"True to its name, Sichuan-style Spice Spirit offers many dishes loaded with fiery chilis, including spicy bullfrog (a delicacy) and Wushan grilled fish, which may be ordered “hot and spicy” or “numbing spicy.” Other specialties include cumin lamb, Beijing roast duck, duck soup (no, the Marx Brothers are not involved), and an entire section devoted to skewers of barbecued lamb, pork ribs, chicken gizzards, fish cakes, squid, and more." - Nikki Buchanan

Google
This restaurant has the single best noodle dish that I have ever tried: the lamb stew noodles with soup. This restaurant may be my favorite in the valley because of this one meal. Thank you for the delicious food!

Aakanksha Smriti

Google
Tomato and egg noodles, mapo tofu, chonqing cold noodles, spicy oil bian biang noodles, chive pockets were all amazing. Good service despite being understaffed.

Google
The wait staff were very attentive and the food was amazing! Just a heads up the spicy dishes are no joke so just be aware of that but I got the spicy beef and tofu soup and the egg drop soup. Both blew me away. On top of that the portions are huge for the price so definitely economical too!

Google
The restaurant specialized in Szechuan cuisine. The restaurant is very spacious. I would recommend you to try beef slice in golden soup. It was the first time I tried it and I was very impressed. It was a great combination of spicy, sour, and savory. Very flavorful. I personally didn’t like crispy spicy fried chicken as it was not very crispy and spicy.

Google
Absolutely a hidden gem nestled in the city of Mesa. We love the warm and inviting ambiance inside the restaurant. The menu is also elegantly and beautifully designed (Well done guys). We are so surprised that they actually serve a diverse selection of authentic Chinese cuisine, I truly mean real authentic Chinese food (Spicy Szechuan, Hunan, Chongqing, Cantonese, and many more). Overall, the passion and dedication that go into every dish are evident to all of us. So, if you are in the area near Phoenix and want to find authentic Chinese cuisine like no other, I highly recommend this restaurant!

Google
It's been a while since I had Chinese food this bad. We ordered 4 dishes and only 1 was actually edible. The corn soup had a strong chlorine smell. The A choy with garlic was actually pretty good. The salt and pepper pork loin was terrible. It was hard as a rock with very little or no pork inside the deep fried breading. 90% of the pieces were all deep fried breading and not meat. Should have been called salt and pepper deep fried breading rather than pork loin.. The BBQ lamb was also terrible. Way too much cumin and way too spicy. All the pieces were too well done and hard to eat and very chewy and gristle. Couldn't finish any dish. The staff was nice and the place was clean. The food, not so great.

Google
The food was so good that we’re giving it a five star even though they forgot one of our dishes and we never got it. What we had though was top notch. The best Xiaolongbao in the valley, and the hunan style spicy beef was amazing.

Adonis Singh

Google
You got some really Chinese food over here. Their fried fish is so good. Their boiled fish is even better. Me personally i feel like this is the best spot if you like real Chinese food. Don’t even get me started on the lamb. Everything is so good just carry a piece of gum with you cuz that garlic can be little heavy sometimes

Yelp
I've been going to **Spice Spirit Chinese Cuisine and Bar** for a while now, and it's one of those places I always find myself coming back to. Honestly, I can't believe I haven't left a review yet - after so many visits, it's about time I recommend this gem to all of you. The food is always on point. The flavors are spot on, and there's a great variety to choose from. The soup dumplings are legit - they're the kind that burst with hot, savory broth when you bite into them. If you love dumplings, you can't miss these. I also recommend the Spicy Water Boiled Fish - it's got just the right amount of kick. Oh, and they make their own noodles! You can even see them hand-pulling them through the kitchen window. The space is another win. It's spacious and not cramped, so it's perfect whether you're there with a group of friends or on a casual date night. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming every time. Plus, there's a big back area that can easily fit about 40 people, so it's a great spot if you're planning a party. The owner is super friendly, and the staff is always on point. They're quick, attentive, and genuinely nice. It's one of those places where they remember you if you've been before, which makes it feel even more special. If you're in the mood for delicious Chinese food in a chill setting, definitely give this place a try. It's become a go-to for me, and I'm sure it'll be for you too.

