A great place for some noodles! This is probably the best tomato noodle soup I've had. The broth was robust and flavorful. The flavor also seeps into the noodles. The dan dan noodles are delicious too. The scallion pancakes stuffed with duck is a must try! I'll be returning to try more food. Would recommend!

3 adults and 2 kids Weekday Lunch 8/14 There was a promotion spend over $48 get soup dumpling. For 3 adults, it was easy to spend $48 especially since they charge $14.95 for a simple dish of Shanghai Bok Choy (if we wanted white rice it will be another $1 on top.) - the scallion pancakes was too oily. The pan fried crispy noodles was drenched in sauce and was not crispy. The waitresses looked like they didn’t want to be there and had scowls on their face. When the bill came we pointed out that we had qualified for the promotion, and that we spent $88. However instead of removing the soup dumplings that we consumed off the bill, the waitress insisted that they make us another order and they will not charge us for it. We brought this to the attention of the other waitress / manager and she was understanding and was about to do the right thing when the original waitress came by and told her to back off. To add to the insult we waited an additional 15 minutes for the soup dumplings after the bill came and we were ready to go. We had a three year old with us so those 15 minutes seemed like an hour. Anyway, the food was mediocre at best, the staff was unfriendly, and the customer service was terrible. I would go to any other restaurant in the neighborhood before coming to this one again.

Tried a variety of dishes here. Dry pepper chicken was good, but the chicken weren’t meaty. My favorite dish wash the mashed eggplant and pepper. Tried it 5 year ago and it’s still good! Just be careful if it’s you’re first time eating here, things can get a bit spy-c….

I have long loved crispy shredded beef since I first tried it at this place in Chinatown called Shanghai 21, well, today I ordered the elusive dish in which I thought I’d be in for a treat —WRONG!! It was dry as hell, and too salty and didn’t have any flavor other than spicy and salty (excessively salty). It had absolutely no sauce as I know it, no flavor, no texture. I ended up throwing it out completely! After a few tries. I should of stuck to general tso’s chicken instead and save my troubles trying something I thought would be a great find here in Forest Hills. $23 wasted and won’t ever come back as I would assume their other dishes follow this trend (or I may be wrong but thats just my opinion).

perfect for my spicy food craving. I get dry pepper or hot sauce fish. it's over $20 but decently sized, great value. it's like 1.5 or 2 meals worth depending on how much rice you eat, absolutely delicious 😋 I take anyone who likes spicy food. in general, one of the best restaurants in forest hills, top tier chinese food I usually do take out but the staff is always very friendly and welcoming

Im so disappointed in my first take out order here. I’ve heard amazing things about this neighborhood fave for years so I’m surprised that most of my order was underwhelming. I ordered the braised cabbage and pork belly-the amount of veg to meat was horrible. It was like 90% cabbage. 5/6 slices of pork maybe?! The beef in pancakes was good. Not worth $40. Maybe more of a dine-in spot?

Amazing Sichuan Chinese food. Service is fast and friendly, and every dish was delicious. Ordered the spicy cucumber salad, crispy spicy beef, mapo tofu, long beans with eggplant, and house special pork belly. Can't wait to go back and try more of their delicious menu. Highly recommend!

Spy C has a variety of spicy and non spicy dishes but the braised pork belly and walnut shrimp in mayo sauce are my favorites. Pork belly was tender and melts in your mouth. Shrimp was cooked perfectly with a sweeten mayo glaze. Soup dumpling is not the best - lacks flavor. Workers are friendly and food comes out pretty quickly. Price is a bit high for the portion.

I recently had lunch here and it was an overall fantastic experience. The restaurant's ambiance is cozy with soft lighting. The staff was friendly, attentive, and quick to accommodate our table, which was great. As for the food, the menu has a wide variety of options, making it hard to choose! I ordered the General Tso's chicken, which was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a sweet and slightly spicy sauce that was absolutely delicious. The portion sizes were adequate and the prices were reasonable for the quality. All in all, this restaurant is a solid choice for anyone craving flavorful, well-prepared Chinese food. I'll definitely be back to try more items from the menu!

