Thoughly enjoyed our meal here, the service was fantastic and it was so cozy. The food was delicious and prices right for the portions. I'm always looking for good Walnut Shrimp and theirs was best I've found in a long while. I will definitely be adding them as a regular spot when I want some Chinese food.

Google
Chill vibe. I had the spicy noodles with pork, and it was delicious, but they were not kidding about the spice level! I like the walk-up and grab-a-beer option; it makes it convenient once you're finished and ready for another. I saw some other people's dishes, and the portions are big and looked equally delicious.

Google
Best Chinese food I have tried in Sacramento, and I’m Chinese. The food is authentic Sichuan and Hunan cuisine. The service is also fast and welcoming. I believe this place deserves a 5-star rating.

Food was great! 5/5 The shrimp fried rice tasted very fresh and came out pretty quick. The chow mein had good amount of crunchy veggies and a flavorful sauce. The salt and pepper chicken was fried to perfection in a light and airy batter that resembled tempura. We were so hungry we forgot to take a pic before eating so the pictures are after we had our fill and the aftermath. Service 2/5 for the initial treatment as we walked in. We arrived an hour before closing and told to wait at the front while the server said he will go ask the chef if it were okay. He came back a short while later and said the chef gave the okay for us order. About 20 minutes later, a party of 3 arrived and they were immediately seated without the server having to ask the chef if they could order. The only difference between us and them is that they were Asian and we are African-American. Edit:// As I was about to post this, a different server came up and said "I know it was edgy when you guys first walked in. It's just that our regular menu closes at 9:30pm and our skewer menu is open until 10:30pm". My thought to that is this: the original server who asked the chef if it were okay for us to order had no idea if we were ordering the regular menu or skewers. He saw us walk in and immediately said he had to go ask if it were okay. Overall, I had a great dinner with my husband as we were celebrating our anniversary and in a cheery mood.

Google
I'm from Hunan, and this pickled pepper bullfrog is absolutely delicious—very fresh and spicy, truly satisfying. The servers are very enthusiastic and have a great attitude. My only suggestion is that the restroom could be cleaned more thoroughly, as this is an important factor affecting customer mood and is crucial to the overall impression. I hope the owner can take note of this. Thank you very much.

Google
I ordered what I thought was honey walnut shrimp, it was called fried walnut prawns w house cream sauce. There was very little sauce and it was rather spicy, but what did I expect from a place called Spicy Dragon? I also ordered some chicken chow mein. It was standard nothing special. The vegetarian spring rolls were standard, and the pan fried green onion pancakes tasted like fried tortillas with no onion flavor at all. Not worth the 60 dollar price tag. Save your money!

Google
Good and authentic Hunan restaurant. Admittedly it would be difficult to know what to order if you aren't Chinese, but the typical Cantonese dishes won't be the best here. However the Hunan dishes are great. The Sichuan dishes are also around the best in the Sacramento area, but nowhere near the best Sichuan restaurants I've been to. However, great spices and flavors overall.

I wanted to try this place out, so I decided to check it out. I went on a Friday night, and when I got there, I was greeted by the host and server (ken). He sat me down and gave me water and hot tea. (Hot tea is free and included with your meal) I ordered the kiss of fire orange chicken and rice. In minutes of ordering, the food came out fresh and hot. The food taste good and the service was amazing.i recommended giving this place a try and ill definitely be back. Ken was an amazing server and made my whole experience really good.

Yelp
This is the only place in Sac to offer authentic Chinese Szechuan cuisine. And I say that as an ABC who's been to China, grew up in the Bay, etc. Don't miss out if you like spicy and Chinese

