"We’ve made the difficult decision not to re-open Spiaggia and Café Spiaggia. We were very much looking forward to welcoming back our family and guests. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in our efforts to restructure our lease, which was necessary to reflect the realities of operating a restaurant in an office building, post-pandemic. It’s been an incredible journey, and we are beyond proud of, and grateful for, 37 remarkable years. From the moment we envisioned the restaurants, our passion has been to elevate fine dining Italian cuisine. The endless number of special occasions, the most passionate staff and the amazing talent still delighting guests around the country, will remind us that Spiaggia and Café Spiaggia will live forever."
"Levy, now known as the food-service provider for venues including Wrigley Field, Guaranteed Rate Field, and United Center, the company’s originated in 1978 with D.B. Kaplan’s Delicatessen at Water Tower Place. They also owned Spiaggia, the acclaimed downtown Italian restaurant with chef Tony Mantuano." - Naomi Waxman
"Whether you're talking about the Obamas' date-night fave Spiaggia or Polish-sausage subs the length of your arm."
"Spiaggia — the standard for Italian dining in Chicago over the last 37 years — won’t reopen, ownership says they’re permanently closed." - Ashok Selvam
"Cafe Spiaggia, the more casual sister spot of the acclaimed downtown Italian restaurant, offers several vegetarian selections on its a la carte menu. These include a beet salad (maple mascarpone, cherries, farro) and orecchiette (broccoli pesto, romanesco, basil, parmigiano reggiano, pine nuts, chili flake). Wines and desserts are also available. Dishes are available for pickup via Tock or delivery through DoorDash." - Naomi Waxman, Ashok Selvam
"When it comes to a fancy Italian meal, no place does it better than Spiaggia. This upscale spot in Streeterville has been around for a long time - like patterned-carpeting-in-the-dining-room long. It’s gone through a lot of changes in the past 35 years (thankfully including a renovation), but one thing hasn’t - the fantastic food. This is definitely a special occasion place (it’s expensive - the eight-course tasting is $155 and there’s an $80 truffle gnocchi on the a la carte menu). This is an ideal place for a celebration, or when you have an overwhelming urge to eat some very good saffron risotto." - Adrian Kane
