Philly’s Best Bagel Shops

"Spread’s Montreal-style bagels are hand-rolled, boiled in honey water, and baked in a wood-fired brick oven. The fast-growing chain already has 10 locations in and around Philly, with many more on the way." - Ernest Owens, Eater Staff

I got the Philly Special on onion bagels. It was sooo good! Took about 15min to receive my order because it was so busy. It was worth the wait, though! It may be difficult to find a table or chairs in weekends. Vegetarian options available. The entrance is technically wheelchair accessible, but it might be a little too narrow for electric wheelchairs to fit through. The other half of the store is like a sports bar, serving beer. It was pretty rowdy and chaotic even though it was Sunday morning. The place can be kid friendly, but I don't recommend it for any parents to bring their younger kids or babies.

The best bagel I have had! I ordered the nova scramble on rosemary bagel and literally thought about ordering a dozen bagel bag to take home after but knew I didn’t have the space to travel with it. The bread was so soft and fresh. The spread was lightly whipped. They had a huge selection of bagels and a brick oven. Lots of seating for game watch events etc. I went for breakfast before heading into downtown. I will definitely be stopping by next time I visit Philly.

Such a wonderful bagelry! Very clean, and a huge selection of bagels, sandwiches and coffees to choose from. We ordered the bagels with nova lox spread as well as bagels with veggie spread and they were mega fresh and delicious. The salted caramel iced coffees we ordered were equally fresh and delicious. Spread Bagelry has a warm, inviting and chill vibe. The kids working are are mostly UPenn students and they all are warm and welcoming. Definitely go to Spread Bagelry on Walnut Street. The best people and the best service you will get anywhere. Super highly recommended!

Some of the best bagel sandwich I have had. Great options as well as fresh bagels using wood oven style. Excited to try their different cream cheese flavors.

Great bagels, coffee & space. We had the Standard and Nova Scramble (cuz it was veggie but eggs got cooked in bacon grease:-/. Love the open space but music was too loud to maintain a conversation.

Bit pricey but food portions are HUGE. Think my bagel sandwich had half a dozen eggs in it-- could have easily split with someone else. Sausage patty was small on the other sandwich (not pictured) compared to the sandwich size, bacon was great on mine. Staff were super fast and friendly :)

Good is delicious, I just wanted to say that they have to pay attention in all the items for the orders, first bagel without bacon that I requested, second bagel I wanted everything bagel but it wasn't, both orders to go, so I arrived home and surprised 😯

We bumped into this place while out on a run and decided instead of continuing to run home, we would eat a bagel and walk home with full bellies. We were lucky enough to get some fresh out of the oven everything bagels. We both got the veggie cream cheese which was super yummy. We were a little disappointed that despite being a Montreal style bagel place, the bagels didn’t seem to have that slightly sweet taste as they do when they’re dipped in honey water as is traditional. But they were certainly wood fired which is always preferred! Great little outdoor patio space right along/above the river, which was a far better seating experience than the cavernous space inside.