I think this place was probably great when it first opened, but I have to believe that the original chef is gone. A few months back, I ordered scallion pancakes and a chicken dish - I think chicken in black bean sauce. The scallion pancakes came without any sauce to dip them into and they were quite greasy. The chicken dish came with tiny flat thin pieces of chicken that tasted undercooked to me. I had them throw it back in the wok to cook it more and when it came out, it still tasted really weird - the texture was horrible as if it was only fat or something. I could not eat it. I had them pack it up to go, but I tossed it in the trash. I don't know how you can blow a chicken dish. The ambiance is fine if you sit in the front, but in the back is a long narrow hallway and it's not very nice back there. Disappointing because I would love this place to be great. Forest Hills needs a great Chinese restaurant that's better than a typical takeout place.

Food is decent... photos on yelp all showed that the slow cooked fish and tofu with chilis come in a bigger container than what our delivery order came with... it also came in almost no chili oil... so pretty confused because this dish typically comes with much chili oil. It came in a small flat white container that everything else came in. A bit disappointed since that is our favorite dish, and the reason why I placed an order to begin with. We ordered 5 things: shrimp fried noodles, the garlic sauce chicken, fish and tofu in chili, pork belly in cabbage, and cold cucumber appetizer for a total of $100. ;Shanghai Zhen Gong Fu has similar menu items, and is definitely a better choice to order delivery from within the area, in my opinion, quality/taste/portion wise)

Great for take out and dinning in. Better than your average Chinese spot. Crispy beef never disappoints! I'm not well versed in Chinese food but I would say this is closer to authentic than other places in the area.

I was in the neighborhood and decided to try this restaurant, which used to be on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list. Since I was dining solo, I just ordered their infamous soup dumplings. I had mixed feelings about their soup dumplings. The dough was thicker than the ones I had at Shanghai Zhen Gong Fu, and even Nan Xiang Long Bao or Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao. The flavors were well balanced, but there was not enough soup as I was accustomed to at the three places mentioned above. Service was rushed, and the staff was too eager to take my order. The ambiance of the place has a local vibe and appearance of being in the neighborhood for so many years. I may return to try their Szechuan dishes such as the cucumber salad and cumin lamb.

I have never noticed this Chinese restaurant on Austin street until recently. So I swing by for lunch on a summer Thursday afternoon. Have to say it's a nice place to sit down and have a nice meal. For appetizers; I had the vegetable rolls that were super yummy. And for the main entree I had some delicious chicken lomein. Overall the food was super delicious and was served quickly. My lunch was delightful. The services were quick and pleasant. They had a lunch special as well. Overall the prices were affordable. I noticed a lot of folks did take out as well. I definitely see myself eating here more frequently.

We ordered delivery through GrubHub and it was delivered on time but the portions were small and no rice came with it. Flavor of the fish dish was good and the lamb was alright as well. The Lo mein barely had any beef. Not sure I want to order from here again.

Spy C is by far the best Chinese food that I've ever had in my life. It's sad that even eating their food about four or five times now, I still don't have any pictures. The food arrives to the apartment in Forest Hills, and we go in!! We love variety but also love things that are consistently delicious and perfect every single time. Those items are: Scallion Pancakes, Chicken Lo Mein, and Crispy Sesame Beef. The scallion pancake is so thin, so light, free from being doused in oil, and full of bright scallion flavor. The chicken lo mein is the freshest tasting one with such high quality ingredients, and also lacking any mushiness in the lo mein and completely free of any oil. The star of our meal every time though is the crispy shredded sesame beef. It's crispy, yet tender, full over flavor and a very generous portion. I absolutely love Spy C Cu

I went for lunch at a friend's recommendation. The restaurant has a pleasant ambiance, friendly staff and good food. I ordered the onion pancakes and the chicken lo mein, which arrived not long afterwards. Quick, attentive service, delicious food makes this an enjoyable gastronomical experience. I will definitely try SpyCee again in the near future.