Yelp
Walking in, it appeared to be crowded with furniture to the point that I was unsure if they were open or not. Their table settings and benches are really cute, but the R & B music killed the vibe completely. The young man that sat us was very polite. Interestingly enough, our appetizer came out last. Salt and Pepper Chicken: My expectation for salt and pepper chicken would be lightly breaded and the pressed in salt and pepper served with green onions and garlic. This came out completely breaded, unknown spice served with bell peppers and onions. That being said, it was my FAVORITE thing we ordered. Personally it should be marketed differently, but it was delicious. Shrimp Chow Mein: Looked pretty basic, flavor was ok, still cooked to the perfect consistency. Filled with fresh onions, but very minimal shrimp. The shrimp was extremely "fishy" tasting if that makes sense, but still remained decent. War Wonton Soup: Served with a fair amount of veggies and wontons. Came with chicken and shrimp (still fishy). Soups are usually my go to for new places due to my personal obsession with broths. This broth tasted more like the sesame oil, I assume the ingredients were cooked in instead of the traditional broth flavor. All in all, food was decent, service was fast and the restraunt was clean.

Yelp
Food: 5/5 - the food here was really good, everything is a flavor blast full of spice and vinegary goodness I got their lamb noodles and although the noodles weren't my favorite kind (texture wise), I knew this going in the flavor was really delicious... I also got some lamb skewers on the side and damn those were so good- nice smoky flavor, well seasoned, tender and juicy from the fat Service - 4.5/5 the restaurant wasnt too busy we were seated immediately and although they forgot the ride we ordered but it was immediately taken care of when I raised my hand to mention it missing Ambiance - 5/5 the decor is nice and the restaurant is clean, it's dimly lit making for a nice environment to take a date.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! This place might look like a hole in the wall, but the authentic flavors and quick service speak for themselves. I loved every dish. The Szechuan pepper fish and the eggplant tofu in garlic sauce were absolutely incredible. While Spicy Dragon itself isn't fancy, the food is to die for. The dark ambiance adds to the cozy, no frills vibe. A must try for anyone craving real, flavorful Chinese cuisine!

Yelp
For my beverage, I enjoyed a pot of hot tea. For my entrées, I had the General Tso chicken and the chicken chow mein; both of which were incredible in flavor and seasoning. The chow mein had the perfect texture of noodles, and the chicken had fantabulous flavor. The General Tso chicken was pretty decent in flavor, and the portion was pretty substantial. All in all, a great dining experience if you're in the mood for some good Chinese food.

Yelp
Every time I go here I get the salt and pepper calamari and burn my face off. But in a good way, you know way I mean.

Yelp
We shared the crispy beef and the shrimp chow mein. The menu has many spicy options with a heat index ranging from one red chili pepper up to three red chili peppers. Our meal, the crispy beef had two red chili pepper heat index. At first, this did not feel very spicy, but as a cumulative effect of a spice The food is excellent here. The chow mein has a smoky background that is just amazing. I have tried to reproduce it at home and have not been even close.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile but was too afraid that I was not able to tolerate the spice. Thankfully, their menu indicates the spiciness level of each dish. For appetizers, we ordered some of their vegetarian skewers - tofu skin with cilantro and oyster mushroom. They were very flavorful and seasoned well with minimal spice. For entrees, we ordered their vegetable chow mein and sizzling eggplant and tofu with garlic sauce. Both were good and delicious but too greasy for our liking. Neither were spicy at all. Our non-vegetarian friend ordered stir fried beef with pickled chillies which according to him, was quite spicy as expected. Food was good and portions were generous. Love that they clearly indicate vegetarian options on their menu!

Yelp
Specialized in Hunan cuisine (hot, spicy & salty), which is different than Szechuan. They updated the menu so it look more presentable. The dishes we ordered were great... salty, spicy & garlicky. The flavor is different from the typical Chinese restaurants. I def give it a try if you are up to try something authentic

Yelp
This was my second time coming to Spicy Dragon and I was hoping it would be better, but I was still underwhelmed. My family ordered the Numbing Spicy Beef Combo, Pork Intestine with Pickled Vegetables, Pork Kidney with Hunan Spicy Sauce, and Cauliflower with Mixed Chillies. I ordered the Pork Kidney in the past and the cook on the kidneys was definitely better than the first, however the pieces were still very thin and small and they packed on the chilis, so you barely got any kidney. The same was true for the Pork Intestines and Cauliflower where I felt there were more peppers than actual meat. My favorite dish was definitely the Numbing Spicy Beef. I thought the flavor was very good and tasted like other Szechuan restaurants I've been to. Although the service has always been good, I probably wouldn't return here.

