The 14 Essential LGBTQ Bars in Chicago | Eater Chicago

"If barhoppers are looking to get drunk for less than $10 and to meet some lady-loving-ladies while they’re at it, Spyners Pub is the place to go. The gritty Lincoln Square dive features karaoke on weekends and damn cheap drink specials every night. With no distinguishing signage outside, this unmarked dive is much more discreet than its very gay clientele is." - Grace Perry

This is a pretty standard dive bar. Good for cheap drinks and people watching. The staff could be nicer though. I understand you are dealing with drunk people, but isn't that part of the deal when you work at a bar? This goes especially for the "gentleman" who runs the Karaoke on Saturday nights. I have been there twice for Karaoke and he is very particular and not accommodating. He will skip your song if he so chooses and will not let you put multiple songs. If you are going it's better to bring a small group.

Pronounced "spinners", this unassuming little bar is a diamond in the rough. Don't be fooled by the lack of a sign, or the never-painted front door; the clientele and staff are good as gold, and the beer is just as tasty here as anywhere else. The KJ on karaoke nights sings better than most of us, there's a new friend to be made no matter your age, hobbies, or level of sobriety, and there are dart boards in the back. They take cash and credit, and offer no food; they do encourage bringing your own take-out, though.

One of the best dives in Lincoln Square. Karaoke 3 nights/week. Bartenders are friendly and remember you. Everyone is welcome here. Gay/straight/younger/older/hipster to hippie. Frequent BBQs and special events: open mic, fundraisers. Prices are reasonable. Feel like skipping that club scene for a night and want something with a neighborhood feel? Stop on by.

Met friends there for a party, the owners had good food and open bar for a couple hours. I didnt know that part was just meeting friends it was great. The clientele and staff were all very nice. Met as lot of new people. A singing group ( they had to be proffessional ) came thru caroling then stuck around to party. Irma is a bartender there Awesome! Just a lot of fun.

Local neighborhood dive bar. Friendly patrons, cheap drink. Awesome karaoke! A good place to try out new songs without judgment. Everyone is there just to have a good time!

Great bartenders who introduce themselves and remember you after only a visit. Karaoke on the weekends which is not great, but provides a fun and silly outlet for some energy. Divey, lesbian frequented, and kind of fantastic.

This is your standard local dive bar. The staff was friendly, the locals were friendly, they had a full bar. They had a pool table. Pretty clean, pretty small. Wouldn't be the kind of place that I would spend a whole night at, but definitely a nice place to start the night.

My friends and I sang Christmas Carols here last night as we did last year as well and everyone was welcome with open arms except for one of our guests who we’d invited out to watch us perform. Besides those of us singing, this guest was the only African American person present in the establishment. The owner singled out this guest and questioned him asking why he was there, who in particular (by name) was he there for, proceeded to confirm with members of our singing group and STILL told our guest that the event was private and that he had to leave the establishment. This was very heartbreaking as we were only there to spread love and cheer and it ended up being a completely different experience. We will never be performing or giving our service to this establishment again. Unfortunately, many of the regulars seemed unbothered by the behavior of the owner. So unless you, as a person of color, are entering the bar with people she is familiar with, there is a very high chance she will turn you around.