This place is so basic. The food is decent, but you can find so much better in bayside or flushing for half the price. We ordered a few simple dishes and the bill was over 100 bucks. That's beyond insanity! Skip the spot and spent your dollars one something more authentic. The portions are weak also.

Decided to try more menu items recently for lunch. Got the Wok seared Chicken and broccoli and Black Bean chicken, both with white rice. Both came with a soup of choice. I had to get the Hot n Sour Soup, one, I'm a soup head, two, its SPY-C! Speaking of SPY-C, the Black Bean Chicken dish was very fiery spice wise and still very tasty! Wasn't sure what to expect as this was my 1st time trying it..but glad that I did. My taste buds thanked me! The Chicken n' broccoli was also good. Portions were great as well. I'm definitely a fan!

Tonight me & my mom and dad wanted to try "something different" so we went in to have dinner. (Only 2 tables were busy out of the whole restaurant) 1-none of the dishes came with rice (so we took one bowl of rice to share) ... ok fine whatever 2-when the bill came ($62 ... & something) I gave her $100 (that way when she brings us the change we can leave her the tip from it) Two seconds later she "runs" to our table talking about "you have to give me exact amount & tip right away" ..... we will not be going back there ever again.

Food was excellent, service was even better. I've been meaning to try this place for some time but always ended up opting for ramen, this time I made sure to give them a shot and wasn't disappointed. It's not much looking from the outside, however the quaint decor on the inside is pretty chic with hand drawn murals on the walls, nice ambient lighting and ample seating space. Upon walking in to the restaurant I was greeted and offered a seat where ever I wanted. The server brought over some menus and a glass of water and offered to take my drink order. I saw a separate drink menu on the table and opted for a Sapporo. It's mostly a wine and beer establishment and they don't have any draft beers. After looking at the menu I opted for my usual favorite which is a spicy dry hot pot. Basically, meats and vegetables cooked in chili oil with both chili peppers and Sichuan chili peppercorns. The resulting combination of both hot spice and numbing spice known as Sichuan cuisine. The meal was excellent, food was well prepared. For the hot pot, each item ranged from $5 - $6.50 and for one person they recommend between 4-6 items. I picked five, but try didn't have the tofu skins so naturally I wasn't charged for it. My one gripe is that prices were a bit on the high side for the portion and being charged for rice at a Chinese food place doesn't seem to sit well with me. Overall I spent a bit over $40 for the meal and a beer. I took about half home with me in their provided containers. In summary, I would likely come back to try more of the menu and provide further updates, of the items I tried so far, it was on par with other establishments that I've ordered from before and others were offering more items in the hot pot for cheaper and including the rice. Still, I'm happy I came in and decided it was worth it to try them out.

Definitely not your ordinary takeout spot! It's actually cute to sit down and eat here which is what my sister and I did. This place honestly deserves 5 stars for the amazing and flavorful food, but I did not want to still point out that when we first sat down there was a very strong cigarette smell and honestly we were about to get up and leave right there but something told me to stick it out because the food would be worth it. Fortunately the odor did go away and our food came out so fast. Hands down one of the best hot and sour soups I've ever had! We ordered the Dan Dan noodles, and they were soo good. The garlic sauce beef and orange chicken were also a strong hit. The orange chicken was probably also one of the best I've had. I loved how crispy it was and the sauce was delicious. I'm still thinking about it all and would go back tomorrow if I could. I took vegetable fried rice to go for my boyfriend so I got to try it and we were also able to warm it up the next day to have for lunch and it was delicious. Now as I said not your average takeout spot because it is a bit on the pricier side. For everything, it was a total of about $70. That being said, if you want to just enjoy a nice Chinese sit down with flavors that taste fresh and authentic, then it's totally worth it.

