The Eastside Brunch Guide - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Square One has been around for years and is still the Eastside’s best option for a simple, quality morning meal. They’re open until 3pm and lines can get long here on the weekends, so try to beat the rush if you can. The original location on Fountain Ave. will always be our favorite, but the newer Square One on Hyperion in Silver Lake has the same great food and is order-at-the-counter if you don’t have all day. Eating the brioche French toast is a religious experience." - Brant Cox, Kat Hong, Brett Keating

Went for breakfast twice while staying nearby on holiday. Service is great, everyone was very kind and attentive. Coffee was great. We got the avocado toast, breakfast burrito and a gluten free banana muffin it was all nicely presented and tasty. Would recommend and definitely will return if back in the neighborhood.

Google
Great service and a very nice patio for a beautiful breakfast/lunch outdoors. Their service was also great. They don’t have a huge menu. I had their famous golden milk but it was kinda anti-climactic. With turmeric and cinnamon it was kinda powdery. I wish I had a stirring straw to mix up the foam on top. I also had the breakfast burrito with a side salad. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great. My friend had pancakes, which were more like silver dollar pancakes, but very fluffy and light. And the breakfast tacos. Overall this place is cute for a breakfast/lunch with friends.

Google
My wife and went here after reading a review on water for the best pancakes in La. funny thing was we didn’t even end up ordering any pancakes. We went during the week and found a nice spot outside in the patio, which cute and open. We were served very promptly by friendly servers. They have a very good selections of different types of breakfast plates. My wife got breakfast tacos and I ordered a breakfast burrito. Both very tasty. Our doctors office is right around the corner, we plan on returning in the future.

Great food! Large portions for breakfast! Bring an empty stomach. Great customer service. This was my 1st time in LA. We stayed at Hotel Hollywood and this place was within walking distance. Sooo happy we found it. Outside dining only. Pet friendly for people who love pets. Check out the pics and give a thumbs up! Its across the street from the scientology headquarters. If your into that, you can walk in.

Google
I was around the area with my sister looking for a place to have brunch for the day. I looked up options online and the food pictures of One Square Dining immediately caught my eye. Bam! Love at first sight! French toasts and vanilla latte did not disappoint. My sister got a burrito and an orange juice which I got to try as well and both were delish. Not to mention those breakfast potatoes. You've go to try this place for yourself! 💚

Google
What a delightful experience! We went on a Monday morning so parking wasn't an issue but I can definitely see how that might be a problem. We sat inside and had a very friendly and attentive server. Our party of 3 ordered the Salmom Eggs Benedict, Brioche French Toast w/seasonal fruit (warm apples), a bowl of poached eggs, warm kale & grains (can't recall the name) and we shared Avocado Toast with pickled fennel. We were expecting smallish portions but were pleasantly surprised. We each tried each others food and agreed we'd order this again. We were so full the avocado toast was hardly touched. But don't fret we took it back with us enjoyed it later. Will be glad to come back here to eat again.

Google
Nice little restaurant to have breakfast. They only have outdoor seating, but they have heaters for those cold days. The coffee is very good and the food is tasty. Chilaquiles were awesome.

Google
Nice space, reasonably priced, lovely service. The portions are generous without being overwhelming. Wish there were a few more vegan options (there is avocado on toast and the vegan burrito pictured, but that's about it). My friends had the regular burrito (vegetarian) and the baked eggs.

Yelp
Square One is one of the top brunch spots in the Los Feliz/East Hollywood area. Up until Saffy's opened across the street, you could normally see a group of people outside waiting to be seated. Square One offers classic brunch items like an assortment of Benedicts, bacon and egg dishes and French toast. They also have a lot of classic breakfast dishes that are elevated in some way or another. They have one of the best bowls of oatmeal I've ever had. The Steel cut Oatmeal with real Maple Syrup and Bourbon Pecans is worth getting up before it's taken of the menu at 11:30am. A lot of the dishes are heavily influenced by California cuisine. Lots of fresh fruit. Lots of avocados (they, of course, have avocado toast) and lots of healthy options; like substituting salad for potatoes. I love this. They've managed to take classic dishes and improve the nutrient profile without sacrificing flavor at all. In fact, they've actually made these dishes tastier in the process. How is that not a win all around? With the oatmeal and all the fruit-oriented items on the menu, this is a great place to eat if you have a mixture of omnivores, vegetarians and vegans. When I first started coming here there was distinct lack of space considering the popularity. Since the pandemic they've opened up much of the back, so if you're into dining al fresco, you're definitely in luck. And, while you can make a reservation, these days it is rarely necessary, especially during the week. A lovely place to start your day with friends.

