NYC New Restaurant Openings, August 2025 | Eater NY

"The downtown neighborhood is brimming with cinnamon rolls thanks to this newcomer, where the menu features flavors like the classic topped with a sugar cookie, cookies and cream, strawberry shortcake, s’mores, and a savory pistachio pesto burrata; there’s also a cinnamon roll challah with braided dough." - Nadia Chaudhury

Spirals - Review - East Village - New York - The Infatuation

"First, there was Sunday Morning. Then, there was Benji’s Buns. And now, there’s Spirals, the third cinnamon roll bakery in lower Manhattan to open this year. The East Village bakery has classic rolls, plus a few that rotate, like a cookies and cream roll, and a savory pesto burrata number. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Willa Moore

New NYC Bakery Spirals Opens in East Village With Cinnamon Rolls | Eater NY

"Set to open on Sunday, August 3, this cinnamon roll bakery at 137 First Avenue (between St. Marks Place and East Ninth Street) lays out a playful menu: the classic topped with a sugar cookie, cookies and cream, strawberry shortcake, s’mores, and even a savory pistachio pesto burrata roll. There’s also a cinnamon roll challah with braided dough. Founder and baker Arin Senior, who previously worked in the strategic financial department of Estée Lauder Companies, began developing her cinnamon roll recipe in 2023 with the goal of opening her own bakery." - Nadia Chaudhury

Google
So excited to try this new roll place! I went classic with the cinnamon roll, did not disappoint. Very fluffy, strong cinnamon flavor, super creamy and rich frosting. Would recommend sharing! The space is cute and rather small, they have cool merch too! Also a few savory rolls to make everyone happy and full 😋 I need to come back to try more flavors!

Google
I got the pumpkin roll and the apple pie roll. The pumpkin pie roll was ok. It was bready and dry, but I really liked the cream cheese frosting. The Apple pie one was so delicious, not dry at all like the pumpkin pie one. I loved the apple filling. I got both rolls warmed up, but they were still kinda cold. The workers were really nice and friendly.

Finally got a chance to try Spirals after hearing so much about it, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The classic cinnamon roll was even more delicious than it looks, and the icing was out of this world. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and I was able to sit by the window and take in the cozy bakery vibes while I enjoyed my roll. I will definitely be coming back to try out their new flavors.

Google
I consider myself a cinnamon roll connoisseur and they are probably my favorite sweet treat and these are the best I’ve ever had. I love how fresh creative and delicious each and every flavor is. I came in August when they opened to try all of the flavors and was hooked so I just came back to try all of the new ones in September and they did not disappoint! My favorites are the cookie dough, french onion soup & pumpkin. I’m in awe at how fresh they are and the quality is amazing. The owner, Arin is also so sweet so definitely try to chat with her when you stop by!

Google
As soon as I heard of this spot opening up, I knew I had to add it to the itinerary for my NYC trip. We went with the regular cinnamon roll since you can never go wrong with the classic and it did not disappoint. The dough was fluffy and light and the cream cheese frosting had the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness from the cream cheese. Will definitely be back to try more fun flavors when I’m in town!

Google
Newly opened cinnamon roll store, offering good variety of fluffy, soft, delicious rolls. I love the chocolate lovers' roll and strawberry cheesecake. It is less sweet than other cinnamon roll you normally get, but still with rich flavor. Would love to try savor ones next time.

Google
Heaven on Earth may not be on First Avenue but there are few places more divine than this sanctuary of edible bliss. As a classic man, I went with the classic spiral but I assure you there are other more exciting options for those needing additional stimulation. In short the cinnamon rolls are amazing -perfect when warmed -expect to scrape the wax paper for any and all remnants

Google
Nothing says fall like a cinnamon roll in Tompkins. I got the classic, and it was fluffy, creamy, and so warm. I especially loved the frosting that was deliciously whipped and not too sweet. Can’t wait to try the apple and pumpkin, and it seems like they always have interesting seasonal specials.

Yelp
Best cinnamon rolls in NYC!!! The staff were all so lovely and I already can't wait to go back

Yelp
Cinnamon roll pretty good. Restaurant improperly charging tax on bakery items (TB-ST-525) Hope this gets fixed.

Josie L.

Yelp
Such a great selection! Loved the sweet rolls, the pumpkin one was a great balance with the cinnamon sugar and cream cheese frosting.