If you're wanting some Chinese & in Forest Hills, this should be the place you go to. I came here with my sister who had been here before & she really loves their green tea ice tea & I see why after trying it! We had the scallion pancakes which were delicious! It was flaky & just delicious! We also had the pork dumplings which were very good too. For our entree I had chicken with mixed vegetables & my sister had chicken & broccoli. What I really enjoyed about the chicken with mixed vegetables was the chicken wasn't stringy at all. Sometimes getting the chicken they use for the chicken & broccoli or mixed vegetables, the chicken is stringy, which is very odd & makes you question if it's even chicken. I'm so happy that wasn't the case here. This was my first time here, but certainly won't be my last.

We ordered shrimp fried rice and Kung Pao shrimp. It was so bland, so tasteless. How is it possible for shrimp friend rice to not have taste. Kung Pao shrimp had way to many dice celery. It had plenty of hot red peppers cooked yet had no real taste. Bland, bland. It is really a watered down version of some kind of Asian food. As an Asian, it was completely not acceptable. Ambiance was good. I liked the light fixtures and painted wall. Service was quick and and polite. But I found wait service to be rather cold and too quick. It was obvious to us that they want us to eat and leave ASAP. Hot green tea had no taste. I was basically just drinking a hot water. Will I go back again? Nope.

Finally, a Chinese food restaurant in Forest Hills that I like. First time we ordered delivery and had chicken with broccoli, garlic beef & kung pao chicken. So good. Second time we tried the garlic beef, spicy wontons & Mapo Tofu. All of it was excellent.

Tried this place over the weekend, food was tasty. Chicken cooked with cumin was very flavorful, & packed some heat. Hot & sour soup was on point. Steam pork dumpling were great; tasted similar to soup dumplings. Staff was friendly.

I should have taken a picture before we started, because all we have left is empty plates and bowls. Cozy environment, friendly, attentive staff and scrumptious food. Cucumber salad and pork soup dumplings makes an amazing starter here. The braised pork belly was large enough to feed myself and my husband. If you are catching a concert at Forest Hills Stadium, do yourself a favor and dine here before hand. You'll be happy you did!

Came here for dinner. I was hesitant to come because I thought everything was going to be spicy, but there is definitely a mix of different types of food and options here. Anything can be adjusted to whatever a range of spicy you would like. We tried dry pepper fish which was super spicy, but delicious. We also tried to the dan dan noodles. It was a little bit on the smaller side, but tasted pretty good still. We also got the scallion pancakes with beef which were also really good. They also have a few alcohol options like beer and wine for pretty cheap. A carafe of sake is $8 here. The also have a beer happy hour that's not easy to make (believe it ends at 6) with $3 beers, but the rest of the stuff is still reasonably priced without the happy hour. The service here was really good, and they were super friendly. It was a bit empty when we went to the vibes were chill but still nice. Overall, a pretty cool place. Would definitely come back to try the various other options they have!

A Foodbaby recommendation. I always wanted to try this place but was overwhelmed by their large extensive menu. This time around I got the slow simmered fish with chilis and soft tofu. Mouth-watering, delicious goodness in my mouth. The fish pieces were tender and perfectly cooked. The spice level is tolerable considering I cannot handle spice well. The tofu was soft and bouncy. I think this was a really good dish that showcases the Chinese flavors. For the price of the dish I wish it came with rice. Rice is $1 charged separately. Also got the beef with chilies. This one was okay. The beef wasn't as soft and tasty as it looked

This is/was a michelin guide restaurant. We went with 3 dishes recommended by the michelin guide inspector which included 1 appetizer and 2 entrees. All 3 dishes were flavorful and tasty. If you live close by or there on a weekday, they have a lunch menu that is relatively inexpensive. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Me and my sister decided to try a new place out, and this Chinese cuisine place was the first to pop up! When we first sat down, I won't lie I was definitely a little nervous. The place had minimal traffic when we first arrived, and the overall appearance of the place wasn't anything to brag about. But our waitress was nice so I had a little hope for this place. Me and my sister ordered the orange chicken, the garlic sauce style beef, and the house special Dan Dan noodles. The food was very delicious and super tasty! For the price of the food, I'd say it was semi worth it, but if you're looking to splurge this place is great!