Yelp
The location is beautiful, with simple outdoor feel to it. We ate outside on a beautiful day inside their private outdoor area and we were comfortable. The service was remarkable with attentive and a friendly waiter. The food is what sold mes. Their French toast was amazing, especially their boysenberry topping. I really enjoyed their salmon Benedict and country potatoes. This is definitely a place to come back for their French toast, especially since they have options to only order half or even quarter portions.

Yelp
Food - Had French toast with berries and almonds. Not dry at all. Perfect fluffiness and tasty especially the vanilla whip. Service - Seated very quick and waiters very attentive. Ambiance - Super causal and quaint. Outdoor and indoor. Won't be disappointed.

Yelp
BEST breakfast ever!! I loveeee this place and am so happy they are going to be open more :,). First of all the food is excellent. High quality ingredients, huge portions, and a wide variety on the menu. The French toast is to die for and every egg dish I've had is cooked perfectly. They have fresh juices and delicious coffee too! All the staff is so friendly and very good on checking in on you. :) The owner is a total sweetheart and you can tell how much love goes into the food and dining experience!

Yelp
We love this place and so happy it is now opened, but only for Saturday and Sundays. It's our go-to breakfast place and we always get the two egg breakfast and brioche French toast!

Yelp
TLDR = Cute spot among big buildings and busy streets. Eat outside or inside with breakfast vibes. Parking is street or neighborhood, and not easily available directly in front. Exterior = 3/5 Nuzzled between a few other businesses - it is easy to miss if you drive by. No parking lot associated with the restaurant so look around the neighborhoods for an opening. If you try to park in front, you may get beeped at by the multitude of cars that randomly pick up in volume. Interior = 5/5 There is a nice covered patio that has picnic bench style seating if you are a bigger party, or two seater tables with single chairs. If you find it a little too hot, you can ask to be seated inside. It is a little smaller, so recommend that if you are a smaller group (~2-4). Service = 5/5 Waiters and waitresses are all friendly, and service is quick. Order = 5/5 Granola with fruit I personally like this granola and fruit combo. They serve it with pomegranate honey that you can drizzle yourself, so you can taper the sweetness. I don't find it too sweet since the pomegranate balances out the honey - so I use the whole thing, no shame. The fruits on this are blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries; a solid combo. Overall the bowl has a good ratio of the yogurt to granola to fruit, and it has me content. It is a nice filling and refreshing food item. Breakfast Burrito So there are different kinds of breakfast burritos I like to enjoy, there is the heavy big and messy, and there is the clean, wrapped, and just right. This is just right for me when I am not wanting one that is hefty. They serve the burrito with melted cheese and a option to have side potatoes. I like the side potatoes they offer. They come with a nice outside crispness and a soft inside. Overall = 4/5 Great place to come by with a book and enjoy the outdoor patio seating with a nice breakfast or lunch item. Parking could be better but don't let it take from the food.

Yelp
SquareOne used to be the it place for brunch. I was surprised to see many available tables at 1PM on a Friday. I thought it would be swarming, but when I ordered the benedict I could see why the interest has faded. The Salmon Benedict (19) was such a disappointment. Especially for the inflated price. Namely, the crispy potato pancake was burnt. I could only taste char. It was inedible. The cured salmon was standard with a fair amount of pieces. Not really generous. The breakfast potatoes were also very basic. No special seasoning to give it a wow factor. The fresh ginger latte (7.75) with oat milk was comforting at least. Sad to say that Square One dining which was once known for their benedicts hasn't done much to maintain the quality of their food.

Yelp
I love this place! Food is delicious and service is always amazing! I was sad when they closed down for months but now they opened back up and I'm definitely looking forward to my Sunday brunch. I've taken a few of my friends here already and they also fell in love with it.