Yelp
Pesto Burrata Roll ($8.50) - I've never had a savory roll like this and I was blown away. It was so simple yet the pesto was so flavorful and the burrata was so fresh and paired so well together. Pumpkin Roll ($9.75) - Their pumpkin rolls smelled heavenly and I couldn't wait to try them. The rolls were fluffy and the icing was perfectly sweet.
google avatar

Yelp
It's a small shop with a couple of bar stools inside and a bench outside. Very quick and polite customer service. Insanely comforting and decadent. The original cinnamon roll feels like a warm hug in crisp fall day. The little Cookie Crisp at the top was a nice delicious touch. Peanut butter chocolate was also pretty good. Can't wait to go back and try different flavors.

Yelp
I was skeptical of these cinnamon rolls because I thought the videos made them look dry and dense, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I came with 3 other people on a Friday evening around 5:30pm and there was no line. There's a couple seats at the counter window but I'd suggest taking them to the park or at home to eat. The only roll they seemed to be out of at this time was the original cinnamon roll. Instead we ordered the banana crème brûlée, devils food cake, chocolate hazelnut, and pumpkin roll. The rolls were all very light/not super dense and not obnoxiously sweet. They were all delicious, but the one that stood out the most and I think is worth returning for is the pumpkin roll. It's a shame it's a seasonal flavor but I'd get it if you can! The cream cheese frosting on it was incredible.
google avatar

Yelp
This was a very solid cinnamon roll, we got the classic flavor. I wasn't blown away by it, but it wasn't bad. I'm from California, so maybe my preferences are the cinnamon rolls in my home town? The frosting was good, but I do wish it was warmed up a bit more.

Yelp
I first saw Spirals at Smorgasburg where they looked delicious but were also $12 each which seemed insane. I stopped by at the storefront which is a small shop tucked away on 1st Ave, here the regular rolls are a bit more reasonably priced at $8.50 and the vegan one is $9.50. I appreciate how essentially everything is made in house, they're clearly very intentional about crafting each month's flavors. I tried the vegan devil's food cake roll and found the roll to be aesthetically very pleasing, dough was soft, but the chocolate flavor somehow didn't come through as much as I expected. The dough itself wasn't sweet and there wasn't much of a filling within the roll so the whole thing was almost under-sweet which is hard to do as a chocolate on chocolate dessert. The 2PM closing time on weekdays is also quite tough, hopefully hours can expand so that it can be an after work stop!
google avatar

Gab G.

Yelp
Had $5 off so decided to give this place a try. Came on a weekday with a friend, and there was no line. We split the pesto burrata and original cinnamon rolls. The original was fantastic, and the burrata was amazing! Limited space to eat in so would recommend taking your rolls to go.
google avatar

Julie Ying X.

Yelp
I'm not a cinnamon roll person but I decided to check this place out since I was in the area. I have to say, the cinnamon rolls were huge and there's interesting flavors including savory ones. The prices were reasonable. I tried the pumpkin roll. It tasted fresh and had a strong cinnamon flavor. There's not much pumpkin spice flavor though. The cream cheese frosting was good. There's limited seating so best to take it to go. I would come back, I really want to try the savory flavors next time.

Yelp
I heard the raves and couldn't wait to try them. I had my eyes on the strawberry shortcake, when I walked in noticed they had minis, but was told they are sold by the dozen. Boo. Went with strawberry shortcake and they asked if I wanted it warmed - yes! They stuck it in a toaster oven for one minute. It was not warm. It's extremely dense and chewy, the strawberry filling/goo way too sweet. Tastes nothing like strawberry shortcake (or the good humor ice cream bar which I think inspired it). It's vegan so perhaps that why?! We each took a bite and then threw it away. Maybe it's best to stick to the regular ones. Was a letdown at almost $11 with tax.

Yelp
I stopped in on a Wednesday around lunchtime and was greeted immediately upon entry. There were many enticing options to choose from, but I ended up going with a classic cinnamon roll. It was truly delicious - soft, but not overly sweet. The frosting was very light. I knew that I wouldn't be eating the cinnamon roll for a few hours after I purchased it so I asked the best way to reheat it. They told me to pop it in the microwave for a few seconds. A 10 second stint in the microwave was perfect! I will certainly be back to try some of the more adventurous flavors!
google avatar

Andy L.