Yelp
Dude, this place is pure gold. My girlfriend and I stumbled in here yesterday after shopping at H-Mart and it blew both of our minds. We both enjoy spicy food so we ordered the spicy cold noodles as an appetizer and the spicy beef + tofu entree and split both. I didn't realize I had never actually had good Chinese food before until I took the first bite - everything was perfectly balanced and delicious. Perfect amount of spice, aromatic and savory, light but filling... I could go on a rant about how good it is but just trust me on this one if you like real genuine cooking. They also have a non-spicy menu if heat isn't your thing. The staff was friendly and prompt but the restaurant was basically empty except for us - the food is so amazing I'm posting this review in hopes more people will try it. Please do the town a favor and bump this up on your list of places to try because I will be genuinely depressed if they don't stay open for business for a long time!

Yelp
Nice and clean place with friendly and good service. Most importantly they have many choices and all delicious.

Yelp
Great service! Food was outstanding! Very nice inside and clean! Got food for take out but would def come back and dine in!

Yelp
Spicy Spirit is located in a shopping complex next to an Hmart. Sat at the bar which I do not recommend as the stools are the most uncomfortable I have ever sat in. Started off with pork soup dumplings which were frozen store purchased. I watched the cook go into the cooler to grab some and place them in the steamer. Then ordered the sautéed beef tripe and hot and spicy beef slices with tofu. Both were very good but did not have enough spice for me. I was told next visit ask for extra spice. I will admit if something is advertised as spicy it should be then. The staff was very friendly and surprised by what I ordered. My visit was on a Wednesday and not many people were dining I will come back to give it another try in the future.

Yelp
I came here to try out their Peking duck with some of my girlfriends since it was not common to have this dish in other Chinese restaurants. The Peking duck that we had this time was not what we expected. It was dry, small size and very pricy. However, we liked their eggplant a lot. I had come to this place to try out other Chinese dishes before. The dishes were pretty authentic. If you are looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant, this might be a good one to try it out.

Emily M.

Yelp
Hidden gem of authentic Chinese in Mesa. I have been coming here for a couple years and order the Peking duck for celebrations. Love the large tables with Lazy Susan for big groups. The buzz button soup, spicy fried chicken, Peking duck, and pork with pickled radish are must-try's. Service is usually pretty good.

Ren N.

Yelp
Wow, this has to be one of the best authentic spicy Chinese food I've ever had. I usually don't tolerate spicy well, this place however can make dishes that ranges from none to a lot. They're accommodating. Service is excellent. Lots of things to choose from on the menu, and the menu have pictures in case youre confused! We tried the fried spicy fish, eggplant with millenial egg, the traditional ma po tofu, and snow pea leaves with garlic (not on the menu but most places have it if you ask). Our fish dish came out super salty, it's kinda like a salt and pepper kinda turn out, so we asked if it could be redone and the owner took care of it for us at no additional cost. Large tables available for large parties otherwise most seatings are for 4~6, booths available.

Jodi W.

Yelp
Nice welcome. Answered questions and came back with answers that were unknown. Very pleasant staff. Food was great. Seating was comfortable. Temperature and cleanliness was good. Relaxing ambiance. Bar looks like it would be fun for drinks. Simple decor not busy. Open kitchen. Quick service. Hot food.

Yelp
We usually stay away from any Chinese restaurants on Lunar New Year due to the long wait time. We went around 2PM, and the restaurant was pretty empty. As we walked inside, there was a lady in front. We're not sure if she was a hostess since there was no greeting even when we're staring at her. We ordered: Pork belly noodle - there were some dry pieces but tasty and spicy. XLB - must ask for sauce if you want the soy and vinegar. There was nothing special about it. Black pepper beef - it was on the pricey end for just pepper beef. Spicy and delicious. Mapo tofu - very spicy and savory sauce. Normally, I don't eat rice, but after eating this, you'll want to have more rice. They do charge for rice and in a small bowl. As expected, most of the dishes were spicy. Do not expect customer service here. We needed water badly. They have a bunch of workers just standing around.