Yelp
Food and service is not at all how I remember it being prior to the pandemic. The manager on site was also not very accommodating. $50 to waste. Overpriced for non quality food. I'm definitely not coming back and I do not recommend this place.
google avatar

Yelp
A square one haiku: Vanilla latte Garlic breakfast potatoes Yum in my tum tum Seriously the crispy potatoes might be the best breakfast potatoes in LA. I will say that next time I'll ask for no Gruyère because they melt the cheese on the outside of the burrito and it just meant that my hands got greasy from touching the melted cheese. If you're looking for something sweet, it's not pictured, though I've ordered it before, the French toast is such a treat, you'll wish you'd ordered more.

Yelp
Hit this little breakfast spot after a long hike at griffith park, and it didn't disappoint. The indoors is a cute cafe with a large, outdoor patio attached. Service was wonderful and really accomodating - I needed to switch to egg whites and vegan cheese and they didn't even upcharge me. The food itself was spectacular. My omelet was well cooked and flavorful with a lovely little side salad. The huevos rancheros were yummy and a perfect portion. But the standout of the meal was the french toast (pictured). Honestly one of the best french toasts I've ever had and not even overwhelmingly sweet, just really flavorful and tasty. Along with the meal we ordered the vietnamese coffee. I'm not a coffee drinker but it made me wish I was. A definite must for an LA brunch! Big thank you to the staff and team we spoke to.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by here for a little cute brunch date. The huevos rancheros was really flavorful and yummy and the breakfast burrito with bacon and/or chorizo hit the spot as well. The waiter was really nice and took time out of his way to explain the foods and the history of this cute cafe. The owner (Danelle?) was nice and accommodating. Definitely enjoyed the ambiance and food.

Yelp
We got there mid afternoon for brunch and there was plenty of outdoor seating for us to enjoy. The servers were so friendly and I ended up ordering the Reuben and some coffee and both items were really good. Sometimes a Rueben can be a miss but the sauerkraut in the sandwich was just sour enough and plenty of deli meat thrown in. The sandwich came with a side of potatoes which I appreciated and was also seasoned super well. We were all pleasantly surprised at how good the food was and said we'd all be back. A smaller restaurant but definitely worth stopping in for.

Yelp
Amazing coffee & food! Great service! Good daily specials I had pretty much everything protein there! Never fails! This review is long overdue we have been enjoying this place for months! I'm so glad they don't include 4-5% extra "health fee" like some places we visited which absolute scam in my opinion cause there is no way to verified if it's a really a "health fee" or we paying a lease for someone Maserati...

Yelp
As a visitor to LA, I've been having serious decision paralysis when it comes to brunch. It's been tough finding wholesome food at reasonable prices and without crazy wait times. Just when I started to think that'd be too much to ask for, Square One Dining gave me hope! These folks take pride in using locally sourced ingredients that you can feel good about eating. My family and I enjoyed their... - Breakfast Sandwich: I was excited to see that it featured a beautiful slab of focaccia bread. Just a touch under seasoned for my taste, but the occasional splash of hot sauce made up for it. - Brioche French Toast: Soft, pillowy goodness. I'm glad we paid the extra few dollars to add toppings because the vanilla whipped cream took the dish over the top. (Seriously, we ended up asking for some extra on the side.) - Greek Yogurt Bowl: This is an everyday breakfast item for me, yet getting to eat it with homemade granola and pomegranate honey made it feel like such a treat. The portioning and sweetness of the toppings really allowed the richness of the yogurt to shine. Respect. The outdoor seating was beautiful and framed with plenty of fans to help you beat the heat. Service was prompt and friendly, too. Would recommend this spot to anyone in the area who's looking for a down-to-earth dining experience :)

