Google
Absolutely wonderful food. The flavors are bright and clean, the portions are very generous, and the service is kind and efficient. We had the pork buns, special green beans, traditional kung pao chicken, and pan fried noodles with pork. All were delicious.

Had dinner and truly enjoyed our meal. Although the dining area was a bit dark, need more lighting please. It did not take a way the food experience and the items we ordered were spot on. Crispy spicy chicken was 🔥, the mushroom soup was tasty and their fried rice was as expected. Parking was available within the restaurant lot.

The food was excellent. The drama wasn’t. We went for a nice early lunch and we ordered barbecue pork bun, shumai, pan, fried egg noodle, and braised beef flank and tendon with potato. The pork bun was really nice. It’s small but delicious. The shumai tasted the same as it does everywhere. The beef flank tendon was a larger portion than expected. The meat was tender and delicious. The potatoes were my favorite part. It comes with a rather small bowl of rice though, and they charge three dollars for a side of rice which I thought was quite ridiculous. The winner was the pan fried noodles. We have been to many many many Asian restaurants since we moved Oregon and have not once found pan fried noodles like this. This is our favorite kind of fried noodles and they were exactly as we hoped. They were crispy, and the gravy was light and perfect. The vegetables were not overcooked and the whole dish looked wonderful. The service was good. A staff member did rush into the dining room to loudly tell everyone that she had just quit. The other staff definitely tried to quiet her scene but you could hear them talking and laughing about it loudly in the kitchen. Ick. I would probably eat here again. The food is good. The prices are a little higher than you would expect for the quality of food, but it was definitely a good meal.

Google
Food was good but won’t return. Service was okay, everyone was nice. We came after friends recommended and everything was fine just didn’t think it was any different than other similar restaurants.

Was craving pork buns and this place hit the spot. Chinese donuts and congee were yummy. Chili sauce had nice flavor and was good with turnip cake. Shu mai was thick

Google
Took the family here for dim sum as brunch. We were seated immediately. Nice quiet setting and plenty of parking spots in the parking lot. We ordered several dimsum dishes and hot tea. The tea charges are a bit outrageous and the dim sum dishes are spendy but we are in Eugene and for that reason, they can monopolize on the situation where good dim sums are hard to find. Flavor wise, it is actually very good and we enjoyed the variety that they offer. We will have to go back and try their lunch dishes next time.

I am here on a Sunday morning, so I don't know how busy this place can get. But my wife and I are really enjoying our first of many experiences here. The server might be an owner and had so much knowledge about the food. I love curry and stir-frys, but she talked me into the pork belly. This food is delicious and high quality. I recommend coming to this restaurant.

Google
I stopped in here when visiting Eugene last October and I am so glad I did. I tried several kinds of their dim sum options my first visit and their Mongolian beef. I stopped back by in December and got their roast pork again since it was so good the 1st visit. I tried the Chinese broccoli dish that time and it did not disappoint in the least. The portions were generous. And their chili oil was delicious. The service was excellent. Look forward to returning when I pass through town.

Yelp
I like Spice N' Steam quite a lot. I like downtown restaurants best, so part of it is location (perfectly walkable from anywhere in the city, but also lots of parking). I've come to know the staff a little, and while they sometimes feel a bit stretched, they always answer my questions and make good recommendations when I ask. At first I had to dig around the menu to find what worked for me. The menu is really big. I avoid the standard American Chinese restaurant fare: General T'sau's chicken, Kung Pao shrimp etc. I try to pick the more obscure vegetable items, and personal favorites like Salt and pepper tofu (always exceptionally hot and crispy). Truthfully, I think Spice and Steam is best when you're in a group. Family style! Order three plates of vegetables (the baby bok choi, the green beans, chose a plate of fried rice) and two entrees, maybe three (Esp if you ask them for their recommendation. Tell them you're brave...). Chicken feet are a bit too much for me, but whatever floats your boat. I live alone and often stop in to pick up a to-go serving of their Won-Ton soup, which is surprisingly plentiful-- pork, chicken, shrimp, lots of vegetables and some top grade dumplings. You get enough for dinner, and lunch the next day. I have no complaints. The ambiance could be warmer and the floor sometimes seems understaffed in a rush. But that shouldn't deter you.