Yelp
Rating: 4/10 Date Last Visited: 9/7/2025 We ordered the Strawberry Shortcake Roll ($9.50) and Cookie Dough Roll ($8.50). The cookie dough cinnamon roll was pretty good, warm and soft with good taste. But the strawberry shortcake roll was pretty mid, maybe because it was vegan. For almost $10 per roll, these are extremely overpriced and I personally think this place is overhyped. The cinnamon rolls aren't bad, but they aren't amazing either. Overall, I would not recommend unless you really are craving a cinnamon roll.
google avatar

Kathryn T.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place so much more than I did. Unfortunately for a $10 cinnamon roll, my standard is a little higher than I would expect for any other normal bakery. It is good and the flavors are delicious. However, the cinnamon roll itself in the pastry, felt a little thin and flat, and it wasn't as life-changing as some of the other cinnamon rolls in the city. It's worth trying at least once especially a seasonal flavor. The OG is something that you can find in any kind of run of the mill bakery. The highlight of the place is the cream tree is frosting. The staff is also incredibly kind and friendly.
google avatar

Sophia W.

Yelp
It's kind of expensive for one cinnamon roll (~$9), but it's a dream for all cinnamon roll lovers! They are large and fluffy, sweet but not overly sugary. I tried the original cinnamon roll and loved the cream cheese frosting. The pesto burrata roll was also surprisingly good for those who prefer a savory snack! The staff were so kind and friendly even though the small store was packed when I got there. They have creative rotating flavors.
google avatar

Samah I.

Yelp
Amazing flavors that alternate monthly. In September I tried their cookie dough, French onion and burrata pesto. I love that they offer to heat it up for you. The cookie dough flavor literally reminded me of CAKE with how sweet and fluffy the dough was. The savory buns absolutely delivered on the promised flavors and were also soft and pillowy. I would've loved a stronger French onion flavor for the French onion bun but it still delivered on its promise with the croutons and caramelized onions. The pesto burrata one was the winner of the savory. Pesto throughout the bun and a nice dollop of burrata on top.
google avatar

Mandy L.

Yelp
Came here because of all the hype but it didn't live up to expectations Pros: - Very friendly staff - Small seating area inside and there's a "tree bench" outside Cons: - Asked for the roll to be warmed but it was still a bit dry and lacked the gooey mess that makes a great cinnamon roll - Size was also a bit disappointing for the price

Yelp
Spirals had no queue on Saturday afternoon so I went in. The interior is tiny. All the cinnamon rolls were displayed. The strawberry one is popular. I ordered the traditional one and didn't want it heated. A customer gave me her stool. I sat facing the street to eat. I cut the cinnamon rolls in quarters and scraped off most of the vanilla icing. It was quite tasty. I grew up on homemade cinnamon toast and so this for me is a novelty. At $8.50 it was also pricey but then what isn't nowadays? Taylor, the young lady taking the orders. had the patience of a saint. The owner was standing at the rear looking at a laptop. Will I return?
google avatar

Lily B.

Yelp
Cannot say better things about this cinnamon roll bakery! The person working was so kind and helpful, offering great suggestions. And the cinnamon rolls are absolutely divine and my perfect type of cinnamon roll. So fluffy and pillowy, the dough almost melts in your mouth. I tried their seasonal specials: the pumpkin roll and the cookie dough roll. Both had the perfect amount of frosting, and were sweet but not too sweet. I could've used a touch more filling inside the rolls but both were overall so tasty. Cookie dough is #1 for sure though. It has cookie dough swirled inside the roll. Nuff said.
google avatar

Ashley J.

Yelp
Had been seeing this all over the food sites and I think it's worth the hype. I love that they have different flavors and thoroughly enjoyed the pumpkin. I was shocked there was no line at either 10 am or noon on a Saturday. The roll itself was doughy and not overly sweet or sticky but has a lot of good flavor. Was very clean and cute inside. Great addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
Ordered from Spirals for an office birthday celebration per my co-workers recommendation. Made sure to plan the celebration for a Wednesday since they only do deliveries Wed - Sun. I exchanged several emails with their customer service which was really helpful in determining the best order for my group size. They were very patient and even included photos in their responses. I ended up ordering 48 minis - 2 dozen in original and 2 dozen of cookies & cream, in addition to two cinnamon roll hallah breads w/ frosting. Everything was delivered right on time and packaged nicely. From the 3 different products, the challah bread was most people's favorite. The original minis were tasty but no one cared for the cookies & cream. They didn't really resemble buns - tasted like a weirdly flavored piece of bread. I had some of one and didn't care for it. All in all, I'm glad we tried this place out. The minis are the perfect size for catering/a party. If I was ever in the area, I'd try to pop into the bakery to try one of their full sized specialty flavors.