Let me preface this by stating that as a true foodie I don't mind spending money on quality food. Spy C Cuisine missed its mark by a long shot. We were truly baffled by the incredibly small takeout portions that we received. Luckily I ordered food from another restaurant to add to our dinner. My hunny picked out the items he wanted us to try. I ordered Beef Garlic Sauce Style, General Tso's Chicken, Beef In Pancakes, and two orders of White Rice. I couldn't help but instantly become angry when I looked at the tiny laughable take out portions. The food we received was definitely not enough for two people or to have leftovers for the next day. The beef garlic sauce style was tasty but needed more beef. The general tso's chicken tasted like orange chicken (not a fan), and the beef in pancakes was too oily. We've definitely had better. We only received one order of white rice instead of two. Oh and I was charged for each rice. I used my 50% discount via UberEats which brought the total of our meal to $45.35. It was still too much money to spend on food that was mediocre. Be forewarned the portions are the size of a lunchable. We both agreed that we would never order from here again.

Ordered 4 wings from this place and this was it. Where's the other 2/3 of the wings? You guys selling the other part as drumsticks or something? Don't order wings from this place. Ain't cheap either. Trash

Over the years, Spy C has consistently delivered delicious authentic Szechuan and I continue to be grateful for its presence in this neighborhood. I usually do takeout but today had the pleasure of dining in for lunch with a few girlfriends who know good food and who specifically know good Szechuan. This was an advantage and opportunity for me to finally try some new dishes I'd never tried (it's always too easy to just click "reorder" on Seamless). The photo caption limited the number of words so here's what we ordered: A21. Braised Fish with Pickled Mustard Greens Sauteed Sliced Lamb Cumin Flavor F6. Yang Chow Fried Rice V1. Eggplant with Garlic Sauce Any 5 Spicy Dry Pot (potatoes, tofu, bok Choy, lotus roots, enoki mushrooms, beef tripe) All of it extremely delicious and I can't believe I never tried the dry hot pot until today! Definitely making its way into my regular rotation going forward :)

I cannot believe I haven't written a review for this place yet! My husband and I frequently order from here or go here for dine i. Or take out. This is hands down, the BEST Chinese food place in all of Forest Hills. We were thrilled to discover! My favorite dish is the eggplant with brown sauce. We also love their scallion pancakes. I love to order their egg drop soup and my husband is a big fan of their hot and sour soup. My husband has tried a few of their dishes and of course I take a bite. I am loyal to the eggplant in brown sauce dish as it is the best I have ever had and that is my favorite Chinese food dish. My husband has tried the Kung Pao chicken, the double cooked chicken, and the sesame shredded beef. Not one dish has disappointed. We are HUGE fans!

Good food. We had the pepper chicken, duck pancake, wonton soup and pan fried dumplings. The star of the show was the duck pancake, lots of flavor, juicy and great texture. Wonton soup lacked a little flavor and wontons were a little chewy (this is against my preference honesty it was still decent. The rest of the dishes you can't go wrong with.

Best Chinese food outside of China. Great lunch specials . It's really very high quality Chinese food... great soup dumplings ! Highly recommend this place if you want a high end Chinese meal

I'm so happy this place opened up few years ago. I went here first before the pandemic and ordered their crispy shredded beef! That was delicious and spicy! Always wanted to return and finally, here i am. This time i went on a Sunday afternoon at 2pm. Walked right in with my wofe and kids. Got seated roght away. Our order was taken right away by the nice staff. We got calamari coz my son loves it and he only eats calamari or white rice in a restaurant. Lol. It was good, but in my opinion it was slightly overcooked. We also ordered shrimp lo mein and that was a hit! My wife and i will order it again next time for sure! The crispy shredded sesame beef was also great! Its my fave dish there. This time we didnt get the spicy one coz my wife can't handle it. But still it was yummy! Overall the service was great. We had attentive servers. The place has a nice ambience. The one thing that kinda turned me off is when i took my son to the restroom at the back, one of the staff was sleeping/napping/resting in one of the tables out there visible to anyone walking by. Im not saying dont sleep or take a break, but just not out there where customers could see. People need rest i completely understand as well. Having said that, i will still return because the food is delicious and there more menu to try!