Yelp
This has been "our spot" ever since we nervously dropped off our son at UO fall 2020. We dined there every time we visited and brought our son and his friends. We especially enjoyed XO noodles, soup dumplings, braised pirk, and tripe! During one of our visits, we noticed that they were building out the back area. My husband spoke with John and asked if we can host our son's graduation party in that area if it's done by then. Fortunately for us, work was completed late last year. So, on June 17, we hosted lunch for 40 people. Things were a bit hectic and we failed to take pictures of the food. Suffice it to say, everyone raved about the food, the service, and the space! Big thanks to John and the staff for being our spot, from beginning to end of our son's UO experience! SCO!

Yelp
I have family in town who wanted to eat Dim Sum and we found Spice 'n' Steam. The menu was quite large with a lot of variety. We ordered several dishes that were all absolutely delicious! The customer service was amazing and our waitress was extremely attentive. This restaurant has a romantic feel. Low lighting and red lanterns on the ceiling. A great place to go for any occasion or gathering. We enjoyed ourselves and will be back to support this business.

Yelp
I used to love this place and thought it was one of the better Chinese food places in town. Lately, it has gone down hill. The prices have gone way up, and the quality has gone way down. The flavor is more bland and not as good. My family and I like the orange chicken, chow mein, egg rolls. The order we got this weekend was not good at all and so expensive. So disappointed. The mongolian beef was mostly all onions and barely any beef which is ridiculous seeing that they charge $20 for the plate. We won't be going here again.

Yelp
I was looking on Yelp for a place to have lunch in Eugene and Spice N Steam popped up. I had looked for dim sum places there before and finding this was a happy surprise. We got there as it opened. We ordered their hot tea which was a delightful blend of green tea, jasmine, oolong and chrysanthemum!! This is definitely a reorder. We ordered our standard siu mai, har gow, and fried shrimp balls. They were all super delicious!! The siu mai were shrimp and mushroom. I've never had that combo, were a very generous size and amazing. Har gow were, also, delicious. Interestingly, there wasn't a sauce except the soy on the table. They were good and really didn't need one-though, would be nice to have. The fried shrimp balls were decadent. I love the fried wonton crispy on them and inside was succulent shrimp. They had an interesting red dipping sauce. I wasn't a fan but others liked it. I miss the carts being pushed around the dining room and seeing all the delicious options but understand there aren't enough customers for that at one time. The food is excellent and they earned their Best of Eugene award. I would definitely go back and do recommend them. I

Yelp
This is my favorite date night spot! We each choose a dim sum order and split an entree and there's plenty of food. I LOVE the shrimp & chive dumplings. The service is excellent, very friendly and prompt, and the food is always fresh. Highly recommend!

Dennis F.

Yelp
Very food on the expensive side but worth it, maje sure to check them out, better if you dine in verses carryout, you'll get the full experience.

Kat P.

Yelp
I believe this is the only place in Eugene that offers dim sum, delicious! Haven't tried their other offerings. Cute ambiance and great service.

Wells L.

Yelp
TL:DR - A super solid spot for a "smaller" town. Would be a very solid option in any large city. Place was pretty empty for lunch on Sunday, but dim sum does seem available at any time during the week. Shrimp har gow, shu mai, radish cakes, and salt and pepper tofu were all good. The big stand out was the XOXO sauce rice noodles. Perfectly chewy with a great slight crust of xoxo sauce on the outside. Friendly service, slightly below average dim sum prices compared to most cities. ---------------------------------------------------------- I don't get the low rating for this place. Read this is one of the only dim sum spots in town so we decided to give it a shot and were not disappointed. I will say coming from larger cities, walking in on a Sunday for lunch, I was shocked to see this place completely empty. But as far as I can tell, dimsum is not limited to just weekend lunches here. As such, dim sum is just a menu section and not something that is pushed around on carts. We ordered the XOXO Sauce Rice noodles, shrimp har gow (shrimp dumpling), shu mai, radish cakes, and salt and pepper tofu. They were all very solid dishes, nothing you would say "oh, it's good for middle of nowhere." It was legit solid for any city in the US (Chicago, San Fran, etc.) Nothing amazing, but all very very solid. The one dish I was most impressed with was the XOXO Sauce Rice noodles. Super chewy noodles with good flavor, and they stir fried it to perfection where there was the slightest crust of xoxo sauce flavor on the outsides. A great alternative carb that's not rice or even lo mein. Service was on point, friendly and perfect amount of frequency. Prices were about average, if not slightly lower. Most places I expect to pay about $20-$30 a person for dim sum, we did about $50 for two adults and a baby and had some left over for take home. All in all, a super solid spot that Eugene should be very proud of.