Yelp
This is an outstanding craft breakfast joint! On a spacious patio, in the shadow of the Scientology tower, across the street, it's this quiet oasis with great food, excellent service, and, by LA standards, chill setting without a ton of pretension. Scratch made tortillas on the huevos rancheros were a standout of the dish. Beautiful grits, with the omelettes. Cappuccino is amazing. Service was terrific. Parking, for LA, not too bad.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this little spot because it was close to our hotel. We needed some breakfast before a day of exploring. We did not need reservations but it was 9:30 on a Friday morning, so I can't vouch for the weekends. It was outdoor seating and it was covered thank god bc it was a hot morning. They have the QR menus but also offered paper is needed. They provided full glass bottles of water to self serve which was awesome. My fiancé and I both ordered Lattes and was happy to see they had oat milk and almond milk options. I ordered the breakfast bowl and a side of bacon! It was delicious. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, the kale was sautéed just right and the mixture of the feta cheese, tomatoes, super greens and quinoa was *chef kiss* They do not have mimosas right now but they did say they were working on the liquor license for the future! Would definitely recommend this adorable little breakfast spot!

Yelp
The good , service and ambiance is very nice and clean Coffee here is excellent for all of us coffee lovers French toast was also good however it showed the egg batter on the French toast

Yelp
One of our faves! So glad to see it back in action. Great food, great atmosphere, and doesn't feel like a scene-y brunch place like many do in LA. My bf and I have come here a handful of times and were recently back post-lockdown for the first time. The menu had changed slightly, but the food was still delicious and the atmosphere is really pleasant. I had the Breakfast Bowl with a side of potatoes, and he had the Migas Tacos. Everything tasted great and the portion sizes were perfect. Definitely get the potatoes!

Yelp
I went last Sunday for breakfast and got food poisoning. Sausage and eggs. I was vomiting and dealing with diarrhea for hours.

Josh R.

Yelp
This place is great! High quality food and employees! Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area
google avatar

Alicia C.

Yelp
By far the best breakfast potatoes around! Crispy and garlicky goodness. Definitely a must try! Potatoes came with the chicken sausage omelet which was also very good. The huevos rancheros was alright in my opinion. It needed hot sauce or salsa but otherwise decent. Service is very quick and efficient. The wait time in the morning is about 20 minutes so it's not bad. We also tried one of their coffee drinks that's not on the regular menu which was espresso, tonic and I believe a hint of orange. This has a unique taste which I wasn't a fan of. Overall, a good place for brunch and will be back to try other dishes.

Yelp
A great place for breakfast and lunch. Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. My favorite is the huevos rancheros which is anything but typical and anything but average. I don't know where they get these cherry tomatoes but they're are so sweet and perfect. The crispy tortillas today disappoint either. They have a fantastic waffle that my son loves too. Cold brew coffee with a little cream was exactly what the doctor ordered this morning too. And the wait staff are courteous and attentive and helpful. A real winner of a spot. Parking can be a bit difficult so prepare for a little walk sometimes.

Yelp
Yoooo. This place is so dang good. Probably one of the best spots I have been to in LA. The cheesy potatoes are to die for!! The seasoning in their breakfast sandwich, potatoes, and coffee is immaculate. I literally can't stop thinking about the latte I had and the potatoes. I will definitely be back!! Prices are good for a brunch spot in LA.
google avatar

Kay Y.

Yelp
This place gets crowded so def come a bit later in the afternoon for weekend brunch. Food took a bit to come out and if it was super packed I'd understand that, but there were empty tables so I was a bit thrown off by that. Nonetheless it was a cute spot for weekend brunch.
google avatar

Kayla D.

Yelp
The most enchanting little spot. Trendy but not overly crowded my guest and I were seated right away. For starters we ordered two lattes one pumpkin, one chai. They were both unanimously wonderful! The server, Tom offered us masterful suggestions for our entrees. I got the chicken sandwich and my compadre decided on the breakfast bowl. Mouthwatering deliciousness till the last bite, both plates were heaven to our palates. **The service alone is 5 stars! Ask for Tom- he's truly one of a kind. **The atmosphere is again 5 stars , you don't feel like you are amongst the hustle and bustle of Hollywood. **Food & drinks hands down 5 stars! I will definitely be recommending Square One Dining to my friends and co-workers.

