"Bangsar Village is home to numerous buzzy restaurants and shops. In this vibrant district, Sri Nirwana Maju attracts diners for its distinctive flavours – a selection of regional dishes for anyone seeking the authentic taste of India. Go for one of the set menus with rice and vegetable curry on banana leaves, which you can top up with your favourite sides (fish, chicken or lamb). The chicken biriyani boasts moist tender meat and balanced flavours." - Michelin Inspector

A Solo Traveller's Guide to Kuala Lumpur

"A traditional banana leaf restaurant experience awaits: white rice served on a banana leaf with a dazzling array of multi-hued, spice-rich curries, chutneys, and pickles at a South Indian establishment well-loved by tourists and locals alike; if there’s still space after, the chicken biryani boasts moist meat and balanced flavours. Must-order: Vegetable Meal Set (RM10 onwards, around US$2.50)." - Alvin Lim

We had a great experience here. We enjoyed the food and the banana leaf experience. The chicken biryani was very nice as well as the fried zucchini. The restaurant was busy and once we were served no one checked on us. I ordered a masala tea and it was okay, but I've had much better at other restaurants that don't have a Michelin recognition. All in all, definitely worth visiting, nice experience, but there are still ways the restaurant could improve the guest experience.

One thing worth mentioning (non-food related though), the lady boss still looks the same today as to when I last had meals there 10 years ago! So looks like eating homecooked and wholesome meals are the key to keep a youthful looks 💕 Oh and I missed seeing the friendly and handsome face of the service guy named Prabhu. I wonder where is he now 🤔 No doubt, a satisfying lunch with family and friends at this eatery 😋👍🏻

Food: 3 / 3 stars Service & Ambience: 1 / 1 star Value: 0 / 1 star We have eaten here several times, my wife is from Kuala Lumpur, and this was one of the restaurants she frequently visited during her school years. The banana leaf set is still good for me. Especially the fried bitter gourd (actually snake gourd), very delicious. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because there is no free refill. The idea behind banana leaf culture is one of generosity and hospitality, and traditionally offers unlimited refills. Business here is very good, prices are above average, but refills are charged at RM2, though I am not sure whether that is per vegetable or per refill of all the vegetables. Personally I am full enough after one round, and do not need to refill, so whether it is chargeable or not actually is of no concern to me. But as a matter of principle, if there is no free refill, then it should no longer be considered banana leaf. Perhaps it should be called Indian economy rice instead. 4 stars.

Not our first time at Sri Nirwana Maju Bangsar and still as good as ever. Banana leaf rice set (veg meal), Chicken 65, Fried Sotong, and Mutton Masala Varuval all rich, spicy, and comforting. We’ve tried other banana leaf restaurants, but we keep coming back to this one. It’s simply the best. From 7 person we spend RM 165.

Highly disappointing and not worth the Michelin mention. Service was below expectations – you’re required to order at the entrance before even being allowed in, which is unusual and unwelcoming. The food lacked authenticity. The so-called banana leaf meal didn't come close to traditional Indian flavors. Chicken varuval tasted more like mala chicken, which was confusing and off-putting. The portion of fried squid rings was ridiculously small for the price — totally not worth it. The overall experience didn’t live up to the hype at all. Prices are on the higher side, most likely because of the Bangsar location, but quality and taste don’t match the cost. I had high hopes, but this was a disappointing meal. Won’t be returning.

Michelin worthy? For sure 😁 Hands down the best authentic Indian restaurant at KL. Humble and friendly staff. Always a good choice for my informal Friday lunch! Tips: Their curry fish and fried pakora is the best.

The last time I came here was probably before they gotten the Michelin. Standard of dropped so much, disappointed by the fried calamari that is like elastic band, can’t taste the chicken and fish was ok. Only thing remained were the fried bitter gourd. Staff were rude and standing by the side of the counter not very attentive. I don’t know how they got Michelin by using paper cups and food so mediocre literally any BLR around town could easily have a Michelin.

Ordered Sotong Goreng , and this came. This is a pathetic portion of fried squid, literally 6 rings only. We were only given ONE piece of pappadam, apparently we have to pay extra for more. Dont think I've ever encountered this type of food portion size in a banana leaf rice restaurant, as they are known to be generous.