Yelp
hands down, this is the best Chinese restaurant that I've been to in all of Eugene to Salem. And the service is amazing, especially for a Chinese restaurant! If you want delicious Chinese food it doesn't matter what you order. It's all good!

Johan A.

Yelp
Went in one weekend 50 minutes before the closing time - the owner was enthusiastic about sitting us down. The food was amazing, and on top of that, the service was extraordinarily quick. The vibe of the restaurant was very homey, and I loved every bit of it!

Cody M.

Yelp
This is my wife and I's favorite Chinese food restaurant In lane county. They have friendly service and a great food selection that isn't your typical Chinese food. I also LOVE the spicy dry rub popcorn chicken it's sooooo good. The vibe here is good it's clean and very modern.

John B.

Yelp
Beware price gouging!!!. This Chinese Restaurant Spice and Steam in Eugene, Or. is ripping its customers off by engaging in "Price Gouging." I went there last week and purchased 2 dishes they were very expensive but I bought them anyway. I went back there a week after, yesterday on 10/8/24 and purchased the exact same 2 items (dishes) and they charged me $3.00 more for each item that's an increase of $6.00 and the portions were even less. Please stay away from this restaurant they are dishonest and unscrupulous. I will never support them again or refer them to anyone again. They have just lost a good regular customer.

M H.

Yelp
Got takeout from here and was very impressed with the quality of the dim sum to go. I ordered the soup dumplings, shumai, and egg flour (egg drop) soup. Everything was warm (obviously not as hot since I didn't eat it there) and tasty! My favorite was the soup dumplings but the shumai and soup were also super flavorful. I will definitely try this again but eat at the restaurant to get it as fresh as possible.

Matthew F.

Yelp
If you want some very authentic Asian food, this is the place to go take a date or take your family. Either way they will be more than happy with the quality of the food and the quality of the service.

Steve P.

Yelp
We heard about Spice n Steam from some friends who really liked it. I looked at the Yelp reviews and was impressed with what I saw. Having lived within walking distance of China Town for a couple years in San Francisco, I was eager to try out what looked like very authentic cuisine. Our group met there at opening time and the atmosphere was very warm and inviting. We were seated and drinks arrived promptly. At each place setting was a small dish with a paper napkin, a fork and genuine engraved chopsticks, not the cheap disposable kind. The term Dimsum really took me back as I hadn't seen or heard the word in decades. Yep, small bamboo baskets or plates with various assortments of delicious bites, just what the appetite ordered! The Vegetable Spring Rolls were a big hit! Very crispy delicate pastry with steaming hot and very fresh veggies that were so fresh they were still crisp, completely vegan and completely acceptable for this carnivore. Pan Fried Pot Stickers were very flavorful. Perfectly seasoned with a hint of soy, the ground pork sausage was very fine and the flavor was not overbearing. The noodle had a very light crisp and held together well. The Sweet and Sour Chicken was perfect with bite size cuts of chicken in a crispy coating with an aromatic glaze of sweet and sour sauce. Bits of sliced peppers and onions rounded out this dish and again, the veggies were so fresh that they still had their crispness. The Thin Egg Noodle with Chicken was also very good. I really liked how the flavor was rich yet hard to define and there was a generous amount of chicken. On one hand it was almost like a beef broth flavor, but then again, more of a light soy.. hard for me to distinguish but it was very light and tasty. The Baked Bbq Pork Buns were also very unique. These unassuming little rolls will knock your socks off! They were like small hot Hawaiian Sweet Bread rolls. When you bite into one, the steam and aroma of barbecue comes out and there is some very flavorful pulled pork inside. The meal and the service were excellent, but the check was a bit of a tangled web. We did ask for a split check for two couples. We were told 'no problem, I'll do it at the register'. Well the check was combined on the ticket and left us scratching our heads trying to figure it out. You see, the check was very confusing and mostly in Cantonese! There was an English translation as well, but after some back and forth with the waiter over trying to figure who owes what, we finally got it sorted out. That was the only bump in an otherwise fantastic meal of authentic Chinese food.

