Could this complete the holy trinity of restaurants at the corner of Mcferrin and Eastland? Spicy Boy's has already been posting strong reviews in their first month of operation, with legendary neighbors Mas Tacos and the Pharmacy, two of Nashville's most impeccable eateries.
It's tough to compete on any block in Music City with such an iconic culinary scene! But this restaurant opened by Baton Rouge natives is paying meticulous attention to a level of quality that will give them an edge. If you want an idea of the perfectionist approach to food preparation, the owners wouldn't even agree to open a Cajun restaurant unless they could acquire bread from the Leidenheimer Baking Company in New Orleans. That's the famous bread that makes authentic Po' Boys possible, and it makes for one beautiful sandwich at Spicy Boy's!
On that note, my selection was obvious, a half catfish Po' Boy sizable enough to be filling with crispy catfish that flakes apart in your mouth, fresh shredded lettuce, pickles, and tomato, mayo, and that wonderfully authentic bread! The Cajun fries are good too, maybe a little salty, but definitely among the higher end of the fry spectrum for quality. If the lines look long at the famed taco stand and burger joint nearby, pop into Spicy Boy's and you won't be disappointed!
They were out of andouille and beignets on my visit, struggling to keep some items in stock because of their exponentially growing popularity. Spicy Boy's is becoming quite the craze. But trust me, you'll find something on the menu that's available and worth eating! They're absolutely slammed unless you visit on Saturday at opening time, or 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on a weekday. Even in a relatively empty restaurant, it will take about 45 minutes to get your food as everything is made fresh, but it was worth my wait.
