"Spice Land is bit of a love-it-or-hate-it spot for Croydon; it’s definitely not for everyone. A no frills tummy filler style shack, it sticks to the basics of South Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine. The plus side: two people can easily eat for £15. The menu is more curry than dosa focussed, but the devilled dishes — cooked in the traditional style with green chillies, and extremely spicy — are worth a try. Devilled potatoes, or one of the seafood options will go great with a curry and some rice." - Harkaran Gill

Even though I'm a regular, I believe there's plenty of room for improvement. First, the food. Let me begin with coconut chutney. The chutney tastes of coconut oil, which makes it a bit bitter. On a couple of occasions, I was served with lukewarm chicken biriani that didn't taste well. Second, they sometimes leave cartons in the eating area, presenting not a great sight while eating. Otherwise, it's a good place. The people are super friendly and courteous.

Very nice simple food and lovely service. Had the kottu and aubergine curry (and a very nice cup of masala tea)- great value and nice flavours

My experience with the chicken fried rice at Spiceland restaurant was far from satisfactory. The rice was dry and clumpy, lacking any discernible flavor despite its promise of being seasoned. The chicken pieces were tough and seemed reheated, lacking freshness. Moreover, the portion size was minimal for the price charged, leaving me feeling ripped off. The overall dining experience was underwhelming, and I would advise others to steer clear of this particular dish at Spiceland.Overall, I would not recommend this dish to anyone looking for a satisfying dining experience."

The place is well located, can be found easily on the main street. It's a corner building. The staff are really friendly and kind. Food is served quick and hot. Taste is good and the food is value for money. Ambience is average.. Would rate this restaurant as a quick breakfast /lunch /dinner restaurant rather than spending hours in it. OverAll good experience. If you're looking for South Indian and Srilankan food for a budget friendly price and good service. This is the place to go.

One of the worst nithili puttu I ever had in my life. Waste of money. Spoiled everything. No more orders from you. Thank you!

Yelp
Spice land a neighboring restaurant - sits right next to my neighboring door. Paid multiple visits to this casual dine in restaurant with friends. Here is my review about Spice land - that says they specialize in srilankan and Indian fare. Ambiance - 2.5/5 A small casual dine in place - with a huge lamp post at the entrance, which is never decorated though The moment you step in you will notice a small bar counter. And a staff with a warm smile The seating is very minimal and holds up to 30 odd seating capacity. Basic seating options nothing great nor is their ambiance. Food -3/5 (overall) Been here for dinner multiple times And here are the ones we tried Tandoori chicken - 2.5/5 The chicken is too dry and lacks spices, and to my surprise they add curry leaves on top of it. At times we see the chicken kept in display and they just reheat it and give it back to us, which is disappointing. At least dishes like tandoori chicken aint done this way Chicken tikka - 1/5 (sad - passable dish) Please just avoid ordering this dish. The chicken breast pieces used to cook chicken tikka are undoubtedly old or too dry, With no marination or seasoning to it. The meat is chewy again! In one word it is disaster The portions are too less. Ghee dosa - 3/5 (descent one to order) Surprisingly - the dosa is pretty decent but they hardly used any ghee in the dosa, and it was Ghee roast, and the dosa looks pale and not roasted too. The chutney is too bland with no taste, Sambar is better. Vegetable Biryani -3/5 The vegetable biryani has loads of spices, veggies cooked well It is on a spicier note. So make sure you handle spice well if you are ordering this dish. Chicken Biryani -2.5/5 To be honest the chicken biryani is good, the portion is descent and the biryani has loads of spices like cloves, dalchini and bay leaves. The chicken pieces are cooked well. Not the Hyderabad dum biryani though. But at times noticed when they do not have chicken pieces in biryani - they just add chicken from some dry chicken curry, starter and push it across. This is surprising and sad again. Mutton Biryani -2.5/5 The biryani rice is good and cooked with basmati rice, the mutton pieces are too small and looks as if it is kheema biryani than a mutton biryani, and some pieces are again chewy The main problem here is at times the food is descent, at times it's below par. They are not consistent in terms of taste. Service -3/5 The staff are good and they respond to things and are at least knowledgeable about their menu and what they offer. VFM 3/5 The reason I rate them 3 - the staff and prices are not too steep But when it comes to food - I'm not happy or convinced with their style of inconsistency in taste of food which is a major concern They need to work up the same Kinda skeptical to go back again till they improvise on things!

Yelp
Spice land is in South London. This is a great place to get spicey savouries at great prices. It is a nice place to get mild, medium and highly spiced foods. It is all to the customers prefernce and that is important.
