The Incredible Pizza Shops of Hot Springs, Arkansas | Eater

"Housed in a former piano repair shop, this brewery and pizza spot serves fluffy, soft cheesy garlic knots topped with oven-baked cheese that gets crispy on the outside, giving them a Detroit-like feel. The Greek salad is well-balanced, the veggie sub on a soft house-made roll achieves a near-perfect filling-to-bread ratio, and the playful décor—out-of-commission musical instruments—matches the casual, satisfying lunch experience, which was rounded out by a bottle of local Mountain Valley Spring Water." - Courtney E. Smith

Google
This local pizza place takes pride in its quirky atmosphere. The staff members were polite and attentive. The bathroom I visited was clean. Unfortunately, the gluten-free pizza proved disappointing. The crust was thin and the pizza was slightly overcooked, resulting in burned edges. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for patrons who need to eat gluten-free.

Google
Amazing pizza place! Everything we ordered was spot on and our waitress Jada was super nice. Best pizza in town in my opinion!

Google
My favorite spot in the area. I love the aesthetics and the creative use of instruments as decoration and lights. Worth the walk and get a seat in the back. They have a patio too. The gluten free pizza crust was cooked to perfection and my waitress was perfect.

I this place was good they had great service and the atmosphere was wonderful. I loved the hot honey pepperoni pizza and garlic knots. I did not like the Caesar salad because the lettuce had a funky taste.

Wow, ordered a “Med” and had delivered to my table the best pizza I have had in years! The culinary balance on top was Michelin review worthy! Usually tourist spots are offering tourist trap prices for basic boring food. This is not that. A true foodies hideout hiding just off the tourist strip. I was equally impressed with their notably freshly brewed Belgian and Stout - both also Michelin quality drinking experiences. So I guess they deserve five stars as a pizza shop - and five stars for their brewery….doesnt fit in a google review. Oh, and our server apologized for it taking so long because the first run of the pizzas came out “too crispy” so even on a Tuesday night 10minutes to close they are trained and conscientious enough to serve perfect pizzas.

Our 1st time visiting & we thoroughly enjoyed it!! Tyler was our waiter & he was so good with our drinks & service that I asked him what his work schedule was so when we go back to Hot Springs, we will go on a day he is working🥰. The Sage Against The Machine & Purple Rain drinks were amazing & the Meathead pizza was delicious. We took the Margherita pizza home & our children devoured it!!

We stopped in for a quick dinner. We ordered the Greek salad and Hot Honey Pepperoni pizza. Both were good but could have used minor tweaks to be great. Would recommend!

My wife and I ate at SQZBX twice in the last week. We are new to the area and our first meal there we had one of the better pizza's we've had had in a long, long time. We ate there again today and ordered the same thing we did previously. A large 2 topping pizza and two soft drinks. Our bill was $43.00 not including tip. We knew the price going in and didn't mind paying for top quality pizza and service. The pizza we had today was less than mediocre however. The bottom crust was soggy and I had to eat every bite of my slice with a fork because the bottom crust was so limp. This was explained to our server and her reply was there must be a different cook in today. Her service otherwise was good. She kept our drinks filled and was pleasant. We thought we might have found our go to pizza joint. Doubt that we will be going back though for a long time if ever. Prices are rather expensive based on the lack of consistency and unwillingness to do anything if concerns are addressed.

Yelp
Located south (westish) of bathhouse row, this is worth the walk (or drive). The staff are friendly and answered all of our questions, provided suggestions, etc. The vibe is slightly quirky. We arrived just at lunch on a Saturday and were seated right away and it remained quietly busy throughout. They offer a full bar of cocktails (as well as mocktails and pottails), draft beers and ciders. We had the loaded garlic knots and the hot honey pepperoni pizza. Everything was phenomenal. I could eat these every day, so good.

Yelp
After walking around Central Ave, we were ready for dinner. I had originally wanted to visit this place on our way up to Missouri but they are closed on Wednesdays. Luckily we came back to Hot Springs on Tuesday. The restaurant is spacious. We were seated promptly and given some time to look over the menu. I started off with one of the IPAs on the menu, can't recall which one. My wife and I decided to share the Greek pizza. Pizza was brought to our table quickly. I really enjoyed the pizza, and we finished it entirely. It was that good! Next time I am in Hot Springs I would stop by.