Daniel ..

Yelp
Serving was really slow, they brought up all dishes altogether which made the dishes NOT fresh and hot anymore. One of the dishes was beef stew with beadcurd stick, the bean curd stick was served dried and only lukewarm which made it very hard to chew and swallow and became tasteless. When we pointed out this issue to the manager that this was dried and should be made soft when served. The manager even had the nerve to say that dried bean curd sticks is the right way to be cooked with beef brisket claypot soup, which was outright lies and of course I know he is lying so I challenged him right away because I know how the bean curd stick should be cooked and served in claypot soup. And then the manager became very rude and impatient and just took our credit card and walked away, as he was apparently embarrassed by caught lying to customer. Overall. Pretty bad experience here.

Yelp
One of our favorite restaurants! We usually order Mapo Tofu, twice cooked pork slices, cumin lamb, hot and crispy chicken bites. The food is always good!

Yelp
I had high expectations for Spice Spirit Chinese Cuisine and Bar. Maybe too high. Upon arrival, the hostess was all business, but she offered no "hello" or smile. Fortunately, the server was different and he was much friendlier and offered fast service. The Shanghai Steam Buns (XLB / Xiao Long Bao) was just ok. The wraps were too thick and the broth was bland. The Orange Chicken was about the same. The chicken was chewy and a bit dry. The sauce was way too sweet. The Soy Sauce Pork Fried Rice was alright. However, it had shards, instead of cubes, of pork. Maybe my pork fried rice experience is limited, but this seemed unusual to me. There was only a hint of soy sauce, even though it was right in the title. Speaking of which, most tables had soy sauce bottles available, but I had to place a request for some. No chopsticks were ever provided, though all other Customers had theirs. SSCC and B was ok, but with so many other Asian options, I doubt I'll be running back.

Yelp
If you are craving spicy, this place is where you want to be! There are also tons of options for non spicy options! Don't be overwhelmed with the menu when you sit down. There are tons of dishes that you can choose from. I would recommend picking some spicy and some nice spicy to try them out. My favorite was the Green Pepper and Eggplants with Century Egg and the Dan Dan Noodles! The eggplant was perfectly made with the century egg and with rice it's a spoonful of flavor. The Dan Dan noodles had the perfect texture in the noodles. It wasn't really spicy so request for it to be spicer if you want a good kick. Hot and Crispy Chicken Bite was delicious!! It's so good that even though the spice was strong I kept picking at it. Definitely must get if you like spicy! Sadly was a little disappointed with the small steamed buns. The meat taste great, but it was lacking the soup. Service was amazing! Friendly staff! We are excited to go back to try other options!

Yelp
Love this spot! Came here once after seeing the Yelp reviews and was intrigued by the "numbing" spice. I have never heard of sichuan pepper before or the style of Chinese it entails but: WOW, so much flavor. I cannot exactly describe the flavor of the oils and seasonings used here; it's just that unique. I can say however that it's not the typical spicy people think of, and that because of the numbing zesty tones it's definitely something you can eat without needing to chug water. You can also order something without spice if you're worried! Including traditional Chinese dishes such as stir fry rice, dumplings, etc. The staff is attentive, and the food comes out pretty quickly! The prices aren't bad for the portion you get. Inside the place is huge, way bigger and pretty upscale looking compared to the outside of the building. In summary my boyfriend and I love coming here and now do so about once a week. Our favorite dishes are the "ma po tofu" it's the one main thing to get for the spicy tingly, the "twice cooked pork" which is delicious pork belly but no numbing flavor, and any of the dumplings are delicious. Overall we highly recommend!! We're hoping to eventually plan ahead by ordering the duck (you have to order the day before for that one) and update the review on that. You must try this place!!

