Where to Eat Indo Chinese Food in London | Eater London

"One of the most unlikely hotel restaurants in the country, Spice ‘n’ Ice is attached to the South Park Hotel in Croydon and doubles up as a neon function room for large groups. Hakka fried chicken takes the Desi-Chinese flavour profile of spicy, sweet and salty and applies it to battered chicken: a deadly combination. Fish and seafood are also done particularly well: chow chu calamari showcases good frying technique, with a dusting of salt and chilli while Hakka chong yee is Bengali pomfret served with Cantonese style options of black bean sauce, garlic and chilli or ginger and wine. The other half of the menu is Indian with decent curries and biryanis: diners are recommended to try Just Eat’s novel advice and mix them to create something new." - Jonathan Nunn

Despite Reports, Indo-Chinese Food in London Is Not New | Eater London

"Highlighted as a Croydon representative of Desi‑Chinese cooking, this venue is grouped with longstanding immigrant‑community restaurants offering Manchurian, chilli paneer and similar plates that showcase an established Indo‑Chinese cuisine rather than a trendy mash‑up." - Jonathan Nunn

I'm sorry to report that the food here was DISGUSTING. We ordered 4 dishes, all of which taste of decay and nothingness. There are some good places in the area. This isn't one of them. Do not order.

We went on a weekday, so I’m sure the vibe will be different at the weekend. We were the only ones there for a good 30-40 mins (7.15pm on a Thursday), but a few more people came in afterwards. Don’t let it deter you though - the food was phenomenal & the service was on point. The food is some of the best indo-chinese I’ve had!

The food was tasty. Just one thing about that made us feed bad. We ordered mango lassi. We tasted and felt the taste was not balanced and asked the waiter to add more mango pulp and adjust. The jug was taken..he asked if we wanted to return the lassi we poured in the glass too. We said No. One of the staff too the jug to a room and got back the same jug. ( may be a spoon of pulp was added). There was nothing different. We did not say anything. With such amazing food and taste one small thing like this leaves a bad memory. I hope they take care. But overall the food was all great.

What used to be a favourite restaurant in South Croydon is now no longer worth it. Unsure if it is a change in staff or the quality is not checked before coming out of the kitchen. It used to be a go to place for Roomali roti. This time the roti was made of Maida instead of Atta and wasn’t fresh. The manchow soup was also very disappointing. I am going to stop now as I usually don’t review when the food is bad. Unfortunately, never again.

Spice N Ice is a good restaurant serving indo-chinese food. We had a good meal comprising of starters including mixed grilled platter (lamb chops, chicken tikka, shish kebab, fish tikka), tai pai prawns, chow chu calamari, chicken lollipops, garlic chilli mogo. Comparisons can be drawn with the Imperial Restaurant on the Purley Way, both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Visited twice - for dinner and a birthday party, private room hire. I wasn't too impressed when I went for dinner. Slightly overpriced. The chicken mahkani was very mild and creamy, the lamb chops were good. But the sizzling prawn noodles were overcooked, chewy and didn't taste very fresh. We only had 1 bite and mentioned to the staff that we didn't like it, but nothing was done about it. Mocktail Pina colada was also more cream than pinapple. The sauces that came with the popadom were extremely watery and tasted like nothing I have ever tried before!! Looked like it had been diluted down! The food as the birthday party was better. The curries were much better than what I had ordered previously. They sorted out the sauces. Buffet selection, all the dishes were very good. Overall the Indian menu seems to be better than the Chinese menu. And the quality of the food can be variable depending on the day. The car parking is small, prob 6 cars max at a tight squeeze. Food is halal.

These people are evil. It was pouring it down with rain at 7PM last night whilst I and two of my friends were on the way home from school (all the way in north london!) and we was tired and wet so stepped into the building. A worker/owner I dont know her role looked at us and screwed her face up and told us we need to get out. I explained it was raining and even offered to buy food and she just kept telling us we need to get out. So we did. Around 10 minutes later still waiting for the bus I came on my period and went to ask to use the toilet she told me no im not allowed and told me they didnt have toilets? I repeated that I was on my period and begged to use the toilets and she just was telling me to get out. Im a child who was soaking wet and came on her period, this is disgusting?

This is the real Indo Chinese cooking with the generous amount of ginger and garlic and thick cornflour gravies in everything. Great place for vegetarians. The vegetable tempura was excellent, light, flavourful and not oily. I wouldn't recommend the cheese and peanuts, that tastes more like cubes of amul cheese inserted in masala peanuts. The north Indian food like daal and paneer is alright, although we found it too hot, ended up eating it more like pickle than the main dish. Stick with the Chinese food items on the menu, they are really satisfying. The ambience is a little dingy, designed more like a party hall and we are not big on the colourful neon lighting. Maybe small spotlights on tables could fix that.

Yelp
I really like this place. Their food is unique and not like any other fusion place I've been too. Probably because it combines both Indian and East-Asian food. At the same time they have a few other menu items which are completely their own creation. All of the entrees are pretty small and if you're really hungry, you'll run up a big fat bill in no time. For us Yanks, this is worse after the conversion of course. The best time to come here is A, when you're already about 25-50% full, or B, on someone else's dime. One of the chicken dishes there is really good- my family and I have dubbed it the atomic Chicken because it's served in a spicy bright green sauce that makes it look radioactive. We usually end up getting at least 2 or 3 orders of this. Their cashew chicken is also really good, but again small. There is almost never a wait here (maybe because of the $$$) which is cool. Sometimes the place is completely empty. The seating and tables are really comfortable, with lots of leg/elbow room. The attitude of the waiters is a bit indifferent/ timid. I don't understand why. They are hard to hear, don't speak much, and are very quick to agree with you as if trying to just get to the end of your interaction with them. There is no handicap access for the stairs. Overall, I like this place a lot and will definitely come back for the food. It's best to go in a group because then you can try a lot of different things.

Yelp
Be very careful if you are a vegetarian! You may find a piece of Chicken in your vegetarian dish! And the manager will not understand that vegetarians don't eat chicken. The manager is very rude and will not make any changes to the dishes.
