The 19 Best Chinese Restaurants in San Francisco

"The surroundings are bare enough to qualify as purgatory, but for lovers of spicy fare, this humble eatery in downtown San Mateo is worthy of ascension into the astral plane. In an area with plenty of Sichuan dining options, the mostly Chinese-speaking crowd demands that the flavors are authentic and on point. As is typical, most dishes here revolve around the interplay of tingling peppercorns, mouth-scorching dried chilies and luscious chile oil, from the delicate pork wontons topped with crushed peanuts and scallions to the silky fish fillets and firm tofu swimming in a delectable bright-red and fiery oil bath. Calm your palate with bites of garlicky sautéed water spinach. Then dive in for another chopstick-full of the spicy, tangy chile pork." - The MICHELIN Guide

Best Sichuan food in the San Mateo area!! Be adventurous and try it out. Dumplings in Spicy chili oil were super tasty. Numbing beef tendon appetizer too, very yummy. Must try deep fried fish filet with chilis and cold noodles. Great food and ambiance.

One of my favorite Szechuan places! Very unassuming but their flavors are all on point. Everything had layers of flavor. I hate it when you order beef noodle soup somewhere else and they just give you mildly flavored stock out of box with store bought noodles. The beef noodle soup here was really flavorful with soft stewed meat. Their mapo tofu and Chong qing fried chili chicken are both mouth watering and just straight up hits the spot when I'm craving Szechuan food.

Excellent Sichuan food! The dishes I ordered were all quite authentic. The waitress was very friendly to me, too. I’d come back here for sure!

We went for lunch. It was a big bowl of noodles, but too much noodle. They tasted really good, but I wish it had more vegetable to balance. The service was great the lady was very friendly, and she swapped the beef for the chicken for me on one of the dishes. The tan-tan noodles were really good, with the flavoring and stuff underneath the noodle. But it was too much Noodle, and too oily.

Sichuan dishes with a good amount of nonspicy options, despite the name of the restaurant! The salted egg green beans taste awesome, like healthy fries!

Dumplings were good, a meal in itself. The duckblood soup was bland. There is automatic 15% gratuity.

Delicious! Spicy and so good. Service was excellent. Found this place on a whim in our neighborhood and we look forward for to returning! The green beans were out of this world

Great Sichuan food. Been here for more 10 years. I wish their bring back the way they prepare the pork belly and garlic sauce. I don't really like the put noodle.