Yelp
Glowing red sign. Embossed ceiling tiles. Music instruments lit up and displayed on the walls. It's a quirky vibe; one that speaks to me. We happily plopped ourselves down into a booth and got to ordering food. THE FOOD. - Cheesy Garlic Knots | Gooey cheese with garlic intertwined in warm, delightfully chewy bread. It comes with marinara sauce for dipping too. Great appetizer! - Wide Load Pizza | Wow... the toppings are plentiful with lots of flavors and textures all married up to form this beautiful pizza. I also appreciated how the prosciutto was not cooked with the rest of the pizza; it's the small details sometimes. THE DRUNK DRINKS. - Beer Flight of Six | The flight was pretty generous with the sizes! Favorite was Full Bloom IPA because hoppy beers are what I naturally gravitate towards. THE PARKING. We parked on the street in front of the restaurant and it was free. COMING BACK? Awesome pizza joint, I'd come back if I was in the area one day.

Yelp
Walked over to this place from bathhouse row. It took about 15ish mins. This place is bigger than it looks. The staff is very friendly. The salads were fresh, the sandwich was toasted, and the pizza was huge!

Yelp
My husband and I stopped in during our vacay in Hot Springs (we like breweries and we trade stickers from/for our local favorite). We only grabbed the little caprese plate. We smelled everyone's pizzas though and we got jealous we had dinner plans! Beer was good, my husband had the breakfast porter and another one... I had their hard cider which was ok, but I enjoyed the heck out of the Tide is High... Pot-tails! They were awesome! Great staff, owner was super nice, we will be back when we get back up that way!
google avatar

Sunny S.

Yelp
Small good selection of beer. Good food options. Choice of 12/20 oz not pint. Our bartender and informative. Cider was unusual, but made in house it was not as refined as others. Decor as quirky and fun as was the staff.

Yelp
I think the pizza choices were good with a variety of toppings. Me and my friends got the wide load and the Margherita pizza. The toppings were good and the pizza wasn't too expensive. The crust was soggy when we got it though and on one of the slices the cheese completely pulled off. Service was quick and fast though, we were seated immediately on a Friday night. The inside was a bit dark.

Yelp
Great service and the cheesy garlic knots are on point. The pizza was solid. Sauce was a little sweeter than I like but pizza was still good. Nice little place to visit when in Hot Springs
google avatar

Ellie N.

Yelp
Good beer, great cider. The pizza is well baked with tons of toppings. The antipasti plate is alright. The mozzarella and tomatoes were tasty but the olives were way toooo salty. I suggest ordering caprese plate only since their mozzarella is worth trying.

Yelp
My husband and I ate here while visiting Hot Springs. Probably the best pizza we have ever had. It was a little pricey, but definitely worth it. We had a Tiny Hot Honey Pizza, and a Medium Ham and Pineapple with Jalapeños. We also had a side of ranch and a small side of the Opera Sauce (hot sauce) and both were delicious. My husband had a beer flight, which to our surprise included all 6 beers. All were great! Our server, Jordan, was wonderful. There was music playing in the restaurant but it wasn't loud or overwhelming. Don't waste your time with the other pizza joints. This is the place to eat at when you're in Hot Springs.
google avatar

Christopher S.

Yelp
I've eaten here dozens of times over they years and never gotten a bad pizza. Surprisingly this was the first time I sat in restaurant and ate a pizza and drank the home brewed beer. Got to say this is the best microbrewery we have in Hot Springs. Service was solid and the music was fantastic.

Yelp
Outstanding pizza. My wife said I had to give it a 5! We had a biggie small which has two kinds of pepperoni. First thing we noticed was how little grease there was from all that pepperoni. Usually see that with the cupped style. Crust was really good. Sauce wasn't overpowering. The place was cute, though off on a side road, which made parking easy compared to downtown. Our server was friendly and attentive. I'd highly recommend this place for your pizza fix!
google avatar

Nicki M.

Yelp
Expect to wait during busy times but worth it. Casual dining with artsy decor and great service! Broad brew menu and even some wine to choose from. Non existent on the wine glasses but it is a brewery so I had lower expectations. The pizza was fantastic! Great balance of cheese and toppings with a nice crunch to the crust, not soggy. The garlic knots with cheese was a nice appetizer and the marina sauce to dip was delicious!

