My husband brought me to Spezia for my birthday this year, and I hadn't been here since I was in high school! While it's a bit old school, it is still a pretty great restaurant with wonderful service and food.
It's pretty dim inside, with a few fake candles to light the tables (though ours was burnt out). I feel like the dimness is a trademark of a lot of classic steakhouses and restaurants in Omaha, though.
Our server was Rebecca, and she was fabulous, always making sure our drinks were full and our questions were answered/recommendations were given. She first brought out the warm bread rolls and balsamic/oil/parmesan mixture too, also keeping that refreshed because we loved it so much.
We started with the Artichoke Crab Dip app, and it was so flavorful and delicious, with little burnt edges and soft toast points to scoop it up/eat it with. Yum!
My husband and I also shared the Caesar Salad to start, and it was fresh lettuce, but didn't have a lot of Caesar dressing (but did have a lot of cheese, which we liked!)
I had the Beef Burgundy for my entree, as I remembered liking that from years ago. The beef bits were a little larger than I remember, but the mushroom cream burgundy sauce was to die for, so cutting my beef bits up was not a huge issue for me. This does have a LOT of mushrooms in it, though, just FYI! I don't usually like mushrooms, but these blended right into the sauce so I didn't mind them.
My hubby ordered off the seasonal menu and chose the Peach Chicken, which came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. It sounded like an odd combination when just reading the name, but it really worked and was super tasty! The chicken was perfectly cooked and there was a ton of peaches and peach glaze. So a nice salty, savory, and sweet combo.
Since it was my birthday, we had to order some desserts and we chose the Tiramisu for me and the Bananas Foster Cheesecake for my husband.
Rachel brought my tiramisu out with a candle on it as a little birthday surprise, which was so nice. She also very thoughtfully packaged up half of it for me to take home, because it was a huge piece and we had one more dessert coming.
The Bananas Foster Cheesecake was supremely rich and decadent, but so heavenly with the banana flavor and the cream cheese paired with the fieriness from the flambé aspect. You can't go wrong with either of these desserts.
While it's a little old fashioned, as I said previously, it still has great quality in terms of the service and food.
I'd recommend Spezia for your next business dinner or date night/event, if you're a fan of classic style Italian dishes and low lighting.
