Where to Find Flaky, Crackly Croissants in Portland

"St. Beatrix, formerly Bushel & Peck Bakeshop, is a relative newcomer to the Portland pastry scene. But its butter croissants are on par with the classics on this list: light and flaky, with an attractive browned crust. Additionally, St. Beatrix likes to experiment with seasonal flavors, coming up with savory croissants filled with mortadella and pistachio cream cheese or sweet croissants with tamarind and mascarpone. Flavors here change frequently, but it’s extremely hard to go wrong." - Michelle Lopez

Portland Restaurant Workers Say Customer Attacks Are at an All-Time High - Eater Portland

"At St. Beatrix, the Northeast Portland bakery known for its ranch croissants and flower-adorned cakes, a can of bear mace sits behind the front counter. St. Beatrix owner Jess Smith bought it after a customer threatened to rape one of her employees, one of several incidents in the last eight months that have left her and her staff feeling vulnerable and frustrated. “It’s been super challenging,” she says. “Having to tell customers ‘no,’ they’re not used to that, and they react.”" - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

This place is a hit or miss, the first time I came all the pastries were baked so well and were so delicious! I got the morning bun, two breakfast sandwiches, a muffin, and some other things and they were all very good. My family and I kept thinking about that morning bun because it was so good! The second time I went it was OK, not as great as the first time. The third time I went, the pastries looked so beautiful- I was so excited by the fig croissant danish. However when I cut into it the dough was basically raw :( It was not really edible. It was really sad! I was able to get it refunded and the staff member was very understanding thankfully. I hope that in the future they will check/taste test their pastries before they sell them!

Cute spot with nice decor. We had some delicious breakfast sandwiches and salad. The caramel chai was tasty and the chocolate chip cookie was delicious.

St. Beatrix Bakery is just the cutest. The customer service is great and I mean the pastries, they are beautiful and delicious. Parking is a bit hard , small lot so be aware.

We were early for an apt across the street so my son and I popped in. What a great surprise! The pastries tasted as good as they looked and my matcha latte was 💯💯💯

Quaint little coffee and baked goods shop serving up very good coffees and a small assortment of really tasty baked goods. My blueberry lavender muffin was great. Nondescript location that you have to look for to find. Takeout only during COVID.

Stopped in for a post-lunch treat and grabbed a brownie and a cardamom snickerdoodle - absolutely gorgeous flavor and texture on both! Definitely want to stop in and try more treats another time!

I've always enjoyed the artisinal pastries from St. Beatrix. We found them thanks to Eater while looking for the perfect croissant. One day I saw that they make unbelievably beautiful custom cakes, and I ordered one for my graduation celebration. The cake was definitely the most beautiful cake I've ever seen. There was a small issue that came up in the process, but the owner was quick to remedy it. I was blown away by their customer service and generosity. I definitely recommend them!

Some of the best laminated dough work in town. Not too explosively flaky, not sad like a Grand Central dough. The somewhat random, and rotating, cast of croissant fillings will keep you coming back for more. The scones are the big miss for me. Taste exactly like the biscuits in flavor and texture. It makes a great biscuit, but you’ll be missing the softness of a better scone. Also, the basque cheesecakes? Not to be missed.