Yelp
After our plans to visit DeLuca's fell through, since they ran out of dough, we ended up at SQZBX Brewery, and I'm so glad we did! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the food was outstanding. We tried the "Wide Load" pizza, and it was absolutely fantastic. It easily fed our party of five, and we finished every bite! The crust was perfectly crispy, and the toppings were delicious and plentiful. We also started with an appetizer of cheesy garlic knots, which were a perfect way to kick off the meal--warm, cheesy, and full of flavor. The housemade cider and beer were fantastic and made great pairings with the pizza. And the desserts were delicious, though a bit on the pricey side, but still worth trying as a sweet finish to a great meal. We also ordered a side of ranch, and let me tell you, it would definitely please any ranch aficionado. It was creamy, flavorful, and the perfect dipping companion for the pizza. Our server, Emily, was fabulous. She was friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations. We truly appreciated her insight, and she didn't lead us astray with our choices. If you're in Hot Springs and looking for great pizza, craft beer, cider, desserts, and top-notch service, SQZBX Brewery is a must-visit. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town!

Yelp
We accidentally came across this place but so glad we did. The pizza, drinks, & tiramisu were great! The vibes, bartender, and waiter also couldn't have been better! Would definitely come back here.

Yelp
Pizza was ok but nothing special. Service couldn't be beat. Drinks were standard beer. Relaxing atmosphere. Ok for 4th with very little open.
google avatar

Judd H.

Yelp
Awesome ambiance and great pizza. Also good selection of location beers. The kids and parents love the place.

Yelp
Inconsistent quality.I've had their hot honey pepperoni 4 times. Twice it had a lot of meat on it. Twice it had much less. Our table ordered 2 of them tonight. It was obvious to all at the table they were different. When we pointed it out to the serve she said she'd tell the kitchen. Somehow I don't think that will happen or they won't listen. Someone needs to spend some time in the kitchen.

Kyle S.

Yelp
Good pizza, staff was kind, a bit pricy but all in it was good. Our order was to go and it was ready pretty quickly.

Yelp
Yelp came through once again. Who would have thought that a town like Hot Springs could ever have gluten free AND vegan pizza? Not this Yelper. But, it's true, they do. Vegan cheese even! We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server answered our questions and took our order of home made Hard Cider. The cider was delicious and grew on us more and more with each sip. Ordered the Vegan Dream pizza and veganized the Fungal Jungle. Both were outstanding. We were offered homemade vegan cheesecake until the server remembered "oh yeah, vegan" which resulted in us making a recommendation for them to get vegan ice cream, since there's literally countless brands out there these days! The decor kept with the name of squeezebox and added to the experience. Thankful for unique Americana finds like this.

Yelp
We loved our 8" pizzas. Tried the Med (artichoke, spinach, bell pepper, feta) and the a Hot Honey Pepperoni. Quick service and our waitress, Brayden, was super attentive and kind. Def recommend.

Bryan H.

Yelp
A cool little place with terrific beer choices and delicious pizza. Servers were very nice and attentive! The musical art on the walls is a nice added touch!

E T.

Yelp
Pizza was good. Great service. Crust is great, toppings were a little too much. Like my pizza with a nice toasted crust that does not get soggy in the middle of the pizza. Overall, worth the money.
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
Great pizza. Hot. Good sauce. Good amount of cheese. Not greasy, except for the actual pepperoni, but, hey, it's pepperoni. Crust thin and slightly charred in the middle/airy and with bubbles on the edges. Delicious.

Yelp
I tried to call ahead to order a pizza at SQZBX in Hot Springs and walk over there to eat it in house. (I pre-order pizzas all the time in LR.) No one answered the phone. So I ordered it online, and added a 25% tip. When I got there I sat at the bar and got a text saying my pizza was ready. I was told I had to go to the front to pick it up. When they gave it to me, I told them I had ordered it online so I could eat it there. They told me that could not happen because it was against their policy. WTF? Nowhere on their website or online ordering service does it mention this. I looked around at all the empty tables and bar seats asked them why that was a policy. They said because it cheats the servers out of getting a tip and lets me "jump the line" for those dining in. $27 for a medium gf pep and sausage. I had already tipped 25% and would've tipped the bartender for whatever drink I ordered so basically they made me take my pizza and leave. Really? Take your pizza and go? Maybe answer your phone! So I walked next-door and gave it to the staff at LifeNet, and dined elsewhere. Wow. A proper response would have been: "In the future, just so you know, our policy is... But for now let's get you set up to enjoy your meal."