Yelp
This is a way overdue review. Square One is a great little brunch spot in East Hollywood. It's located in Fountain Ave., behind the Scientology building. Don't worry, no recruitment going on here. Only delicious breakfast. When I visited, my wife had the brioche french toast with bourbon pecan and vanilla whipped cream. It was super delicious. I had the breakfast bowl, which was also good. I also had the cappuccino. The foam was just right. Overall, the meal was greaery pleasant. We left satisfied. I would love to return to try the huevos rancheros. I understand they are a fan favorite.
google avatar

Kedar D.

Yelp
Square One is a hipster-ish modern cafe behind the Scientology building on Sunset. It has only a couple vegan items---a caesar salad and a burrito. I got the vegan burrito ($12.75) and hated it. It's a bland, starchy, boring wrap filled with unseasoned quinoa, brown rice and tempeh. The wrap also felt low quality. The side of roasted potatoes looked great but also curiously had no flavor. Random aside: Square One makes its own almond milk (cool!), but also sugars it up with dates, making it really sweet (sad!). The service was friendly and the vibe is nice here, but I wouldn't come back unless they overhauled their menu.

Vanessa M.

Yelp
I've been coming here for a few years and every time I leave so happy Wait time: I used to have to wait before they opened up their indoor seating (30-40 min) but now there's plenty of seating. My average wait time is about 1-10 min. Customer service: very friendly! Servers always ask how the food is, check in occasionally, and are overall pleasant. Parking: not the best because of the location I would rate that 1/10 but that isn't their fault because they just don't have space for a parking lot. Simply a location issue. Food: always fresh!!!! I've never had a bad food experience here. Ambiance: nice outdoor patio style seating, indoor is nice too a little small so I always opt for outdoor. You might also get lucky and see a cute puppy Pricing: definitely on the mid to high price range but the things here are fresh, I think you're paying for high quality produce so I'm my brain that makes sense. This place is a great spot for great food!

Maria H.

Yelp
I am extremely disappointed with the visit to Square One. I took my spouse and mom for breakfast and had terrible service. Our server (I forgot his name but he was white with short curly hair and wore a cap) did not check in on us at all after we received our food. All he did was take our drink and food order. We even saw him petting a customer's dog (which I was surprised considering that he handles food) instead of checking in with us as one of our food orders was completely wrong. Towards the end, we even had to flag another server down to pay our bill since ours did not come to our table to check in. As for the food, it took forever to come out (it wasn't too busy either) and the breakfast burrito lacked flavor and a good majority of the potatoes were burnt to a crisp. I would definitely not recommend this place.

Yelp
Excellent ingredients, friendly staff & a lovely outdoor seating environment.. will definitely come back!

Yelp
Another bookmark FINALLY knocked out! Came on Labor Day around 11:30 and the line was short and we only needed to wait for about 15 minutes. The place has always been popular but I feel the hype may have slowed down a bit so it may be more manageable to get a table. So the enjoy the LA weather, there is outdoor seating! After grabbing a seat outdoors and looking at the specials menu, I opted for the Breakfast Burrito and the Golden Milk. The Breakfast Burrito is vegetarian with eggs and cactus. The eggs were lighted cooked and the cactus added texture and a good substitute for meat. Of course, you can add meat if you'd like. A must is the add the salsa verde. I opted for the grits as a side but you can get breakfast potatoes, green salad, or fruit (for $4 extra). Thoroughly enjoyable for $12.50. The Golden Milk is almond milk mixed with ginger and tumeric. It was strange at first taste but it was also enjoyable. It tasted like a milky and sweet curry. Not really selling it here but trust, it is pretty good and not as sweet as other latte-like drinks. The loss of a star came from the service. The server was quite unorganized and wasn't particularly friendly. It was a bit of a disappointment. That said, I would definitely come back for the burrito, the drinks, the bowls, and the benedicts.
google avatar

Yelp
I can't believe we paid so much for such bad quality. $8 for a soup that tasted old and sour and overpowered by garlic. Potatoes drenched in oil and garlic. Slimy saturated eggs, probably the worst part, even the bacon was awful. Is anyone doing quality control? It's really bad. Only 3 times in my life have I deemed a breakfast "too gross to eat." The first was Bickman's next to a Red Roof Inn in Worcester MA in 2004, then a Dennys off the 5 near Fresno in 2012. The third time was my most recent visit to Square One.