Yelp
Food was okay, they had some traditional dishes that were a little different and surprising , for me. Wait staff was not good, we had to ask for things at least twice before it was completed.

Tracy L.

Yelp
Not fresh groceries for dishes.. Bully customers with weakness to give them not fresh foods.

Yelp
First time trying this place. Every time we passed there to go to 99 ranch so we finally decided to stop and grab lunch on a Sunday afternoon. There wasn't a wait so we got seated right away. We were unable to decide what to get for the kids since majority of the food is spicy (hence their name "Spicy Dragon" lol) so it too us a while to look thru the menu but the guys were so nice to suggest that he will ask the chef to put the least amount of spice on the fish dish we wanted our kids to try. The food came out pretty quick and we enjoyed every bit of it. Our kids' first time trying the fish fillet w/ pickled veg soup and they loved it!

Yelp
A friend invited me to eat there the other day. I ate there about a month ago and thought the food was okay but It was kind of warm inside ( like they were too cheap to turn on the a/c). I called them to inquire about their air conditioner and was told it wasn't fixed yet. I relayed my findings to my friend. She called them and was told that they have an air conditioner. Hmm. We ended up going and it felt over 80 degrees in there. I look at the wait staff and 3 of them are fanning themselves with menus. It was over 110 degrees outside that day. I give the food 4 out of 10 stars and the ambience 0 out of 10. Turns out both calls were right. The central a/c didn't feel like it was working but they had a POS portable unit on top of a cooler. Looks like it exhausted back into the room.

Yelp
Food 8/10 Service 10/10 Parking is plenty Late post from 12/12 Maybe a family own Sichaun business but this local restaurant is nice and very presentable. I would drive by it because the previous business owner's food and service was really bad and I didn't know it has a new owner. Their English is pretty good so go give them a try and be patient if they can't or you can't understand them. Overall experience from entering to our exiting was excellent. Hope you all enjoy this review and let me know how your experience went. Good day fellow foodie

Yelp
Excellent flavors and great service. No wine selection is available for now, and it gets a little smokey in the dining room due to the sizzling platters. But we still enjoyed it very much. Many thanks.
google avatar

Yelp
The kind of place that doesn't even list the specials in English great true numbing spice takeout food
google avatar

Yelp
Cute small spot. Many Chinese people eating here. I enjoyed the heat on the pickled greens pork. Also, braised pork belly buns is delicious soft and not too sweet. The winter melon pork soup came in this masssssive bowl. Definitely interested in trying the other stuff, good portions, staff was attentive and friendly.

Yelp
They are vegan friendly! I came here with a group of vegans and explained that we're vegan and we cannot do oyster sauce or fish sauce. The waiter told me that they do not have these things in their kitchen! I also told the waiter about egg noodles and he told me that the noodles had egg in them. We were able to order the lotus root, mabo tofu with no pork, fried soft tofu with explosive peppers, green beans and eggplant tofu. It was soooo good, all the dishes were a must order. The tofu in the eggplant dish was sweet and tasty, almost like how you'd cook pork. The lotus root was amazing, best lotus root dish I had. The mabo tofu and fried soft tofu had legit szechuan flavor. Portions are HUGE, they are designed to share with 3+ it seems like.

Lol L.

Yelp
If you're looking for real Szechuan flavor, this place is the truth. Hands down the most authentic Szechuan Chinese food out here--nothing else compares. The spice, the depth of flavor, the tingle of Sichuan peppercorns--it's all there. Every dish we ordered packed bold, fiery flavor without being overwhelming. You can tell they don't water anything down for the American palate.
google avatar

Lee S.