Yelp
Our original plan was to pop in here for the dinner the night before but got lazy and didn't want to walk down. It was a mistake!! Thankfully a couple from our hotel HIGHLY recommended the pizza so we made every effort to pop by on our way out of town. The weather was perfect so we enjoyed the outdoor patio. The pizza was delicious!! We are big pizza lovers and this definitely rates high on our list. We will for sure return next time we visit. Looking forward to trying beer next time! To top it off, we had a wonderful waitress.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place. Great everything. Must go and try the pizza with better ingredients and fun atmosphere. Gotta try the beer too
google avatar

Patrick M.

Yelp
I love the food here. We bring visitors and family here because of the food and atmosphere. They are true ambassadors of Hot Springs. Put this on your spots to visit, but don't take my table! I'm almost a "regular" guest there!

Linda M.

Yelp
Great service and nice ambiance. Pizza is delicious to boot! Love the bar and outdoor area also!
google avatar

Tricia G.

Yelp
Fantastic food and atmosphere. The pizza crust is amazing and love that they have vegan options. Probably the best vegan pizza I've had. My friend loved her meat pizza too. The beer is kinda meh. But the food is worth the trip.

Margaret R.

Yelp
This was an unexpected treat. Excellent gluten friendly menu! The pizza is delicious and the espresso martini was exceptional. My husband also enjoyed the gluten reduced beer. Servers were super friendly and accommodating. Wish we were local. This would be a favorite spot for us. Decor is unique and fun too.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow the Pizza was great! If you want a nice comfortable place to hang out get a beer and enjoy, we recommend

Yelp
Food was delicious!! It looked small from outside but plenty of room inside. Service was extremely good!

Yelp
I've had very few pizzas that blew me away. Today I went to SQZBX in search of one thing: pizza. I searched around on Google for spots that were open but was shocked to find out not many were open on a Monday. Seeing how highly this place was rated, I decided to check it out. We got the regular garlic knots which were slightly bland. To be fair, we could've settled on the cheese-topped knots, but those can be hit or miss. We didn't wait too long for our pizza. Our waitress was very nice and made sure the food was good as well. The pizza was seasoned perfectly and the cheese tasted great. It reminds me a lot of Monical's pizza- but better. My only complaints are the pizza was quite soggy and the sauces had a fee which we were unaware of. Other than that, I had a great experience here. The restaurant was decorated nicely and it felt welcoming. Would recommend this place to friends.

Yelp
Don't dismiss what seems like a hole in the wall place. The food is top notch with fast friendly service, great bar offerings, and fun ambience. Our party of four ordered 4 eight inch pizzas so we could taste several kinds. We ordered the Med, Margarita, Biggie Smalls, and Hot Honey Pepperoni. All came out hot and fresh, loaded with toppings, and cooked to perfection. We preferred the Biggie Smalls, even the foodies in the group, followed closely by the Hot Honey. The others were very good, but these two won the day. Our server was fast and friendly, checked on us to keep drinks filled, but wasn't fussy. They were MOVING people through!! We waited 30 minutes for a table on a Saturday night at 6. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Alyssa H.

Yelp
This place was good! My husband and I came because we are huge pizza lovers. This place brews their own beer which we loved. It's a chill typical pizza joint type vibe. The pizza was good. I will say, I would've preferred more variety of veggie toppings and they won't do half and half pizzas on tiny pizzas which I was kind of like Merp. I got the veggie pizza and it was good. I think smaller pieces of bell pepper would've allowed for a more even cook and would've been easier to eat. My husband got the Greek which was top notch! Overall a good experience, we were happy!
google avatar

Ta'Brechi H.

Yelp
SQZBX stands for Squeezebox. It once was a musical instrument repair shop before it became a brewery and pizzeria. All their beer are brewed with malt so just a heads up. They do have other beer alternatives on the menu if you're not a fan of malt. If you're sitting in the back, then you'll be able to see a bit of the brewery. Customer Service was exceptional. The hostess was friendly and attentive and our server was amazing. Food We ordered a medium build your own pizza. Toppings include mini pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, and green peppers. I also ordered a house salad with their house made ranch.
google avatar

Brenda C.