Mark M.

Yelp
Had beef lo mein, grilled cauliflowers w pork, and orange chicken. Orange chicken was overcooked, was fried to the point where certain parts were hard enough to chip a tooth. Flavor was ok. Beef lo mein was just ok. Grilled cauliflower had not been steamed long enough and was still raw. Overall too greasy and not cooked properly.

Daniel L.

Yelp
Got their Peking duck (full portion- need to call 24 hours in advance to reserve) with the duck bones turned into soup. The skin could've been crispier but the meat was delicious and the soup was sooo tasty with a strong duck flavor. Not a strong fatty flavor. Ma po tofu has good flavors and good serving size. We asked for very mild Szechuan spice for our party to try. Cumin lamb - tasty but very salty Kung pao/bao chicken - tasty flavor as well, but also salty Eggplant + century egg - tasty with smoky eggplant flavor. Century egg like this wasn't as strong of a sulfur flavor so I enjoyed it. Pea tip veggies - delicious but oily Total $180 (with tip and tax) for 5 people, still enough leftovers for another half meal. Had a good amount of duck soup to add glass noodles and veggies to.

Andrew L.

Yelp
Awesome food with a nice mala kick and great price! The restaurant is fairly large and can fit a large group, however we only had 4 people so they sat us at a booth instead of a circular table. They served us until they were closed and did not The food itself was made fresh and tasted awesome. Dan Dan noodles was my standout favorite however we also ordered the century egg w/ eggplant, fried pork belly cauliflower, Dan Dan noodles, and Shanghai dumplings and all were great dishes. Only major critical feedback was that the Shanghai dumplings were a bit dry. The soup was mostly evaporated or missing and the skin was drying up. Would definitely come back to try more dishes!

Zack G.

Yelp
They have spice and they have spirit! I went with a group of friends and we had a blast. We ordered a bunch of dishes family style and everything was amazing. We ordered the cumin lamb, red pepper fish fillet, fried eggplant and green beans, pork buns, and mapo tofu. We also had a few shots of this really tasty Chinese liquor that I didn't catch the name of. We are definitely planning to come back in order the duck, but you have to put in the order a day early. The flavor of everything was so good and lingered in my mouth even after the meal was over.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday evening and was quickly seated. Resturant is very large and very roomy seats. Food and service was great. Food came out very fast. I absolutely love szechuan Food and the portions and flavor were pretty spot on. Hot and crispy chicken bite(8/10) This is always a staple item I order at a szechuan place as it has the iconic numbing spice mixed in. They offered bone in which isn't common but it was delicious. The only downside was that they didn't mix the seasoning thoroughly with all the chicken. My first initial few pieces were crispy but lacked the seasoning then I got to the middle of the dish and it was better. Griddle pork intestine (8/10) They gave a great portion of pork intestine and it came with a pot with some burning gel underneath. It helped crisp up a few pieces. Only complaint is that the dry pots I'm used to typically have more variety like potato skin, napa, woodear, etc. This one has some celery and red onions. Flavor was great. Sliced beef and ox tongue(8/10) Flavor was good it was more saucey than I'm use. They gave a large portion of sliced beef but not too many beef tongue. Portion size was very nice. Overall it was a wonderful experience. If I'm ever in the area again I will come again to try some more dishes.

Betty J.

Yelp
I'm surprised I haven't heard about this place till recent. I am a big fan of the food, I think this place is now one of my favorites in Arizona. The spice is so addicting and unique. Everything is very flavorful. The only thing that could be done better is probably the soup dumpling as the skin is too thick and the broth too little. The flavor of the soup dumpling is still good though! The service was also pretty good. I got seated right away and the server was polite :) Also the cleanliness seemed fine to me? The whole place had a generally clean smell idk

Zhong Y.