James T.

Yelp
With the Chinese options available in Eugene, this spot is one of the only for dim sum. With that said, it's no Mama Lu's or Din Tai Fung. Take what we can get here, and hopefully be happy! Service was phenomenal. While I'll definitely come back, this isn't a first date type of spot.

Michelle O.

Yelp
Our office was craving some Dim Sum and decided to try Spice n Steam. We enjoyed an assortment of dishes, Shumai, Chicken buns (my fav), Chaozhou dumplings, seaweed salad (super fresh), chicken and beef dumpling. So many choices and all so fresh we enjoyed everything we ordered. This was our first time and 4 of us enjoyed our meal. We ordered a lot and enjoyed sharing family style. Honestly it was my first time having Dim Sum and I truly enjoyed it. Most definitely will be back! We were able to get right in for lunch around 11 and soon after the lunch crowd started coming in. The menu has a lot of choices and honestly I can wait to try more dishes.

Susanne G.

Yelp
Food: the appetizer spare rib(lets) were nothing but fat. Used to be so good. BBQ pork was 'way smaller than it used to be & very dry, even with honey poured all over, that tells me it was overcooked. Used to be terrific. Service and ambience were great as usual, so this review is only on the food. opinion: if the food isn't great, nothing else matters. I have been eating here since they opened.

Taylor B.

Yelp
This was really disappointing unfortunately. I'd been looking forward to going here for awhile, but it did not deliver. Firstly, the service was very slow, which I usually don't mind at all, but the place was dead. Also the ambiance was really off-putting. I felt like the decor needed a lot of updating. And as for the most important part, the food, it was all really lacking in flavor. Everything we ordered was really bland. I also felt that it was pretty expensive for the portions and quality. I don't think we'll be back sadly.

Liz L.

Yelp
Omgggg. I'm sitting in my hotel room with a full belly and a happy heart. I cannot hype this place up enough. I moved to the PNW. Work has me traveling all over and I happen to be in Eugene this week. I haven't found that many good Asian spots north of Portland so I opted for it tonight. I ordered braised pork (served with cabbage). It was so delicious. Via the DoorDash app you can extra protein and extra spicy, so I did cuz I was starving and was ready to grub. Finally a restaurant that makes spicy food, not just say spicy and have it be non existent. At one point I unattractively sneezed 4 times in a row and had to blow my nose twice. LOL. It's been years since I've had legit spicy food. The hotter the better in my book. I would absolutely order again and would recommend. My only disclaimer is for folks who have sensitivities: it is topped with a ton of chilis, minced garlic and it absolutely has MSG. I don't prefer eating MSG. But I don't care when the food tastes this good. Lol Again, would recommend.

Louisa S.

Yelp
Great food and friendly staff. Very fresh dim sum reasonably priced. Honestly the best in the area. Loved the Shu Mai and Pork belly!!! I'll be back for more!

Brandon S.

Yelp
Spice and Steam offers a delightful selection of dim sum. The shumai and spare ribs are wonderfully savory and some of the best I've had. Although I've tried a few of their signature dishes (a few I wasn't a fan of), the twice-cooked pork belly leaves a lasting impression.

Brock B.

Yelp
We moved here from the San Francisco Bay Area in 2018 where there is a wealth of excellent Asian style restaurants. Our search for excellent Chinese took time, patience and persistence but, we feel we have found our Chinese place here. The food has been consistently good and the service very efficient. We have now eaten here probably a half dozen times and it's absolutely our go to place for Chinese both eating at the restaurant and takeout. The restaurant inside a the authentic feel of a Chinese restaurant. Try it. I think you'll like it.

Erika K.

Yelp
We are visiting Eugene for the first time and happened to choose this restaurant not far from our hotel, and were very pleased with the meal. The Three Cups Sauce Chicken and the Braised Pork were especially delicious. We found the service to be solid, prompt, and courteous.

Kennedy R.