Yelp
My husband had been bragging about this pizza establishment for a while, finally we decided to try it together. I got a plain cheese pizza and he got one with pepperoni and sausage. We were both pleased with the pizza, I wish that they would take it easy on the oregano, though, it's almost overpowering. The crust was thinner than I like, and the toppings were a bit skimpy so I did not feel like it was a filling dinner. My main hang up was the price. My husband got a large pizza, I got a medium, we shared a tiramisu and the bill was over $100. This is not something I will run back to eat again, but it was not bad.
google avatar

Kesha H.

Yelp
The pizza here is amazing!! It is a thinner crust packed with wonderful flavors. The bartender was so helpful. You will not be disappointed.
google avatar

Don P.

Yelp
Mmmmmmmm. Wanted to go into the brewery while on vacation in HS but honey wasn't feeling well. Had a pizza delivered and these are legit. Crispy crust an veggies, and great tomato sauce (I hate tomatoes straight up). Was even good the next morning before our flight back. Yes. do it!

Mike K.

Yelp
Pizza was excellent. Went with light ale beer that they make. Highly recommend. Service was fantastic as well. Really cool location and laid back atmosphere

Yelp
There are five-star reviews, and then there are "My GOD I would give you six stars if I could!" reviews Massive, massive shout-out here specifically to server Brayden W., from 12/17/2023, more on that in a moment. The wine was excellent, the beer was amazing as always, and the pizza was the kind of pizza where every bite is exactly what you needed, everything you didn't know you wanted, and gives you flashbacks of your entire life with pizza (it was great). For more details, see my previous review. What inspired THIS review is Brayden (that's what was on the receipt, I assume that was her name?) My wife and I came in here with our two kids. I love our kids, they're amazing, but this was a medal-winning performance of being cranky off-the-wall little gremlins. They were a *lot,* and everyone in the restaurant handled it so, so well. They got us a really nice table in an awesome spot - but also discreetly out of the way of other patrons (which we appreciated greatly), and were models of exceptional service. One moment stands out: my daughter yelling at the top of her lungs "DO YOU HAVE A COLORING BOOK?!" And Brayden calmly answering, so kindly, "Let me see what I can find!" They didn't have one, it's a brewery, why would they have one? It would have been perfectly reasonable to politely just say no, even come back and politely say no. But Brayden didn't. She came back with some crayons she'd found somewhere, a spare server's order pad, a to-go box (BRILLIANT) and gave them to my daughter. It was such a small thing, but my daughter *loved* it, and it turned the whole kid situation from an 11 to maybe an 8 (big improvement). But it didn't stop there. The drawing pad was used, and then our to-go pizza box became what my daughter thought of as a Cistene chapel ceiling, which Brayden did a heroic job of complimenting every time she came by the table. Another truly wonderful stop, I love this place. But way, way high marks for Brayden, who showed kindness, patience and creativity we couldn't possibly have expected, and will remember probably forever.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
The pizza, salad and beer were some of the best I've had. The service was just right, checking on us throughout our visit. It's is a really great place to go enjoy a nice pizza.
google avatar

Katie P.

Yelp
Great crust! Whole family loved it. They make their own beers insiders.. weight staff was really kind
google avatar

Joe Fedikian ..

Yelp
Nice place for drinks, pizza, and good times. Their pizza is really nicely cooked and thats coming from someone who makes their own pizzas and eats plenty from other joints. My only caveat is that this place can be a bit expensive to your traditional pizza spot. The staff is nice and respectful and the place is kept pretty clean from the times that i have gone. If you want a good pizza and youre in the area, check out this place!

Bob W.

Yelp
The service was amazing. Mickey and Amber are the best Love the pizza. The pepperoni chips are my favorite.
google avatar

Laurie H.

Yelp
We sat on the back patio and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Pizza was good and so were the beers! Great service too!

Yelp
SQZBX is a wonderful stand alone Pizza place known in Hot Springs as the most delicious pizza there! Salads an pizza is quite tasty!!! I would recommend to anyone taking someone they like or love on a date... quite intimate!!! Enjoy!

Yelp
We're traveling with a 3 & 6 year old. Kids napping in car so ordered pizza to go - heat up back at our rental. By the time we arrived to pickup, the kids had awakened & so available to go in for nice hot pizza. But no, this place would not allow us to eat our to go pizzas inside the restaurant. We planned to buy drinks & tip even more than the generous tip paid on our to go order. Plus - 3 pm Sunday - hardly anyone in the place. Unbelievable. Kids hungry when wake up from a nap - no time to get to our oven. So we found a park to eat cold pizza. Seriously bad experience.