Yelp
Numbingly spicy and flavorful. A little on the oily/salty side. Mapo tofu had tons of flavor and saucy. The eggplant and green beans dish was good, but salty and oily. The chicken wings fried with like a pound of chilly peppers and peppercorn was the highlight. It was numbing, garlicky and spicy. A little too much dried chilli and not enough chicken for an expensive dish. The assortment of skewers were on the dry side and over seasoned for our taste. Orange chicken was just alright. Reminded me of the ones from Costco's frozen aisle. And, the waiters weren't the friendliest but were easy to flag down. They definitely favor Mandarin speaking people. I have to say though, it's one of the better szechuan restaurants in town. It could use some improvements but it's minor. Will visit again in the future.

Nito P.

Yelp
Service is horrible today. Server never checked on me. I could not eat my food and needed a fork. So i did not enjoy my food. I asked for cold raw oysters and server brought me cooked full off garlic. Service horrible

Yelp
Found this place quite by accident and as our third try today. The first two places we stopped ended up being carry out only. Glad we kept trying! We had the veggie spring rolls, veggie fried rice, and veggie chow mein. All were flavorful. I really liked the fried rice. The egg was cooked just right for my liking - a little brown on the edges. It wasn't seasoned with soy sauce, but the rice was still white with just the perfect amount of salt. The chow mein was tasty - the veggies fresh and not overcooked and lots of them! The spring rolls were the temperature of molten lava when they got to our table, so we had to fight every urge not to grab them and dig in, but instead let them cool to an edible temperature. They were delicious as well. We were hoping for hot mustard, but they don't have it. They do however have a delicious sweet/sour sauce that we both enjoyed. The restaurant was fine - kind of felt like it needed a deep clean and the music was definitely not to our taste, but the food was, so there you go!

Yelp
I called in my order, but their phone was having problems. I had to call again. It took about 25 minutes for my order to be ready. I do like spicy, but my parents not so much. Three of the four dishes I ordered were not spicy- Sizzling Eggplant and Tofu with Garlic Sauce, Dry Braised String Beans, and Salt and Pepper Pork Chops. We liked the eggplant and crunchy string beans. I expected the pork chops to be larger pieces. Even so, I enjoyed them. As for the last dish, Cumin Lamb, I wish there was more lamb. I would try this place again since it's conveniently located in the same plaza as 99 Ranch.
google avatar

Yelp
Customer service: Okay, no dedicated waiter -Food quality: Chow mein was , Kiss of Fire orange chicken's fire was extinguished because it was too sweet and lacking in crunch, Chinese sausage was -Bang for your buck: reasonable -Would I return? If I'm in the area
google avatar

Darren L.

Yelp
Yes! Me and my family tried Spicy Dragon last time. We went there with my brother for dinner last month. My family and I tried the Mala Combination Pot and I ordered the spicy octopus. Spicy Dragon is a Chinese restaurant by 99 Ranch Market in Sacramento. Last time, we went to Shanghai Cuisine.
google avatar

Jiaying G.

Yelp
Have been eating here for 3 years and recently went here for BBQ and food. The food is not as good as before and I will not be returning. The price increase is understandable but if the quality of the food drops due to a change of chef this is not a good decision. The service was excellent.
google avatar

Za S.

Yelp
The food was absolutely bomb, the only thing about it that was mediocre was the water, and yet the waiters still went out of their way to replace our water. The restaurant had a chill and calm lighting that was nostalgic. The only thing i would change would be how much salt they added. But still it was perfect.
google avatar

Lee M.

Yelp
My go to place for spicy Chinese food. Haven't had a bad dish yet. FYI. Skewers aren't always available.

Curtis J.

Yelp
Old ingredients selling to customer. Wrapping is very bad for to go and liquid splashing every where.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem - everytime family or friends are visiting this is one of those go to choices that is consistent and always delicious!! If you do or dont like spicy food this place is a hit - best fried rice ive ever had very light recipe- explosive spicy chicken is one of my favorites , salt and pepper chicken and calamari are both 5 star dishes as well - pretty much everything on the menu is good! Serives is always great and this place is open late!!
google avatar

Charlene T.