Yelp
I'm in the odd position of giving a restaurant 4 stars because of odd, non fatal tweaks to dishes that are otherwise well executed. Deep frying potstickers, well those aren't potstickers then, they're crispy gyoza or mandu, but the filling was tasty. Why not just pan fry them. Using chicken breast meat in the kung pao and orange chicken, why not use chicken thigh, which is cheaper and tastier. Piling up the sliced beef and tripe in the fuqi feipian but not mixing it with the mala seasonings, but the quality of the meats were really good. It's weird, it's all weird. Then the cups still carry the brand of Chicago's Lao Sze Chuan, owned by Tony Hu, who was sent to federal prison for tax evasion and money laundering. IDK. Food was tasty. It's just the little things separate it from really being 4 stars, but they're not enough to make it 3.

Yelp
I've been looking for authentic Chinese food for a few years now since I've tried it in China in various provinces. My Chinese friend recommended Spice Spirit and I was so excited to finally find the authentic food in Phoenix! Spice spirit has many excellent vegetarian and vegan dishes. We had mapo tofu and fired eggplant. Tofu is spicy but not too spicy and the spiciness numbs your mouth. It's full of flavor and it's something you've never tasted before if you didn't have Szechuan food in China. Eggplant was very balanced-sweet, spicy and savoury, and cooked perfectly. The service was excellent.

Terry B.

Yelp
I eat here a lot ever since I discovered the Asian District in Mesa. This place has ruined me for Chinese food... in a good way. Lol. I simply can't eat "American " style Chinese any more. Sorry Jade Palace and others. The flavors or everything are so fresh and authentic! Try the Spicy Fish Water Boil. And don't skip the Spicy Egg fried rice. But seriously everything is fantastic. You can't go wrong.

Yuze Z.

Yelp
Most authentic Chinese szechuan cuisine, and roast duck in Phoenix. Definitely worth it if you are fond of spicy food. --from a Chinese.

Justin M.

Yelp
Wow! This place has some amazing Chinese food. Super hip restaurant with great service. Was really impressed by how flavorful and authentic the food here is. Would highly recommend this place for good food.

Alicia W.

Yelp
I've been coming to this restaurant for the past few years with my family whenever I'm in town, and the food is always delicious!! I like that they put in photos for everything on the menu and they also have such a variety of different types of Chinese food. I honestly wasn't really in the mood for Chinese but came anyway because my family wanted to. Although I was thinking I wasn't going to eat much, when the food finally got here everything was so delicious. We had ordered the green pepper and eggplant with century egg, griddle tea tree mushroom and smoked pork, and the numb bomb mix. The green pepper and eggplant with century egg was so delicious and the flavors were just amazing. Normally I don't love century egg but it paired really well with the eggplant. The only thing was that the dish was a little too oily but other than that it was great. I also loved the griddle tea tree mushroom and smoked pork! It was served over a small fire so it was cooking at our table as well. Again, the flavors of the mushrooms and the smoked pork was so scrumptious and I've been craving it since. The last dish we got was the numb bomb mix which had a ton of different foods like seafood, chicken, mushrooms, lotus roots, etc., submerged in a spicy broth. This was great as well and everything was getting super spicy at this point! I can't wait to come back and try some other dishes!

Johnny Y.

Yelp
Honestly this place used to be so good. Not sure what happened, but recently the quality has gone down. The take out portion is small and doesn't include rice when 3 dishes can run you north of $55...

Brian T.

Yelp
Came here for my birthday and almost cried because the food was so good. I've been looking for Chinese like this my whole life, and now I've found it. Service was really friendly as well.

Erik H.

Yelp
Pretty much regulars there. We go once up to 3 times a month. Our daughters love the egg drop soup and orange chicken. I usually get the pork buns (and snag some of the kids food). My wife tries a little of everything and she is the picky one and this is by far her favorite Chinese restaurant. Probably because they seem to be more authentic than other Chinese restaurants we have tried!! Recommend to all my friends!!

Amanda C.

