Where to Find Houston’s Best Dim Sum - Eater Houston

"Prominent signs out front that read “All Day Dim Sum” assure you that you’ve reached the right place. Known for its strong dim sum game, Shanghai serves up crazy-good ham sui gok, fried glutinous pork puffs, lava buns, and the equally delicious Cheung fun rice roll with crispy shrimp and chive. Kids will also love the adorably Instagrammable pig-shaped sweet milk buns." - Minh Truong, Mai Pham

Despite the name, this spot leans Cantonese for its all‑day dim sum, from ham sui gok and lava buns to cheung fun with crispy shrimp. Eater Houston spotlights its playful pig‑shaped milk buns and dependable, anytime service.

Great place to try out authentic Tujia (土家)cuisine and ordering the steamed fish head with chili was memorable. The fish head is massive! The flavors of everything we got were delicious. We also got “saliva chicken” (口水鸡)which would be better translated as “drool-worthy chicken”… there’s a good amount of numbing spice in that dish. Eggplant with garlic sauce (鱼香茄子),spicy and sour shredded potato, sautéed long beans, beef with broccoli were all delish. Chrysanthemum tea was fragrant though the color was different from what I’ve previously seen. We even chatted with one of the owners, who’s super nice. Overall this is a place I’d visit again and bring friends.

Authentic and delicious Chinese menu! Flavor was great! Had pork and lamb Very typical interior - some tables are located a bit too close to the bathroom though… Will definitely come back to try more items

Got premium food so we got premiums flavors. For Christmas day our family decided to have a feast. We got the Alaskan king crab that was $54 a pound. Our crab was 10 pounds. That and all the other stuff added together made the meal a wonderful experience. Flavors were on point and fresh to the taste. As usual we got so much food I had to clean up the ends of the plates as everyone was getting full. This place is definitely a hidden gem. Initially when you walk in there is a smell from the tank that holds the seafood but very quickly you get used to it in anticipation for the food.

This was our first time at Shanghai restaurant. We tried to go one other time but it was still closed because of Covid. The restaurant was a lot smaller than I expected. We came for dim sum and although the food was very good, you do just order the items off of a menu. They do not push the carts around so you do not get a true dim sum experience. I would not say the waitresses were super friendly but that does lend to a true dim sum experience. We had to ask for water several times and they didn’t refill. I was very impressed with all of the food though. The portion sizes were very big and everything tasted very good. The shrimp dishes all had large pieces of shrimp. Fried dishes eere fried well - not too greasy and steamed dishes were nice and hot. We got the little piggy buns just for grins. We had 7 adults and we ordered A LOT of food (packed up 3 Togo boxes) and the price was very reasonable. We will definitely come here again.

The food is really good here, however the wait to get the food is alway horribly SLOW, so if you have time to wait the go for it, if not probably better to skip….

reasonably priced dim sum in a smaller casual atmosphere. if you want to avoid the the crowds at some of the other over crowded places, you can get your dim sum in a low key friendly place.