Yelp
We ordered take out and were pleasantly satisfied with our meal. The food tasted absolutely delicious with a ton of spices and flavor. Portions were packed to the brim of the container. Definitely would say prices are reasonable. Vegetable chow mein had a nice Smokey flavor and vegetable textures were cooked to perfection. The crispy beef entree is tasty too. You can tell they each had their own "sauce" so every dish has a distinct taste Would really like to come back and try their other options. The menu is robust so there's something for everyone! Overall would totally recommend giving this place a try.

Yelp
Review #009 - 2023 For my nephew's 21st birthday, I gave him a choice between this restaurant and another place so he decided on this one. I called to make reservations for 12 people on Saturday, June 24th, at 1:30 PM. We all showed up on time and were seated immediately. All my nieces and nephews trust my taste in food so they left the ordering up to me, plus since I was treating, they didn't want to order anything that I didn't like. Smart kids ;) I ordered A LOT of food, and most of the dishes were spicy and had the numbing peppercorn so my poor older sister couldn't really enjoy the meal with us. I told her to order something and she went with the braised pork belly with bun, which she really enjoyed! Thank goodness! Everything we ordered was good, especially the griddle cooked lotus roots and griddle cooked pork intestines. My sister said she really liked the popcorn chicken appetizer, which didn't have the numbing peppercorn. I ordered regular chicken chow mein and fried rice for the four kids since they can't eat spicy & they enjoyed both dishes. The only reason I couldn't give them 5 stars is because of the cleanliness. As soon as I showed up, I noticed one of the cooks sitting outside blowing his nose, which is a major turn off. Service was quick and friendly, but we probably won't return.

Yelp
First time at Spicy Dragon and have made the decision to make it a stop when we go to 99 Ranch for specialty grocery items. We went on a Thursday evening. Visible/close to Happy Lamb Pot for location reference. Szechuan style food, with plenty of chili peppers on the Menu and numbing spice. Since it was our first time, we went with the baos and braised pork belly, the tan tan noodles, and beef combo for appetizers. The pork belly was tender and juicy. I wish it had long slivers of onions, rather than rings of green onions. The meat had soup underneath and a sautéed vegetables underneath that you can put into the pockets of baos. The tan tan noodles with perfectly chewy, w/ enough flavor in the soup to add plenty of flavor to the noodles. The spicy beef combo appetizer, would fair better with an order of rice. It has a ton of flavor, with chili, numbing spice, and salt. I look forward to eating and exploring this menu. It's a very large menu with diverse foods!

Daniela G.

Yelp
Service non existent for lunch. Had to be chasing our host/server for everything and absolutely no customer service. The young guy at the register /host/ server, does not look like he wants to be there. The food was ok but over spiced with Szechuan peppers which makes all vegetables taste like deodorant. Pretty nasty! Had to chew gum to get the taste out of my mouth. The shrimp fried rice was ok . Would not recommend this place and will never come back.
google avatar

Kay V.

Yelp
Wonderful, ambience, and fast service. The food came quickly, and was very flavorful and beautiful . I had the pork and leek. The produce was fresh and bright green , the meat was flavorful and cooked perfectly but a bit salty Will last for less salt next time. Definitely would recommend

Yelp
I've dined in once and taken out twice from here. The food items that I have tried have been really hit or miss. The first time I tried Spicy Dragon, I got the braised pork belly, dry fried intestine and a spicy whole fish dish. The pork belly and intestine were amazing. I thought the fish was okay. It was a bit tough and I wasn't crazy about the flavor. The second time I ordered to-go but they only had bbq skewers available. I was just happy they were opening late again. I had a wide array of their menu items from their beef, lamb and intestine skewers to their grilled scallop, grilled oyster and shrimp with quail egg. I was pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. My least favorite was probably the scallop. The shrimp with quail egg was the star of the show. I decided to order to-go from them again tonight. I ordered the dry fried intestine, the chili oil wonton and the stir fried ribs. The intestines were nowhere near as good as the first time I had them, the chili oil wontons barely had filling and the ribs were dry. The food wasn't as good as the first two times but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and still give them four stars. It must have just been an off night.
google avatar

Ida J.