Anupriya S.

Yelp
Very cute place with attentive and speedy service! Came here for brunch on a Sunday near noon and was seated in 20 minutes and was able to get a coffee while I waited in line! Ordered the country eggs Benedict and subbed the bacon for avocados- perfectly poached eggs, fresh avocado and great hollandaise. My only complaint was that the ciabatta bread was overly toasted to the point where I couldn't cut through it even with the serrated knife they provided. The breakfast potatoes were PERFECT must get!! The juices here are also excellent. Overall great prices, service, and quality of food.
google avatar

Helena P.

Yelp
Love this place. Nice patio dining. Great service, even during rush times. Clean, heathy, tasty menu. Always great options for vegetarians and bacon lovers alike. Shout out on the coffee cups, good size and ergonomic. Wish they sold those for home. Cobb salad - I always think the portion is too big. Until I devour it. Point reyes blue and bacon, enough said. Breakfast bowl - Kale, grains, feta and a runny egg. I do wish the quinoa and rice were warmer with the cool veg as contrast. I have tried ordering it that way but was not accommodated. Instead the whole bowl is lukewarm. Makes it meh when it could be spectac. Brioche french toast and pancakes are ample portion and a solid entry in the genre.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a Friday with a group of 6. Not too much seating inside but they have a few tables for larger parties and we were seated easily. I originally ordered the porcetta and asiago but they were out so I got the club sandwich and fries. Portion was pretty large and they definitely didn't skimp out on the fillings. The taste was a bit bland for me - I feel like the turkey could've had a lot more flavor. The garlic fries were really tasty. This is located right by the Scientology building. Not sure how parking is here as we walked from Kaiser.

Eric N.

Yelp
The food is really not that good. It's adequate. We live so close to this place that we go often out of laziness. Service is okay. Their patio is nice most days. It's unbearable on warm days when/where you're not covered, which is basically 1-2 spots every table. I don't bring parties that will fill up a table for this exact reason.

Jessica D.

Yelp
Don't get the grits here lol. Service was okay - I used to like this place but quality wasn't good this time.

Yelp
My favorite neighborhood breakfast spot. AMBIANCE: Small, but just right. Has indoor and outdoor patio seating. Every employee that I have encountered has been nice and helpful. THE FOOD: The best french toast I have had in LA. It is so delicious. The brioche bread is perfect and the toppings are fresh and tasty. They also have the best steel cut oatmeal with almond milk that I have had in LA. It has the right amount of thickness and the nuts on top are great. It runs out, so the earlier you go for breakfast the better chance you have of ordering some. The dish that I usually order is the huevos rancheros. The tortilla always comes out crispy, which is a huge plus. You're not getting anything soggy. The chorizo is a bit spicy, so I ordered the dish once without the chorizo, but I felt that the chorizo was what gave the dish flavor because the beans are a bit bland. I now order the chorizo on the side. Love this dish for breakfast. Their coffee is really good as well. THE TIPS: Parking is a hassle. Uber or walk if you can.

Kristina K.

Yelp
Very quaint and appetizing spot! Yes, be aware the prices may be on the upper end, and most hipster customers have the buffest arms, and you may bump into a celebrity like we did... If you're a foodie, you'll appreciate the experience, but if you just want basic breakfast, even Denny's will hit the spot. Service was very friendly and accommodating to our large party. Everyone enjoyed their meals and I'll leave you with some photos that are self explanatory. Enjoy!
google avatar

Carlos A.

Yelp
Square one was a solid 4. I had the focaccia breakfast sandwich which was very tasty. This place is great if you're at Kaiser up the street and want better food than what the hospital offers. It has cute decor and the staff are friendly. As a bonus you can see the scientology folks across the street. This place has street parking which can be tough due to the hospital up the street.