This place is awesome, came here for food and ordered: + Mortar and Pestle Smashed Eggplant and Peppers. It was a bit salty + Mixed bowl with different items: veggies, proteins, and other. It came with to bowls of rice additionally This place is awesome, quiet, and enjoyable. Definitely worth coming to this place : )

I hate to write a review like this but it's the responsibility of the restaurant to make sure something like this never happens. I ordered my usual chicken and broccoli for delivery. A few bites in, I noticed a couple dead worms (they looked like meal worms) floating in the sauce. I was absolutely disgusted by this. Not only has the food changed over the years, and not for the better, this was the final straw for me. I called the restaurant immediately and they asked for a picture, which I sent. They immediately offered me a refund and explained it was due to bad broccoli. This is simply unacceptable in the restaurant business. I'm writing this review in hopes the owner of the restaurant sees how much has changed in the quality of the food being served here since they first opened and that something has to change. I haven't been back and won't order from here again. Check your food.

The food was blah. The service was like they didn't want us there. No ambiance. The scallion pancake was soggy the shrimp. Fried rice was bland no flavor the Kung pow shrimp. Had a couple pieces of hot pepper in it, but was no flavor at all.

So delicious! Right amount of spice. I had the scallion style beef [onions were amazing] and my husband made his own dry pot. He loved the fish balls. Beef scallion pancake and cucumber salad are so good ! They're also very attentive and kind ! The place was clean and family friendly.

Came into a regular Chinese restaurant. I doubt it is authentic. However, the food and service are great. They didn't rush us when we got the menu or when we finished the food too. For our entree, we ordered the Orange Chicken and Singapore Rice Noodles. Both were pretty good. The sauce on the orange chicken was banging. It was very tangy so not sure what it is made of. The noodles wasn't what I had expected as it has curry sauce, it wasn't spicy at all, has egg and some seafood in it too. I probably wouldn't order it again, but I'll be back.

Idk why this place is sooo raves about when it's good but not incredible! I ordered dumplings to go and the dumpling dough was super thick, only pork option. It's very different from the soho dumplings, which are better than the regular steamed pork dumplings. The sauce container was inside the dumpling to-go box, but the dumplings were so hot the steam melted the plastic of the sauce container, which went everywhere. I recommend asking for the sauce outside of the dumpling container! It seems a bit toxic to have the plastic melt in the dumpling container. The staff is ok but not particularly friendly ... lots of orders were takeout while I was waiting for my food. Perhaps I'll need to try more of their signature dishes but was honestly underwhelmed the past 2 visits

Pretty good 3.5, will return if in the area. Simple decor, decent service as well as food. Beef with tripe with chili oil smells right and taste great. Wok seared cabbage with pork belly is well done, crispy cabbage is tasty, although this dish is usually paired with bacon. Jumbo shrimp is bit too sweet, could use less mayo The sour beef soup hits the spot after a long day hiking plus yoga ‍ They serve very limited selection of wine. Street parking.

This is my first Yelp review, ever. The garlic sauce here is perfection, so balanced and nuanced. The scallion pancake with beef was expertly executed: pancake crisp but not leaden and greasy, beef tender and flavorful. Pork Fried Dumplings at their classic best. Simple yet so lovingly executed! The service was warm, and the room charming. What a gem, please don't change!

I cant believe we waited so long to try this place. We were a bit baffled by the prices for the cuisine as you can probably get it cheaper elsewhere but the flavors are on point. All of the dishes were incredible. We ordered Chicken with ginger and scallion sauce, Singapore rice noodles, Fish with ginger and scallion sauce, Simmered fish with spicy tofu, Crispy beef, and Pork soup buns. You can't go wrong here. It is expensive but ordering here once in a while is a nice treat.