Yelp
My boyfriend and i LOVE THIS PLACE! The food is authentic and it's consistent. This is our favorite place to go to in Eugene! 10/10! The service is fast and our server is very attentive!

Jane S.

Yelp
I don't think I've ever had such poor quality food. We ordered green beans and had tofu added. The beans were overcooked, limp and tasteless; the tofu, mounds of mush--never had tofu prepared so poorly. We also ordered lettuce wraps, and while the "best" of the three dishes we ordered, it was largely flavorless, with salty and a bit of ginger being the predominant tastes. The orange chicken was also flavorless. Will absolutely never go back!

Lobelia T.

Yelp
So glad this was open on December 25. I met up with a gathering of friends, and we passed around dumplings and appetizers. I had a nice cup of Jasmine tea. And I like the decor.

Kathy L.

Yelp
SOLID 3.5 stars for the dim sum. Wandering around downtown Eugene I came across this Chinese restaurant serving dim sum. This was quiet a surprise offering of dim sum. The Asian food scene seems to be non-existent in the area--coming from the SF Bay Area, let alone a dim sum restaurant, so I had to take a chance. The interior was a bit dated and they were streaming a medley from the Phil Collins library. We got there after the lunch rush (if there is such a thing during the summer break) and we seated immediately. There were a few occupied tables, one was a large table of 8 and I also overheard them speaking Cantonese. We were handed menus and I glanced at the dim sum offerings--all dishes start at $5.95...expensive by SF standards, but to be expected here in Eugene. We ordered the har-gow (shrimp dumplings), XLB (xiao long baos), steamed chicken feet, steamed spareribs and deep fried sweet rice dumplings. I initially ordered everything in Chinese, but our server didn't seem to know what I was saying, so I just pointed and she repeated in English. Oh well.... I think the dim sum is made to order as the dishes took about 6-10 minutes before it was served, particularly the 2 steamed dumpling dishes and all of our dishes came out together in individual bamboo steamers (the deep fried dumplings were ordered later into our meal). The shrimp dumplings were nice--the doughy wrapper was thin & translucent; the shrimp clearly visible--good ratio of rice flour to shrimp. The rice flour thickness should not over power the shrimp. The XLB was also delicious and soupy at the first bite. I particularly enjoyed the chicken feet, the meat came off the bone nicely. I wished though there were jalapeños in the sauce for added spiciness and a little more black bean flavor. As for the spareribs, the pieces were very meaty--it could have used more black bean flavor, but it was still a good dish. The deep fried dumpling was a little disappointing...it wasn't undercooked, but the sweet rice dough was really gooey...it probably could have been in the fryer a bit longer...however, the meat, sauce, cilantro filling was perfectly seasoned & juicy. Overall, it was an enjoyable dim sum lunch and reasonable ($32 for 5 dishes for 2, excluding tip). Price point for dim sum, not bad by SF standards.

Autumn D.

Yelp
I got the Peking duck which was divine and so rich and fatty. Plus the Shumai which was full of flavors. And the soup dumplings which were just bursting with flavor. I would give them a shot. Ours were carry out, so i took that into account bc the food had to sit and get cold during the 20 min drive back home. But it was so tasty! Definitely going to try more of their dishes!

John D.

Yelp
Visited last night before a show, it was so good! The owner sat us quickly took our order we were early to the show. Dim sum was excellent AMAZING! Great experience wide rice noodles with pork and sweet and sour orange chicken was perfect and quick and hot. Great job this is the best restaurant in Eugene!

Rachel S.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Eugene/Springfield. The food is great every time I've come here and the staff is very welcoming and friendly

Methyl C.

Yelp
Food is always delicious. We always bring our family here for dinner. Service is also good and attentive to our needs.

Donna Rachel T.

Yelp
Excellent food, even takeaway. Will dine inside the restaurant next time and see how that is!

Jessica F.

Yelp
This restaurant serves a good amount of vegan options and everything we've tried we really liked! They have big tables for groups which is great and their service is always friendly. Definitely worth visiting if you're vegan or vegetarian!

Brent B.

Yelp
The menu has amazing photos and everything we ordered matched those expectations. Dim sum menu is small, but hits the spot. Entree portion sizes are great for sharing!

Nikkole K.

Yelp
Food is sooo good everything I've had on the menu has so much flavor and presented in such a beautiful way.