Yelp
Came here for a second time for mid-autumn fest with friends and their customer service was great for our large party of 10!! Since we knew what we were expecting this time, it actually exceeded our expectations...we got peking duck + they used the leftover bones to create a delicious soup for only $9 extra, pepper fried fish, tomato beef stew, an assortment of veggies, and pork belly! Everything was delicious and the whole bill came out to be about $30/pp after tax and tip. We also celebrated a birthday and they gladly gave us disposable plates and utensils for the cake we brought in addition to extra to-go boxes to take cake home. Really appreciated that!

Hils L.

Yelp
Good choice in here. Service is okay. If you love Sichuan food. You can give it a shot.

Sook L.

Yelp
Came for the first time and it was a pleasant experience! Everything was very tasty! Peking duck - seems good quality. Not as fatty and was not too gamy. Some of the rice wraps were too thick though. But it may have been the first few layers that got stuck to each other. The later pieces were fine. Nice bean sauce they made in house. They also asked what we wanted to do with the remaining bone and meats of the duck. Two options available: duck soup with tofu and napa OR stir fry with salt and pepper. We chose the soup and it was very delicious. $9 for the soup. Must have MSG but it's ok lol we enjoyed it. I did think the cut out meats for peking duck was not enough. They could have sliced more meats off the bones but at least we get the rest in the remaining dish. Kung pao chicken was also delicious. Every element was nicely cooked, crunched, and well seasoned. Cumin lamb was MUY SALTY! We could not finish it because of how salty it was! Flavor was good tho. Also ordered the eggplant with century egg dish. It came in a wooden mortar and they mix it when serving. This was one of the best dishes we tried!! Generous amounts of century egg. Service was decent. There was one male chef/owner who greeted us and came back out to check in on us. He was very friendly and kind! There were so many seats and tables once you enter the room. It's totally unexpected from how it looks outside. All these plus 3 portions of rice was about $150 for 5 people with plenty of leftovers. We will be back!

Walter L.

Yelp
I travel from Gilbert to this restaurant as there are few authentic Chinese places in the valley. Coming from Southern California, I've enjoyed excellent Chinese food. Objectively, compared to SoCal options, I'd rate this 3 stars for overall flavor and quality. However, in Phoenix, where good Chinese food is limited, it deserves a 5. In the midst of predominantly bar-type food, it stands out as a 5 for ethnic cuisine in this area. Standouts for me are twice cooked pork, peppered beef and cumin lamb. I usually order a "spicy crispy" dish too - chicken over fish for better protein to batter ratio.

Kevin L.

Yelp
Bottomline is this is an excellent Sichuanese restaurant in the Asian District of Mesa. We tried the usual Sichuan dishes like boiled fish, spicy crispy fish, spicy crispy chicken, twice cooked pork, pork intestines. We also got ourselves some Taiwanese A choy, and some barbecue skewers. The flavor is pretty authentic for everything that we have ordered. Our server was very nice and attentive during our meal. We were seated promptly at a huge booth just for the 3 of us. Overall, I would highly recommend this place if you are into Sichuan cuisine.

Samuel C.

Yelp
Tried it for the first time today! The restaurant has a lot of seating and pretty nice inside. We tried several dishes, such as the steamed pork buns and the Shanghai Small Steamed Buns, numbing chicken with tofu and Dan Dan Noodles. The steamed pork buns were good and something familiar with this pork bun that I've had many times when I was younger. The Shanghai Small Steamed Buns (soup dumplings) were decent, good flavor, but not a lot of soup in these dumplings. Maybe it was ok today since it was over 100 degrees outside but I'm used to soup dumplings that once you pierce the dumplings, a good amount of broth comes out. Then you slurp it up and eat the dumpling. This had a very small amount of broth in them Dan Dan Noodles were decent, good flavor, not spicy at all and overall a good side dish. Nice portion. The Numbing Chicken was not what I was expecting. This was my first time trying it and there isn't any description about it and I thought it was going to be spicy numbing, but this seemed to be more of a soup based dish. The bowl is HUGE and way too much for one person. I hate to say it, but this dish is terrible! The numbing is from Szechuan peppercorn. So the dish isn't spicy, you get the numbing from the peppercorn. But it's such a peppery taste and then it's a very salty aftertaste. I would NOT recommend this dish, there isn't any flavor to it and there so much of it that it just goes to waste. I usually like to try something more than once to really determine if I like it or not, but this dish, I cannot try again. It's literally that bad. The service wasn't anything special. We were seated right away, asked about drinks, then it took someone a while to take our order and then once our food was brought over, never checked on again. Had to wave someone down to get some take out containers as well as my check. If I were to go back, I'd get the buns again but not the Numbing (chicken) dish or the Dan Dan noodles. I'll give something else a try such as Ma Po Tofu.