Yelp
Got their s'more cinnamon roll to share with my boyfriend and it was really good! It was very chocolaty but not too sweet which was quite surprising for a cinnamon roll. While the cinnamon roll was huge and tasty, I'm not sure if it was worth $8.5. That was very pricy for a cinnamon roll even in Manhattan.
google avatar

Caroline F.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday afternoon and there was no line. Went with the plane because others looked too sweet (aside from the pesto burrata). You have to ask for them to heat them up. As you can see it kind of ruined the aesthetic, but made it much more enjoyable! It was light and fluffy (as opposed to a denser roll), but I found the icing to be overwhelmingly sweet. Truthfully I like the other ones in East Village better but you'll have to try them out for yourself! It was also by far the most expensive cinnamon roll I've had. On the plus side, cold brew is only $3.50 and strong!
google avatar

Emily Y.

Yelp
One of the best cinnamon rolls i've had in the city! They were gooey, and the dough and fillings were amazing. They make them fresh everyday, though you may have to wait a bit for some flavors like the original if you go early in the morning. The employees were super kind and very welcoming. I love how they have flavors of the month and switch it up every month. Today, I got the cookie dough which was AMAZING - I got it fresh so it came straight out of the oven and the sauce was nice and melted on the top, where they do a nice addition to each roll and put a pumpkin spiral to the top of each roll. Though the cinnamon rolls were kind of expensive (~$8.50) for each roll, they are definitely worth it and a nice pick me up, or treat to have once in a while! Note: not many seats inside - kind of like a mini stool area, so it's kind of like a grab and go spot!
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
So lucky we were able to snag the last cinnamon roll when we went! There was a line out the door and we went a half hour before close, so the selection was picked over, but I'm so happy to see the success they're having! The staff were friendly and handling the volume of customers well. We brought our cinnamon roll back to CT and had it that night, and it held up well! Heated it up in the microwave for 15 seconds and it was perfect. Such a great concept! Next time I hope to try the cookies and cream!
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
Super nice staff but for $8.50, I felt like the classic cinnamon roll was a little lacking in flavor (more cinnamon needed in the center?). I got it to go and heated it up in my apartment but even the center of the roll wasn't hitting the right spots. Good icing though!
google avatar

Matthew L.

Yelp
Pretty bland and average for something this expensive. Cashier was fantastic and very social! There was no wait and got our food incredibly fast. Got the strawberry shortcake and classic cinnamon roll (not pictured, but below the strawberry shortcake.) - Classic roll tasted ok, but I wouldn't say it's the best according to other reviews. Hani's which is a few blocks away makes a way better cinnamon roll. This one honestly tasted quite average and almost reminded me of canned Pillsbury doughboy. They ask if you want it to be warmed, which we said yes too, but very somehow still cold. (3/5) - Strawberry Shortcake was pretty bad. I could see why there were so many remaining, but I'm a sucker for anything strawberry and it looked visually appealing. This one tasted like white wonder bread with canned strawberry jelly, it reminded me of one of those boxed Entenmann's Cakes. (2/5) Won't come back, but hope others can enjoy it!

Yelp
There seems to be multiple cinnamon roll spots opening up all over the city, and Spirals is the most recent one. Be sure to check out their site, as they list the featured monthly and rotating flavors, such as Cookies & Cream, Pesto Burrata, and Strawberry Shortcake. We ordered: +the Original Cinnamon Roll +the Strawberry Shortcake Roll +and, the Pesto Burrata Roll - was super curious about their savory version They also have their Original Cinnamon Roll Challah, which are available on Fridays! Love that everything is handmade - the rolls were fluffy and had a generous amount of topping - no skimping out here! Easily shareable between a couple of people, too. Staff and serve were both friendly and welcoming; super efficient, and the line moved along well. Some counter seating available, but it's more of a to-go type of a place - be sure to check out their swag (their hoodie is super cute!)! Great spot to grab a snack or to satisfy a sweet tooth! +cinnamon rolls +rotating flavors on a monthly basis +Original Cinnamon Roll Challah on Fridays +friendly service
google avatar

Tamara L.

Yelp
I first experienced Spirals on Claim and their product really is out of this world. The rolls are so buttery & light at the same time which seems almost impossible. I have gone twice and both times I ordered a savory roll because it's just so unique. You can go anywhere for a sweet cinnamon roll but savory is not something I've seen before. I would love to soon try a sweet and/or their challah. Keep up the good work spirals!