Kristen N.

Yelp
Our server, and presume an owner, Sunny was delightful! We love dumplings, dim sum and duck and they delivered! The peking duck was off the charts delicious! the skin was super crispy and the duck was cooked perfectly! can't wait to go back!

Charlotte N.

Yelp
Ordered carry out. Soup was different, full of meats. Broth was suspect. Loved the spring rolls. Nice dine in old fashion restaurant.

Mike M.

Yelp
First time eating here, and the good is that I really liked the orange chicken. We also got Mongolian beef, which I was really looking forward to, and it was really bad! It was not the flavor of Mongolian beef I have ever had and it was NOT a good change! It had sort of a tomato based sauce that did not taste anything like lovely savory Mongolian beef with some heat to it! This was bland and totally wrong! I'll probably have to throw it away if I can't doctor it up at home.

Yelp
The food is good and this place has little to no competition. Price wise, this place is over priced for everything on their menu. The dude taking my order was so arrogant with zero sense of customer service - he does not even greet you. And never uttered "thank you" when he takes your money. I will go there once in a while as there is literally no other dim sum place in town. I wish there was some competition so that I can have the options to choose from.

Brandy D.

Yelp
Such a huge, amazing, hard to decide menu! We got the dumpling sampler, the green beans, Mongolian beef and sweet n sour chicken. All great flavors, not too spicy. Must come back to try all different things.

Ezra T.

Yelp
I was really impressed by this place. The food was as legit as you're going to get outside of a Chinatown. I'd be very happy to eat here again.

Ashley O.

Yelp
Let's begin with the fact that they forgot to ring up and send out our entree and we were honestly okay with that. The dim sum here is just okay, it is dry and lacking flavor. I would feel just as content getting the Trader Joe's shumai and bao. Ended up just splitting what was pictured and calling it a night.

Nc D.

Yelp
We love this place and it is out go-to for Chinese food in Eugene. My favorite is their House Special Noodle. My family and friends went here last fall for dinner after a memorial service on the spur of the moment. The place wasccrowded, but they set up a long banquet table for us in their back room. The service for 20 of us was astonishing great. Everyone loved their food.

Erin P.

Yelp
Amazing!!!!! Soup dumplings, shrimp dumplings, steamed pork buns, veggie spring rolls, orange chicken, combo flat rice noodles - all SO GOOD. Every meat in the combo noodles was to die for & truly the best orange chicken ever - nothing like the typical heavily breaded soggy orange chicken I've had in the past. Service was incredible (Cole was great) & everything came out very quickly & steaming hot. 10/10. Really wishing I didn't live in Texas so I could eat here again next week!

tony L.

Yelp
Feel bad and uncomfortable! It's prepared dishes! Everything is weird inside, kitchen is quite, no more waiter service. I just heard prepared food news from YouTube, and it seems like that

Emilee S.

Yelp
So good!!! I love this restaurant. The food is delicious and the menu has so many options. Portions are huge. The atmosphere is very cool but they offer take out, too!

Terrie T.

Yelp
I'm gluten free, before I sat down at a table with a large group I was meeting up with, I made sure by asking if there was any gluten free options. Two men said, "yes, we can make most everything gluten free except a few items that are fried in wheat batter in advance." Once I sat, I viewed the menu. I really like entrées that resemble Pad Thai or Kung Pao with rice with shrimp as the protein. I chose something close to that but was told I couldn't because they could not make gluten free. Our male waitress said I could order vegan option and add shrimp so I did. I was charged $9 for the shrimp. Because I was with a large group I had to pay the customary 18% gratitude. MY BILL WAS $34.16 FOR JUST ME! OUCH! I can eat elsewhere for 2! Asian is tops for me. I am looking at my receipts, yes, I save as I budget. The price including the shrimp and the tip below are a few that I eat at frequently that I'd give a 4 to 5 star rating: Ta Ra Rin Thai Cuisine $20 Ubon Thai $15 Kim Asian Cuisine $19 Marco Polo in Salem $19 ~ Marco Polo is my favorite. They have a gluten-free menu and put gluten-free food on round plates, whereas gluten foods they put on square plates. I usually get a pot of jasmine tea which comes with 2 1/2 cups for $3.
