Yelp
Korean BBQ is very one dimensional.
There isn't much to it. It's grilling meat. What makes each establishment stand out is the quality of the meat, the type of sides they provide, and of course the service.
I'd have to say that Ssamjang KBBQ does do the deal and stand out as another Korean BBQ joint that seems to be going outside of the Duluth area and into the Perimeter. I would venture to say that this establishment is a better offering for Atlantans in Cobb County and beyond.
The ambiance here is simple. Well lit. A plethora of tables that fits anywhere from two seaters all the way to large parties of eight. The place is clean, functions efficiently, and for it being a new place, they seem to have things worked out.
The service here is very basic. The server is professional, courteous, prompt, and efficient. Not much to really write home about. He did his job and he did it well. Keep this track record and this place will give Cobb County a pleasant KBBQ offering.
Now for the food.
The meat quality here is above average. They have a very good variety of meat although it is very basic and caters again to the western palette. Some proteins have cajun spices, garlic, soy, and spicy marinades which seem to be what attracts the crowd in terms of consensus among most KBBQ joints here but with the quality of the meat being that good, it's negligible to be upset about the over done marinade concept.
I do appreciate their banchan offerings and their sides also come with something different than I expected. The two most unexpected sides that they offer than most KBBQ places don't is the tonkatsu (deep fried pork cutlets) and the ddoek galbi (ground beef/pork patty served in a teriyaki style sauce). Both where flavorful and both were definitely winners to me.
All in all, this is just your run of the mill KBBQ place with better sides and a very prominent meat quality.
At $33, it's competitively priced compared to a lot of others out there.
My only disappointment is that for the All You Can Eat option (which is the only reason I go to those places) is that they only have it between a few select hours. Lunch is the primary window and then at night, from 10pm to close are the only times they offer the all you can eat option which to me does not make any sense from a business perspective. A 6 hour window of no AYCE KBBQ? What sense is that???!!! That's just me though.
All in all, it's not too shabby of a place and worth checking out.