Sam G.

Yelp
I have no choice to write a review. I definitely doubted this place when I came, but I love a good cin roll so I said why not. The dough was surprisingly very moist through out, not just the middle. Usually I rip the end pieces off and just go for the middle, but I actually went back and ate it all. Very sweet, and tastes fresh. I tried the cookie dough one upon the cashiers request. I'd definitely recommend this place!

Matthew P.

Yelp
I enjoyed the size of the rolls but in general, I didn't think there was anything special about the rolls.
google avatar

Angelina L.

Yelp
really like how innovative their flavors are! the strawberry shortcake cinnamon roll didn't taste artificial at all & the strawberry flavor shined through! the pesto burrata balanced out the sweetness of the strawberry shortcake roll, and the burrata was super creamy.
google avatar

Kate N.

Yelp
so disappointing! I got the tomato soup and the devils food cake flavors. They were very "one note" and sad. I was so excited to try, but it would be hard to convince me to go back.
google avatar

Alyson D.

Yelp
The staff was friendly and the cinnamon roll was pretty good. Wish it was warmed up, a little pricey. But glad I tried it!

Laura F.

Yelp
Great flavors - love that they have both sweet and savory options. I have been a few times and will say this past time (10/10 weekend) the pumpkin and classic roll tasted like gas from the stove or an uncleaned oven which was disappointing.

Mathew L.

Yelp
I got the pesto snd mozzerella one thinking its a pistachio. Even asked the cashier and she said it is. Kinda bland and tasteless Not worth $9.25..maybe $4.50? Anyways I will try the other ones.

J D.

Yelp
The flavors are special but now cinnamon rolls are the hot NYC thing so there are a bunch of shops like this. The flavor was good but the roll was a bit dry and I asked for it warmed which didn't really work. It was a bit warm on the edges maybe but not throughout so they need to fix that.

Ilana S.

Yelp
get the pumpkin!!! was soooo good. Also want to try some of the chocolate ones which looked great. Will be back soon

Alexis B.

Yelp
Spirals was well worth all the hype I've been hearing!!! The rolls were large, moist and delicious. My friends and I were all talking about it for days after!!! Can't wait to go back !!

Kyle M.

Yelp
Awesome cinnamon roll -- super fresh, perfectly sweet, and great service. Definitely coming back!

Cindy M.

Yelp
My favorite new sweet spot in NYC. Tasty, homemade, creative favors and original OG cinnamon rolls. I love this cute place and even enjoy their savory roll for lunch or an afternoon snack from time to time when I'm not in the mood for a sweet one. Cold brews are great too! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Tamlyn C.

Yelp
Wanted to like this place as I live nearby but agree with the other reviews that it doesn't quite reach the cinnamon roll standard that other nyc bakeries have set (red gate, hani's). Staff is really friendly though! To note, the strawberry shortcake roll doesn't have any cream cheese frosting, which I didn't realize in my pre-coffee / pre-work run this morning.

Matthew F.

Yelp
I've been seeing Spirals all over social media lately. I made it a point to stop by while visiting NYC, and I'm so glad I did. They absolutely blew me away. I tried four different flavors, including the savory pesto burrata, and each one was uniquely flavorful and delicious. You can really taste the quality and creativity in every bite. The space itself is clean and welcoming. The owner and entire staff were so warm and friendly. I'll be recommending Spirals to everyone I know and will definitely be back the next time I'm in the city.

Esha V.

Yelp
We tried their cinnamon rolls in college and they came out on top! Good flavor and texture!

Gabi G.

Yelp
Gooey, flavorful, and best in the city!!! Got the strawberry and cookies and cream flavors and a few extra that I was enjoying for days. Must try!!

Andrew G.

Yelp
The best cinnamon roll I have ever had! Every worker I interacted with was so friendly. Couldn't recommend this place enough!

Jacob M.

Yelp
These rolls are absolutely incredible. Each flavor is absolutely delicious and beautiful. This is my favorite bakery in NYC!

Georgie A.

Yelp
Super kind and welcoming staff!! Loved the cinnamon rolls, overall a great experience!

Kim M.

Yelp
This place was so amazing and delicious!!!!!!!!! These buns are worth the wait!!!!! There are so many varieties and choices!!!! Definitely worth a trip!!!!!