Yelp
Get together with friends! Our order: honey walnut shrimp, Sichuan boiled beef, sweet and sour spare ribs, dry pot cauliflower and a few skewers. Don't @ me but I wasn't expecting how Americanized the dishes were. My friends jokingly asked if the plate of spare ribs was sesame chicken. That and the boiled beef looked quite different from what I've had elsewhere. The skewers were sadly on the lean side. The spices are toned down by multiple notches. Flavors are sweeter than what I'm used to. While they didn't suit my palette, everyone else around me seemed to enjoy them. Service is relatively minimal like a lot of other Chinese restaurants. In the same plaza as 99 Ranch.
google avatar

Grace J.

Yelp
Will 100% be back here for the very worth it portion sizes and flavor. The chicken was soft, perfectly fried and spicy and salty all at the same time. Definitely be careful because sichuan food doesn't skimp on the spice level!! The noodles were perfect and I feel like i would love to come back for them if I were sick or needed something warm and filling. And lamb skewers were also super tasty! All in all super authentic Chinese sichuan food and will be coming back. Very reasonable prices too!

Yelp
My son took me, his sister, and his niece to lunch last week and we have been trying to find a good Chinese place. We decided to try Spicy Dragon and checking it out on Yelp. We were greeted and seated right away. Our Oder was taken and we tried the Mongolian beef, fire orange chicken, general Cho's chicken, & chicken chow mien. The chow mien was really good. We forgot to take a photo of it before everyone put. Some on their plates. We all agreed it was the best we've had. The rest of the food was good as well. We will definitely be back. Only downside is their appetizer menu is kind of limited.

Janice N.

Yelp
Food was so bland. Such a disappointment. Restaurant is nice and clean and the food came out fast. Too bad it was not good.
google avatar

Valerie K.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The prices are higher, but you can easily get multiple servings off each plate here, so it's definitely a great spot for eating family style. Highly recommend if you're in the area! Authentic shichuan cuisine.
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
A delicious experience at this restaurant! This venue boasts of spicy dishes with such a huge menu it's hard to choose anything. When you walk in, you're greeted by a large mural that is perfect for taking pictures. The food was amazing and lived up to its name. Our party chose multiple dishes to share family style. Of those dishes we had: maopo tofu, numbing beef, braised pork belly, hunan style chili steamed fish, and jalapeño eggs. Everything was delicious! The flavors were absolutely delicious and worth every dollar for the price ($$). The only thing I didn't like too much was the numbing beef because it was actually numbing. I couldn't taste anything and it was a cold dish. I like hot dishes to be honest. It's actually my fault because the server told us how spicy the dish was, but I wanted to try it anyways because why not. All in all, I would order all of these again, but beware you WILL NEED TUMS!
google avatar

Vivian L.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've been here so it deserves an update. Ordered the numbing combo, tan tan noodles, and eggplant and tofu. I would order the tan tan noodles again! I enjoyed the taste and it went well with the eggplant and tofu (more tofu than eggplant). The numbing combo was okay, I would probably order something else next time. Two entree dishes would be enough to share between two people.

Casper G.

Yelp
Spicy Dragon in Sacramento serves authentic Szechuan cuisine. The dishes are boldly flavored and generously coated with the signature numbing heat of Szechuan peppercorns, delivering that unmistakable tingle with every bite. Clean looking restaurant.
google avatar

Huey N.

Yelp
The chicken wings with explosive chilis were great. It's probably my favorite rendition I've had. They fry chopped wing flats and coat them with the right amount of salt and szechuan pepper. The boiled fish was also good. I like eating the broth with rice, which is hard when there is an inch thick oil slick on top (like most restaurants). This broth has none of that, so I was able to have it without feeling gross. The cold tendon and beef slices were solid.
google avatar

Delaney S.

Yelp
The Stir fried beef aorta dish and the Fried fish fillet dish were amazing. Spicy and delicious. Probably one of the best restaurants I've been to. An easy 5/5. The inside was nice and comfortable and not noisy. No wait, and the service was good. Highly recommend.