Delivery review One of the better asian restaurants in FH. Cucumber salad comes in an excellent soy/sesame oil spicy sauce. Cucumbers now come sliced thinly. Save the sauce and cut up some more cucumbers when you're done! RECOMMEND SCC probably has one of the best Crispy shredded beef dishes. RECOMMEND Chicken lo mien is okay. Noodles were a bit mushy for my liking. Flavors were okay. You can probably pass on this. Rice costs $2 extra Overall, pretty good food but kinda pricey. The three dishes above was about $60. If you live in FH and need a quick hit of authentic chinese food, check it out.

Just ordered in from spy c cuisine. $102 for absolute garbage. My family and I are very upset. First of all there was no rice. Rice did not come with any of the three main dishes we ordered where it always used to. The hot and sour soup was disgusting. It was worse than any we have ever had, watery, weak, all broth and no substance. The scallion pancake with beef was completely undercooked and tasteless. Also there was no hoisin sauce neither in the pancake nor on the side. The Hot sauce style chicken was all liquid. It used to be chock-full of tender chicken and it was delicious. While the taste was similar, the substance was completely inadequate. We asked for pork in scallion sauce and were told they no longer have pork, we ordered the beef. For $20 we received a small portion of eight pieces of beef with mostly onions and a few scallions. We routinely order crispy shredded beef from Bund so we decided to try it here. OMG. This beef was tiny shriveled hard fried pieces of an un-identifiable substance, tossed with dried hot pepper. No sauce. It was horrific and disgusting and also $20. The cold cucumber salad was delicious as always however for the price the portion has gotten much smaller. I will say the same for the pork soup dumplings, they were good. But arrived cold. Never again.

I think it would be easy to review a place like this using adjectives like "authentic", which are honestly sort of meaningless at the end of the day. Chinese food is a living cuisine, after all, subject to change. However, I think what we mean when we use terms like that is that this food is, we assume, more like what me might have if we went abroad to eat--as opposed to, say, General Tso's chicken and an egg roll from the place down the block. I have an idea, though. Let's just call food like this "fine dining". As the Bib Gourmand award they've received will attest, that's really what this is. And even the phrase "fine dining" has baggage; it means violin music, white tablecloths, and a maître d' chasing you into the dining room to lend you a tie. Spy C doesn't have any of that. But what they do have is really excellent food cooked and served with care and attention. I've lived and dined on Chinese food in so many places, and this is undoubtedly some of the best. It would be very difficult to overstate just how tasty this place is. It's also very consistent from visit to visit--despite what some other reviewers say. On a recent visit, we were presented with Pork Soup Dumplings on the house as a starter--totally unexpected and delicious. Nothing tops a really good soup dumpling, and these were piping hot and deeply flavorful. For entrees we ordered the Dry Fried Tofu and the Cumin Style Lamb. Both were simply presented, and so tasty and distinctive. The lamb, which is apparently a house specialty we had never tried, was sort of revelatory/mind blowing. Sichuan food is deceptively simple, really little more than a handful of ingredients deftly assembled. When done well the sum of those parts can be absolutely delightful, even addictive. It's this kind of place that I will visit over and over, just to witness the magic a good kitchen can pull off with just a few elements. The amount of protein included with a dish, for instance, is part of the experience. If you're here to order takeout in bulk, you're missing the whole thing. I would suggest trying not to view every meal out as a "deal" in terms of sheer size and density per dollar spent. That said, when I consider the amount of enjoyment I got from this meal versus the size of the check I wonder how it's possible. For what we spent on two entrees, drinks, and parking I've bought one single bowl of forgettable ramen in Manhattan. This place is definitely worth your time, your money--probably even your driving time from out of state. It's small and unassuming and turns out some of the best food you'll eat--which is the best kind of place, I think. And that's the whole point.

I ordered for delivery through their website. They delivered in less than hour and food was great. I got the spicy hot pot. I got the combination of (Napa, wood ear mushroom, enoki mushroom, potato and fatty beef) I got spicy and it was SPiCY lol