Charu C.

Yelp
The dry red pepper fried fish is outstanding! Must, must try! The spice kick along with the freshness of cilantro is an amazing combination. Also tried the stir fried eggplant and veggie fried rice which were both really good. Will definitely be coming back for more!

Jacob V.

Yelp
Best Szechuan food in The Valley. My absolute favorite restaurant. We have been several times and sampled their very large menu and have been impressed every time. Cannot recommend enough!

Philip W.

Yelp
Some of the most athentic Chinese food in the East Valley. I stayed in Chandler for one month this past March and found myself coming here once a week. They have all the Schezuan hits that I love to get, like kung pao chicken and boiled fish. They had their own dishes too like the numb bomb mix, which I loved. It doesn't look spicy (the water is clear rather than red) but is craaazy spicy. We're talking mala spicy here, the kind that numbs your mouth. If I had a bigger crew, I would have tried to get their hot pot as well. Also noticed that they have duck on the menu, but you need to preorder that one to get it. Lots of other foods on the menu I didn't mention that I can also tell look delicious. Definitely recommend stopping here for some good Chinese food!

Yelp
Randomly found this place one night and decided to give it a try. The place is big and has comfort booths to sit in. I got really excited when I saw they had Beijing duck. However you have to order this one day in advance... sad. So we had the beef noodle soup which was really good. Broth and noodles both. The spicy fried fish was crispy ans delicious as well. I didn't care much for the xiao long bao. I thought the skin was too thick. Overall good place and will be coming back for the Beijing duck (and yes call in one day ahead).

Yelp
Excellent, authentic chinese dishes. The "numbing spice" is special and I crave it! It totally hit the spot and we will be back!

Yelp
Yup, it's the same chain from China and it is every bit as good! You will find authentic Chinese dishes here that you can't find at other places in Arizona. As the name implies, it is spicy so it's not for the fainthearted. But there's more to Sichuan cooking than scorched taste buds and peppercorn-numbed lips. The cuisine of Sì Chuānlù (四川路), or "Four circuits of rivers," is vastly more complex, invoking foreign cultural influences, cooking techniques, and ingredients. Sichuan food is really about a variety of flavors: spicy, flowery (Sichuan peppercorns), salty, sour, sweet, bitter, smoky.Frequently all of those flavors are combined in one dish. The result is a cuisine with an incredible depth and complexity of flavor, hitting all sense receptors in your mouth, nose, and gastrointestinal system at the same time. The bar area has a quasi-sports vibe with TVs playing games. You'll feel like you're in China with staff who speak Chinese and some of the best food! The DanDanMian is particularly awesome. If you really like spicy, check out the Hunan selections. I WILL BE BACK!

