It's a shame I have to give one star, I'd give negative stars if I could. Square has been one of the most frustrating and unprofessional companies I have ever dealt with as a business owner.
I run a legitimate event services business providing event planning, catering, and in person and remote coordination. I have an EIN, DBA, business licensing, and provided full verification including my ID and personal information. Despite this, Square has refused to clearly explain why my account is being shut down.
What’s worse is the complete lack of transparency. I have contacted support multiple times through both chat and phone, and no one has been able to give me a clear or consistent answer. One representative even confirmed that my account was essentially denied from day one, yet I’ve been dragged through an unnecessary and time consuming process with no resolution.
They are currently holding funds that belong to my business, with no clear timeline or justification for release. For a company that markets itself as small business friendly, this is unacceptable. Cash flow is critical, and withholding funds without proper communication can directly harm a business.
This experience has been stressful, confusing, and completely avoidable if there had been any level of professionalism or transparency.
If you are a small business owner, especially in the service or event space, I strongly recommend using an alternative payment processor. There are far more reliable and communicative platforms available.
Square has proven to be unreliable, unclear, and not supportive of the very businesses they claim to serve.