Yelp
The absolute best french toast I've ever had!!! The 2 egg breakfast was also quite good. Definitely. I never order french toast and usually just taste it out of somebody else's plate but when I tried it from my girlfriend's plate, I loved it so much i drove all the way from Long Beach a couple of weeks after to have French Toast. The staff is quite friendly and there is no complaints on anything bad from their part. Prices is typical from any other place. Spent about $30 for 2 people but the way prices are going up right now, that is normal. The location is just OK. Simply because you have to look for parking. It can be a little bit difficult to get parking right cross the street or something like that and everything there is metered so, yea parking will be a small fee. This is a dog-friendly spot so that is also a bonus point for them. Would I return? definitely!!! Already did once and am drooling over the French toast as I write this so, maybe I'll give a drive this weekend ha! Check them out for yourself and give us a follow/shoutout @thehungrynomadz on instagramtiktok.

Yelp
Was expecting more since it has so many good reviews but it was just ok. Maybe due to the tiny spaces available and food was just ok. Was in in the area and was looking for a great brunch spot and this came up on my yelp search. Did not expect this place to be right next to the Church of Scientology! You can't miss it! I think it's a family-owned spot since we were greet by the owner and her young son who was helping out so he get something he wants; that's what his mother told us. It's a pretty small spot indoors and more seating in the outside patio. We chose whatever came up first and waited about 10-15mins before being seated in the patio. Definitely like the outside patio than the inside. I ordered the brioche french toast with banana citrus caramel and the matcha almondmilk latte and my friend ordered the skirt steak with two eggs. I should've ordered something savory instead of sweet because this brioche was overly sweet that I was a bit over it after the first bite. Thought it would be better since so many people recommended on yelp. The brioche by itself was fine but I think adding in the banana citrus caramel just overpowered the sweetness level of it all. In the end, I removed the bananas and at the brioche. The matcha almondmilk latte was good. For me, it needed more sweetness to it so I just added more sugar myself. Nothing too special about this drink. I had some of my friend's skirt steak. It had a more of a Smokey flavor - like grilled Mexican meat that I would eat at my Mexican friend's bbq. Wasn't too impressed with this place but it's a good spot for locals in the area but probably wouldn't come back. Parking was a bit hard since we came on a Sunday and the restaurant is in a residential neighborhood.

Yelp
I was kinda hesitant to order the Huevos Rancheros but OMG it was the best choice. Everything was good. I added the chorizos because its an add on but i think it would be really good without it as well. Outside seating was nice and cool, every worker was paying attention of every table even if they were not serving us and everyone had a welcoming smile. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Square One Dining is cute little breakfast restaurant by Fountain ave and Berendo st on East Hollywood neighborhood. We came here to grab breakfast on a sunny weekend. They have a good amount of breakfast to choose from the menu. Interior atmosphere was warm and inviting. Hostess was nice and accommodating. Indoor seating were spacious, neat, well lit and organized. Its layout was well conceived given how small the inside dining area and its unique ceiling was covered with egg filler flats which was done artistically. Outdoor patio was organized, spacious and neat. We ordered the classic eggs benedict, potatoes and fresh squeezed oranges. The eggs benedict and potatoes were perfectly cooked and it's tasty and flavorful. OJ was fresh albeit in a small (6oz) size glass. Staff were attentive, professional and competent. Prices were relatively fair and competitive. Street parking only. Overall, we had a good breakfast and dining experience. And highly recommend this little place.

Yelp
I've read and heard so much about Square One Dining, but haven't had the time to check it out until now. I was pretty excited to try the Chorizo Baked Egg and Brioche French Toast. Food: 1) Chorizo Baked Egg came out on a hot skillet with egg and chorizo between layers of tortilla. I thought that it was decent, but not great. 2) Brioche French Toast - I found it to be overly sweet, but I prefer food to be on the less sweet side of the spectrum. The french toast was way too airy and soft. It didn't feel like I was eating anything. Service: When I came, there was a sign to seat ourselves. The service wasn't anything spectacular. They just took our order and brought out the food. They didn't really check on us to see how we're doing. Seemed like they were trying to rush us out when it was pretty slow and empty. Parking: There are some metered spots on Fountain, but there might be some free parking in the neighborhood streets. It'll be difficult though

Yelp
One of the best breakfast-Brunch place in LA. I have been coming here for 10 years. Food quality never changed. My all time favorite is French toast. The best I had in life. Also Beacon Grits is to die for! The only thing is parking might be hard on the weekends.
