k and $34k, respectively. Yes, that's right. that's thirty five thousand and thirty four thousand dollars each. No, I can't afford them. Yes, I would totally love to have a taste. There's a small bakery inside with pretty good selections for munchies. Need cheese? They got them. Need snacks? They got them? If you live in the midtown/downtown area, there's no question that this Spec's is THE place to go to get all your alcohol needs.

Yelp
DO NOT BUY ANY GIFT CARDS FROM SPEC'S!!!! If you don't use them immediately Spec's will start deducting value from the cards until they reach ZERO!!!! Now they have you money up front in the bank, but they still deduct value each month. WHAT A RIP OFF!! In addition, you'll find many of the Spec's employees are a bit "seedy" and pretend to know about wines, most don't. They just push the wines they make a commission on, if the tag on the self has a hanging tag with statements like "Bob's Favorite" or "Great Pick", those indicate to the employee that they will get a commission for selling that wine. I've found most recommendations are not on the quality of wine, but if the employee gets commission. A little secret Spec's doesn't want you to know...BEWARE!! We had to rely on Spec's for years, they had us captive buying up the competition and "fixing" prices. Fortunately Total Wine came to Houston and now they're keeping Spec's honest. Now they will match Total Wine's prices, BUT you have to ask, they don't post it or make it know. Regardless, TW offers 10% off when buy 6 bottles of any mixture of wines. Spec's only gives a discount when you buy 12 bottles of the same product; you can't mix!!!

Yelp
Anytime I'm able to make it to this location because I'm in the area I enjoy stopping in. The staff is always very helpful and welcoming no matter what time I end up stopping in. Tonight especially though I realized that almost any time I make it in it is near closing time and there is always a gentleman who is properly and respectfully taking down the flag that flies outside of the store be folded and taken inside. It is awesome to see tradition and honor given to how the flag is taken down and that is even taken down at all. I come from a military family and friend circle. So to say the least seeing Anthony who is the one I normally see take down the flag most times that I am there warmed my heart. I'm an age where it almost seems as if there is no respect or acknowledgment of what used to be expected and a daily occurrence is now rarely practiced or acknowledged at all. Thank you Anthony for just being who you are and a shining example of a human!

Yelp
I love this place. The selection is so great and the people are so helpful. I know I can come in here and find quality wine or alcohol. A lot of times I find really great stuff on special! The parking lot is usually full right in front of the door so it's likely you will have to park on the side. But you will be in and out quickly!

Yelp
I live a few blocks from this specs so I'm there quite a bit. It may have contributed to my budding alcoholism :D. But seriously, there's is no place with a better selection than specs. The place appears to be over staffed most of the time which to me shows that they are serious about taking care of the customer. I've yet to have an encounter with staff that wasn't friendly and helpful. They also have a well stocked deli where you can get a great hot sandwich or quick premise lunch at a reasonable price. Some have mentioned the presence of certain people talking or harassing outside of the building. Yes those people do exist... it is only a few blocks from the infamous downtown greyhound station. Specs does have security staff but it's best to park in the smaller lot near the door if you are concerned about that.

Yelp
We visited Spec's today to pick up a few new favorites from our recent trip to Scotland. My husband and I absolutely love that Spec's has a number of wines, spirits and mixers we've discovered abroad. When we visited today we were lucky enough to be assisted by Courvoiseir. He was extremely knowledge and friendly. He had wonderful recommendations and looked after us well. We'll be sure to seek him out the next time we are at this location!

Yelp
This is the flagship. . This has everything you could need without the hyper mart vibe. The customer service was disappointing. The clerks seemed to cluster together and talk. I lucked into a management team member who helped me get everything sorted.. The selection is good. And you will spend as much in food and hard to find items as you. Will in liquor. Some service and it would be brilliant

Yelp
This place is a liquor palace. Every so often they'll have celebrities that have a liquor or wine sign autographs. I've seen Stevie J, Nicole Murphy, and Bethenny Frankel. And I'm sure there are plenty of others. The place is huge. So when you walk in there's a spot where you can get your baked goods. Right behind that is a mini grocery store where you can get your cheese, meats and whatever you need for your charcuterie trays. There's a place where you can purchase cooked food for lunch like burgers and fries as well and a seating area upfront. So if you're shopping and you brought a friend along just to help out. You can buy them a burger. Have them sit up front and eat. And by the time you check out they're finished eating and right there to help you load the car. Lol Okay so each aisle has a name. For example if you need vodka, the aisle is called Martini Way or street or drive. But you get what I'm saying. Lol. It's cute. And if you can't find your stuff there's always plenty of staff to help. And I mean PLENTY of staff. It's almost like they're over staffed at times, but it makes it a even better shopping experience. There's plenty of parking available. Im telling y'all. I LOVE this place.

Yelp
Do not order at Spec's online for someone else to pickup. I ordered a bottle of bourbon for my son in another city, the form requires you to list a date and TIME when it will be picked up, having no idea when would be convenient I just picked the next time slot. This morning I get a text the order is canceled because it wasn't licked up on the hour. Just how do I determine when it will convenient for someone else to pick it up. I called to complain, they said it was to conserve space in the store, yeah right, like there are so many orders it is busting out the sides. Go to Total Wine, professional organization.