Yelp
I'm not used to eating good Chinese food. Nor am I adventurous when it comes to Asian food. I pretty much get the same dishes everywhere I do. All the dishes I had here were above expectations. Wish they had more options for Asian beer but whatever they had was fine. The food came to our table hot and fresh back to back. We didn't order an appetizer but unfortunately it all came at once along with our entrees. If you enjoy authentic Chinese, definitely a place you MUST visit.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and Spice Spirit serves up authentic Sichuan/Chongqing/Hunan cuisine. My most recent visit did encounter very slow service but, like everyone else, they're short-staffed and had a big party in the private room (not to mention multiple delivery orders). Many diners waited a good 20 minutes for their food to come out but no one complained because they knew it was well worth the wait! If you like spicy Chinese dishes, Spice Spirit is for you. I tried the cold Chongqing Spicy Cold Noodles this time and they are excellent. Despite the name, they are ultimately served in a warm bowl. It has a heady aroma that carries hints of wood and citrus peel, and produces a numbing effect on the mouth. The taste and fragrance are incomparable, and most people succumb quickly to its aromatic charms. You will definitely feel the ma on your lips as you eat these. I strongly recommend them over the Dan Dan Noodles (though those are good, too). I've dined at Spice Spirit for both lunch and dinner and each gets busy. When ASU is in session, it is not uncommon to see many international students in the dining room, which is nice. One nice thing about Spice Spirit is that they have a liquor license and make excellent use of it. From Tsingtao beers imported from China to Japanese sake, there are plenty of "spirits" here. Everything is affordably priced, too. They do have a separate bar area but rarely open it due to the lack of employees, which is a shame.

Yelp
Great foods uniquely flavored is why we keep coming back. But let's talk seating first, shall we? They have booths, tables and half booths. The seats are sturdy enough to comfortably handle wide bodies like mine so come in and relax. We've tried a number of dishes here and have not been disappointed. The Mapo Dobu, Orange Chicken, Egg Flower Soup and Pork with Tofu are a few that should not be missed. The menu has interesting items and we're going to return to try some of those we've never heard of, like whatever is served in a large clay molded bowl.

Yelp
I came here with a party of 7 people and shared a bunch of dishes family style. Parking is easy to find in their lot. At a weekend dinner time, they weren't too busy or crowded. Sze Chuan style WATER BOILED FISH was the one dish I was looking forward to. It was good but could have been spicier. The sauce was red but not spicy at all. The bowl was filled with bean sprouts; I would have liked to see cabbage too. I feel like this is a standard Sze Chuan dish, and they didn't get it quite right. The DAN DAN noodles was on the sweet side, yet tasted strongly of vinegar. We ordered two for our group, but in hindsight one would've been fine. STIR-FRIED BEEF with pepper was good. The beef to pepper ratio was like 1:1. CUMIN LAMB was good too. There was so much cilantro. BEEF WITH BEANCURD was ok. I'm not a fan of beancurd, and the beef was very fatty. CRISPY CHICKEN with peppers could have been spicier. It was just so much pepper that I couldn't enjoy the chicken. Most of the chicken was either batter or fatty parts. Service was ok. I think they charged us an additional fee for hot tea and rice. The rice was served in a large bowl, so it was enough for more than 7 small bowls of rice. If I'm in the area again, I'd rather try something else. I don't think I'd come again (unless there's no other Sze Chuan restaurant).

Yelp
Very authentic and decent Chinese food. A good selection of entrees and plenty spicy ones. Been here many times and the food quality is consistent. The restaurant is spacious and has a good distance between the tables. Met the owner there a couple times working, very nice person. Overall it's a place we'll repeatedly visit.

Yelp
Spice Spirit is one of the most traditional chinese restaurants in Phoenix. I like that it is clean and spacious, and it's my go-to place to go after a long hike in east Mesa to replenish my electrolytes and eat a lot of spice. Generally, they are quick to serve you, but I think it might be because I go when it's not super busy. I did notice them slow down the one time I went during dinner time and not ~4:30 pm on a random Tuesday. The food is so freaking good. I love their dry pots, cauliflower, fried fish, water boiled fish, and century egg. Literally, everything on the menu is fire (no puns intended). It has a good amount of spice with a great flavor that compliments the dishes well. I do not have anything bad to say about Spice Spirit. Any time I'm in the area, I have the debate of going to several asian restaurants, and ~3-4/10 I come here (there are so many options in this area and sometimes they are closed when I'm hungry).
